In "Sweeping" Interview, Putin Calls US Syria Strategy "Illegal", Details Russia's Support For Assad

Tyler Durden's picture

As we never tire of pointing out, perhaps the most amusing thing about Russia’s stepped up role in Syria is the extent to which it represents the calling of Washington’s ISIS bluff.

For more than a year now, the US and its regional allies have purportedly been engaged in a sweeping effort to defeat Bakr al-Baghdadi’s army and rid the world of what’s been billed as the greatest threat to humanity since the Third Reich. Curiously, ISIS is still operating and still making periodic territorial gains despite the fact that when you strip away all of the nuance what you have is a ragtag militia battling the most advanced air force on the planet. There are of course no shortage of conspiracy theories as to what exactly is going on and even if one wishes to avoid going so far as to say that the US created ISIS, there’s no question that Washington has played a role in training and arming anti-regime forces in Syria and some of those anti-regime forces have turned out to be Sunni extremists.

Until now, the US seemed content (and again, this isn’t so much a conspiracy theory as it is a simple assessment of readily observable facts) to bide its time and wait out Assad’s army. Try as he might, there simply was no way Assad was going to be able to hold out forever as fighting a multifront war is ultimately impossible even if, as was the case with Germany during World War II, the effort is backed by a vast military industrial complex. But Russia’s arrival at Latakia changed the calculus and now, the US must decide whether to join forces with Washington’s two fiercest foreign policy critics in order to preserve the “anything is better than ISIS” narrative, or else drop that narrative and admit publicly that the fall of Assad and the resultant BOP shift takes precedence over wiping out terrorism.

And while the Obama administration scrambles to figure out how best to negotiate the situation, Vladimir Putin has kept the pressure on by making near daily pronouncements about what exactly it is Russia is doing in Syria, thus debunking the myth perpetuated by the American media that Washington just can’t seem to discern Moscow’s intentions.

In the latest example of this dynamic, Putin gave an interview to American media ahead of his speech at the UN next week. Here’s Reuters with more:

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday branded U.S. support for rebel forces in Syria as illegal and ineffective, saying U.S.-trained rebels were leaving to join Islamic State with weapons supplied by Washington.

In an interview with U.S. networks recorded ahead of a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama, Putin said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad deserved international support as he was fighting terrorist organizations.

"In my opinion, provision of military support to illegal structures runs counter to the principles of modern international law and the United Nations Charter," he said in an excerpt of an interview with U.S. television networks CBS and PBS released by the Kremlin.

Putin says Damascus should be included in international efforts to fight (IS), a demand the United States rejects, and he criticized U.S. plans to train up to 5,400 Syrian rebels to fight Islamic State.

"It turns out that only 60 of these fighters have been properly trained, and as few as four or five people actually carry weapons," he said. "The rest of them have deserted with the American weapons to join ISIS."

Yes, they sure have, and as we noted on Saturday, the latest effort to train and arm “moderate” rebels took a further turn for the absurd on Friday when the four or five remaining US-trained fighters were stopped by al-Qaeda, who proceeded to steal their pickup trucks, confiscate their bullets, and leave them standing in the middle of the desert.

Here's more via CBS:

Charlie Rose spent time with Putin while on assignment for "60 Minutes," and asked him about Russia's intentions in Syria.

Charlie Rose: So you would like to join the United States in the fight against ISIS? That's part of why you're there. Others think that while that may be part of your goal, you're trying to save the Assad administration because they've been losing ground and the war has not been going well for them. And you're there to rescue them.

Vladimir Putin (through translator): Well, you're right. And it's my deep belief that any actions to the contrary in order to destroy the legitimate government will create a situation which you can witness now in the other countries of the region or in other regions, for instance in Libya, where all the state institutions are disintegrated. We see a similar situation in Iraq.

And there is no other solution to the Syrian crisis than strengthening the effective government structures and rendering them help in fighting terrorism. But at the same time, urging them to engage in positive dialogue with the rational opposition and conduct reform.

Rose: As you know, some of the coalition partners want to see President Assad go first before they will support.

Putin: I'd like to recommend to them the following: They should send this message to the Syrian people. It's only the Syrian people who are entitled to decide who should govern their country and how.

Now obviously, he's correct on all accounts here and it certainly isn't because Vladimir Putin somehow understands more about how the democratic process works than Obama. In other words, it's not that Washington doesn't understand that its strategy to destabilize the Assad regime and subvert the will of the Syrian people (who, by the way, would probably prefer Assad to the outright anarchy that exists in Syria today) is utterly deplorable, it's just that the Pentagon and the CIA are all-in on this one and at this point there's simply no way to spin the narrative in a way that gives them a way out. Putin is simply taking advantage of that and is now using every opportunity to highlight the hipocrisy and illegality of what the West and its regional allies have done.

Finally, because Syria can be a rather depressing subject when one takes stock of the human suffering the conflict has caused, we close with a little Putin levity via RT and 60 Minutes:

Charlie Rose sat down with Putin to discuss, among other issues, how the world views the Russian leader. CBS has published a preview of the interview.

Rose pointed out that some people have been referring to Putin as a ‘tsar.’ Putin responded that people call him various names, but added he believes the description “does not fit me.”

“It’s not important how I’m called, whether these are well-wishers, friends or political opponents. It’s important what you think about you, what you must do for the interest of the country which has entrusted you with the position as the head of the Russian state.”

When asked what he admires about America, Putin said that what he likes most is “the creativity.”

“Creativity when it comes to your tackling problems. Their openness – openness and open-mindedness – because it allows them to unleash the inner potential of their people. And thanks to that, America has attained such amazing results in developing their country."

There's absolutely no question US involvement in Syria is not "legal" - and its actions in Iraq and Libya merely had 'color of law.'

Charlie Rose is a borderline moron who lacks the capacity to doubt the narrative Vichy Washington puts forth, and which the MSM regurgitates.

Look, how can you prove to someone that the US is supporting "al qaeda" et al. in Syria and generally *not* doing so for the purposes of spreading love and freedom if they simply **presuppose** that the US is a moral force in the world always and everywhere, and ipso facto opponents of the foreign policy Vichy Washington generates are tyrants, terrorists and madmen? You see the same thing with Israel's apologists - they assume criticism is "hate" because they literally are unable to process events in such a way that Israel's actions could be 'wrong'.

You ask people - why is the US involved in Ukraine, or in Syria to begin with, and they give you these canned answers -"stopping Russia" and "fighting terror and stopping Assad from killing his own people."

This "world police" mentality is totem pole stupidity - isn't the military supposed to defend this country? And when people say "we need to..." - what fucking "we" do they mean?

Putin inherited a gangster state run largely by Jewish oligarchs, and a Jewish criminal mafia. I don't say this to shock or offend you - its simply the case. These oligarchs had powerful friends in London and DC and Paris.

Russia was financially raped under Yeltsin by the same crowd.

He played off some oligarchs, the relatively more pro-Russian ones, from the more globalist/Zionist ones. I have no illusions about this man... but the West has fucked with Russia for decades. Putin was the leader Russia needed. Dangerous, murderous, and he probably amassed quite a bit of wealth.

But there is no doubt he is a Russian patriot - and no doubt he has improved the lives of average Russians while having to fend off repeated and aggressive US/Zionist efforts to destabilize Russia.

He is an impressive, very highly intelligent man dealing with a puppet in Obama, and a bona fide Jewish Supremacist sociopath in Netanyahoo.

ISIS has depended on not only weapons and cash from the US and allies - but *logistics*.

While the US goal was in large part to eject Russia's boats from Tartus, that is not going to happen now. Still the other main goal was to prevent a pipeline from Iran running through. Russia can be surely accept that.

What "Obama" is most afraid of is all the evidence of US government involvement in supporting mercenary terrorists - in supporting the people who murdered thousands of people, especially Christians and other religious and ethnic minorities.

Imagine if even 1/4 of American Evangelicals put it together that the US and Israel, along with the Saudis and Turks - supported groups that murdered Christians {some are Eastern Catholic, some Eastern Orthodox, but most are members of the Oriental Orthodox Churches which the average Xian Zio simply doesn't know anything about}.

Look the MSM is simply lying to the American people about all this stuff - no news there and won't change. That's not the issue.

But if it becomes very clear just how involved the US government has been in supporting Islamic terrorism some people within the government - *within* the agencies, etc. are going to become very, very angry.

But the fact 'they' are talking up "Qatari pipelines" ought to at least suggest to you that something else is may be in fact in play - especially insofar as the Israeli and Israeli-Occupied US governments are concerned.

And that thing, I submit, is Leviathan.

The 'illegal' aspect is very important. There is established procedure for 'war of aggression'; the ultimate crime against humanity. By stating this publicly at the UN, the AngloZionists have been given notice that they shouldn't assume they have immunity for their actions against Syria (for example). Even the boot-licker UK Foreign Secretary has seen the light of the train of exposure coming down the tunnel. He now says "we are perfectly prepared to consider a role for him [Assad] during the transition" [What a fucking arrogant git. What a damining statement for the concept of democracy]

Some time ago the UK military was involved in flying men/weapons to/from Amman in Jordan where ISIS-to-be 'moderate' rebels were being trained. The UK has also supposedly sent its special forces into Syria, disguised as ISIS, in order to kill ISIS? Yeah, sure. False flag actions to be blamed on ISIS seems more likely. It all sounds pretty dodgy to me. The politicians and military responsible better have good escape routes.

The natural alliance between Iran, Iraq, Assad and Russia will be a coordinated response to assure Asssad's survival and return to stability for the country - very powerful compared to the US for the last twenty years.

If Qatar and SA drop the need for the pipeline in the interest of stability for themselves then

Americans should also note that when Putin was asked, what he thinks about Obama, he said: "I have no right to evaluate Obama. This is a job of the American people." Perhaps Westerners should do the same. These constant ponderings about if Putin is a tsar, democrat, dictator or whatever are stupid and unfortunatelly typically Western views. Putin is an elected leader with the support of 85% of the population. As Russians would tell you: "it is not your job to evaluate our leader and tell us, if he should lead us or not, it is only our job, thank you."

The only thing that people in the West should be interested in is that Putin is a national leader, whose views are in harmony with the will of the majority of Russia. As such, his views and actions do represent "the will of the Russian people". Whatever you may think of Putin, if the USA "goes into a war with Putin", they will actually go into a war with "the Russian people". That is a very different thing from trying to liberate a country from a dictator (i.e. a leader, who is not wanted), where actually you could at least count on the support of the local oppressed population. As one Russian woman put it to me recently: "Putin is not a dictator. I can tell. I lived in the communist era and I was AFRAID of our govermment then. Now, we are not afraid of Putin, we are not afraid of our government at all. Not even those, who dislike Putin, are afraid. We believe that we finally have a leader, who listens to us, who takes into consideration, what we need and what we wish for. Instead, ironically, we are afraid of the USA government, who is behaving increasingly more as our Soviet government used to, and seems bent on deciding "what is good for us Russians, without even asking us".

Well, actually, many people in the West were surprised, when Putin gave Russians the right to carry a gun anywhere. Russians were not allowed to do that under the Soviet government. And note that there is no such thing mentioned in the Russian Constitution, so he decided this of his own will.

Putin, speaking at the United People's Front explained this decision with the words: "You can get a lot more done with politeness and a weapon than with politeness alone."

Yes Putin is being semi saracastic or taking the piss out as they say.   Creativity in creating ISIS for mass murder and looting then pretending to fight ISIS.

Creativity in creating fake ISIS beheading movies using Rita Katz green screen video probably shot over at Dream Works, Disney or Paramount's back lot.

Not shocked by beheading? Let's pretend to burn them alive or drown them.  It is a shame that Gene Rosen and Robbie Parker could not make a guest appearance.

Notice how nervous Charlie Rose is doing damage control to keep the American sheep thinking that America is actually fighting ISIS.

Putin and Russia won so this interview is damage control.  Well Putin is really okay because he is HELPING us fight ISIS!   What can the liars say now?

McCain and the rest who backed and created ISIS should be put on trial.  Tens of thousand of innocent people have been murdered in Syria, Libya, Iraq and other places.  People are being cluster bombed in Yemen by the Suaids as I type.

France launches air strikes against Islamic State in Syria

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/09/27/us-mideast-crisis-france-syria...

France said on Sunday it had launched its first air strikes against Islamic State in Syria in an act of "self-defense" to stop to the militant group from carrying out attacks inside France.

Prime Minister Manuel Valls said on BFM-TV that the strikes targeted Islamic State training centers where militants were being prepared for carrying out attacks in France.

"We are hitting Daesh because this terrorist organization prepares its attacks againstFrance from Syria. We are acting in self-defense," Valls said, using an Arabic name for Islamic State.

The announcement came a few hours before President Francois Hollande was to join world leaders for the start of the United Nations general assembly in New York.

"Our country thus confirms its resolute commitment to fight against the terrorist threat represented by Daesh (Islamic State). We will strike each time that our national security is at stake," the French Presidency said in a statement.

Islamist militants carried out a number of attacks in France this year, including one on the Paris office of satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in which 12 people died...

I have wondered from time to time if Obama has no idea what is really happening on the ground.

Could his own advisors be lying to him and in the command of some other group? It could be because they are keeping him in the dark, or it simply is too complicated to keep track of and understand. What I am asking is, "Is it possible Obama does NOT have the big picture?"

But I am always suspicious when one is prevented from openly discussing something, or when a wiki article so nakedly and unabashedly makes a claim tha a theory is not just 'wrong' or 'overstated' but necessarily "anti-Semitic" - in other words, excluding the possibility that someone simply may doubt both the prevailing narrative and the underground conspiracy theories, and seeks to find out for himself what the truth may have been.

I am rather disappointed that the full on mudslinging propaganda war hasn't really heated up yet, it seems Putin is holding back.  All nations have dirty secrets that they don't want exposed but most certainly the US gov is exceptional in this catagory if nothing else.  Putin could expose any number of evil operations this country has engaged in against it's own people and others, which both Russia and the world desperately need.

Maybe he is waiting for the point of no return in relations with Washington but as they try and starve his people with sanctions and NATO points missles in his face one would hope he soon sees that there is a target over his country and himself and it's not going to disappear regardless of any diplomatic action.  He is out gunned and out moneyed but he has one huge advantage being that he is right.

Seven years later and we still haven't seen Obama's records. Press completely uninterested.

However, from the evidence we can strongly establish that Obama is an Islamic traitor to the US. He appointed a moslem as CIA director and has helped Islamic jihad anywhere and everywhere across the globe with billions of dollars and the strength of the US military. When he spoke at Georgetown, he had the crosses covered up. He consistently emphasizes Islamic holidays and downplays Christian ones even though he is allegedly a Christian. He is on the record as saying "my Muslim faith", something no non-moslem would ever say accidentally. The extensive involvement of the Muslim Brotherhood in his administration is well-documented, and he has endeavored at great lengths to import and support as many foreign moslems as possible.

When is the last time America voted in a Leader that cared more for the country than themselves? A difficult question at best.

The very first President signed into law a Central Bank, sent the Army to put down a tax rebellion. All have been advocates of a strong central government, the reason they trashed the Articles in favor of the Constitution. Possibly Jackson who eliminated the Central Bank seeing it more of an evil than the government which ushered in the best prosperity the country ever had. Hard to say.

When has any recent USG con-gress critter or El Presedenti uttered anything like this Putin comment?

Rose pointed out that some people have been referring to Putin as a ‘tsar.’ Putin responded that people call him various names, but added he believes the description “does not fit me.” “It’s not important how I’m called, whether these are well-wishers, friends or political opponents. It’s important what you think about you, what you must do for the interest of the country which has entrusted you with the position as the head of the Russian State"

The USG is just a revolving door of fraud and bribery and it's "trickling down" to state and local jurisdictions.

How the World Really Works

-          The luckiest, fittest, smartest, with the capability for ruthlessness survive – always have – always will

-          Resources are finite and therefore ownership is a zero sum game

-          The strong always take from the weak – if they do not then that is a sign of weakness and a competitor will take from the weak and will usurp the formerly strong dropping them into weakling status

-          Humans tend to group by clan or on a broader basis by nationality (strength in numbers bonded by culture) and they compete with others for resources

-          Competition has always existed (I want it all!) but it becomes fiercer when resources are not sufficient to support competing clans or nations

-          Tribal societies understand these dynamics because they cannot go to the grocery store for their food – so they are intimately aware of the daily battle to feed themselves and the competition for scare land and resources

-          Modern affluent societies do not recognize this dynamic because for them resources are not scarce – they have more than enough.

-          One of the main reasons that resources are not scarce in affluent societies is because they won the battle of the fittest (I would argue that luck is the precursor to all other advantages – affluent societies did not get that way because they started out smarter --- rather they were lucky – and they parlayed that luck into advances in technology… including better war machines)

-          As we have observed throughout history the strong always trample the weak.  Always.  History has always been a battle to take more in the zero sum game.   The goal is to take all if possible (if you end up in the gutter eating grass the response has been – better you than me – because I know you’d do the same to me)

-          And history demonstrates that the weak – given the opportunity – would turn the tables on the strong in a heartbeat.   If they could they would beat the strong into submission and leave them bleeding in the streets and starving.    As we see empire after empire after empire gets overthrown and a new power takes over.   Was the US happy to share with Russia and vice versa?  What about France and England?  Nope.   They wanted it all.

-          Many of us (including me) in the cushy western world appear not to understand what a villager in Somalia does – that our cushy lives are only possible because our leaders have recognized that the world is not a fair place --- Koombaya Syndrome has no place in this world --- Koombaya will get you a bullet in the back --- or a one way trip to the slum.

-          Religious movements have attempted to change the course of human nature --- telling us to share and get along --- they have failed 100% - as expected.   By rights we should be living in communes --- Jesus was a communist was he not?    We all know that this would never work.  Because we want more.   We want it all.

-          But in spite of our hypocrisy, we still have this mythical belief that mankind is capable of good – that we make mistakes along the way (a few genocides here, a few there... in order to steal the resources of an entire content so we can live the lives we live) ---  ultimately we believe we are flawed but decent.  We are not.  Absolutely not.

-          But our leaders --- who see through this matrix of bullshit --- realize that our cushy lives are based on us getting as much of the zero sum game as possible.   That if they gave in to this wishy washy Koombaya BS we would all be living like Somalians.

-          Of course they cannot tell us what I am explaining here --- that we must act ruthlessly because if we don’t someone else will --- and that will be the end of our cushy lives.   Because we are ‘moral’ --- we believe we are decent – that if we could all get along and share and sing Koombaya the world would be wonderful.  We do not accept their evil premises.

-          So they must lie to us.  They must use propaganda to get us onside when they commit their acts of ruthlessness.

-          They cannot say: we are going to invade Iraq to ensure their oil is available so as to keep BAU operating (BAU which is our platform for global domination).    The masses would rise against that making things difficult for the PTB who are only trying their best to ensure the hypocrites have their cushy lives and 3 buck gas (and of course so that the PTB continue to be able to afford their caviar and champagne) ….  Because they know if the hypocrites had to pay more or took at lifestyle hit – they’d be seriously pissed off (and nobody wants to be a Somalian)

-          Which raises the question --- are we fools for attacking the PTB when they attempt to throw out Putin and put  in a stooge who will be willing to screw the Russian people so that we can continue to live large?      When we know full well that Putin would do the same to us --- and if not him someone more ruthless would come along and we’d be Somalians.

-          Should we be protesting and making it more difficult for our leaders to make sure we get to continue to lead our cushy lives?  Or should we be following the example of the Spartans  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZeYVIWz99I

-          In a nutshell are our interests as part of the western culture not completely in line with those of our leaders – i.e. if they fail we fail – if they succeed we succeed.

-          Lee Kuan Yew is famous for saying ‘yes I will eat very well but if I do so will you’   Why bite the hand that whips the weak to make sure you eat well....  If you bite it too hard it cannot whip the weak --- making you the weak --- meaning you get to feel the whip….

-          Nation… clan …  individual….   The zero sum game plays out amongst nations first … but as resources become more scarce the battle comes closer to home with clans battling for what remains…. Eventually it is brother against brother ….

-          As the PTB run out of outsiders to whip and rob….  They turn on their own….  As we are seeing they have no problem with destroying the middle class because it means more for them… and when the weak rise against them they have no problem at all deploying the violent tactics that they have used against the weak across the world who have attempted to resist them

-          Eventually of course they will turn against each other….  Henry Kissinger and Maddy Albright bashing each other over the head with hammers fighting over a can of spam – how precious!

So go ahead and cheer for Russia --- but be careful what you wish for - the yoke will end up around YOUR neck

You are truly a fine representative of the Darwinist Western class.  You believe you have the mind and spirit of men all figured out - a dark tale of self-interest and greed.  You assume other leaders of other countries (like Russia) are the same - that is is them or us.  But you don't recognise the pathologic degeneracy such an opinion reveals.  Everyone is an enemy.  Everyone is out to get you.  Trust no one.  Deceive everyone.  A true Jewish outlook.

But good news.  There really are decent people in this world.  And as you are fond of saying - there always have been.  It's just that the cruel and the strong make all the noise and take all the credit.  I don't believe that there is another country in the world like America - none so greedy, none so ruthless.  None so aggressive - Russia and China are working towards a multi-polar world in which national sovereignty is respected and nations don't fight wars but make wars unnecessary through strong economic ties.  This is a foreign concept to people like you and America who believe only in the law of the jungle and can not conceive of a different world view, only capable of projecting onto the rest of the world what you yourselves are inwardly - sick and sad souls lost in the quest for power and money  Only a boafide sociopath would have an outlook like yours.  Sadly, you will never know the satisfaction of doing a selfless deed.

Putin, the Russians, the NovoRussians, your post and the Syrian people fighting for their survival renew a little bit of faith for the hope that decent people are out there.

I agree with most of your assesment of human nature and the way the world really works. It's useful to have someone point this out, as a kind of medicinal dose against the endless horseshit we are taught about "the way the world works."

Humans are predators on their own species. The will organize to rob or exploit other humans, where it's feasible to do this on a larger scale. But if their not in a position to act on the larger stage, they will find ways to batten on their own community--which is something you can observe every day in the arena of local politics. And they will also seek any and all means to exploit or outright steal from friends family members, or to reduce their effectiveness as competitors for resources through character assasination and gossip. You can see this every day, if you're paying attention, but it becomes especially obvious if you're ever involed in a probate case.

However, people will band together in families and "clans" and through community organiztions for mutual benefit and protection and, where they're not morons, they will restrain the tendency to step on each other's heads as much as possible within the group's alliances. (This is mainly what religion is for--group identity and the restraint indidivual ruthlessness for the benefit of the group.)

Human groups will also establish systems for restraining group ruthlessness against other groups, in cases in which they percieve this to be in their interests, as for example to enjoy the benefits of trade. (This is mainly what business ethics are for.)

It's always about self-interest.

Where you've gone wrong with your assesment is by implying that the US government is something that it's not--i.e., an organization acting on your behalf to further your interests. It's simply another very powerful exploiting/oppressing/murdering/thieving group. You are not in that club. Your group affiliations (whatever they are) are not in that club. That club exists to exists to exploit/oppress/murder/theive AGAINST you. Not for you. Duh.

That is utter bullshit.

There are many nations that can be self sufficient and completely isolationist if they chose to do so.

United States is one of them. Mexico and most of South America also belong to this club.

Any nation that is large enough to have major resource, water and good farm land can be self sufficient.

So fuck off with you psychopath bullshit. People kill each other by the millions because of assholes like you, you fucking mentally deficient shit.

Luck my ass.

Alexander Graham Bell and his trusty side kick starved for years experimenting to make a telephone.

Thomas Alva Edison experimented over a thousand times until he found a filamant that would work in a light bulb.

ETC, ETC... Oh, a more comtemporary example, Dr. Ben Carson, the lucky neurosurgeon.

Luck my ass.

Seems to me the harder one works the "luckier" one earns.

How Psychopaths operate and how to deal with them:

As humans, we need to confront this threat and DEAL with it.

We need to remember that cooperating with evil, on ANY level, is a MISTAKE and it will ultimately come back to bite you.
