Western Propaganda Machine Kicks Into Overdrive As UK Brands Assad "A Butcher", France Bombs Syria In "Self Defense"

Tyler Durden's picture

On Sunday, France proudly announced that it had launched its first strikes against ISIS targets in Syria. Here’s The New York Times:

In France’s first airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Syria, warplanes destroyed a training camp, President François Hollande announced on Sunday.

At a news conference in New York, where he had arrived for the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Hollande said that the warplanes had attacked the training camp in eastern Syria after it had been identified by French air surveillance with help from the coalition of Western and Middle Eastern states conducting the air campaign against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, ISIL or Daesh.

“Our forces reached their objectives: the camp was completely destroyed,” Mr. Hollande said. “Six jets were used, including five Rafales, and they were able to ensure that our operation did not have

He added that France might launch other strikes in the coming weeks if necessary, with the goal of “identifying targets that are training camps or places where we know that the Daesh terrorist group can threaten the security of our country.”

Prime Minister Manuel Valls also confirmed to reporters in southeastern France on Sunday that the airstrikes had taken place.

“We are striking Daesh in Syria because this terrorist organization prepares and organizes attacks in France from Syria, from these sanctuaries,” Mr. Valls said. “We are therefore acting in self-defense, which Article 51 of the United Nations Charter permits us to do.”

Got that? Paris needs to bomb Syria in "self defense" because clearly, a ragtag group of militants who only exist because they're still a useful tool in Washington's geopolitical calculus, pose a very real threat to the territorial integrity of France, one of the most influential nations on the face of the earth.

Obviously, that is absurd to the point that it's almost not worth mentioning were it not for the fact that France's involvement comes as Britain is also set to step up its own "anti-ISIS" air raids in Syria.

In short, both France and Britain are ramping up their involvement in Syria's civil war just as Russia, Iran, and China are set to bolster the Assad regime. As we've detailed exhaustively, the West is now finding it almost impossible to maintain the narrative. Russia and Iran both have an interest in ensuring that Assad does not fall which means that by default, they also have an interest in eradicating the Sunni extremists operating in Syria. That's extremely inconvenient for Washington and its allies given that the US has gone out of its way to portray ISIS as the greatest threat to human decency since the Third Reich. Now, Moscow, Tehran, and Damascus have effectively said the following: "Yes, you're right, so why won't you join us in defeating them?"

So far, the West's response has been to suggest that somehow, Russia's efforts to defeat anti-regime forces in Syria will serve to embolden terrorists. For instance, here's what British think tank Royal United Services Institute has to say:

The deployment of Russian troops in Syria could end up helping Islamic State as they have been sent to areas where they are most likely to fight other groups opposed to Isis, according to a new report.

Essentially, the contention there is that Russia should not attempt to eradicate one group of extremists because in doing so, they might inadvertenlty help other extremists. If you applied that logic to sports, it would be the equivalent of saying no one should ever try to win, because by defeating one opposing team, you might indirectly improve the position of another opposing team.

As ridiculous as that is, the one thing you can say about the West and foreign policy is that things can always get more ridiculous and with that in mind, we bring you the following from U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron (via Bloomberg):

Bashar al-Assad should face a criminal trial, U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron said, while keeping open the possibility the Syrian president could temporarily remain in power to oversee a transition to a more inclusive government.

Cameron made the comments on Sunday as he flew to New York for the United Nations General Assembly, where he’ll meet with other leaders to discuss possible solutions to the 4 1/2-year conflict that has seen Islamic State take control of parts of the Middle Eastern country and led to an exodus of millions of refugees.

"People who break international law should be subject to international law,” the prime minister told reporters traveling with him. “He’s butchered his own people, he’s helped create this conflict and this migration crisis, he’s one of the great recruiting sergeants for ISIL."

As we've said on a number of occasions, no one is arguing that Bashar al-Assad is the most benevolent leader in the history of statecraft, but when Western propaganda reaches the point where Syria's President is accused of being a "butcher" and, going still further, of facilitating the recruitment of the very people who are trying to oust him, the world should start asking questions.

At this point, if you're buying the Western narrative with regard to Syria, we suggest you refer to the clip shown below...

Saw the Putin interview on 60 Minutes. He made Charlie Rose look like an assclown, the worst kind of propaganda stooge. It is surreal to see the leader of Russia speaking plain truth and common sense, while western leaders lie artlessly and relentlessly, and our ridiculous joke of a media suck their cocks.

I now understand how your average eastern bloc citizen must have felt watching Ronald Reagan speak in the early 1980s, and comparing that to Brezhnev or Andropov.

How low our nation has sunk in only thirty years.

I agree. Cameron should go on trial for breaking international law. Ejaculating into a dead pigs mouth, bestiality and necrophilia, are the least of his crimes.  BTW, anyone know what occult ritual he was practising...?

Leadership is often Top Down.

- Lots of Correct orientation to be adhered to, the Clinton's probably earned little respect from the military since they showed that they could not listen, could not learn the important lessons of National Security, Keeping Secrets, working with secrets, respecting the people that spent their lives learning a hard, highly developed system of systems

- hence you see Hillary unable to recite how to protect emails, follow clear directives that everyone must follow, and how to "join" the system and people that work within the many industries and agencies

1. Do staffs feel the leadership is part of the team or against them, implementing a personal agenda, out for political gain/power, is there polarization within the staff, are there factions in the staff, what is the morale of the staff, how does staff and agencies relationships perform and what are the trust levels??

2 Are there separate rules for congress, Presidents admin, military, state department, ordinary employees,... are there financial conflicts of interest at any level, do senior members trade stocks or financial assets in questionable ways? Has everyone agreed that Gift Giving is a bad idea at all levels? Are the rules enforced for everyone?

3. How do you work on Team Building, what is the plan?

4. How do you train, help build skills, educate employees, staff, and those at all levels? Do the executives follow the standard operating procedures, doctrine, security rules, ethical rules, and take the same classes, read the doctrine, and follow common rules... do top levels understand what users, managers do and go through to get the job done. Do users and managers get information and data about what executives are working on and a chance to provide feed-back?

5. Leaders can provide clear feed-back, direction, orientation, doctrine, SOPS...

@MilwaukeeMark

"If they had bombed an occupied camp and soneone fired back the French would have surrendered."

Stupid as usual.

These old English racist jokes have been revivified since 2003 by the hate of american warmongers against France, and this hate still persists even in ZH.

All this ugly disdain and nasty jokes come from the firm refusal of the French to join America in Irak, in 2003. Since France refused to go to Iraq, American warmongers and neo-cons made French army look like cowards – as a punishment.

But History has proved the French were right, and that the WMD were only a dirty trick to serve as a pretext.

Nevertheless, the hate of American warmongers against France remains still there, well alive, even in ZH.

This stale hate still shows through "innocent good jokes" about the “surrender monkeys” and their white flags

As for the rest, the French can be proud of their Military History:

According to the British historian Niall Ferguson, since 387 BC, France has fought 168 major wars against such badasses as the Roman Empire, the British Army and the Turkish forces. Their track record isn't too shabby, either: They've won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10 times.

This makes France the most successful military power in European history - in terms of number of fought and won …

The French have succeeded to conquer and guard the largest country in Europe.

So I'm in a decent mood because I've ben listening to my favorite Guns N Roses songs from my youth, So this response may not be as salty as normal.

To your spielberg comment I would only mention that there exists plenty of organic, available, period footage which calls the official narrative into question. I'm not calling it into question though, as much as the period, historical footage is.

To the comments of the branding of Dr. Assad as a butcher by the UK, and the apparent sorties by the french, I say phooee. The current geopolitical situation is rife with embarrassment and imagined hope when it comes to Syria. Back in 2011, you had US ambassador Robert Ford directing death squads in Syria ( many from Libya ) while UK foreign minister William Hague and French foreign minister Laurent Fabius called for direct action by the West.

From that point the war kicked off after Dr. Assad finally decided to engage this foreign menace. With the help of hezbollah and limited help from Iran, he has, rather they have, that being the legitimate alawite government led by Dr. Bashar. Al Assad, with many Sunni ministers helping out, and the largely Sunni Syrian Arab Army / Syrian Arab Airforce - been forced to engage the international terrorist force foisted upon them by the West and their Gulf State patrons.

Dr. Assad was elected overwhelmingly as the head of state of syria. As a head of state of alawite stock, who is secular to the point that his wife is Sunni ( as are his children ) and his cabinet are made up of a diverse group or religious and ethnic minorities, it should be clear that he represents ALL syrians. But to the West it isn't.

The West has had all their cards put into "moderate" anti Assad efforts, Radical anti Assad efforts, as well as ISIS. It was only last year that ISIS split from the fold of the western opposition. Since then ISIS got their calphate, Jabhat al nusra ( al-quaeda syria) became the big player, and Western moderate forces were trained only to be forcibly enveloped into AL-Quaeda syria (JNA).

So pre-russian engagement, we saw a panoply of foreign jihadis invading Syria with help from the gulf coast, Israel, Turkey, NATO, and the Gulf Coast.

Now that Russia is there, as well as the fact that the political climate for rebel support is caustic, we have a sea change.

The facts lay bare that most syrian rebels are not syrian. So with Russian satellite intelligence, the SAA ( et al ) are better able to engage all enemies. Be it in Ghouta, Lata,ia, the Southern front, or wherever, they have the capbability to cut the west's efforts off.

France just flew jets far into Syria and bombed near Iran.  One report indicated the area bombed was closer to the Iran border.  This makes you think it may have been a training facility or occupied facility for Iran's proxy force to secure a buffer zone along Iran's border.

They say it may have been unoccupied but maybe they know it was occupied but they do not want to publicly announce they just hit a force aligned with Iran or a facility that contained some forces of Iran.

It is WAY too late for Russia to take a high headed humanitarian position.  They sat and watched Syria be destroyed.

If lowly France can fly fighters across Syria and bomb what has been stopping Russia?

Putin is trying to secure a couple ports in western Syria for after Assad is allowed to fall.  Putin will not even fly his jets over the mountain range into the areas where fighting occurs.  He uses the mountains as a buffer and make a defensive position at the ports.

Putin has not fired a shot.  He sits, has photo opps taken, talks a lot, sits with some vodka and pretends to be playing chess all while hoping he can keep a little of Syria for Russia.

At the same time France has laws against free speech (they call it libel) where the accused has to provide the evidence (the burden of proof) that he didn't in fact libel anyone...lol.

Not unlike the latest United Nations bullshit proposal against companies providing "free speech" forums.

France Bombs Syria In "Self Defense"

France also bombed Libya into ruin in self-defense? The Nobel Prize Winner is droning women and children and wedding parties in self-defense?

UK Brands Assad "A Butcher"

UK's historty of brutality is legion. Here is British torture in Kenya during the Mau Mau revolt in the 1950s:

Interrogation under torture was widespread. Many of the men were anally raped, using knives, broken bottles, rifle barrels, snakes and scorpions. A favourite technique was to hold a man upside down, his head in a bucket of water, while sand was rammed into his rectum with a stick. Women were gang-raped by the guards. People were mauled by dogs and electrocuted. The British devised a special tool which they used for first crushing and then ripping off testicles. They used pliers to mutilate women's breasts. They cut off inmates' ears and fingers and gouged out their eyes. They dragged people behind Land Rovers until their bodies disintegrated. Men were rolled up in barbed wire and kicked around the compound.

That's not the result of assortative mating - it's the result of in-breeding (Betty is married to her 2nd cousin, and so was her Nana, Vicki). Assortative mating is quite different from dynastic arranged marriages.

Even with that said, I would prefer to look like Chuckie "Big Ears" Battenburg Saxe-Coburg Gotha than, say, Newt Gingrich or Denny "Let Me Smell Your Jockstrap, Young Wrassler" Hastert.

Bertrand Russell was actually right: the mathematics of assortative mating are inexorable: the dumber and poor outbreed the smart and rich (because the women in the dumb/poor classes have a lower time value). In the absence of some countervailing force, this will, over time, mean that the characteristics one sees in the bottom decile, ramify to the bottom quintile (and eventually above).

The thing that used to form a natural 'brake' on this, was the horrifyingly high level of infant mortality in the poor/dumb classes (as late as the 1950s, infant mortality in the poorer parts of London approached 35%).

Human ingenuity thankfully enabled far larger numbers of infants to survive their first year (and beyond, into adulthood), but the poor/dumb did not slow their rate of reproduction to compensate for increased rates of survival (and plus, they were being subsidised for reproducing: like the Catholic hierarchy, the political class understands the value of increasing the proportion of ignorant, dependent people in the population).

And here we are - 3 generations into a gigantic experiment whereby the Deltas were subsidised to reproduce. And sure as eggs, the fucktardery that used to be seen in the bottom decile, has ramified to the point where the bottom half of the human herd is not worth bothering about - they really are almost a different species to anyone with an IQ more than 1sd above the median.

Another thing that used to help keep the Deltas from overwhelming the system, was large-scale land war: whether through conscription or voluntary service, the economic detritus could be sent to foreign fields to kill each other in the name of some stupid story - whether it be 'competing magic vaginas' (different kingdoms at war) or 'which set of parasitic cunts gets to live at the expense of the polity' (democracy vs fascism), young men from the poor/dumb classes signed up and actively participated in projects that were completely contrary to their class interests. (War is defined as posh cunts sending thick cunts to kill poor cunts... in the American version "Rich cunts sending dumb cunts to kill brown cunts").

Humanity does kinda need a masive cull: since the rich/smart have better health care options, even a large-scale non-selective epidemic would do.

Otherwise, we face a future where the only thing on tap, is Brawndo. but at least it's got electrolytes!

Cameron is America's bitch whore, he was called up and told he must make an anti Assad speech so further the US narrative, but since the US story is so dicreditied that nobody believes a word of it, the USA sends out their UK whore to say the most stupid shit imaginable.

Look, Putin has called America's ISIS bluff, while claiming to be fighting ISIS, the USA has allowed ISIS to grow, expand, recruit and gain new arms. US airstrikes have been made only to provide CNN with a story line, and then they do not strike again until ISIS has had weeks to attack and gain ground. Putin has forced the USA to either stand with ISIS or against ISIS. Because Putin's help for Syria is about to put some serious hurt onto the CIA's main asset, ISIS! Lets hope the USA gets it's CIA and Special Forces advisors out of the ISIS untits before Russia's air campiagn kicks off.

Cameron is an ass licking cunt, always begging Obama to let Cameron spew the lies, so the Black Messia can hide behind the Brit.

We all wait for Putin to stand in front of the UN, and I expect he will call out the USA, either you join us to end ISIS, or if you do not, then explain yourself as to why you will not fight ISIS.

The likes of Cameron by helping to fracture the structure of the area like Libya,Syria,Iraq and Afghanistan subject the population to anarchy and chaos.

Cameron needs trying for crimes against humanity just like Assad. So on that note I am glad the Russians and Chinese are going in because at least then some stability for the population might occur that does not happen with air strikes and drones.

All the Middle East stuff has been fermenting for decades due to American oil lust.  Europe has always gone along with it for US military protection, getting the US to ensure their oil supply as well, and other, less pressing reasons.

But now the refugee crisis - resulting largely from American activities over the years - is causing the streaming of all the refugees to EU countries and (hopefully in their minds) Turkey.

Doesn't it occur to these countries that the #1 cause for the refugee crisis - the USA - for geographical reasons is sitting here relatively unscathed and unaffected?  Shouldn't that make them realize the fact that they have been utterly used by the US?  That the US uses "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" policies and leaves Europe to have to handle the consequences in this situation?  I don't see them bitchin' about it as common sense would dictate.  (unless the masses are bitchin' but the gov't, media, etc are suppressing it).

Assad is a butcher like his father was. No question about that.

But the whole ME scene is so convoluted and the butchery instilled there by Pax Americana's 60 year OIL crusade, so contrary to "free world" values, and its Western MIC sales of guns and poison gases to ALL AND SUNDRY over that period--chosen surrogate potentates; such a hallmark of its "shock and awe" doctrine; that Assad's contribution pales in comparison to the ISIS condotierri working for Sunni Salafism, paid for by you know who!

Whence the fact that Iran/Putin are making the US position morph into an open sewer game for the world to see. Just like VW has become on the automobile front, or Glencore as the commodity scam machine of Oligarchy third world rip-off.

a possible "solution" the weirdoes shurely think of: drop some really dirty bombs in the areas you wanna build the pipelines. No human shall survive there or be able to stay longer than a few hours after that. Assad will/must fall in these attacks. Refugees problem solved as well.

Then fabricate the pipelines with robots, use the few survived hungry men to survey the whole thing. Mission accomplished.Israel et al and Pipelines saved.

The propaganda against assad is all over europe. ALL the european news say hes responsible for everything, just everything; its not just Cameron. Assad will fall, its decided. But since a 3.WW could end in uncontrollable ways, there must be a solution thats not ending with Russia and China et al bombing Europe and the US, cause the show must go on, business as usual.

In 2005, the French voted, by referendum, AGAINST European  Constitution ( Maasricht-Lisbon Treaty), which said that the countries that accepted it should belong to OTAN. France refused the Lisbon Treaty, thus refused to belong to  OTAN by referendum. Consequently, the French presidents' obedience to the European Union Constitution principles is illegitimate, such as obeying OTAN orders. French President Charles de Gaulle had rejected OTAN ( the French had voted for getting out of OTAN ) and President Sarkozy obeyed UE Constitution principles illegally and thus obeyed OTAN orders illegally.

Today, the French and all the European countries are governed by  powerless elected presidents and governments who obey the laws of illegitimate European Union Parliament (even rejected by referendum) . The European Union is a non elected supranational entity composed of illegally imposed representatives of the international billionaires. It is a totalitarian antidemocratic system . All the EU  countries are submitted to a non elected imposed Parliament.

Of course the French ordinary citizens are mostly against US-OTAN wars, against all wars . How can a country goçvernment claim  they are fighting for their defense when they attack, far from home,  foreign villages , towns, families ?

Everyday, we watch and listen to  omnipresent mediatic OTAN propaganda with  Irak, Syria as enemies . But we should remember that a few years ago, the American-OTAN propaganda was against Cuba and Iran and tried to persuade the world  that Iran was the absolute danger and had to be destroyed. Today the USA, Cuba, Iran seem to be financial allies again since their oligarchs sign new profitable trade contracts .
