Trump Promises To Cut Middle-Class Taxes, Gets Carl Icahn Endorsement - Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

Republican presidential nominee front-runner Donald Trump, amid massively variant poll numbers (Fox >40%, WSJ ~21%?), plans to unveil his tax plan today, that, as WSJ reports, would eliminate income taxes for millions of households, lower the tax rate on all businesses to 15% and change tax treatment of companies’ overseas earnings. Trumps's plan claims to bring "sanity, common sense and simplification to the nation's catastrophic tax code," and, despite plans to end "carried interest" tax breaks - most loved by hedge fund managers - Carl Icahn has come out and endorsed Trump as "the only candidate that speaks about the country's problems."

Mr Trump explains...

“My plan will bring sanity, common sense and simplification to our country’s catastrophic tax code,” Mr. Trump said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “It will create jobs and incentives of all kinds while simultaneously growing the economy.”

Under the Trump plan, no federal income tax would be levied against individuals earning less than $25,000 and married couples earning less than $50,000. The Trump campaign estimates that would reduce taxes to zero for 31 million households that currently pay at least some income tax. The highest individual income-tax rate would be 25%, compared with the current 39.6% rate.

Many middle-income households would have a lower tax rate under Mr. Trump’s proposal, but because high-income households generally pay income tax at much higher rates, his proposed across-the-board rate cut could have a positive impact on them, too. For example, an analysis of Jeb Bush’s plan—taxing individuals’ incomes at no more than 28%—by the business-backed Tax Foundation found that the biggest percentage winners in after-tax income would be the top 1% of earners.

Mr. Trump’s plan appears designed to help him, as the GOP front-runner, cement his standing as a populist—though that message is complicated by the fact that the billionaire, like other Republican leaders, would eliminate the estate tax.

...

To pay for the proposed tax benefits, the Trump plan would eliminate or reduce deductions and loopholes to high-income taxpayers, and would curb some deductions and other breaks for middle-class taxpayers by capping the level of individual deductions, a politically dicey proposition. Mr. Trump also would end the “carried interest” tax break, which allows many investment-fund managers to pay lower taxes on much of their compensation.

A significant revenue gain would come from a one-time tax on overseas profits that could encourage U.S. multinational corporations to return an estimated $2.1 trillion in cash now sitting offshore, largely to avoid U.S. taxes. His proposal would impose a mandatory 10% tax on all of that money, even if the money stays overseas, but allow a few years for the tax to be paid. The Trump campaign estimates that many companies would choose to bring their money back home, boosting jobs and investment in the U.S.

Mr. Trump also would impose an immediate tax on overseas earnings of American corporations; currently, such tax payments can be deferred. All told, the campaign says the plan would be revenue neutral—neither raising nor lowering federal revenues—by the third year and then begin adding revenue.

...

The plan proposes to simplify tax filing for many lower- to middle-income households. The plan says that some 42 million households that currently file tax forms to establish that they don’t owe any federal income tax now will be able to file their returns on a single page.

Additionally, Carl Icahn backs Trump’s calls to end carried-interest loopholes and rules that encourage corporations to relocate overseas and avoid repatriating profits.

In a video and interview due to be published tomorrow, Bloomberg reports that Carl Icahn shares Donald Trump’s criticism of the U.S.’s failure to overhaul taxation and immigration and raise interest rates.

“I would say it’s an endorsement. I think at this moment in time, he’s the only candidate that speaks out about the country’s problems,” Icahn said by phone. “I’m behind Trump. I disagree on certain points I don’t want to get into, I’m sure those can be worked out, but the basic thing is, you need somebody that can get things going in Congress, and I think he can do it. You need somebody that understands business, and I think he understands it.”

Sorry Mr Trump but everyone must pay at least a minimum tax to inspire national ownership and build individual responsibility.  People need connected and if need be, forced to connect so they can feel the impact and become involved with the working of "their" country.  We should all be in this together.

Is that you MDB? Take your 'social contract' type bullshit somewhere else.

And I don't think that's gonna make much difference. While im all for giving the US govt less money, his tax plan isn't going to mesh well with his 'more military spending and taking out ISIS ' plan. Cont do both of those things at once.

Sounds like more socialist bullshit to me.  Why work when someone else will take care of you?  Our economy is slowing because there are more horses sitting in the wagon, than are pulling the wagon.  And alot of the horses that are pulling the wagon are looking back seeing the horses in the wagon, and figuring, why should I pull when I can sit?  90+ million Americans NOT in the labor force.  Remember, the labor force participation rate is at 1970's lows!!  And those people are not only NOT paying taxes, they are getting handouts (anti-taxes).  Don't come with this "they pay sales taxes" baloney either.  Those people are getting more back than they have ever paid in BY FAR.

Anybody who isn't for the complete abolishment of the income tax isn't serious about freedom, or the long term future of our country.

That said, the Federal Government as it is currently composed is doomed, no matter what anybody does about taxes going forward. So The Donald gets a pass on this. It's important to keep in mind that Trump needs to do only one thing to justify his existence: destroy the Republican Party as we know it. If this misguided tax policy helps him do that, then more power to him.

"Our economy is slowing because there are more horses sitting in the wagon, than are pulling the wagon."

Absolute nonsense. Our economy is slowing because the vast majority of the wealth of the nation has been concentrated in extremely few hands, hands that have gone mad with greed. Those same hands are now strangling the rest of us, seeking to extract whatever wealth remains, using any means necessary.

When our government sees fit to allow millions to sleep on the streets, while simultaneously spending $50Bn a MONTH to bail out the banks and Wall Street, it becomes painfully clear who actually owns our government and what their intentions are.

Well put, considering:

"...these Thieves at the top of the corporate ladder have awarded themselves salaries as much as 10,000% higher than the pay of CEO’s/senior management, back in the days when we enjoyed general prosperity in our economies/societies. Pay some union member 10% more than he deserves, and it’s a national outrage, often prompting legislative reprisals from the traitor politicians. But pay some Thief-in-a-Suit 10,000% more than he deserves, and (in the eyes of the Corporate media and politicians) this is just “business as usual.”

Shareholders Must Sue Boards of Directors
http://bullionbullscanada.com/index.php/commentary/us-commentary/26651-s...

The Donald even pointed it out (though not the why).

"U.S. Republican party presidential frontrunner Donald Trump said on Sunday high salaries paid to chief executives were a “joke” and a “disgrace” and said these were often approved by company boards stacked with the CEO’s friends.

Trump, a real estate mogul who has said he plans to use his net worth of $8.7 billion to fund his White House campaign, said in an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation” that it was hard to tackle the question of corporate pay because too many corporate boards lacked independence.

“It’s disgraceful. Sometimes the boards rule but I would say it’s probably less than 10 percent; and you see these guys making enormous amounts of money. It’s a total and complete joke,” he said. "

Now, how would the CEO's load up the board? Wonder who the majority shareholders are?

Well Ellot you are half right the top 1% has to be addressed, but getting the 100 or so million not working contributing in some fashion will be absolutetly necessary to turn this thing around.  Institutionalized welfare and disability have to be ended.

No candidate has addresed the problem at both ends.  Unfortunately Trump seems to be the only one out there with an idea.

- Higher Competition against larger, much larger Labor Force
- Immigration, Open Borders, H1B VISAs
- Cheap Services and products available in the US from overseas producers
- Criminalization of what 15-25 Million people

- Narrowing of Responsibilities, Scope of Jobs, to keep Jobs at low Pay Levels, more less skilled work even if competition is higher, less opportunity to learn the business and then compete against your employer or industry
- Less Career Advancement in today's work world
- Fewer Job Openings

It is because some people are simply intractable and intransigent. There are those who simple want to argue and complain about something and have a fetish for spitting venom when a plan is not 100% of their own ideal.

The truth is that this is the best tax reform plan proposed in memory over the past two generations.  Simplifying the code is crucial to erode the power the IRS and position that 'club members' have in paying effective rates of 0% while the rest of us can't even use legitimate deductions for fear of IRS audit.

As it stands, the FSA pays a net negative tax, so forget about them.

Cut the FSA spending to go along with the larger FSA.  Cut it completely, actually, and live within the bounds of the U.S. Constitution.

97% of the money supply comes from Credit as created by banks at moment of hypothecation.

The remaining 3% is bills and coins.  Coins are issued by Treasury, and represent seiginiorage, which lowers taxes.

When government taxes, they re-spend existing "credit."

Bank money, which is credit, comes into being with a debt instrument.  The credit returns to its source and disappears.  The dwell time for credit to stay in supply is a function of its debt instrument (drain) and new credit formation (new loans).

Yes, obviously some are pretty fucking stupid and make wrongheaded assertions (look in the mirror much?)...  IMAGINING how things are, or conflating household economics with government, are typical mistakes people make.

Depends on your view of taxes. If you believe it is govt stealing your work and spending how they see fit, then no, it's just less theft.

If you believe that the government owns you and ALL your income and just graciously allows you to keep some, then yes.

Cat, I'm sorry but that has to be the stupidest comment I've seen on ZH in my 4 years here.  I work for and earn my money! The taxes taken from my paycheck are by force.. I would not pay them willingly as I don't believe anyone has a right to my income except me.....I've been in handcuffs before for this and decided I did not wish to stay locked up so I have to play their game by force.

So you explain to me how eliminating income taxes is giving me something?

"[Jewish billionaire George Soros] is often accused of masterminding some world conspiracy ... if the [economic] global crisis keeps spreading -- as most experts expect -- you won't hear much more talk about blaming Soros and his Jewish cronies. Anger will probably focus increasingly on the leaders of the [International Monetary Fund] and the Washington policy makers who stand behind it. The bad news is that most of them are Jewish too. Israel's daily Yediot Achronot recently published an unintentionally chilling list of senior economic policymakers known to be attending Kol Nidre services in Washington on the eve of the IMF summit. Among them: Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin and his top deputy Lawrence Summers [who later succeeded Rubin as Treasury Secretary], World Bank Chairman James Wolfenson and his top deputy, Josef Stieglitz; Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, and IMF Director Stanley Fischer. That's scary. And it's only a partial list."

J.J. Goldberg, Market Meltdown. As the World Economic Crisis Turns Scary, Scapegoating Looms. Watch Your Back. Jewish Week, October 16, 1998, p. 12

"When [Israeli public opinion survey company] Hanoch Smith asked his Israeli respondents whether the Jews of America have control of important branches of the American economy, 73 per cent replied in the affirmative ... In a non-Jewish society, this would have aroused suspicion of anti-Semitism, but emanating from a Jewish society, it seemed both a matter of pride and bewilderment."

Colin Shindler, Ploughshares into Swords. Israelis and Jews in the Shadow of the Intifada, I. B. Tauris, London, 1991, p. 94-95

"A survey identifying Britain's wealthiest family names by their postcard areas has produced a fascinating insight into the national makeup of the 50 surnames most common among the movers and shakers ... More than 20 are from Jewish families [although Jews make up only 1% of the British population] ... There are more Cohens in the top group than any other family name ... Just behind are Levy, Bloom and Wolf ... This [trend] is confirmed by other surveys."

In 2014, the richest 1% of people in the world owned 48% of global wealth, leaving just 52% to be shared between the other 99% of adults on the planet. Almost all of that 52% is owned by those included in the richest 20%, leaving just 5.5% for the remaining 80% of people in the world. If this trend continues of an increasing wealth share to the richest, the top 1% will have more wealth than the remaining 99% of people in just two years, as shown on Figure 2, with the wealth share of the top 1% exceeding 50% by 2016.

There are too many problems to list completely it seems.

Yes. Federal Employment system, Political Appointment System, Money in Politics, Money as Free Speech, No term Limits for Supreme Court & Congress & Lobbyist & Lawyers & Political Appointees & No limit to length in Federal Service ... in General.

Repost:

How do we correctly identified the Problem/Problems?

1. Antisemitism has become an issue
2. Wealth & Income Gap is clearly getting worse
3. Greed in the USA & EU is characterized by the Capitalist total disregard for the lives of the common people, the costs they face, the conditions they live with, the rise in crime, the disregard for activism, free speech, public assembly to protest, and lack of influence on Politicians and Technocrats
4. Money and Self Promotion have taken over govt, banking, law, civil suits, auditing, financial ratings, and politics
5. Free Trade, Open Border, STEM VISAs, Refugees, Wage Suppression of Labor Force, manipulation of markets by those with advantages for personal gain

Repost:

- US Needs Sweeping Reforms
- Foreigners will not ask for Sweeping Reforms due to influence, dependence on funding, self promotion, greed, and the fact that the US is a Political, Economic, Financial, and Military Superpower

Was thinking about this.

Central Bank, Banking, Finance, Real Estate, Federal Budget Process is not being used by congress, US Courts are influenced by those with the most money and biggest legal teams, Financial Regulators can't fight many big battles in court, Regulators are influenced by the president and congress who support their lobbyists... and those are just some of the many problems that demand reform.

Identify the Problem:

- Greed, Corruption, Cronyism (Networking included), Money in Politics & Government, Money in Elections, Money as Free Speech, War is a Racket, Foreign Policy is a Racket, Party Line of Democracy is a Racket, both political parties are One Political Party.

- Suppression of Free Speech, Free Press, Monopolies in Media/Telecoms, and suppression of wages and jobs through globalism.

- Term Limits for Lawyers, Lobbyist, and DC Politicians... end political appointments, we have plenty of old boy networking without politicians putting in their guys too

- And if you look closely at the Federal Budget Increases, the Budget Deficit Trend, the dismantling of our Banking Regulations and Financial Standardization... and our Financial Ratings Agencies, Non-Standard Accounting, Corporate Overhead and Leverage that steal from small stock investors, ... Capital, Savings, and Jobs going overseas, ... Low Investment in the US in Capital Facilities or Capital Expansion or Infrastructure, ... Trends in Wealth and Income Gap... It is Clear we have a National Security Crisis and Constitutional Crisis.

- Our Dysfunctional Congress not only doesn't correct simple problems, obvious errors in banking, it constantly passes bills in favor of Pharma, Fossil Fuels, and Finance and Banking... against the poor & middle class.

- War is not Free Speech

- War as a Policy is a Violation of International Treaty

- US Citizens deserve National Referendums

- End the Electoral College System so Elites can't decide our National Elections

- End the Private Corporation known as the FED

Carl Icahn “took” in the form of prices, with Greenmail.  Greenmailers force producers to defend their business by diverting profits to stockholders rather than re-investment into new productivity and improved labor ability.

Greenmailers take target companies pensions onto double entry ledger and include it as an asset when taking over.  This asset allows greenmailer to “borrow” more credit.  Borrowing more credit sends usury to banker, thus it shows up in prices later. Borrowing credit to take over a company also ignores the prime directive of credit:  It should only be used to go after GDP type activity.  Buying up an existing company does not increase GDP.  The Credit money supply  increases with the new loan, and it chases after an existing asset changing of hands.

This action is something like two people selling a house.  There are no new houses, but the economic activity shows up in NIPA accounting reports as if it is actual GDP increase.  Accountants are even lying with their statistics, which show how deep the hypnotic trance goes.

Greenmailers , once they acquire their target company, they dismember it into parts.  The laggard part may end up in bankruptcy, and the “good” part get jacked up in price.  Or Greenmailer may attach the good part to a company he already owns, and makes a bigger company.

Greenmailer will defend their action as creating new synergies…right… and  I have some beach-front properties in Arizona.  An existing owner of a company could make same deals to merge with another company if he wanted.

Big companies are highly efficient…right?  A few companies owning the world, and we then can expect low prices?   Go look at oxfam link again, if you belive this. (I posted it earlier.)

Medium to small business are what drive innovation and are the major source of employment.  Greenmailers like Ichan are part of parasite class who have hypnotized host population to think they are beneficial.

Finance, for the most part, is extractive  - a giant rent operation, and welfare for the rich.

Finance Capitalism makes people think that prices are fair and not force.  When goods and services are Not AT THEIR LOWEST COST VALUE, it is the same thing as being forced to pay higher taxes.

If you are referring to a real genetic Judean Jew, then yes, you make a good point.

Anyone who says they WANT to be POTUS is automatically disqualified, IMO, of having a sound mind, and is therefore ineligible for my vote.

Mr. Trump also would end the “carried interest” tax break, which allows many investment-fund managers to pay lower taxes on much of their compensation.........

Media Matters, the mouthpiece for hedge fund uber boy Gyorgy "Goerge Soros" Schwartz, is as one would expect claiming Trump will lower taxes on the rich.  carried interest is not mentioned.

I have been banned at MM.  would someone please straighten them out?  here is the link

From overmedication:

mefobills, envy looks good on you.

Bullshit.

I'm just aware of who is mounting me from behind.  There are invisible hands in your pockets too.  I'm aware that this parasite class is leading civilization off of a cliff.

Most people think it is the Government taking in taxes that is the root of eviiiiilll.  And while that is true to some extent, it also ignores that Government is the fourth mode of production.

Roads, bridges, clean water...these things that government provide are in addition to the other modes of production.

Land + Capital + Labor + Government = all economic activity.

Capital can then be divided into extractive and productive.

I am pointing out the extractive capital which is NON PRODUCTIVE, and worse, leads directly toward Oligarchy.

I dont' have any class envy. By now, you guys should know that I'm smart enough to be successful in my own right.

I put things to people here on ZH in the hopes that scales will fall from eyes.  Otherwise, I have no dog in this fight.  I materially gain not at all by posting here at ZH.

Remove "government", the tool of the oligarchy, and you remove the oligarchs.

Government is evil.  Government is murder.

Repost: Purge Solutions:

-

- Ban people for life from Congress, Politically Appointed Positions
- Ban people for life from Law Practice
- Ban people for life from Lobbying
- Ban people for life from working in Banking or Finance (FIRES)

- If wealthy put their money off shore, they will be banned from any of the above positions, for life, since they are taking the life style of an Expatriot with more than $100,000 off shore by date of bill with 3% increase per year to raise the floor with inflation

- When wealthy get classified as Expatriots, they also lose access to federal contracts and doing any business with government at any level state, local, or federal

Now let's think of something tougher

- Mandatory Retirement from US Congress after 8 years
- Maximum federal service 25 years including military time
- Maximum Central Bank service 8 years
- Maximum Lobbying 4 years (but no lobbying for ex-congress members)
- Maximum Political Appointees 8 years service, but not allowed for central bankers, lobbyist, think tank employees, or former congressmen

Yeah, Trump, let's think outside the box.

Nothing like being wedded to ideas that have zero chance of ever being adopted, especially when not well thought through.

For instance, term limits for politicians will actually increase the power of the unelected bureaucracy.  But of course they only have our best interests at heart so that will work out well.
