Caught On Tape: Dramatic Footage Of Russia's First Airstrikes In Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

As we reported earlier this morning, at the “request” (whatever that means in the context of Russian politics) of Vladimir Putin, Russian lawmakers have approved airstrikes in Syria and unlike the rather deliberate pace of Washington’s efforts to rout ISIS, Moscow doesn’t appear to be wasting any time.

As CNN reports, Russia has conducted its first strikes near Homs after effectively warning the US to stay out of the sky.

Russia has conducted its first airstrike in Syria, near the city of Homs, a senior U.S. official told CNN on Wednesday .

The Russians told the United States that it should not fly U.S. warplanes in Syria, but gave no geographical information about where Russia planned to strike. The senior official said U.S. missions are continuing as normal.

Yes, the “US missions are continuing as normal”, which means no one is doing much of anything and some CIA-trained proxy fighters are being pick-up-truck-jacked somewhere by al-Qaeda.

In any event, here are the visuals which purport to show Russia’s first strikes on anti-regime targets:

And a few still shots:

*  *  *

As a side note, Homs is not generally identified as being an ISIS stronghold, although the group did reportedly seize Al-Qaryatain in August:

And the Pentagon is already out trying to stir up the controversy (again via CNN):

But a senior U.S. administration official told CNN's Elise Labott the Russian airstrike near the city of Homs "has no strategic purpose" in terms of combating ISIS, which "shows they are not there to go after ISIL." ISIL is another acronym for ISIS.

You are comparing apples and chainsaws. During the 90s the Russians were dealing wiyh total economic collapse...military was in disarray, and Putin was not in charge..a bunch of idiots in yhe Yeltsin mode were. At that point Russia could hardly take on NATO. BUT IT CAME CLOSE. LOOK UP PRISTINA AIRPORT which they refused to give up. In fact ..it came close to starting WW3...Gen. Weslry Clark wanted the Brits under Gen. Mike Jackson to take on the Russians, he told Clark..am not starting WW3 for you. As for Christianity, Russia today is more Christian then we are ..both archbishops in Syria asked long ago for Putins help, he is finally getting round to it. You have no clue what is happening in Russia..or the changes that have taken place. If the Balkan war happened today , I guarantee you ..NATO WOULD NOT BE running roughshod over Christian Serbs. You DO realize Clinton used black ops budget to hire mercs to drive 150,000 Christians out of Kosovo. That would not happen today,  the Russians would not allow it. Very good article i  New English Review, Clintons Bastard Army..adventures in NATO'S Wag the Dog war.

Donbass (DPR) Prime Minister Alexander Zakarchenko has said there will be NO Minsk 3.

This means that Minsk 1 and 2 were hastily called because the Ukrainian Army was caught in a cauldron both sides aka they were surrounded.  They were about to be ground up.

DPR knew a lot of Ukrainian cannon fodder were trapped and let them go. Many of those Ukie men are poor and were conscripted by force.   Fortunately, they were able to lay down their arms and leave the cauldrons.  The mercenary Spec Ops ZATO boys were probably also trapped in the cauldron.

Zakarchenko said the next time the DPR and LPR will not stop.  DPR captured tons of equipment including tanks, BMPs, grads, artilerry and tons of ammo.  The Ukraine has nothing.  No one will send them anything because Kiev will steal it and sell it.  The British sent them useless Saxons and one crashed and killed the Ukie driver.

DPR has a professional army now and I bet DPR and LPR would beat most European armies except maybe Poland and Germany.

It was stopped because Putin forced it to be stopped.

Even if you are foolish enough not to see that then the actions of the EUke's is even more stupid.  Those who were trapped were shooting, firing artillery and killing the people of EUke and they were let go. After the first time they were let go they came back and killed some more, and were let go a second time.  That was Putin's doing not the people of EUke.

The military leader said this was a betrayal by Putin.

Actually, it's been pretty quiet over on that front, which was a bit of a surprise to me. The campaign season is virtually over and things seem pretty static.

Possible reasons for this stalemate:

Ukrainian fear of Russian intervention?

Russian fear of triggering additional forward positioning of NATO assets to its border regions?

Lack of money on either one or both sides to carry on this expensive business?

Orders from the imperial proxy controllers on one or both sides to knock it off for a while?

Feel free to tell me to go fuck myself or suggest that I am fond of some vile sexual practice you wish to share with the audience..

Blankone's picture

I do not understand your last sentence.  I do not recall having done so.  (My mistake, ZH at the time showed you as responding to me.)

It is quiet.  Too quiet I think.

Another possibility is internal instability within the Kiev govt due to power grabs in order to reep the rewards of corruption.  Or instability outside the ranks due to popular resistance.  However, in regards to the latter, the assisnations all seem to be supportive of the current officials and not one of the key supporters have been sniped.

My thought is the west was getting prepared to hit hard and I have been waiting for some excuse to do so to occur.  But it has not happened.  Consider the move in Syria might also be related to Putin pushing buttons in Syria to attempt to derail any actions in Uke for a period of time.

Putin gets the resolve to make a strike, coordinated multiple large bombs explode at the same time in China and you get a general feeling there will be more movement by both sides.

As I have said before:  WHEN PUTIN FINALLY DELIVERS THE S-300/S-2500 ANTI AIR MISSILES TO SYRIA AND IRAN AS CONTRACTED FOR IN 2007 - THEN- YOU KNOW SOMETHING IS AFOOT.  (If Putin intends to support Syria and Iran why would he not do so?)

Wed, 09/30/2015 - 14:54 | 6612357 The Indelicate ...
The Indelicate Genius's picture

"To summarize the above I would say this: the AngloZionists are freaking out because their war against Syria has failed; while Daesh has created havoc and terror in several countries, there are many signs that the local countries are gradually becoming determined to do something. The US has also failed to get rid of Assad, the massive refugee crisis has triggered a major political crisis in Europe, and now the Europeans are looking at Assad in a dramatically different light than before. Russia has clearly decide to get politically involved with all the regional powers, effectively displacing the USA, and there are pretty good indications that the Russians are keeping their options open. And while there are absolutely no reasons to suspect that Russia is planning a major military intervention in the conflict in terms of quantity, there are signs that the Russian support has risen to a new qualitative level.

Two things need to be stressed here:

First, on a political level, it is still exceedingly unlikely that Russia would take any major unilateral action in this war. While Syria is a sovereign country and while a Syrian-Russian agreement is enough to legally justify any military move agreed to by both parties, Russia will try hard not to act alone. This explains why Foreign Minister Lavrov is trying so hard to create some kind of coalition.

Second, on a military level, the country to look at is not Russia but Iran. The Iranians have a safe and secure land-line to Syria (via northern Iraq) and they have the kind of combat forces which could be successfully engage against Daesh. The same goes for Hezbollah which has, and will in the future, send its elite forces to support the Syrians in strategically vital areas. Should there be a need for a major ground operation in support of the Syrian forces, these are the forces we should expect to intervene, not the Russians.

In conclusion I would say that what we see taking place it “typical Putin”: while western leaders typically prefer high visibility actions which bring immediate (but short term) results, Putin prefers to let his opponent inflict the maximal amount of damage upon himself before intervening in gradual, slow steps. The unleashing of Daesh by the AngloZionists was a kind of a “political shock and awe” which did almost overthrow the Syrian government. When that initial “fast-acting” but short term strategy failed, Assad was still there, but Daesh had turned into a Golem monster which threatened everybody and which nobody could control. As for Assad, he was gradually downgraded from being a “new Hitler” gassing his own people into somebody who will clearly be a part of the solution (whatever “solution” will eventually emerge).

The lesson for all those who resist the Empire is obvious: the hardest thing is to remain standing after the first “blow” delivered by the imperial forces. If you can survive it (as the Donbass and Syria have done), then time is on your side and the position of the Empire will begin to weaken slowly but surely because of its own internal contradictions. When that process being, you must not fall into the trap of over-commitment, but gradually occupy each position (political or other) given up by the Empire in the process of the disintegration while securing your own each step of the way.

It is way too early for any triumphalism – Daesh is still here, and so are the Ukronazis in Kiev, and the Empire has not given up on them quite yet. The good news is that the tide has now visibly turned and while there is still a long struggle ahead, the eventual defeat of the Takfiris and Nazis appears to be inevitable."

For Iran and other to move outside their safe zones the Russians MUST provide effective air cover for them against the powers of the west and Israel.

There is a coalition with Syria, Iraq, Iran and Russia. They coordinate the attacks.

Or do you mean, a coalition has to have western coalitioners to be recognized?

At least 36 civilians were killed in Russian air strikes on Syria on Wednesday, it has been claimed.

The head of the Turkey-based Syrian National Coalition, political opponents of President Bashar al-Assad, said civilians were killed in five different areas.

"The targeted areas in today's Russian air raid in Homs were those areas which fought ISIL and defeated it a year ago," Khaled Khoja said.

Look - there is no way to target in civilian area ISIS fighters and not to kill civilians. There are no such bombs that could avoid civilian casualties. Anyone can understand that. It's not rocket science. Simply putin regime has joined others who made such strikes and during which civilians were killed. That is why I wrote before that only boots on the ground in Syria can win ISIS. Not such bombings.

This EU funded one man propaganda band (SOHR) out of the UK has been exposed numerous times...by readers here too.  But you don't question the sources when it says what you want to read do you?

http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-syrian-observatory-for-human-rights-is-...  (all the way back in 2013 it was obvious but trolls never care).

Get some better info and get back to us...until then we will shred these lame attempts.  Unlike you, we don't have to worship a government or a politician so just quite with the ad hominem "leads".  We only care about information from credible sources.

Might as well tell ISIS if they told the usa. That's the first clue they know the link between the usa and ISIS

Russia will most likely work with Syria in support of Syrian ground forces. A much better plan of action than a few wedding bombings per usa. No need for Russian or usa troops with Syria doing the grunt work. It's a damn shame another nation has to go in and clean up our mess.

its genetical   it took me a long time to understand, change myself and stop making fun of people, if jews make fun of other people its the only way they can feel happiness

thats why so many jews are frustrated, they cant make friends and no one likes them but they blame the other

on tv there are good examples of disgusting jew humor

There is absolutely no proof from the above that Russia jets bombed anything. So why state it as a fact. Could easily have been US, Australian, NATO, Israel, Turkey or Saudies jets. Hell it could have been multiple explosions from bombs placed there by individuals. As the Syrian police and an ambulance are on the scene and there are no weapons that people are holding so it doesn't look like a terrorist strong hold but civilians which the Syrian and Russia air forces would not bomb. Seems the west is at it again. Poor reporting by ZH. The headline "Caught on tape" is more crap like the MSM pushes.

Can you believe anything you see and hear from CNN?  Putin has stated unequivocally that no Ruusian will be conducting any combat missions in Syria. Any Russians in Syria are there to train and assist only. Anything otherwise would also be against Russian law for Putin and his executive to unilaterally send troops to fight aboard. Russia is not a carbon copy of the USA and acts under a totally different regime of stimuli, like the respect for law.

Apparently the Duma gave permission on Wednesday for Russian air force personnel to carry out attacks in Syria so I satand corrected but retain my opinion of CNN and Russian adherenece to the norms of law.

Seriously, Yemen is Saudi Arabia's soft underbelly, literally. I'm sure Iran and Russia know this, so expect a long festering wound that never heals and continues to drain off Saudi finances and military capability, not to mention any moral high ground they ever had.

The Saudis are in a bind. Them threatening Russia is a very clear indication. A public threat like that is a sure sign that they are losing their cool, more accurately, losing their mind.
