Obamanomics: Food Stamp Growth Outpaces Jobs In Illinois During "Recovery"
Submitted by Michael Lucci via The Illinois Policy Institute,
Illinois is the only state in the Midwest to have added more people to food-stamp rolls than to employment rolls during the recovery from the Great Recession. Job losses from the Great Recession occurred from January 2008 to January 2010, and since then, states have had five-and-a-half years of recovery.
During the recovery from the Great Recession, the Land of Lincoln, alone in the Midwest, had more people enter the food-stamps program than start jobs. Food-stamps growth in Illinois has outpaced jobs creation by a 5-4 margin.
In every other Midwestern state, jobs growth has dramatically outpaced food-stamps growth during the recovery. In fact, in every other state in the region, jobs growth dwarfs food-stamps growth. But during the recovery, Illinois put more people on food stamps than every other Midwestern state combined.

Manufacturing has borne the brunt of Illinois’ policy failures. From the state’s broken workers’ compensation system, to the highest property taxes in the region, to the lack of a Right-to-Work law while surrounding states enact Right to Work, Illinois has the worst policy environment in the Midwest for manufacturers.
The result for Illinois factory workers? The Land of Lincoln has put 25 people on food stamps for every manufacturing job created during the recession recovery.

And the recovery that Illinois’ manufacturers have experienced has been especially anemic. After losing 117,000 manufacturing jobs during the recession, Illinois has only regained 17,400 of those factory jobs since January 2010. Meanwhile, the other Great Lakes states have pulled far ahead of Illinois during the recovery. Michigan has added 135,600 manufacturing jobs, Indiana has added 80,400, Ohio has added 74,500 and Wisconsin has added 48,700.
Illinois’ lack of jobs growth, especially in blue-collar industries, has driven more and more Illinoisans to dependency on government, while residents of the other Great Lakes states join the ranks of the employed and leave the food-stamps program. Michigan surpassed Illinois in 2014 for manufacturing jobs created, while Illinois has surpassed Michigan for the percentage of residents on food stamps. Illinoisans depend on food stamps more than do the residents of any other state in the region.

Obama on Obamanomics:
"It's all George Bush's fault."
Praise be to Dear Leader.
Let a week of crying for his wonderfulness to begin
The Obama presidential library will, surely, open it's doors to the homeless and downtrodden of Illinois, offering them a place to sleep, read, freely access the internet and deficate in the archive stacks.
And a shrine to Frank Marshall Davis, where young communists can light a candle for progress
What do you have to provide via a legal requirement to get on food stamps in NY? I wonder if I can qualify.
You need to be employed and drive a McLaren 650S.
"The Obama Presidential Homeless Shelter" has a ring of credibility to it.
Obama number 1!
Food stamps for most Americans, Treasury money drops in the form of QE to the top 0.01%.
The poor get welfare and food stamps, the rich get zero percent free FED funny money to invest as they please along with insider information and the middle class gets to pay for it all. Any they wonder why most people are fed up.
THE savior for the poor! Without obama they would have starved due to Bush's presidencey.

Soon they'll reach 3rd world status and we can send in UN 'peacekeepers' to help with the rape, pillage and burn...on the barbarian side.....
O'Bama's home state?
As much as I detest Obama, you can't lay all this on him. The State is run by Chicago & it is run by crooks. They may be legalized crooks but crooks nonetheless.
And the dirty Chicago machine is where he was trained.
And my wife continues to ask why I don't want to move back "home" to Illinois. If I continue forwarding her these articles maybe she will stop asking.
Yes, yes, it is, though much of his training was in Indonesia. Islam & Liberalism...very similar.

Can we build a fence around the place and make the Illini pay for it?

Stores are now starting to do 'layaways' for Christmas of 2017. It's already too late for 2016.
How's that for recovery optimism.
Seriously? I never heard that.
Yeah, and Thanksgiving decorations are in boxes ready for the shelves. Stores are in panic/survival mode trying to grab that last consumer dollar in the poor slobs wallet. There's only so many depression dollars to go around and a consumer who can spend is as rare as the Blue-Footed, Orange-Beaked, Do-Do Bird.
I saw the local Target starting Halloween placement two weeks ago - didn't think it was too far out of line.
And then there are those dedicated Halloween costume stores that occupy retail space year-round. Gotta wonder how they stay in business - guess the payout from Halloween season pays for rent for the remaining months?
Plenty of people do various themed based parties all year long. Not to mention the sexual aspect of doing some costume activities with your partner in those endeavors.
If they're anything like firework stores around me, yes. Know a guy that owns one. Makes 95% of his money in three summer months. The rest of the year, he drives a snow plow truck or does odd jobs here and there to stay busy. Has a nice house, cars, toys, etc. makes a good living. Gets the container shipment from China, straight from the docks. Mark ups are anywhere from 500-2000%. Take a few containers at $25-30k, turn it into $250-300k, rent a storefront for $24k, pay a few minimum wagers to keep the lights on in the slow months, pay some taxes and import/shipping fees, bank the rest.
Cloward-Piven at work
Illinois is a SHITHOLE!
That is all....
I just work here.
It is both funny and interesting that every time the Chicago locals run up against a payment of some sort (let's say a pension fund) they ALWAYS look to tax the shit out of something first. Everyone in Chicago thinks things are going great because they are still going. The city does look nice and the killing fields are places tourists don't/shouldn't go anyway so from that aspect everything is covered.
But when the EBTs get pulled all hell is going to break loose. These people have a strong sense of entitlement. They want theirs, they are owed theirs and they will get or take theirs.
If you took out Chicago Illinois would be fine.
If O'bummer had stayed in Illinois maybe his skills as community organizer and state congressman could have been better put to use to stave off this failure? Oh wait, he is a promoter of dependence on the state... nevermind.
Flak Vest sales and pawn shops should be hopping in Chicago. Not enough to create more new jobs?
Pawn shops only prosper when there are buyers for the merchandise. All sellers and no buyers isn't a good formula.
I still remember the Chicago Sun Times newspaper headline when Obummer won the senate. "Kenyan-born super star..."
Funny how that got scrubbed out of existence.
Food stamps pay $200 for a half hour of work, filling out the application..A minimum wage job pays $2.50 an hour, after taxes, and expenses.Po' Amerikans aint as dumb as you think, that means I have to work 1 full month, just to buy what I can get for free..
Who run Bartertown?
I know, I'll buy some lottery tickets to make up for my lack of a job!
Illinoisans depend on food stamps...
Just out of curiosity, can someone please show how "Illinoisans" is to be pronounced? I mean, how should it be spelled phonetically? (In "English")
just wondering
ill - i - noy - ans
Thanks.
So it's like being sick and an annoyance at the same time.
Got it.
Hey Obamamom! Meatloaf! Obamamom! MEATLOAF!
What the fuck is he doing in the oval office?
(haven't heard much from our gentle leader in some days now - must have gotten a good deal on some greens fees)
Fuck the Government! Fuck them all.
I suspect that the excuse would be the same one that they use for Chicago's gun crime: it's the surrounding states faults for having wrong laws.
Obama runs the Fed?
just think Obama is bring the Illinois model to the rest of the country. Corrupt government destroying private economy...Obama will pardon Rod any day now
same happens, just as public sector union pensions, in every large democratic majority held city in america, pisses me off our tax dollars aren't considered political contributions.
These numbers would look a lot better if they counted all of the Illinois politicians in prison who stamp license plates as manufacturing jobs.
This article overlooks the fact the cited jobs growth has been from part-time barista-style service jobs replacing good manufacturing jobs.
