Overheard At The Pentagon: "Right Now, We Are Putin's Prison Bitch"

Tyler Durden's picture

Those who frequent these pages are well aware of what’s happened to Washington’s strategy in Syria over the past several weeks. Russia’s dramatic move to enter the fray has left the US trapped, as the West attempts to hang on to a narrative that’s no longer convincing even to a largely ignorant public.

Now, the only thing left to do is either stand down and let Moscow do as it pleases in support of the Assad regime, or else get on board and acquiesce to the inevitable.

Or, summed up in simpler terms...

You are off by 13 years since their was Bush Senior and then Clinton; both the Bush and Clinton families are one in the same.  At election time, if we make it that far which I'm not convinced we will, we will have a Bush or Clinton selection.  If by some chance their is another candidate selected; there will be an intimate connection with those two families.

Well, it is clear that the US government (or at least a part of it) created and supported ISIS, with Israel and the Saud.

They seemingly did this so that through lies to the people they could create support for creating more chaos in the middle east and the overthrough of the legitimate Syrian government ... as they did in Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt and the Ukraine.

Maybe the Pentagon should be in prison and be getting its ass rammed for being criminal murderers, frauds and thieves. They deserve no respect and no assistance for what they have done. They have no honor.

Wed, 09/30/2015 - 17:21 | 6613074 Johnny_Dangerously
Johnny_Dangerously's picture

It does seem certain that the US et al. have directly and materially supported groups and individuals in Libya, Syria, Iraq, and presumably elsewhere who could only be described as "terrorists" -whether "Al Qaeda" or "ISIS" or not.

Sometimes what the media is determined not to cover is more telling than what it does.

Putin aside, Assad aside, pipelines aside - who or what in the government has supported foreign terrorists who have murdered thousands - and why isn't {perhaps a naive question?} the FBI, etc. rounding them up?

The conversation ought to change to ask this very basic question - either the United States government supports terrorism all over the world, or it is only rogue elements who will be arrested and tried.

If this doesn't happen, then it seems that those resisting US foreign policy, whatever their own flaws, are resisting evil.

Wed, 09/30/2015 - 17:47 | 6613191 Grandad Grumps
Grandad Grumps's picture

Yes, currently the entire US government is being painted with the same brush as a fomenter of terror and a hirer of terrorist mercenary armies.

It is possible that it is not the entire government, but if not, then the rest of the government is either ignorant of it (likely not) or they are afraid of the terrorist arm of the government (more likely).

I feel sorry for the people who signed on to be government employees with the idea that they would be able to do good things for our country and our world. They are now considered willing supporters of the evil.

I doubt they are powerless, but I do not doubt that they are fearful.

Said that way, especially in such a bold way, I suppose you would face no danger in being stoned as the first Christian martyr Steven was.  I’ll confess however, you, much like your own father show a remarkable knowledge of “Holy Scrip” and a clever if not downright admirable use of language and terminology to obscure, deflect and otherwise misdirect others who actually believe truth may be concealed in the miraculous.

Many Christians still have trouble with the fact that Jesus is the God of the Old Testament.  And I for one do believe no mystic or believer in mysticism can come close to the literal, material and factual belief needed to be a faithful follower of Christ.

That’s probably the reason why so many “Christians” are found to be wanting in their faith and so willing and ready to deny it when faced with hardship, temptation and / or as you’ve presented so convincingly, ridicule.

The overall fact remains, something cannot come from no – thing and the most “reasonable” explanation is that we, with our inherent proclivity to assign “right” from “wrong”, (as even your own discourse shows), defies no law of reason to ascribe our being to a self-existent being as its source.

I might add that instead of "who was his own father" might be better understood as "is his own Father".  (Time is something that is only relevent to creatures like us, not the Creator.)

Thanks, Son Of.

I knew we were fucked when the Pavlov's Dogs within the officer ranks of the USMC were hell-bent on making any and all efforts to justify America's military presence on Okinawa. Just like with Obama, who can argue with an affirmative action hire, in this case shit bag officers? You'll be tagged as a racist, if you're a white male who doesn't toe the company line.

The fringe of the armed forces is where the real Americans are, and truth be told, some are legit immigrants. It's just too bad that a large % of the officer and senior enlisted ranks are fucked up. The U.S. armed forces used to be a special place for people who believed in the institution. War has a tendency to weed out a lot of shit bags, but the peace time force has been too large since Reagan, we can't have a huge peace time force when there are no large contingencies underway.

I believe in the citizen soldier model of a Western military.

The US has been the 800lbs gorilla in the middle east ever since it decided to get involved there after the Brits completely botched the Suez Crisis back in 1956. The USSR supplied arms to Egypt, Syria and Iraq, but knew better to ever send any type of military units into America's sand box. Even the hapless Jimmy Carter was respected enough by Brezhnev to stay out. Then, along comes the community organizer. The complete laughing stock of the planet. The middle east has never been more destabilized, even during the 6 Days and Yom Kippur wars. Is this the result of incompetence on a grand scale, or by design? Why would Obama bring down the Mubarak regime, one of the best puppet governments money could buy? A stable, allied Egypt was the anchor to the left flank. Iraq is now moving toward Iran {who didn't see that one coming}. The Saudis are talking openly about deposing King Salman. You could have put American ME policy in the hands of a six year old child and got a better result. That is why I am having a difficult time believing this colossal failure was just the result of poor leadership. Don't get me wrong, I am not giving the Obama administration a pass, I despise them, and all they stand for, but the more this thing unfolds, the more I believe this was all decided years ago {Bush was in on it too}. They are putting the whole world into a position where WW3 is inevitable. You can't have all that hardware over there, and things stay static for very long. I fear a false flag is only weeks or days away. It is all coming to a head very quickly.

Agreed. Based upon the current trajectory of Washington/Westminster & Co foreign policy I see no alternative to WWIII.

Major Western .govs are ultimately controlled by criminal banksters who want a uni-polar world order to complete their global control. Russia/China/BRICS and others want a multi-polar world order. The two are not compatible.

The only unknowns are timing and what/when/where will be the trigger.

When did someone last win the Military Empire Sweepstakes?

That is not a playable game.

And when has a brilliant analysis, the standard tool of bureaucracies and intelligence services and militaries, done any good at all?

The US has a foreign policy, therefore it is losing, of course.  Russia wants to have a foreign policy?  OK, they can lose if they want.

Putin looks brilliant today.  Give it a few months, things change, and Putin's brilliant analyses will turn out to be as stupid as all of the brilliant analyses the US's Israeli-Neocons have written.  Twaddle by people not capable of running sandboxes for toddlers, but very capable as soothsayers to powerful people, they read those powerful people really good.

Officially, $500 million has been spent to vet and train 5 --- I repeat FIVE, 5 Syrian rebels!

Now how many fucking trillions has the Pentagon supposedly "lost" or "misplaced" now?

When I was in the bag (old school term during combat time for the military), if we overslept for a dental appointment, or were late for a work detail, we'd get busted in rank, Article 15'd.

While removing Assad is the ultimate goal and the US will fail at that with Russia in the mix, there's now an even greater downside risk:  Russia may attack ISIS unrestrained and much more effectively than the US.

I've beaten this horse before, but from my experience in the AF, a properly executed bombing campaign (simply using the capabilities we had 15 years ago) against ISIS would nearly fatally degrade their ability to operate.  How can you ship oil without heavy machinery?  How can they operate tanks out in the open?  How can they effectively control territory if they're forced to hide and disperse due to constant interdiction.  The oil piece is the biggest tell by far.  We're not interested in stopping ISIS at all, not even in Iraq.

Russia changes this dynamic because they have a vested interest in actually destroying ISIS.  They will use the full force of their military to do so.  Their success will highlight our failure immensely.  It's either that or we miraculously get more effective and suddenly Pentagon briefings start talking about how much progress we've actually made.

Correct. ISIS could not last 1 week under a focused attack. So the question: why is ISIS still around. Is it just that there is an idiot in charge, or something else?

Because ISIS just doesn't have neat and clean targets on them and in many cases they are indistinguishable from the civilian infrastructure.  ISIS isn't a cohesive entity either as the sloppy Western media portrays it but a bunch of coexisting factions that have attacked each other at times and changed sides.  Doesn't go over as well as the 'ISIS' bogeyman just like 'al-Qaida' was the buzzword bogeyman term for over a decade.

USAAF does really well at hitting big shiny targets but it has always had mixed (or even unwanted outright) to support close ground support operations.

Thu, 10/01/2015 - 11:51 | 6616078 KCMLO
KCMLO's picture

I agree with your assessment as well but ISIS isn't Al Qaeda.  They control defined territory, economic assets, and function like a state.  Their army is clothed civilian but the activities remain the same.  Tanks are big shiny targets and they shelled Kobani (shown on CNN no less) with impunity.  Wells and oil tanker trucks are big shiny targets as well but the money spigot for "black market" oil hasn't even slowed.

Close air support is a very tricky operation indeed and requires ground coordination.  However, even 15 years ago (while I was in), determining and tracking enemy forces (even infantry) wasn't incredibly hard given a long enough time line.  We've had over a year.  Given what I used to do, if I walked into my old squadron right now I would expect to find a full order of battle drawn up (admittedly with some blind spots), list of assets, tactics, lines of communication, C2 comms networks mapped, even names of commanders.  This was possible then even with non-traditional enemy forces.  I find it highly doubtful that the AF has degraded in ability or training.  Some of the guys I came up with were extremely talented at their jobs and back then we were all E-1 to E-5.  Those same guys are E-7 to E-9 now.  Doesn't sound like much, but in the meritocracy that is linguist/intelligence culture that the AF had, an E-6 sitting in an Airborne Mission Supervisor seat on the RC-135 can essentially drive the aircraft and its collection focus.

Well said.

And to top it off, it will be much harder for the CIA to fund and supply IS with Russia present. That alone could scatter such a band of ranting Achmeds.

But that is assuming this whole war is not by agreement. If the US, Russia and China have agreed to a war, we will see IS holding out just enough to play boogi-man.

Putin seems pretty rational, that is, his actions seem to be in line with Russia's interest.  So, he let France and Britain "take out" Quaddafi...but a screw-up there only tightened the energy screws on Germany & rest-of-Europe.  He said "after you" to Sarko and then he didn't rush in to help fix things afterward.  He has the luxury of pointing out that the plans for "what happens the next day" aren't put together very well.  "Look at Libya,"  he says, quite often.  So, your comment about oil production is interesting.  Vlad has every reason to "take out" a few Iraqi wells.  It sends a message and it raises the risk premium.  Actually, it would be even more interesting if a Russian plane accidently followed a few Toyota pick-ups across the border into Saudi and took out a well or two there.  The apologies would be very sincere, but the message would have been sent. After the b.s. for years in Chechnya and the "nice Olympics you have there" threats that Bandar made last year...it would be entirely justified.  I don't think the American guys on the ground in KSA would respond... Interesting thought....the Texas delegation might even stand and applaud.

So why haven't we done it, bombed ISIS?  Is it because its a CIA proxy army? Funded armed and trained? Maybe that's why Putin attacked them, because we can't object in public.  Very smart, and ballsy as hell.

Al Qaeda was getting too puny to scare the US public, so we invented a new bogey man.  They would have been useful in helping oust Assad too, except Barry was out manuevered by Putin (Checkers vs Chess).

Our desire to oust Assad had nothgin to do with Assad, and eveything to do with kicking Russia and Putin out of their only stronghold inthe middle east.  This is all about Putin threatening to use Rubles or Yuan to trade oil.  That's why we overthrew the pro russian government in Ukraine and why we want to overthrow the pro russian government in Syria.
