Meet Oregon School Shooter Chris Harper-Mercer: "You're Going To See God In Just About One Second"

Tyler Durden's picture

Sadly, the post-mass-shooting killer profile has become something of a media tradition in the US of late as a string of violence that includes the execution of nine African American churchgoers in Charleston and the on-air murder of a TV reporter has delivered a shock to the collective psyche of Americans and served notice that tragedies like those that occurred at Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook may well become commonplace going forward.

The latest “incident” in the mass shooting tradition came on Thursday when someone described only as “a 20-year-old man” went on a rampage at Umpqua Community College in Oregon. According to some eyewitness accounts, the shooter demanded that victims “stand up and state their religion” before summarily executing them.

On Friday, the first details are beginning to emerge about the identity of the shooter. Here’s Reuters with more:

The man killed by police on Thursday after he fatally shot nine people at a community college in southern Oregon was a nervy 26-year-old who lived close to the campus and described himself as shy, according to neighbors, media and online reports.

A law enforcement source said multiple agencies had identified the shooter as Chris Harper-Mercer. Online directories list a man of that name as having lived in Torrance, California, before moving to Winchester, Oregon.

The killer used four guns, including a type of assault rifle, in the classroom attack, CNN said. Seven people were also wounded at the Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, a timber town of about 20,000 people that adjoins Winchester.

A photo posted on a MySpace profile belonging to someone named Chris Harper-Mercer, from Torrance, showed a young man with a shaved head, dark-rimmed glasses and a serious expression. He was holding a long-barreled gun.

A neighbor next door to the Winchester building said Thursday night he recognized online photos of Harper-Mercer as being his neighbor.

In an Internet posting on the Spiritual Passions dating and social networking site, a user posted a picture that appears to be Harper-Mercer under the user name IRONCROSS45, a handle Harper-Mercer used as his email.

He described himself on the site as a 26-year-old, mixed-race "man looking for a woman." He said he was "not religious, but spiritual," and was a "teetotaler" living with his parents and a conservative Republican. Socially, he said, he was "shy at first" and "better in small groups." He described himself as "always dieting" and looking for "the yin to my yang."

And here’s further color from The New York Times:

Chris Harper Mercer, the man identified as the gunman in the deadly rampage at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., on Thursday, was a withdrawn young man who neighbors said wore the same outfit every day — combat boots, green Army pants and a white T-shirt — and was close to his mother, who fiercely protected him.

Neighbors in Winchester, Ore., and Torrance, Calif., where Mr. Mercer, 26, lived with his mother, Laurel Harper, remember a reclusive and seemingly fragile young man with a shaved head and dark glasses who seemed to recoil from social interaction.

“He always seemed anxious,” said Rosario Lucumi, 51, who rode the same bus in Torrance as Mr. Mercer when she went to work. She said she believed he took it to El Camino College. “He always had earphones in, listening to music.”

“He and his mother were really close,” said Ms. Lucumi, who estimated that Mr. Mercer and his mother, who shared a small one-bedroom apartment in Torrance, lived there for less than a year. “They were always together.”

Bryan Clay, 18, said he once asked Mr. Mercer why he wore “a military get-up” every day.

“He kind of just didn’t want of talk about it” and changed the subject, Mr. Clay said.

“He didn’t say anything about himself,” he added.

Mr. Mercer appeared to have sought community on the Internet. A picture of him holding a rifle appeared on a MySpace page with a post expressing a deep interest in the Irish Republican Army. It included footage from the conflict in Northern Ireland set to “The Men Behind the Wire,” an Irish republican song, and several pictures of gunmen in black balaclavas. Another picture showed the front page of An Phoblacht, the party newspaper of Sinn Fein, the former political wing of the I.R.A.

A picture of Mr. Mercer also appeared on a long-dormant dating website profile registered in Los Angeles. On it, he described himself as an “introvert” with a dislike for “organized religion.”

Here are the images from Mercer’s MySpace page...

...here is the above mentioned "Spiritual Passions" profile...

...and here is a review penned by someone with the same username (IRONCROSS45) after purchasing Nazi attire:

According to reports, Mercer's professed "dislike for organized religion" led him to "target" Christians, although the chilling details presented below may simply indicate that Mercer was attempting to terrorize his victims before killing them. Via CNN:

The gunman who opened fire at Oregon's Umpqua Community College singled out Christians, according to the father of a wounded student.

Before going into spinal surgery, Anastasia Boylan told her father the gunman entered her classroom firing.

"I've been waiting to do this for years," the gunman told the professor teaching the class. He shot him point blank, Boylan recounted.

Others were hit too, she told her family.

Everyone in the classroom dropped to the ground.

The gunman, while reloading his handgun, ordered the students to stand up and asked if they were Christians, Boylan told her family.

"And they would stand up and he said, 'Good, because you're a Christian, you're going to see God in just about one second,'" Boylan's father, Stacy, told CNN, relaying her account.

"And then he shot and killed them."

Mercer's blog posts, which were penned under the name "lithium_love" have apparently been removed (see here) but here are some excerpts via CNN and via another blogger who copied the entries before they were taken down. The first two paragraphs reference Virginia shooter Vester Flanagan:

I have noticed that so many people like him are all alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are. A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone. His face splashed across every screen, his name across the lips of every person on the planet, all in the course of one day. Seems the more people you kill, the more you're in the limelight.

And I have to say, anyone who knew him could have seen this coming. People like him have nothing left to live for, and the only thing left to do is lash out at a society that has abandoned them.

I just read about the houston cop shooting. Figured I’d post this since the response to my previous blog post on vester flanagan was so interesting. On the houston shooting it was reported that the suspect was influenced by black lives matter protests/movement. Although I don’t know if thats true, with all the issues about police and blacks/protestors in the news the past couple of years, it certainly seems like someone would be inspired to take action. With the constant chants of anti police rhetoric this was bound to happen. I don’t disagree that police brutality and excessive use of force is a problem, but killing an officer that never did anything to you is not the answer.

This whole event seems similar to the one in new york earlier this year where that guy killed those two cops sitting in a parked car. The inflammatory rhetoric on both sides, whether warranted or not will only continue to agitate the situation and events such as these will happen more and more. These are just my thoughts on the matter. Will continue to post more blogs on related subjects, as well any interesting thoughts I may have.

We'll leave it to readers to draw their own conclusions as to what this says about race relations in America, religion, the copy cat effect, and the outright disintegration of society. We close by noting that sadly, we doubt this is the last time we'll find ourselves profiling someone who carries out a mass shooting and we leave you with the following rather unnerving bit from The New York Times piece excerpted above:

In the offline world, Mr. Mercer’s mother sought to protect him from all manner of neighborhood annoyances, former neighbors in Torrance said, from loud children and barking dogs to household pests. Once, neighbors said, she went door-to-door with a petition to get the landlord to exterminate cockroaches in her apartment, saying they bothered her son.

“She said, ‘My son is dealing with some mental issues, and the roaches are really irritating him,’ ” Julia Winstead, 55, said.

Same thought- MySpace????  Who the fuck uses MySpace any more?  And "Republican"... I guess they had to throw that in.

This whole thing smells as phony as a $3 bill.  There was something deeper going on with this guy.  "Always seen together" with his MOM.... This guy's a wackadoodle.  The ideal kind of guy to put up to something.  Just spin him up like a top and push him in the direction you want him to go.

pretty bad when everyone on here automatically assumes this was fake. Im not disagreeing, it very well may have,(though Im reserving judgment at this point). Im merely pointing out that this country is a train wreck if so many people so casually assume that the government is doing it, as a pretense to take more of our rights away.

Its also depressing because if you genuienly believe they are capable and willing to do this, is there anything they WON'T do? Is there a limit to it? unfortunately, no, there probably isn't.

Its kinda like the moon landing. I used to think that anyone who seriously thought that was fake was bat shit crazy. Then I spent a lot of time reading about it, just curious. I have since come to the conclusion that it didn't happen, no fucking way. So, if they are willing and capable of lying about that to so many, for so long, what else are they lying about? there is no limit.  Honestly, its not the "moon landing was fake" or "that active shooter story is a lie" thats such a leap for most people to make. The problem is that if you accept that it was fake, your entire world changes, your whole outlook on our country and our government changes. Call it normalcy bias, cognitive dissonance, whatever, but thats what people have so much trouble with. Because if you think that was all a big lie, you must then acknowldge that they are probably lying about a lot of other things too.

They are lying about a lot of other things too! It has taken some of us years to figure it out and once you get over the indignation of being ass raped psycologically it becomes interesting.

"It has taken some of us years to figure it out and once you get over the indignation of being ass raped psycologically it becomes interesting."

This is a rare cause for optimism.  Once people get past that initial freak-out, the word you use is fascinating: "interesting".  Notice that that word no longer has fear in it.  If enough people come to realize that the world is not as it appears, and are not afraid, that group will become a powerful force for change.  These are the ones TPTB fear.  Needless to say, they spare no effort to "neutralize" anyone from this group who has the charisma to lead.

There will never be a lot of people able to make this leap, but will there be enough?  History marches forward...

I tend to ignore things for which there is little or no evidence but I'm a terrible sceptic.

You have to read Mainstream 'news' so you know what you are supposed to think. Then do some serious research and compare with the 'news'

I learned this in UK during the Miners' Strike in UK (84-85).

A group got together to document what the police were up to.

I sat the pub with the person in this picture who was one of the group. Lent 'em my camera and cassette recorder.

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...

I was awake already at this point, but even so was taken aback by some of the things going on in Sheffield at the time (Miners' Union HQ was - maybe still is - in Sheffield)

Government is about force, little else.

Breaking the trust shatters the nation.  Maybe that's the point.  Who in their right mind thinks that off-shoring our manufacturing could possibly be good for our nation?  Yet they did it and argue to this day against all evidence that it was good for America.  Good for who?

I remember when I went down the "fake moon landings" rabbit hole.  Lots of garbage to deal with down that chute, but I came to the same conclusion as you did.
No fucking way they could have made it there back then, with that technology, carrying all that equipment.  They even brought a car!

I am not sure whether this is a false flag.  I tend to be careful about that label.

Easier to see how a young depressed person could be given SSRIs and have a mental break.  That is well documented.

thats my take on it as well. The problem with a lot of people saying that this, and EVERYTHING is a false flag is that is damages the credibility you have when it comes to things that really were, or other lies like the moon landing. When you say everything is a lie, people just ignore you and roll their eyes. Even 5 years ago, I would have said the moon landing people were crazy, now I R one. But, again, a young, mentally unstable loser who is taking SSRIs just finally snaps and kills a bunch of people. Its not at all inconcievable. In fact, its fucking inevitable, and with so many out there taking them, its honestly kinda surprising that more of them don't fly off the handle.

Actually Pod's they left equipment on the moon, one such piece of equipment is a device that can be "pinged" from the earth, and it's used to precisely measure the distance between the earth and the moon, so, there is actualy a way to prove experimentally in an un-biased way that the equipment is in fact there.

Unless and until the "Moon Landing Debunkers" can explain away this verifiable information I am pretty sure we were there on the moon.

Also, since there is no atmosphere on the moon, the landing site should be "pristine." So, maybe in another 10 years or so, optic technology should be so good you will be able to "see" the landing site and the left-over equipment and maybe even footprints from a big telescope on earth.

I have actually looked into that mirror thing.  I originally thought the same thing.

Then when I saw the backscatter plot of the signal returns I concluded it was bunk.

If you have a plane (mirror) on a rotating object and while on another rotating object attempt to bounce a signal off of it for a return you are not going to be pleased with the outcome. Granted the laser is like a km wide by the time it hits the moon you have to remember that the diffraction/diffusion/absorption etc goes both ways. And you only have a light source on the outgoing.

They bounce a signal off the moon the same way they use a laser rangefinder here on earth.  You do not need a flat mirrored flagstick when using one on the golf course.

If you ever get some time, watch some videos about the amount of equipment that was on that orbiter.  Not the car or mirror or golf clubs, but the controls.  Remember, this was the 60's.  Big ass metal cans of all sorts of controls.

No way it would all fit.

Or the videos of them covering the windows to take a shot of earth.

They got shot up into LEO and zoomed around several times.

To each his own though.

hey, Ill be the first one to admit that I was wrong if we ever send people up there. Here's my other issue- they always show these fucking pictures, with a black dot on it, that we are told is the lunar lander. But, its just a fuckin dot. As you say, there is no atmosphere on the moon, and in 2015, with all the shit we have sent up there, we can't take a better picture than a fuckin' dot? We can read car license plates from space, but can't get an actual picture of all that stuff we allegedly left up there? shouldn't be that hard. You'd think the government would want to shut up all the crazies, so if there was an easy way to prove it, Id think they would.

As kids we were gathered into the school assembly hall to listen to the moon landing live on the radio.  To me the idea that the whole thing could be faked, my interest in science, the impossibility of faking it given the number of people involved and the scientific gains resulting, means that it's the last thing I would spend my time investigating now.  The tragedy for me is that I see intelligent people like you two having to dive into such "rabbit holes" that have been intentionally set up to decieve, confuse, and destabilise minds in the search for truth and reality.  Anyway, I'm grounded, I know the moon landings were sucessful and real and the other thing I believed as a kid, the JFK narrative, I now know to be false and that's the "real" rabbit hole.

"if we ever send people up there"  ... well the simple fact is that we did.

What device, a mirror?

Guess what, the moon surface is reflective. Just like all surfaces except ideal black bodies or ideal transparent surfaces are.

I saw the moon eclipse, the moon turned red by reflecting scattered light from our atmosphere. The whole moon was red, not the little NASA mirror. So what does it prove to detect the reflection from a laser?

This is the part that KILLS ME. To this day my mom tells me she saw a plane hit the Pentagon. WTF?!?!?! It's like they hear the story and then their minds make up the images and then they argue as if they really saw these images.

I'm not saying whether this shooting happened or not but to be treated as a nut case simply for wanting to see pictures of some of the deceased or pools or blood or even bullet holes is ridiculous. Because if you think that was all a big lie, you must then acknowldge that they are probably lying about a lot of other things too.

This is what happens when you have a government, and media that have been lying to people for 50+ years.

People ask me why I have to be so cynical about things, and I remind them of the following:

The federal reserve takeover in 1913

Roosevelt confiscating gold

The great depression

The military industrial complex

The JFK assassination

The overthrow of untold number of governments by the CIA

911

Flouride in the water

Poison in the food

GMOs

Chemtrails

Financial meltdowns

The welfare warfare state

Corporatism

The moon landings

The fact that elections aren't real

The police state

Cameras everywhere

The dumbing down of the education system

Raping of the planet by capitalism and "growth"

Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush Jr, Obama..... Clinton, Trump, Bush, Sanders etc.....

This "arab spring" and the overthrow of soveriegn governments

The overthrow of the Ukranian Goverment

Provocation of Russia and China

HAARP

Sandy Hook, Aurora, Boston and all the shenanigans that entails

The shredding of the constitution

Free markets taken over by algorithms

Predictive programming

Agenda 21

Fake Global Warming

Fake Climate Change

RFID chips

The "official" narrative on all of this is created on lies.  And it has been going on for so long that people who are genuinely aware or "awake", thier tendancy is to assume that it is bullshit until proven otherwise.

These lies have been going on for a long time before I was even born, and so my answer to people when they ask why I am so cynical is - With a government and media that has been lying for so long, how can you not be?

"Its kinda like the moon landing. I used to think that anyone who seriously thought that was fake was bat shit crazy."

I'm not up to speed on that one. If the landing was fake, does that mean all the missions were fake, including the Apollo 13 emergency and those three guys who died on the ground?

Lots of fake stuff in this world - fake tits, fake money, fake celebrity. I just don't see how something on such a massive scale could be carried off, especially back in the 60's when disinformation and mind control were not yet perfected.

Not picking a side here, it just seems that if you want to sow confusion and misdirect people, you could put out material casting doubt on... well... just about everything, really. Clearly some things are harder to fake than others - for instance, it would be easier to fake that the moon landing was fake than to actually fake it, no? In that case you'd be looking at a fake fake, as opposed to a genuine fake.

Hey, what about bouncing a laser off the moon? I saw that on Big Bang Theory. Was that fake as well?

I have the solution. First allow concealed carry. Next pass law that if you are part of active shooter scenario and you drop the shooter before he kills the first victim you get a million bucks, drop him after first victim you get 500k, after third 300k an d so on and so forth. The only way Homeland Security appears to be able to catch someone is in sting operations...where they find a looney, bait him, "prevent" him from carrying out THIER PLAN, and then claim victory against "domestic terror", thus justifying their worth.

re. Gun range shootings. The subject is mass shootings. Yes, one chest thumping sniper supposedly got shot. How many others got shot?

Re. The IRA. The IRA presented the PTB with a special problem when the GWOT got going. Terrerists were supposed to be portrayed as brown folk, sand niggers to some, yet here we had white, sometimes very white folk, attacking agents of the Crown, destroying the meme. The solution was to get the UK, by now one of the junior players in the global hierarchy, to finally acquiese and do what ever it took to put it to bed. Otherwise, angry, motivated white people would continue to find common cause with angry motivated brown people to threaten the PTB, and the rest is history. 9/11, GWOT, Iraq war one and two, etc. I'm sorry and sad for all the victims.

funny thing about gun shows, and gun ranges, Ive never been around a more polite group of people. Was at the "free for all" range in the ocala national forest recently. There is no one in charge, no one supervising anything, just a bunch of stangers showing up with guns and a lot of ammo. And Ive never seen a more polite and friendly group of people. politely yeilding the range when people are waiting, taking turns shooting clays, shaking hands, talking. Funny how that works.

How different would this have ended if:

1. Everyone in the classroom rushed the gunman, tackled him, and beat him to death.

2. ONE student in the classroom pulled out a weapon, returned fire, and killed the gunman.

Remember that train in France!

Gunman got off one shot before being tackled...how would that have ended if everyone had "dropped to the ground"...or took off running like the French Men on that train?

I know it's easy to "act" from the safety of my chair, but I just can't believe that the instant I saw a gun, that I wouldn't have grabbed my chair, threw it at him and rushed him...I always sat in the front in college, so I would have been just feet away.

When a chair is flying at you, it's hard to stand still and shoot.

There had to be windows of opportunity to bring this moron down long before shot 35 or whatever the total was...if someone had just said "Let's go!" and led the way.

Thinking of what a bunch of pussies so many of these college age "Men" are; the "let's go" guy would have probably had to go it alone...but still, better than being shot in the head cowering on the floor.

I've had military and first responder training, and have used those skills on several occasions. Typically, most people just freeze in an emergency not knowing what to do until someone capable directs them. The sad part is, most people would be effective to one degree or another if they just had some training, but where do you learn that?

IMO, all high schools should teach water safety, fire-rescue, emergency first aid, and self-defense (especially for women) as compulsory subjects. These are useful life skills, as opposed to sports that basically encourages false pride and bullying, while separating young people (especially boys) into winners and losers - a very bad precedent. Sports is competitive, while emergency response is cooperative. You are part of team with a mission - not to win a game, but to save lives in a tight situation.

If people came out of high school bearing a learned response to sudden emergencies, whatever their nature, they would be more inclined to act, rather than wait for help until it's too late.

I'd include firearms training and marksmanship at the grade 12 level as well. You have a right to bear arms, so the ability to do so safely should be taught as a matter of principle. All of this, emergency response, first aid, firearms safety and so forth fall under the category of Civic Responsibility. You may never use these skills, but you will know what's required should you find yourself in a situation where they are.

Self-reliance, self-confidence and personal responsibility are the three most important things you can teach a young person. Once they have that, the rest is easy.

****

Note: I learned water safety at the YMCA, basic survival from the scouts, firearms and self-defense in army cadets and first aid and fire fighting from the oil companies I worked for. Not a single one of those skills came from my high school, which was a rah rah football school full of self-important jocks whose only significant skill was tossing a little ball around. Except for the math, science and girls, a complete waste of time.

You are right, crusader, though not for the reasons you think. Only a truly fucked up country would hand out these dangerous drugs to its young people like fucking candy. And once the horrible side effects became widely known to everyone, only a truly fucked up country would fucking CONTINUE TO GIVE THEM TO MILLIONS OF PEOPLE.

It has been proven, time and again, that exercising regularly will get rid of depression in most people. It realises endorhpines in your brain that make you feel good,( plus its pretty fuckin awesome when you start seeing veins in your biceps, not gonna lie). Before giving out these pills, doctors whould reccomnd that people exercise 6 days a week, alternatate weight lifting and cardio, just 30 min a day, take sunday off. Come talk to me again in a month. And the only side effect of exercise is becoming healthier(and bein' fuckin' jacked...) and most americans are lazy fatasses and could probably use the exercise. If you think you are depressed now, just wait until your fatness and laziness gives you die-a-beetus...

So, why don't more doctors do this? Money. Tell someone to spend 25/month on a gym membership, they no longer need to come to you with their depression. Also, they will be les likely to get sick since physically fit people have stonger immune systems, and since they won't be fat anymore, they won't have several disorders which require a bunch more prescription meds

Before anyone gets a knee replacement, they should be required to lose the weight...and I'd bet a lot of them would no longer need the replacement.

Coccotti: Yes...
Clifford Worley: So you see, way back then, uh, Sicilians were like, uh, wops from Northern Italy. Ah, they all had blonde hair and blue eyes, but, uh, well, then the Moors moved in there, and uh, well, they changed the whole country. They did so much fuckin' with Sicilian women, huh? That they changed the whole bloodline forever. That's why blonde hair and blue eyes became black hair and dark skin. You know, it's absolutely amazing to me to think that to this day, hundreds of years later, that, uh, that Sicilians still carry that nigger gene. Now this...
[Coccotti busts out laughing]

Those mass shooters are lousy marketeers! They always go for weak parts of the society, that make sthem look cruel and evil.

If, however, one mass shooter would enter an IRS building once in a while, I am sure he would have started a revolution and would have millions behind him.

That would leave a real impact

Want to know where and when the weapons were obtained. Mommy knew sonny boy was mentally ill, but didn't know he had guns? Was obsessed with guns? Wore military clothes everyday?

Alas, wouldn't matter....nothing can be done to force treatment or detention of adults, anymore. Have to wait until they kill.

No idea why crazy people have no respect for the law.  Legislators should write new laws that punish crazy people for breaking the law.

Actually in Oregon it is illegal to ban guns on the grounds of public universities.  Concealed carry permit holders are legally allowed to concealed carry on public campuses.  Care to try again?

Because gun free zones are a magnet for various shooters

Pretty obvious Amwerica is one sick society, although guns are an after thought of the sickness. This is what happens when people are forced to live in illusions and lies, they break ! It is no coincidence that the incidence of these happenings have increased under BHO and crew, so why does nobody speak of this fact ?

But this WAS NOT a gun free zone, the media MADE THAT UP and as a sheeple you blindly believed it.

There WERE people there with concealed weapons.

Frankly, I don't give a sh*t what is likely to happen or not in Europe.  I'm pretty sick of the typical reaction of gun violence in the US:  "Well, in Europe..."  And I don't care what wikipedia says about murder rates in gun-toting countries vs. non-gun-toting coutnries.  Europe has fewer mass killings?  Good job by them.  They're also not as free as the US.  They actively restrict freedoms because a bunch of eurocrats know what's best for everyone.  I don't own a gun, but if you take away my right to, I have to wonder what's next.  The fact of the matter is that not one society with a 250-year history of freedom is more free today than it was 250 years ago.  We lose freedom with time.  So the US gets an occasional mass gun killing and the euros get their Utopia.  That's fine as long as US citizens understand that certain responsibilities and consequences come with a freer society.  Many consequences are ugly and many have causes just a tad more complex than "availability of guns."  But I for one prefer that freer society, unfortunate consequences and all.  But fear not Europe!  Most Americans want to be you, so it's only a matter of time before we join you in a morass of mediocrity and moral relativism.
