Presenting A First-Hand Look Inside Russia's Forward Operating Base In Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

When the first reports began to trickle in regarding a possible Russian military buildup at Bashar al-Assad’s seaside stronghold at Latakia, the scramble to “prove” that forces from Moscow had indeed arrived in Syria led directly to a string of conflicting reports and grainy satellite images purporting to detail the scope of Russia’s involvement.

As the weeks went by, and as rumors of a Russian presence were confirmed by The Kremlin, the world became even more fascinated by the idea that Moscow has officially launched an air war in a foreign country. Indeed, Russia’s overt involvement on behalf of the Assad regime marks a change of strategy for Putin, who has been careful to dispel accusations that his forces are directly involved in the fighting in eastern Ukraine.

Now that Russia has officially commenced combat operations, Moscow is wasting no time showing off its new staging ground. For those curious to know what a Russian forward operating base in a Middle Eastern warzone looks like, we present the following clip from RT:

Looking at the munitions, pylons, planes ect it seems Russia has learned much from NATO since '91. Looking at NATO policy I conclude NATO has forgotten much since '91.

VERY interesting comments in that Web link above (in French) about the confrontation between 4 Israeli F-15's and six Russian Sukhoi jets on 2 October.  The Israeli jets approached Latakia from the sea, but turned and avoided the Russian base, when confronted by the Russian jets (which were scrambled).  But to be honest, what on earth did the Israelis think was going to happen - they were just going to overfly a Russian air base?????

Can we say .... ???????????????????????????????????????????????

Anyway, feathers were ruffled - but no blood was spilled.  But Russia now owns part of the Syrian skies.  And this will change how Israel operates its future air missions.

More interestingly it says this incident indicates that the russian army is now the one enforcing Syria's airpsace protection ("cet incident indique que la protection de l’espace aérien syrien est désormais sous la protection de l’arme aérienne russe"). Not sure about that website though, and doesn't cite any source (just says the story is its own exclusivity). Waiting for a corroborating report from somewhere else (it's linked on Infowars that's how it's getting read).

Mark my words, the IDF is going to keep pushing and pushing until they force Russia to react negatively by shooting down one of their F-15's or something like that.  The Jews thrive on conflict and would like nothing more than to drag the USA into a real shooting war in that area . . . .

Bulldozing Palestinian grandmothers who refuse to leave their homes, sniping pregnant Palestinian chicks ("two for the price of one"), dancing at the destruction of American scyscrapers, blinding American art students, and strafing American life rafts--that's Nuttinyahoo style.

Going toe-to-toe with the Rooskies? Not those fucking IDF cowards.

As Netanyahoo just met Putin in Moscow, this could have been a dumb show to prove to General Negro and the lesser Negroes in the Pentagon, they should not depend on the Israelis to attack the Russian installation at Latakia from the rear.

Good satrapie that Israel is, it probed the Russian defenses from the sea and found them too potent to attack.

The IDF, therefore, will leave the Russians alone and spend the last few days of sukkot getting in some live target practice on teenaged rock throwers.

Sure ! Because 2 NF characters (Hillary & Carly) are asking for it... Add the half-senile McCain to the mixture and there you have a perfectly good reason to get into a hot war with the Russians.

There is an easy solution.  Putin draws a line in the sand out in he desert away from the Lush part of Syria and tell EVERYONE, anyone on the east side of the line is a terrorist and will be bombed.  Those who want to make a peaceful state can come over the line and be properly vetted.

End of story.

it's pretty fucked up that this is where we are. I think you can assign blame all around but one has to be pretty biased or dishonest to not see US policy as mostly 'active' and Russian - 'reactive' these past 20 years.

And the hundreds of thousands of dead brown people don't seem to matter much, although they would if Russia had been responsible, right?

Taking a step back - why isnt the Pope, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Jewish and Muslim leaders etc. - why aren't the major religions demanding peace and stepping back from the brink.

What good is religion if all it generates is surety in the absence of evidence and can't even summon the moral-energy {if you will} to organize marches, conferences, etc?

Please don't read and dismiss - seriously, we could risk nuclear war - **over Syria**?

Why?

And where are all the peaceniks who would, no doubt, be marching in the streets if Obama were a white Republican?

That is a very thoughtful question JD.  A very complicated question but you have reached that point where you are questioning everything around you.  I have always said that once you see something that you cannot unsee what you saw.  I have my thoughts because I have been following this shitshow for a decade before ZH ever existed.  What I think might not always be correct and I am man enough to say that.  Anyone who always thinks they are right is an asshole and what we have are too many people who think they are always right.  I have met enough "political" leaders to know their ilk and I didn't want to be like that.  I am not like that but I do have leadership abiliities even though I do not want them.  I wish I was an idiot.

I have tried every angle that I can think of to try to make people see what we see but I might as well talk to a wall.  I see what is planned for all of us and I hope I am wrong but it is not good.  We have little choice left but to turn and fight.  ZH has the best people posting here of any website that I have seen.  Go read the comments at HuffPo if you need levity.  We have a problem though here and it is that we are libertarians by nature.  We don't even trust each other but the truth is that we are going to have to some degree one day soon.

I have spoken with several ZHers and it is a great experience to talk with them.  They know and you know this fucking scam of the idea of an indebted nation state is coming unraveled.  We see it and we know it.  Everywhere you look you see it in people's mannerisms and behaviors and how they treat one another.  This has been in my head for a couple of years now but at some point we are going to have to let down a our guard a bit, trust for a day at least, and have a meeting of the minds as to what we can do at this point.

By a meeting, I mean no foolish bullshit like we are going to go shoot'em up and take names.  That will only make things worse.  I mean an actual meeting like a caucus with an agenda we agree upon before meeting and using Robert's Rules of order to conduct it.  If we are going to be the United States we need a citizen's caucus and do we have the right to peacable assemble.  Some people worry about people finding out that they are liberatarian in nature or being compromised by CIA or whatever agency.  It would not be a conspiracy and every organization already is compromised any.  Here is the key point on that:  they might join us.

There can only be one outcome to this digital/fake money game and I do not need to lecture on what that is here.  The longer we do nothing the more we will get ripped off.  It is one thing to have a romantic notion that "Oh, Yeah, we can fix it."  I know better after two Ron Paul campaigns.  I am not saying that is the right way to go but things are not getting any better anywhere in the world.  We can't be afraid or our own shadows.  We have to deal with this situation soon.  I don't think anyone can say that it is getting better for anyone except the bankers.

It seems to me that the Free Syrian Army has two options.

They can decamp and make a dash for the coalition bases wherever the coalition planes are hangared....

or the US and the FSA's other sponsors can supply these rag tag terrorists-in-training with surface to air missiles, but I think the US had a bad experience with that.

I wonder what Bush, the Decider, would advise the Negro to do?

No one seems to have noticed that Germany is flipping to the Russian side as fast as they can:

http://news.yahoo.com/merkel-says-only-end-syrian-war-russias-help-18454...

"German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday that it would be possible to end to the civil war in Syria only with the help of Russia, which this week launched airstrikes in the war-torn country."   It's a pretty remarkable statement from one of the key NATO "allies" of the Federal Government.

RT is CIA btw. They only rarely slip in something to do with their true aim. Plus IMO when they 'moderate' their site:

Consider Putin's UN speech including the 'Minsk' deal and:

'Poroshenko says there is no alternative to complete fulfillment of the Minsk agreement'.

http://tass.ru/en/world/795019

Poroshenko says Minsk 'pseudo peace', vows to fight until the last drop of blood:

http://rt.com/news/258685-poroshenko-minsk-pseudo-peace/

RT has style of BBC. Clearly fascist.

LOL.

You may not know it but the British TV and comms "independent" regulator OFCOM (in reality, an obedient arm of UK government) made a complaint to RT a while back about claimed biased news reporting of a number of events.

Believe me, that would not have happened if RT is CIA as you claim.
