The Largest US Foreign Policy Blunder Since Vietnam Is Complete: Iran Readies Massive Syrian Ground Invasion

Tyler Durden's picture

On Thursday, in “Mid-East Coup: As Russia Pounds Militant Targets, Iran Readies Ground Invasions While Saudis Panic”, we attempted to cut through all of the Western and Russian media propaganda on the way to describing what Moscow’s involvement in Syria actually portends for the global balance of power. Here are a few excerpts that summarize what’s taking shape in the Middle East:

Putin looks to have viewed this as the ultimate geopolitical win-win. That is, Russia gets to i) expand its influence in the Middle East in defiance of Washington and its allies, a move that also helps to protect Russian energy interests and preserves the Mediterranean port at Tartus, and ii) support its allies in Tehran and Damascus thus preserving the counterbalance to the US-Saudi-Qatar alliance.

Meanwhile, Iran gets to enjoy the support of the Russian military juggernaut on the way to protecting the delicate regional nexus that is the source of Tehran’s Mid-East influence. It is absolutely critical for Iran to keep Assad in power, as the loss of Syria to the West would effectively cut the supply line between Iran and Hezbollah.

It would be difficult to overstate the significance of what appears to be going on here. This is nothing short of a Middle Eastern coup, as Iran looks to displace Saudi Arabia as the regional power broker and as Russia looks to supplant the US as the superpower puppet master.

In short, the Pentagon’s contention that Russia and Iran have formed a Mid-East “nexus” isn’t akin to the Bush administration’s hollow, largely bogus attempt to demonize America’s foreign policy critics in the eyes of the public by identifying an “axis of evil.” Rather, the Pentagon’s assessment was an attempt to come to grips with a very real effort on the part of Moscow and Tehran to tip the scales in the Mid-East away from Riyadh and Washington.

Solidifying the Assad regime in Syria serves to shore up Hezbollah and presents Tehran with an opportunity to assert itself in the name of combatting terror. The latter point there is critical. The West has long contended that Iran is the world’s foremost state sponsor of terror, and the Pentagon has variously accused the Quds Force of orchestrating attacks on US soldiers in Iraq after cooperation between Washington and Tehran broke down in the wake of Bush’s “axis of evil” comment.

Indeed, Iran was accused of masterminding a plot to kill the Saudi ambassador at a Washington DC restaurant in 2011.

Now, the tables have turned. It is the US, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar who stand accused of sponsoring Sunni extremists and it is Iran, and specifically the Revolutionary Guard, that gets to play hero.

Of course this would be largely impossible without Moscow’s stamp of superpower approval. The optics around the P5+1 nuclear deal were making it difficult for Tehran to be too public in its efforts to bolster Assad. That doesn’t mean Tehran’s support for the regime in Syria hasn’t been well documented for years, it simply means that Iran needed to observe some semblance of caution, lest its role in Syria should end up torpedoing the nuclear negotiations. Now that Moscow is officially involved, that caution is no longer obligatory and Iran is now moving to support Russian airstrikes with an outright ground incursion (just as we’ve been saying for weeks). Here’s WSJ:

Iran is expanding its already sizable role in Syria’s multisided war in the wake of Russia’s airstrikes, despite the risk of antagonizing the U.S. and its Persian Gulf allies who want to push aside President Bashar al-Assad.

Politicians in the region close to Tehran as well as analysts who have been closely following its role in Syria say a decision has been made, in close coordination with the Russians and the Assad regime, to increase the number of fighters on the ground through Iran’s network of local and foreign proxies.

The support also could involve more Iranian commanders, military advisers and expert fighters usually assigned to these units, these people said.

Wiam Wahhab, a former Lebanese minister allied to Iran and Mr. Assad, stressed that Iran wouldn’t be dispatching troops in the conventional sense. Instead, they were likely to be officers and advisers from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, he said.

“I know there is a major battle upon us and everything needed for this battle will be made available,” said Mr. Wahhab, who has some members from his own political party fighting in Syria alongside the regime. “There is a plan to carry out offensive operations in more than one spot.”

Experts believe Iran has some 7,000 IRGC members and Iranian paramilitary volunteers operating in Syria already.

Separate from the regular army, the IRGC was founded in the aftermath of the 1979 revolution as an ideological “people’s army” reporting directly to the supreme leader, Iran’s top decision maker.

The more than 100,000-strong force controls a vast military, economic and security power structure in Iran and is in charge of proxies across the region. Its paramilitary organization, the Basij, was the lead force in the crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators in 2009.

Since late 2012 Iran has played a lead role in organizing, training and funding local pro-regime militias in Syria, many of them members of Mr. Assad’s Alawite minority, a branch of Shiite Islam. Experts believe they number between 150,000 and 190,000—possibly more than what remains of Syria’s conventional army.

What’s more, some experts estimate 20,000 Shiite foreign fighters are on the ground, backed by both Shiite Iran and its main proxy in the region, the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah.

About 5,000 of them are new arrivals from Iraq in July and August alone, said Phillip Smyth, a researcher at the University of Maryland. He said this figure was compiled through his own contacts with some of these fighters, flight data between Baghdad and Damascus as well as social media postings. “It looks like it was timed out to coincide with the Russian move,” Mr. Smyth said.

Yes, it certainly does "look like" that, and it wasn't hard to see this coming. Here's another excerpt from our recent analysis:

Back in June, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Qasem Soleimaini, visited a town north of Latakia on the frontlines of Syria’s protracted civil war. Following that visit, he promised that Tehran and Damascus were set to unveil a new strategy that would “surprise the world.”

Just a little over a month later, Soleimani - in violation of a UN travel ban - visited Russia and held meetings with The Kremlin.

Make no mistake, this is shaping up to be the most spectacular US foreign policy debacle since Vietnam - and we don't think that's an exaggeration.

The US, in conjunction with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, attempted to train and support Sunni extremists to overthrow the Assad regime. Some of those Sunni extremists ended up going crazy and declaring a Medeival caliphate putting the Pentagon and Langley in the hilarious position of being forced to classify al-Qaeda as "moderate." The situation spun out of control leading to hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths and when Washington finally decided to try and find real "moderates" to help contain the Frankenstein monster the CIA had created in ISIS (there were of course numerous other CIA efforts to arm and train anti-Assad fighters, see below for the fate of the most "successful" of those groups), the effort ended up being a complete embarrassment that culminated with the admission that only "four or five" remained and just days after that admission, those "four or five" were car jacked by al-Qaeda in what was perhaps the most under-reported piece of foreign policy comedy in history.

Meanwhile, Iran sensed an epic opportunity to capitalize on Washington's incompetence. Tehran then sent its most powerful general to Russia where a pitch was made to upend the Mid-East balance of power. The Kremlin loved the idea because after all, Moscow is stinging from Western economic sanctions and Vladimir Putin is keen on showing the West that, in the wake of the controversy surrounding the annexation of Crimea and the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Russia isn't set to back down. Thanks to the fact that the US chose extremists as its weapon of choice in Syria, Russia gets to frame its involvement as a "war on terror" and thanks to Russia's involvement, Iran gets to safely broadcast its military support for Assad just weeks after the nuclear deal was struck. Now, Russian airstrikes have debilitated the only group of CIA-backed fighters that had actually proven to be somewhat effective and Iran and Hezbollah are preparing a massive ground invasion under cover of Russian air support. Worse still, the entire on-the-ground effort is being coordinated by the Iranian general who is public enemy number one in Western intelligence circles and he's effectively operating at the behest of Putin, the man that Western media paints as the most dangerous person on the planet.

As incompetent as the US has proven to be throughout the entire debacle, it's still difficult to imagine that Washington, Riyadh, London, Doha, and Jerusalem are going to take this laying down and on that note, we close with our assessment from Thursday:

If Russia ends up bolstering Iran's position in Syria (by expanding Hezbollah's influence and capabilities) and if the Russian air force effectively takes control of Iraq thus allowing Iran to exert a greater influence over the government in Baghdad, the fragile balance of power that has existed in the region will be turned on its head and in the event this plays out, one should not expect Washington, Riyadh, Jerusalem, and London to simply go gentle into that good night.

Indeed! The Bush entry into Iraq, costing Americans over 1 trillion dollars and resulted in ISIS owning half the place and Iran the other half, really was the epic blunder of all American history! EPIC in scope, epic in it's deep public support, brought on by compliant media who now operate as an arm of Neocon Washington establishment.

Bush should be hung for the Iraq crime but it was Hillary Clinton and Barak Obirdbrain who created ISIS.

Maybe your attempting to cover for Hillary's and Obirdbrain's war crimes?

And the convenient ommision of the fact that the Democrats FULLY supported regime change BEFORE 911. They voted for the war...something that Obama has never troubled himself with. Yes the media was compliant WITH THE LIBERALS. Not neocons. After Bush invaded Iraq, the media and the liberals attacked him full on, on the first day.Code pink on every news cast. Protests at the Bush ranch. Ted Kennedy screaming that Bush went to war for oil...after most democrats including Kennedy voted for it...after Clinton said regime change was of utmost importance.

Iraq was stable when Bush left office. It was Obama that pulled everything out, with virtually every military and defense specialist saying it would lead to exactly what we have today.

There is no doubt the the Iraq war, given how it played out, was obviously a mistake of epic proportions, but lets please put blame where it belongs....all of it.

@The Replacement.  I agree with you 100%.  And as you watch Obama speak now, you can see the longing in his face that to me says "This is not what I fucking want".  Just like Bush in his final months as President..he wants OUT.  This has nothing to do with them.  You don't just become President because you are a dork, loser, or an idiot.  Bush as well as Obama are very smart men, but they must continue a charade.  You can see it in their eyes...you can hear it in their voice when they talk in these final speeches as president. It all says to me "THIS IS NOT ME PULLING THE STRINGS and I WANT TO BE DONE".  I have listened to George W Bush talk in some interviews lately.  He is smarter than hell.  His conjecture, and being on point blew me away recently.  This was a far reach from when he would stand in front of a podium as President and blather idiotic jokes looking like a fool.  Something here is amiss, and you my friend are right on.  DO NOT BE DISTRACTED....there is a big game going on and we  only get a GLIMPSE of a single puzzle piece once in awhile...but only if you are looking for it.  In some events...you get to see several puzzle pieces by mistake...like 9/11.  Again...most dumbass fellow Americans don't even know a game is going on...even when the puzzle pieces fall in their lap.  I really do feel that our leaders really learned from World War 2.  The propoganda machine in WW2 was in full tilt...and they learned how to use it well.  Some of these posters are incredible...

.

So.....as we know.  They always need a boogie man.  They always need a war or two going...on and on.  As I type this...I fear that we have gone too far, and to reverse where we are at...may be too late.  Too many people don't care, or don't get it.  Sure glad ZH is here to vent to the choir.

excellent points all, takeaction.  especially "In some events...you get to see several puzzle pieces by mistake...like 9/11."  although seemingly successful, it in fact is, like syria, a blunder. it can be proven and shown to be what we suspect it of being, the work of the mossad, cia, cheney, rumsfeld, silverstein, that rabbi/head bookkeeper at the pentagon, bushes, etc.

the revealed puzzle pieces are many: the official report on 9-11 doesn't even mention building seven; the technical nist report on wtc doesn't test for the presence of explosives; the fbi almost immediately finds hijacker passports in or near the wtc wreckage; the fbi releases names and photos of the hijackers responsible like, what, the next day?; over the next few months perhaps half a dozen of the purported hijackers are found alive in other countries; passengers make cell phone calls at altitude, an impossibility; the deep remains of the wtc are extremely hot for months; a plane couldn't fit through the hole in the pentagon; no plane engines are found at the pentagon or in pennsylvania (or the wtc but then they don't find a toilet seat or a door knob there either, some "collapse", more like obliteration); no material from black boxes is ever released; israelis are arrested in new jersey filming the smoking towers and say on isreali tv when they are returned (?!!) that they went to film the incident (prescient setup); bush nor the secret service leaves that school house for half an hour even though the nation is, ostensibly, under attack.

they spent more money investigating monica lewinsky for fuck's sake.

it wouldn't take sherlock holmes.  it might not even take woodward and bernstein (though i suspect they got more help from deep throat, etc. than they may acknowledge).  all these smoking guns and, as yet, only deafening silence and contemptuous mockery from major newspapers, magazines and television networks.  never once an attempt at investigative journalism.  some truth-tellers to power indeed.  to call them presstitutes defames whores.

takeaction indeed.  tell others. this war will be won mind by mind.  please each do your part.

thanks

Jeff...have tried for years to wake people up.  My family, friends and employees are now awake, but so many times as all of us know...it is hopeless to even make the attempt of waking people up.  And it is SO HARD not to be cynical now.  I doubt everything in regards to our government.  I believe nothing.  I think the FSA is part of the plan.  I work hard and lose over 40% to taxes.  It is enough to beat a hard working person down.  I am one of those that is caught in the middle.  I don't make millions and millions....I make great money as considered by most, but then when you take the taxes out...the great money is knocked down to good.  Why do we punish people like myself that really work hard.  I pay and Pay and Pay...  You really get Jaded...and almost give up.  I would love to sit down with Trump for 45 minutes and ask him some amazing questions....especially if he wins the Presidency.  From what you know and what I know....If they slip and he gets in to the White House.....I pray he fucks things up.  I really think he will.  If Hillary wins...which again, I see it in her eyes....she is still talking as though she is "The chosen one".  If she gets in office...or Biden.  Then the game is up.  The shit is soooo rigged.  I am done.  I will sell my big house, sell my business, I am done.  Trump has given me some real hope....  I pray it is not in jest.  Jeff...thanks for a great comment...it is a wonderful addition to mine.  Also...if you people are reading this...I have found a NEW way to wake people up.  All you do is guide them here to ZH.  Don't mention any conspiracy stuff...don't scare a sheep...I just say "Do you go to the "TRUE NEWS SITE".  And they ask...which one?  I say "Go Check out ZH< and read the comments...."  I have converted many Dems by doing that...because they read all of our posts...and they want to learn about the lake trips we take with our PM's.  THey want to learn all of our lingo.  PM, TPTB, FSA, ZIRP, NIRP, BTFD, etc...all of the shit we talk about raises interest.  Rather than talking till your blue in the face and scaring people...Guiude them here...they read and read and read.   And they wake up on this site.  I have learned a lot here.   Each person that posts a comment..the sarcasm, the funny ones, it is what makes this site great.  And it looks like the Freedon of Speech is still allowed here.  Thanks ZH...and ZH'ers for making it fun...while learning.

@Takeaction2:  We are long past the point of no return.  You sound like I sounded 5 years ago.  I busted my ass working a stressful job making what most would consider good money only to have nearly half stolen by the gov't.  After Obama won a second term I knew there was no hope and made plans to exit the work force.  Two years ago I quit my job -the only taxes I now pay are property and sales taxes.  I also sold the big house in the burbs to some schmuck who financed it w/ 105% VA loan and I paid cash for a small self-suficient place in the country fr removed from the FSA.

I am not old so I must make what I have last a long time so I live a very simple life -no eating out, no cable TV, no new cars, split my own firewood (you get the idea).  I no longer answer to some annoying boss and don't get so pissed when I see the gov't wasting tax-payer money since I really no longer pay taxes.  Just accept the fact this ship is going down and sell the big house and watch the decline form a distance and quit funding the sytem which is hell-bent on destroying the very people who fund it.

In the end (which is just over the horizon), what good will those extra 'dollars' do you?  Just try to enjoy what remains of the 'good old days.'  That is what these days will be known as in due time.

Effectively "going Galt Gulch" is appealing to more and more. The technological advancements that are eliminating jobs are also making more possible to go off grid, to create independence that would have been harder to do in years past. Most of the crap that most people spend their money on are toys, baubles of distraction for the shitty lives. If a person can give that up, they can find something closer to real happiness (contentment) without the pressure that dependency creates...true freedom for a change.

As long as we keep banging at government, expecting it somehow to afford us real freedoms when its very existence relies on our dependence, we will never find freedom OR contentment.

It is amazing how little money it really takes to live if you have your health.  I did IT work for 20+ years, but was always a Ludite at heart and always lived well beneath my means.  I laugh at the people preaning around in their fancy cars b/c come monday morning I don't have to get up to pay for such ostentation.  Then again, they probably laugh at me in my Walter White mobile.

When things get ugly the FSA will come after those they view as being rich.  You will not want to be driving that new Escallade or living in the fancy neighborhood.  Humans can be a resentful bunch if they feel they have been screwed over.  Low-key will be a good thing.

The letter left on the Oval Office desk for the next President to read says something like:

You probably know who we are. You were only elected because we wanted you to be here. We have our goals and you will see to them, or the next President will be sworn in shortly. We exist above all laws of men, we own everything and can buy anyone.

For your service you will be protected. For your service you will be rewarded handsomely. We will prolong your life as you have witnessed. Our underlings seem to live longer, healthier lives than the average person. Even besting the "plague" of the modern age, which we created.

We are asking for eight years of your life, four if we choose, much less if we choose as well. For this small sacrifice you will never have to worry about your family. No matter what they do, they will exist without fear of the law or going without. They will enjoy our protection.

We thank you for your service. We will be in touch shortly. Now get to work Mr. President.

Sincerely,

Many of us said the same thing from the very beginning, before he even got into government office.

It started with only a cursory review of his past record, from Bill Ayers to sucking like a vampire off the Annenburg Foundation trying to help inner city youts (which he had a hand in draining of every last nickel out of) to his "xenophobic-bitter clinger" moment of self-segregating himself from half the US population.

It's absolutely on purpose, not incompetence at all.

Edit:  Yes, I still think Oblama is a puppet.  Just use his name as a placeholder for TPTB above."

It's not a mistake, blunder, stupidity or incompetence yet 95 percent of average people of average intelligence with average education will believe one of those are the explanation for the things govenments and politicians do.

"If it happens in government, especially the US government, it was planned that way".

It is unlikely that more than 2 percent of the US population or that of any western nation would believe that explanation yet that is the stark reality.  If it appears that Obama is running this country into the ground it is being done with a will and purpose, and of course, that decision was made way above his pay grade.

Soldiers of China is very dissatisfied with this decision. But soon they will be asked to make a choice between dismissal and military expedition to Syria.
Many of them voluntarily choose a trip to Syria.

The Roman Empire was around for a thousand years. Which legions are the ones we are discussing? I think the monetary debasement program and the large number of foreigners in the legion did them in. Shit happens over an extended time period and what was once important becomes a causality of a short human attention span. You could say the same for our armed forces. Hate to say it but females literally fucked the armed forces up. Yay can't land the, in this war zone but each coed fighting force accommodates them

Heads up!

The only reason Russia can do what it is doing in Syria is because China is backing the removal of those CIA (ISIS) terrorists.  America has painted itself into a corner for now as we all have found out that the CIA is not the good guy any more.

In that region the US has very long supply lines  =  (disadvantage)    In that region Russia & China have shorter supply lines = (Home advantage)

China wants the resources of that region but wants to trade rather than war to get it (next generation permement magnets).

Russia wants its borders protected and its buddies secure and will if need be do whatever it takes to secure its position and the USA knows this fact.

My advice would be for the US to get a UN peace thing going ASAP in that region and get the sides talking.

Sat, 10/03/2015 - 10:22 | 6624627 Dubaibanker
Dubaibanker's picture

I have said this for a couple of months now that the whole world will be on one side and only America will remain on the other side, alone.

Also, I have said that Russia together with many regional allies will bring an end to ISIS and cleanse Syria of its problems and bring peace in Syria and other countries like Iraq where ever they can. This will take a few months but the plans are working very well and every single country is being respected, consulted and providing a solution (unlike when America operates and makes decisions unilaterally).

Putin has played a masterstroke by attacking ISIS inside Syria and is using the army of Iran, intelligence and resources of Iraq, Syria etc. All these are neighbours to each other and thus have a vital national security interest in all Middle East operations and the unrest for the sake of their own survival and/or peace.

I have also believed that China is a deep supporter of all these people, but just from the behind, which is what I have asserted for a long time since their military power and economic might keeps rising.

Now facts are coming out and some are here for you to assimilate.

Meanwhile, Middle East will never be the same again. The whole region except for UAE, Oman etc is on fire! This fire will engulf every country, every businessman, every community like a cancer. Once it starts, countries shall be divided that has not happened since WW2 like Syria, Iraq, Pakistan etc. Many others will come together and the regional balance will tilt in favour of the pragmatic players like Iran, Iraq, Syria who will work ever so closely in the years ahead.

Turkey is already suffering the consequences of being left out and having been aligned to EU and US. In fact due to Turkey's new stronger alignment with America, Russia had to rush the action into Syria last week instead of waiting any longer. You will hear much more unrest and arrests in Turkey in the months ahead as their situation worsens and business gets worse.

Turkey had recently agreed with the US to give a complete airbase to America. This would have saved hours of flights from Bahrain etc to attack inside Syria. This created the urgency to enter Syria before Turkey was able to move with US. The only delay for Turkey and US was Turkish elections of Nov 1 which became Russia's deadline.

Prefabricated ‘Patriot Town’ set up for foreign soldiers at Turkey’s ?ncirlik Air Base

http://national.bgnnews.com/prefabricated-patriot-town-set-up-for-foreign-soldiers-at-turkeys-incirlik-ai-haberi/9922

There will a lot of blood shed due to the insurgency, due to American withdrawal, due to the cleansing efforts and realignment of nations with each other in the tiny but historically volatile Middle East region. The Hajj deaths, the Yemen attacks are also not helping anybody and making the problem worse.

This blood shed will cause businesses, logistics, travel, IT, banking, servicing from safe cities like Dubai come to a grinding halt. For example, trade with and from Yemen has come to a halt in the last 6 months. Same in Syria for last 4 years or with Iran in the last 3-4 years. This will have a dramatic impact everywhere but benefit only Iran and a few others due to their sheer size and extra strong support by Russia and China.

The old guard like Dubai will be decimated and may not have much role in the peaceful future due to their small size as GCC continues to weaken, partly due to solid decline in oil revenues, lack of American intervention, major unrest in friendly countries, and reduction in their power status structure of Middle East which was mostly due to US support etc.

Putin's masterstroke has brought America to its knees.

Look at America's 2 choices:

Either America has to support Syria/Assad/Iraq/Russia/China/Iran etc

Or, America has to support ISIS on the opposite side.

Whichever side, America chooses, America will lose.

Such is the power of nations coming together to obliterate ISIS which is impacting everyone's national security and is a creation of America itself.

This is one of the more milder confirmations that ISIS was created by America penned by an American writer!

Appreciate it.

However, if the Americans who can not understand the evidence  that is presented to them then I cannot provide them with new brain cells!

Unfortunately, it is the Govt of the US that brought it upon themselves.

I have been saying this for years, I have no idea why American Govt is working toward it's own demise domestically through pathetic economic policies plus lack of gun control and internationally due to exceptionalism, unilateralness, desires to execute regime changes and arrogance plus bombing of billions of poor people across Asia, Middle East, Latin America, Russia and Africa!

Every action of America in these countries above will bring an equal and opposite reaction, whether today or in the future and that action will be a collaboration of all the countries against US interests everywhere thus choking American business and military interests. In addition, the bombing will create pure unadulterated terror for everyone and has to hit back at the US one day or another.

For example, today, US citizens cannot freely roam around in about 20-30 countries worldwide. The US citizens and their Govt must ask the question to themselves: Why? And they shall receive the answer themselves that they must stop interefering in other countrys' affairs as much they would not tolerate other country's interfering in the internal affairs of the US.

Can the US Govt or it's citizens tolerate that a bunch of Govts outside, ask for a regime change in the US?

One explanation is that Washington and its allies are deliberately provoking WW III because it believes it can win at this time, before Russia and China become too powerful. This is consistent with what a Wolfowitz era neo-con said 10 years ago in an interview with the BBC in London.

I beg to differ, smacker.

Americans do not control shit any more.

They are bankrupt, have created unwarranted enemies the world over, have played with the price of oil, Libor, gold, currencies, inflation, dollar, FX, fined people with impunity, done money laundering, run drugs, create terror, placed sanctions on Iran, Russia, N Korea, Venezuela, Cuba for no reason, went to war with Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya etc for no reason with massive losses (both economic and political), bring planes of Presidents down (Colombia), prosecute people like Snowden and various others, have the highest prison population on the planet, bring out SWAT due to Facebook posts, have the weakest STEM scores, get little girls beaten up by cops, entice immigrants for picking cherries and strawberries as well as man their Mcdonald's and IT servers etc.

Is America a country at all or is it at war with itself?

These old diehards like Kissinger who think they control the world live in a cold war world which is long over.

Every nation with a brain is fighting for their own and every day when they wake up (like that African gazelle), they know that if they don't do something they will get eaten. So they have started running for themselves and clearly have seen how dangerous (like a snake) it is is to keep friends with America! Just ask Pakistan or Libya or even Iran and on most days nowadays ask Israel!

Because America can bomb you, can spy on you, can kill you economically, won't let you use your resources etc.

So why have a friend or even an enemy like that?

Time has come to IGNORE America and that alone will kill that nation. Do no business with America. Don't invite him to your parties or even a funeral! Hide everything from him.

The worst thing anyone can do to a school bully is to ignore him in order to hit him where it hurts the most, in his ego!

If you were here inside the US you would likely feel different about gun control.  Your understanding of history there is very weak and we should simple agree to disagree.  Regarding many of your other points, I happen to agree with you.

The US has curiously cornered itself.  Almost so perfectly that it reeks of subversion.  Yeah, I know the saying "never attribute to malice what first can be attributed to the stupidity"... but, damn.  This is studity squared.  Or Pure Neocon desperation.  Heck O's speech yesterday was pure insanity.  The whole premise was that we (US) have some sort inescapable mandate to protect the poor Syrians from evil Assad.  There is no FUCKING way that even half American's today buy that bullshit.  And THAT is what makes it amazing.  It was a big bold faced lie - right there in everyone's face.  And this sort of thing speaks volumes about how the US is doomed.  Ortiv is likely right that the US will simply break up into different regions... much like the former Soviet Union.

Oh, and did you catch the last sentence O said about gun control not being some plan of his to take over?  Really?  If those words were even said, then it is clearly high enough up in the public conscience to warrant his attention... and therein should lie concern as well considering that most everything else he has said is an outright lie.

My only opinion on gun control is that just like the rest of the 249 countries out of 250 it should be abolished for it's own self in America.

We do not live in 1776. Things have changed a lot since then.

People can have a lot of views on it. I don't.

I care only about the dead bodies piling up mostly of children across America.

Whoever wishes to defend themselves must ask themselves, what are the defending themselves from? How many people have survived defending from thieves or robbers or murderers?

I am not an expert nor do I have any clues on US gun history.

Do you know what statistics in the US don't get collected?  The number of incidents where a gun is legitimately used in self defense, but nobody gets shot and the assaliants just walk away.  It is common for those to not get reported.  I know this because I have not reported them twice, and I know some people in the same boat.  Reporting them throws you into the US legal system.  It's not worth the risk in many peoples' minds, mine included.  We have a cultural problem in the US that will still be here with or without guns.  You can give yours up in your country all you want, but don't try to take away mine.

FYI the deadliest school massacre in US history was not committed with a firearm.

You really don't get government tyranny, or self preservation do you? You are a BOOT-LICKER. Typical libtard response. You don't get what is going on here at all {if you even are overseas}. What is going on here is PSYOPS WARFARE. TPBT know that SSRIs in young adults and children causes suicidal thoughts and aggression. They create this carnage so they can point a finger at it and say:"Look, we need "comprehensive" gun control". No, what we need are these drugs to be PULLED OFF THE MARKET. THEY ARE DEADLY. Just trace back to the Columbine shootings and the introduction of SSRIs. The correlation is unmistakably there, and TPTB know it, but continue to allow it. With the exception of the shooter in Louisiana recently, the majority of these shooters going back to Columbine were young adults who were prescribed SSRIs. You don't want a gun, then DON'T BUY ONE. I'll keep mine.

You are entitled to your opinion.  And so am I.  But your arguments on this subject are pretty damn poor.  You can't put the genie back in the bottle.  When it is attempted, the historical reason is because genocide is right around the corner.

The problem is not guns.  It is people.  People have been killing people since the beginning of time - starting with rocks and pointy sticks.  And when you take the guns away, it will just revert back to rocks and pointy sticks.

(spare a million?  I am a little short this week).

Dubai, love your posts but I would say he is right. Still no sign of the Chinese carrier, the Syrian port is too small to take it and it has not been sighted. Same with the planes, anyway neither are needed, plenty more good stuff available in Russia if needed.

The important thing in the strategy of wiping out ISIS is the protection of the Iranian troops when they arrive. No 'accidental' US/NATO bombing.

Regardless of any announcement it seems likely that some kind of no-fly zone may spread East from the coast. For example Syria could say that they didn't want any of their hospitals hit so USAF stay away.

Interestingly, given the number of launch tubes there are just off the coast, there do not appear to be any Tomahawkski's launched, very different to the US approach. Also, the Russians have said that they have not seen any AA missiles, proper or MANPAD. The latter is strange unless the US/Saudi supply chain decided that whilst TOW was OK but Stinger not.

The Russians also seem to be already going for the ISIS/Turkey supply lines just wait for the MSM angst when the do the same with links and depots near the Jordan border.

It is hard to find reliable sources in the fog of war. No one lays out their military plans on the net!

But there are some more sites reporting the only Chinese aircraft carrier to have crossed the Suez.

I don't hold my breath with Debka. I don't trust them either but here is some more links.

syrian port tartus aircraft carrier china

More action should be expected in the next few weeks....I hope the ISIS gets annihilated, one way or another!

I agreed with 99% of your post, but I have a very BIG difference of opinion on the matter of gun control, which you state is a problem with the USA since it won't accept it. WE HAVE GUN CONTROL. IT'S CALLED THE GUN CONTROL ACTS OF 1935, 1968, 1995. Curious how a democrap was in office during each of those years. The day is fast approaching when you will need a gun, but I doubt you will have one, much less know how to use it.

Hey Nostradumbass.

The time has come to move out of Dubai, finally!

However, banking space worldwide is in turmoil and after so many years in it, it is so hard to do something else that you are not used to or trained for.

Banking is all I have done but that sector will not be as lucrative ever again.

It is sad but that is the truth.

All youngsters below the age of 25-30 should not aspire to get into banking. Their future will be doomed.

China is the only exception where there will be growth in banking, otherwise, Iran, perhaps. Rest of all the countries will either stagnate or decline. Banking is moving onshore around the world and paying less and less and giving jobs to less and less.

I doubt McCain or any American can play a global role anymore. I made a comment below in reply to smacker. American empire is on its last legs. They have made too many enemies and are trying to choke itself to death, for some very unknown reasons! No one gives a shit to America. They will all ignore America and that will kill America.

Most nations have created alternative systems to bypass America like IT servers, telephones, banking systems, money payment systems, domestic consumption, low foreign borrowing, tougher rules for foreign banks and insurance companies, strangling Mcdonald's and Starbucks and Hiltons and Marriots etc.

America thinks it has the best patents and research. In some areas like pharma and a few others it does, but over a period of time, most are replicable. A company or a country is as good as the people and brain power it has.

If you have seen, Google executives have been taken over by Chinese companies. Many Chinese are now returning to China for the last decade. Some Indians too though very rare. Some Asians too. Many Russians too. In fact some artists and Snowden etc have ended up in Russia. Thousands of Amnericans have given up passports for multiple reasons especially if they live abroad. US banks and tech companies are on a global retreat as are its oil companies and consumer ones.

Times are changing fast but for American 80-90 year olds who previously ran the American empire, it seems to stand still!

Money is not everything, it never was, it never will be. But for a fleeting decade or two, America thought that money was everything and now those times have gone by....and so have the times of American glory and it is time for a payback!

As many on ZH will agree, payback is a bitch and those times are a coming! :)

Thanks for the insightful commentary. I truly hope for the best, which would be the US standing down in the region, a place in which we never belonged.

Russia, Iran and the rest of the Arab nations can sort this out amongst themselves. We should just walk away as much as possible, though I think there's probably more crap coming from the MIC. The liars on the Sunday shows should offer a little more insight, though, as we all know, nothing even close to resembling the truth comes out on those shows, but, if we read between the lines and lies, we may get a glimmer of hope... and change (sorry).

If we walk away, tail between legs, at this point, and just let Israel flap in the breeze, this could all work out, though Bibi's rhetoric is a little scary, as is he. The Zionists might stir the pot a little more before all is said and done, but, I reiterate, we should just walk the fuck away.

Too late to move away, Freenewenergy, my friend, too late!

America has been involved for well over 50 years in the Middle East mostly due to oil and the petro dollar!

Cannot leave now when the times get tough.

Even if they decide to leave it may take another decade before they actually leave. But I don't believe they can leave until the US dollar has collapsed which is linked to oil and hence to the Saudis/Middle East.

The ball is currently in the court of Saudi, what happens there. If they decide to sell oil in Chinese yuan, only then America will leave, but then too will take another 5-10 years further from then before America is out due to business interests (which are definitely reducing), military (which is still every high and will take years to extract from) and the petro dollar which is the key to the final decision and not to forget their best buddy who always gets Americans killed (Israel).

However, Middle East has also been full of surprises throughout it's history so there is that too which could help deviate course for all concerned!

Just want to point out that if we 'lose' control of the ME it will not be the proverbial end of the US, catering to bric nations for oil and an imploding economy. There are many untapped oil reserves / nat gas in Alaska, the west coast, and The Arctic. Why does russia have such a hard on for the arctic lately? Oil / gas baby!

Remove Obola from office and we start producing again http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/jan/27/editorial-obamas-seizure...

Then theres this shit for brains wiki which I never trust https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_reserves_in_the_United_States

A couple years of ramping things up and we dont need ANY oil from these asshats, have a President with balls amd not a tranny, blow the shit out of the ME oil fields and pipelines, then violla! Petro dollar is back.

I expect many downvotes and rebuttals and accusations.

I was in Tehran as well as Mashaad about 10 days ago.

Met the ex mayor of Mashaad who said that the tourism of 30m in Mashaad is far greater than Mecca and Medina.

Their airport was awesome plus roads are clean and the whole damn city is buzzing. Hotels and people everywhere due to religious tourism. The underground tunnel road below the Imam Reza shrine is perhaps the largest in the world?!

Shandiz Tourist Village is another great opportunity for the locals to let their hair down. Have you been there?

Deals are being done every day. We missed a deal where a complete building structure had to be leased out for a hotel or mall etc. The moment it came to market, within 7 days, it was leased out for 20 years!

The French company Accor became the first international company in 37 years to enter Iran within 60 days of the deal! Swiss have removed sanctions and 50 countries have sent largest delegations ever within 60 days!

Are you and I the only two people who can see that? People just want to believe that this is all born out of incompetence, when all the signs point to a very different conclusion. No, this has all been planned and executed. It began back in the 1970s, when the Shah was undermined, and the Ayatollah Khomeini was given sanctuary in the west. Then Iraq was set-up when the western powers gave him the green light to invade Kuwait, then turned on him when he did. Then came the CIA operation to depose Mubarak in Egypt, our best bought and paid for puppet government. The only conclusion you could draw from all of this, is that it has all been by clever design.

The US should be given a jackass award for their performance. Not only have they shown they cannot be trusted to draw a line straight but to add  the finishing flourish, having accused Russia of killing civilians before Russia even began its campaign the US then showed how it was done by slaughtering a group of western doctors and nurses in Afghanistan.
