Well the Doctors Without Frontiers organization is regarded by a lot of people as a pro-terrorist organization. They go in and provide medical care and shelter both physical and ideological for terrorist of various stripes. Expect to see them get more hits from varous sources. Perception can get you killed. Expect them to pull completely out of Afghanistan since the Afghan government has put bounties on them.

My daughter is trying to learn on a viola. I can play some brass but I have never played strings. I could not resist trying. I let my daughter try first but no sound. Well, lets rosin the bow up. Yeah, then it worked. I had to try white trash style fiddle music. It's is really hard to play fiddle. I had some good tones but it is really hard and the rest sounded like shit. I do not know where to put my fingers on the frets and and I had horse hair flying from the bow.

I am going to have to buy my own fiddle. I know chunga plays strings. Playing fiddle is not about reading music but feeling music.

I was Charlie Daniels' Drummer on the road for awhile back in the 70's. He started me out paying me 150 bucks cash a week (which is what I found out later he was also paying ALL the rest of his side musicians). He told me if I did well he'd up my pay to 500 bucks a week.

After about a month of working for him, on the road after a show on his tourbus... I walked to the back the bus and asked how was I doing? He said you're doin' great man, glad to have you. I said well what about that raise to the 500 bucks? He jumped up and started yelling in my face, something to the effect if I didn't like the 150 bucks he was paying me I could kiss his ass because he was a fucking star.

So... when he got through with his yelling and shit, I went up to the front and told the bus driver to make sure to let my ass off the next stop we made. Soon enough, he stopped the bus, and I got off, and I went to some damn beer joint down the street in some damn town I never heard of, playing drums in some band I never heard of, making 500 bucks a week.

But I don't do that shit anymore. I got too old for that crap.

... and by the way, thats 500 bucks cash, no taxes.

To put that in perspective, back in the 70's you could buy a brand new car straight off the showroom floor for about 3,000 dollars. You could buy a nice four bedroom house in the 70's for about 30,000 dollars.

I bought a used 1979 Cadillac Eldorado for $2000 in the late eighties. More than 120,000 miles and almost 10 years later I gave it to a poor kid at our church. It still ran good. Loved that car.
