Silver & Crude Are Soaring

Tyler Durden's picture

While gold remains unchanged, silver prices are surging higher this morning as crude oil jumps supposedly on geopolitical tensions...

but technical resistance looks key...

Silver is breaking above its 100-day moving-average and Crude is pulling
away from its 50-day moving average (after being glued to it for a
month).

I thought we agreed that the words 'Soaring' and 'Plunging' were not to be used any more.

Eight percent in 1.5 sessions is pretty damn impressive, how 'bout that? Now gold is taking off. Something big is going on behind the curtain, boys and girls. Say we get to $23 then they dump a Bazillion paper ounces on the "market" and smash spot back to $10 or $13. Who is going to believe that? No one! We are witnessing the death throes of paper "markets".

Which is why those who prefer a real analysis over propaganda and shilling, use numbers and charts to see what's happening.  If you leverage a well-known site (http://www.oanda.com/currency/historical-rates), you will see that the words used in the headline are hyperbole.  Again.

"Hey, Dr. Pavlov, why don't you ring that silver bell again?"

If there were actual markets, then you could use reasoning to determine the why's,

It just does it because it does it is all you need to know right now.

These are just peaks in a pool where 30 kids are all splashing to make waves.

Peaks and troughs.  Waves in a pool.

Go ahead and go broke trying to pattern it.

Completely agree. Gold is closing in on 2 week highs, and Silver has rallied to 3 month highs. Pretty amazing after 4 years of steady declines.

There will come a day when the forces that be can no longer manipulate commodities.  Is this that day?  I don't know, but I haven't seen silver jump like this two consecutive days in a very long time, especially over a weekend.

I think when you take information from mixed sources there is an inherent amount of conflict that needs to be sorted through.

It pays to pay less attention to what is said than to what is done.

To state the obvious, once again. Price is managed. There is no free market. Explanations are created after the fact to give cover for the manipulation.

Sell all rallies and what?  What the hell are you doing in the stock market anyway?  And what will you buy?  Dollars?

You should have moved your wealth into silver and gold long ago, for you will wake up one morning and it will be impossible for you to find any, unless you sell your house for gold, and sell your car for silver.

Silver is worth like $5 out of the ground, has no industrial uses, and isn't considered money anymoar since Bernanke rewrote the dictionary.

They wish that was the case.

Ron Paul should of rammed that 1oz silver coin down Bernake's throat when he had the chance lol.

Actually, silver has a lot of industrial uses.   About 50% of annual production of silver is used industrially, compared to 12% of annual gold production.

There is a steady need for industrial silver particularly in electronics.

Another reason for price support for silver is the reduced copper mining this year because of the collapse of copper prices.  Mines are reducing output to the most profitable areas of their mines, and at least one major copper mine has shut down.    Why am I talking copper?  Because 80% of all silver comes as a byproduct of copper, tin, lead and zinc mining.

"50% of annual production of silver is used industrially"

Like oil and other commodities, as the world economy continues to crash so will the iPhone demand and watch silver become unloved by industry. I'm a stacker and I want the price to go up but reality has a tendency to suck.

Mon, 10/05/2015 - 13:11 | 6631534 Anopheles
Anopheles's picture

The use of silver in industry is increasing in more products (components such as touch screens and solar panels).  So even if demand for fancy electronic products is down a little, more silver is still being used overall becasue it's being used in more products.

As for your oil example, you mistake PRICE for SUPPLY/DEMAND.  The actual amount of oil being used is INCREASING, not decreasing.  Only the price is decreasing.

As society falls apart and all utilities fail, we will use the water purification aspects of silver to keep from getting sick.

Just like to the Roman times....

Mon, 10/05/2015 - 13:07 | 6631550 Anopheles
Anopheles's picture

Reality is that silver sucks as as a means of water disinfection (not used for "purification").  It's fine for storage of already treated, clean/pure water, but not for even slightly contaminated water, despite what all the proponents say.   Sure some products promote it, but its more of a marketing gimmick than actually being effective.

That said, the way that silver WITH copper is used in water disinfection is through ACTIVE generation of silver and copper ions using electrolysis.  Simply dipping silver and copper coins into water does practically nothing.

50 cal goes through 1/2" to 3/4" mild steel plate and 50 cal AP will reliably penetrate 1-1/4"
