Edward Snowden: "They've Said They Won't Torture Me..."

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Simon Black via SovereignMan.com,

Just in case anyone still foolishly believes that there’s a shred of decency left in the ‘justice’ system in the Land of the Free, I would humbly present exhibit A: Edward Snowden.

In a recent interview with the BBC, Edward Snowden disclosed that he has offered numerous times to the US government to return to the United States, face trial, and if necessary, spend time in prison.

[full interview below]

It hasn’t mattered that hundreds of thousands of people have signed petitions asking President Obama to pardon Mr. Snowden.

Those petitions have been totally ignored.

So Snowden is preparing to return and face trial, negotiating terms with Uncle Sam to ensure that he’s treated fairly.

As he told the BBC, “So far they’ve said they won’t torture me. Which is a start, I think. But we haven’t gotten further than that.”

It’s a sad reflection on the values of a country that someone who blows the whistle on the government committing egregious crimes and violating its own constitution has to flee to Russia in order to escape oppression.

It’s even worse that the government in the Land of the Free rescinded his passport.

But it’s utterly shocking that any negotiation about his return has to start by taking TORTURE off the table.

The fact that torture even has to be mentioned is utterly pathetic. And it pretty much tells you everything you need to know about justice in America... and what happens if you dare cross the government.

That's what his Russian lawyer confimed, or at least she visits him quite often. He also told the press that Snowden works for some unnamed IT company.

Absolutely!!! Just did a search of hot Russian female athletes and I just about got a woody looking at the pics. A fairly attractive guy, with his notoriety, should not have any trouble shacking up with a hot Russian babe. Russian winters do get a bit nippy, but I'm sure them girls know how to turn up the heat. You know the old song "northern girls, they keep their boyfriends warm at night".

Don't be an idiot Snowden; you did the right thing, now do the smart thing. Don't even think about returning to this pisshole of a country.

Want to know your fate if you return to the US Showden?

Look no further than Chelsea Manning.

The States will not capitulate even in the presence of strong public opposition.

As far as they are concerned you must be made a example of to deter others.

Stay in Russia.

You wait for at least one new US Presidential Administration before attempting to negotiate.  You'll receive nothing from the Administration that was presiding at the time of your whistle-blowing.

This is just the way it is, and it has always been such.  It has nothing to do with the fact that we currently have a nigger president.  No, really.  It doesn't matter that some boon inhabits the White House.  This is not ZH sarcasm.

Ummm, the US has a pretty high bar to call something torture. In fact what the rest of the world calls torture we call enhanced interrogation.

I expect any time spent in contact with US authorities anywhere in the world will result in an auto erotic accident or a double tap suicide.

Why would he give these circus freaks who own this bitch of a country the satisfaction of his public hanging via a kangaroo court?  He seemed stupid before when he released this information while in transit, not from a safe place.  This dipshittery takes the cake though.

It was nice that the shills of the internet were revealed and this fiasco went a long way toward retiring the tin foil hat defamatory accusation phrase.  But his decisions are foolish and he has no common sense.  Now he is going to try to undo the good he has managed to accomplish if he goes through with this stupid homecoming stunt.

I remember the first article about Snowden wanting to come back to the US I read was published by the AP, so I automatically smelled the distinct odor of propaganda alll over it. Then following the usual channels, the story spread to the other mainstream media outlets...

Seriously, did he break up with his pole-dancer girlfriend? Somehow I doubt that would be the reason for a sudden pining to come back to America and spend the rest of his life in jail. In fact, in not a single article have I come across any mention of a reason why Snowden wishes to return to the U.S. at this time.

SNOWden would be better off living in Siberia.  He will not ever come back to the US unless it is in a body-bag.  Sadly; we need many more of him.  However if everyone in positions of power and authority were to tell the truth for just a day; the entire house of cards built strictly on lies would come crashing down and all hell would break loose.

You know Ed...

It would go a long way in your current digs to "pan handle" some for the ones you left back home that are sorta "stuck"...  My understanding from the likes of Drake, Binney and Tice they are still pulling the IRS out of their ass along with the hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees they are stuck with 13 years later....  Let alone the ones that are still in prison doing time like pfc Manning.

Wonder why NSA and CIA types like Kiriakou get out of prison and not the poor foot soldier that said he would die in prison or swing from a rope if necessary based on what he had both heard and seen while he served his Country with honor and distinction?...  Sure wish we had a bigger list for the DoD but we don't!!!!

Nice to know the BBC still does interesting work and at least has the "edifice" of integrity if nothing else.  Jane Standley didn't conduct the interview for this one now did she?

Love ya bro!

P.S.

When you get the chance and I know it doesn't really matter at this point given how many years you worked for the agency and are smart enough to draw the right conclusions show your patrotism by signing this.

He should really give up any thought of coming back to the US.  It is not going to happen.

By even talking like he thinks it is going to happen makes him look naive.

Agreed. I have no idea why he would even consider coming back. He could live a nice peaceful and long life with his girlfriend over there. He also can do far more good out of prison by speaking out publicly than in some CIA black site hellhole that he'd inevitably be tossed into by the monsters in the US government.

Stay free Eddy, learn to garden. Enjoy your new life.

The legal/judicial system in the US is just that: a  system.

From the lowly divorce trial court up to the Supreme Court of the US, it is sentencing first and verdict after wards, just as Alice said it.

Ed would die if he returned. A cancer, quick consumption would silence him. He would never last long enough to get to trial. Ed is completely naive about returning. Before Ed, the fact is most tech savy people understood that the NSA was watching all the data on the Internet. Ed did not do ISIS or any nefarious assholes any favors or betray the 'we' US citizens. Before Ed, nefarious people new that encryption is/was/maybe still is the only way to communicate if you want to keep your data away from the NSA. The only thing Ed changed was the wake up call the American public who were and for the most part still are ignorant about the criminal acts of our own government.

Speaking of government dirty deeds does anyone remember the Church Committee and the heart attack gun? That was a long time ago, they show the weapon and some of the proceedings as well as an interview with one ex CIA employee who helped develop it.  Basically they had an undetectable poison that could induce heart attack that only takes a pin prick to deliver, the early models used darts and this is 70s technology.  Oh yeah, they can induce fast acting cancer too, this is very old news.

Not even

The CIA people in Russia could easily get the guy.

In the six months before Snowden arrived in Moscow, the FSB identified and Russia expelled 3 CIA agents and publicly outed (redundant for emphasis) the CIA CHIEF OF STATION  in Moscow.

On May 20, 2013, six days after CIA agent Ryan Fogle was pinned to the pavement wearing a blonde wig by FSB men, Snowden arrived in Hong Kong.

A month later, after Putin himself flushed the rest of CIA out of the Augean Stables along the Moskva River, Snowden arrived in Moscow.

I suppose there are some CIA operatives in Moscow but they've lost their controllers and don't know what to do or who to report to.

Snowden should be pardonned. He performed an invaluable service for the American citizen against the political class That is why he will not be pardonned by the group he outed

It would take a new President, and a new Justice Department. If they offered him a deal, there wouldnt have to be a trial.

To find the measure of a politician, find out how they stood on Snowden when the story first broke. Many of the ones demanding his hide knew what was happening at the NSA, and approved. IMHO, data mining is the ultimate dream of every dirty politican

ANYONE who walks out of a top-security Federal Prison after many years ... is basically going to be a Human Vegetable.  That's the truth of it.

It doesn't require torture.  The extreme ISOLATION with no contact with the outside world ...  will eventually break down all human beings until they are like a mindless robot in an auto factory.  This is how the prison cells are designed.

Game over.

Humans have withstood isolation for decades, if they have good cause and good coping skills.  Granted, those who are accustomed to the mindless chatter of electronic entertainment 24/7 are more likely to have trouble with it than those who have trained their minds.  If a computer programmer can improvise a writing tool, he/she can keep mentally active for as long as necessary by writing code.

If Edward Snowden is even negotiating to return to the US then he's out of his mind. Really.

However good or bad he's getting on in Russia, it's better than spending years in a US prison for acting in the public interest. As for the promise not to torture him, we all know that when it suits them, US authorities have a very variable definition of the term. Think about what happened to Chelsea Manning who was left in a cold cell naked for nights on end for the purpose of rank humiliation.

Edward Snowden: "Wake up. The criminals in Washington won't be in power forever."

Of course Snowden is not really negotiating for his return.  He and he NSA are playing a mini game of chess.

He knows that the US government are still anxious to know what he took with him.

And that they might be able to find out, through these negotiations, whether or not Document X or Document Y was in his booty.

On Snowden's part, he is interested to find out what it is that the NSA wants know about so he can pull it from the other million documents, brush up on it, and

 krackle krackle  communication lost

On the other hand he may be missing home now the novelty has warn off and is genuinely negotiating to see if they will agree terms which he can accept.

Snowden is smart enough to know he'd have to go into "the Alleged Traitors Protection Program" if and when he returns.

But you're pulling my leg, aren't you?

Now that I learn that Snowden is trying to return to the USA *AFTER* having flagrantly smashed MULTIPLE super-stinky shit bombs into the faces of the American regime leaders AND after having coddled up to the enemies of the American regime leaders, I am absolutely sure that his brain is severely defective.

In the video @ 25:45 - snowden charged with "theft of government property", "unauthorized communication of national defense information", "willful communication of classified communications intelligence information to an unauthorized person"

It's a crime! It's treason!

But when the government steals our "property" (information), communicates our information within itself and to other governments abroad, thereby willfully communicating our information to persons we did not authorize to receive it, that's not only perfectly OK, it's noble and patriotic. Remember people, governments have rights, you don't have shit.

(Nevermind that what snowden exposed was criminal activity which has no right to remain private and which it actually is noble and patriotic to expose. The government had to steal our information before snowden could expose them for stealing our information. Apparently "government property" is what they call plans for organized crime these days. Welcome to Bizzaro US. The hypocracy and backwards logic will continue so long as the average voter is stupid and morally bankrupt enough to continue selecting it.)

Snowden may be a true patriotic man in an era of unpatriotic unnecessity from the government standpoint. I personally would not trial the government in this case. I would think that they would douse me with psychotropics and force me to fabricate a valid reason for doing what I did. Then put me away or execute me to be forgotten while they ran business as usual for their gain. This, I think,  is the dilemma of what Snowden fears. Trust. Where can you go when you can trust no one? And Snowden really cannot trust anyone. Even the people that protect him are undoubtably being pressured in some way. He is a man alone against a huge security apparatus with influence all over the world. We made him what he is. We can't deny it as the facts are here and forthcoming. And you know how this ends. Somehow a seal team somewhere will shut him up. Sooner or later. Pray young Snowden. I fear you've gone up against a monster so much bigger than yourself.

I wouldn't take their word for it.

First, obviously, there are many different definitions of "torture", and the U.S. has proven its willingness to use some, well, torturous definitions in order to avoid admitting to the practice.

Second is the fact that once in their hands, they will do whatever they want, regardless of what they promise. Just look at the treatment received by Chelsea Manning.

Third is the way that once sucked into the bowels of the prison system, a detainee is rendered invisible, and the eyes of public opinion that might otherwise restrain retaliation will be shut out.  Once the doors close, not only can they do whatever they want, but NO ONE WILL EVER SEE.

Don't trust them, Cousin Ed.  Russia might not be your ideal home-away-from-home, but it beats anything the Prison Industrial Complex has to offer.

Snowden is a pretty smart guy. Obviously, he wants out of the Novaya Zemlya of Opportunitski, much to the chagrin of the ZH battalion of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, and has chosen an excellent time to make his play.

With Hillary on the firing line for doing the same thing as he did (but to a lesser degree), he can dare the authorities to prosecute him-- which automatically convicts La Clintonette of the same offences. Or they have to let him walk in order to let her walk.

No wonder they aren't interested in talking "Let's Make A Deal" at this time. He'll be spending Christmas 2016 in Magnitogorsk but might make it home for Valentine's Day thereafter. Depending, of course, on who wins.

Careful there Edward, the US has funny ideas about what constitutes torture, for example drowning you over and over but not letting you actually die is classed as 'enhanced interrogation' not torture, holding you permanently naked in isolation under 24 hour lights in a freezing cell while depriving you of sleep is just considered to be holding you in 'humane conditions'

You are better off where you are, you have zero chance of a fair trial, God Bless you for your honesty and integrity.

SPOT ON article.  If Snowden does return, I can only imagine that he would regret his decision to return while rotting miserably in prison and coming to the realization that it would be decades before he even had a glimmer of hope of ever getting out.  He is dealing with tyranny and a corrupt government bent on revenge because he shed light on how evil they have become in their wholesale trampling on civil and religious liberties.  They should be charged with treason and imprisoned, including W. Bush and Obama, and Snowden should be welcomed home with great honor.
