Paul Craig Roberts: A Decisive Shift In The Power Balance Has Occurred

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Paul Craig Roberts,

The world is beginning to realize that a seachange in world affairs occured on September 28 when President Putin of Russia stated in his UN speech that Russia can no longer tolerate Washington’s vicious, stupid, and failed policies that have unleashed chaos, which is engulfing the Middle East and now Europe.

Two days later, Russia took over the military situation in Syria and began the destruction of the Islamic State forces.

Perhaps among Obama’s advisors there are a few who are not drowning in hubris and can understand this seachange. Sputnik news reports that some high-level security advisors to Obama have advised him to withdraw US military forces from Syria and give up his plan to overthrow Assad. They advised Obama to cooperate with Russia in order to stop the refugee flow that is overwhelming Washington’s vassals in Europe. The influx of unwanted peoples is making Europeans aware of the high cost of enabling US foreign policy. Advisors have told Obama that the idiocy of the neoconservatives’ policies threaten Washington’s empire in Europe.

But Washington’s impulsive use of power is a danger to America and to the world. Arrogant Washington politicians and crazed neoconservatives are screaming that the US must shoot down Russian aircraft that are operating against the US-supplied forces that have brought death and destruction to Syria, unleashing millions of refugees on Europe, in Washington’s effort to overthrow the Syrian government.

Even my former CSIS colleague, Zbigniew Brzezinski, normally a sensible if sometimes misguided person, has written in the Financial Times that Washington should deliver an ultimatum to Russia to “cease and desist from military actions that directly affect American assets.” By “American assets,” Brzezinski means the jihadist forces that Washington has sicced on Syria.

Brzezinski’s claim that “Russia must work with, not against, the US in Syria” is false. The fact of the matter is that “the US must work with, not against Russia in Syria,” as Russia controls the situation, is in accordance with international law, and is doing the right thing.

Ash Carter, the US Secretary for War, repeats Brzezinski’s demand. He declared that Washington is not prepared to cooperate with Russia’s “tragically flawed” and “mistaken strategy” that frustrates Washington’s illegal attempt to overthrow the Syrian government with military violence.

Washington’s position is that only Washington decides and that Washington intends to unleash yet more chaos on the world in the hope that it reaches Russia.

I guess no one in hubristic and arrogant Washington was listening when Putin said in his UN speech on September 28: “We can no longer tolerate the state of affairs in the world.”

The intolerable state of affairs is the chaos that Washington has brought to the Middle East, chaos that threatens to expand into all countries with Muslim populations, and chaos from which millions of refugees are flooding into Europe.

Not satisfied with threatening Russia with war, Washington is preparing to send US Navy ships inside the 12-nautical-mile territorial limit of islands created by China’s land reclamation project. The Navy Times reports that three Pentagon officials have said on background that “approval of the mission is imminent.”

So here we have the US government gratuitously and provocatively threatening two nuclear powers. The Washington warmongers try to pretend that land reclamation is “an act of regional aggression” and that Washington is just upholding international law by protecting “freedom of navigation.”

By “freedom of navigation,” Washington means Washington’s ability to control all sea lanes. After all of Washington’s violations of international law and war crimes during the last 14 years, Washington’s claim to be protecting international law is hilarious.

Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, a former director of the US Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s intelligence organization, said that Washington needs to understand that “Russia also has foreign policy; Russia also has a national security strategy” and stop crossing Russia’s “red lines.”  Gen. Flynn thus joins with Patrick J. Buchanan as two voices of sense and sensibility in Washington. Together they stand against the arrogance and hubris that will destroy us.

Several commentators, such as Mike Whitney and Stephen Lendman, have concluded, correctly, that there is nothing that Washington can do about Russian actions against the Islamic State. The neoconservatives’ plan for a UN no-fly zone over Syria in order to push out the Russians is a pipedream. No such resolution will come out of the UN. Indeed, the Russians have already established a de facto no-fly zone.

Putin, without issuing any verbal threats or engaging in any name-calling, has decisively shifted the power balance, and the world knows it.

Washington’s response consists of name-calling, bluster and more lies, some of which is echoed by some of Washington’s ever more doubtful vassals. The only effect is to demonstrate Washington’s impotence.

If Obama has any sense, he will dismiss from his government the neoconservative morons who have squandered Washington’s power, and he will focus instead on holding on to Europe by working with Russia to destroy, rather than to sponsor, the terrorism in the Middle East that is overwhelming Europe with refugees.

If Obama cannot admit a mistake, the United States will continue to lose credibility and prestige around the world.

Not that it ever mattered to the Exceptional country but International law is on Russia's side, It is not on the side of those who commit wars crimes by bombing hospitals and killing innocent civilians. The court of international opinion is turning very rapidly.

Will Russia & Iran taking over the Middle East mean we can go home?  Let them have it, they'll be fighting Arabs for the next 50 years.

Or they will kill them all.

An unappetizing choice for us in the West.  But, wars in the Middle East are none of our business.  Let them fight their own damn wars.  If Russia wants in, OK, but there may very well be unpredictable blowback for them and/or us.

Good luck with that shale oil.

Next move, the Saudis accept RMB payment for oil exports to China, the Saudis largest customer. Controlling Iraq and Syria means Russia will control gas supplies to Europe. If I were them, I would paly the US at its own game and demand payment for gas in either Gold or Rubles. At the right time.

Unlike the US, Russia and China will not lecture these countries on how to run themselves but will just cooperate on trade. Which is why China has been so succesful in Africa.

Um, in case you hadn't noticed, Hong Kong is actually part of China? I don't like the system in China any more than you BUT China IS a Soveriegn State and it can manage itself precisely how it so chooses, irrepective of what the US thinks.....

Re: "Hong Kong is actually part of China"

Um, it is and isn't. Officially, it's called an Autonomous Territory. Talk to locals, and the answer changes. The PRC cuts HK a lot of political slack, even though the two are joined at the hip economically.  But whenever somebody on the Mainland opens their yap and says something about HK being "Chinese," HK protests follow...

Um, actually it isn't, it's called a Special Adminsitrative Region, or "SAR", like also Macau. When Hong Kong was RETURNED TO CHINA, in 1997, the SAR was establsihed during a 50-Year transition back to full Chinese administration. But, Um, it IS part of China and if it wanted to, beijing COULD renege on the agreement with The UK and just fully takeover.

And if the UK objected, it might be a little more difficult than The Faulklands to take back again?

As an aside, I don't see China doing that for a vaiety of reasons, including that 50 years to the Chinese is nothing.

My guess is that after 50 years, China will be looking more like Singapore with a veneer of democracy but still a single party state with state controlled media and without freedom of speech or rights of assemply.

You may be right. There will still be a China. What will America look like?

P.S. Wikipedia link notwithstanding, I just share what natives have told me. Some object strenuously to being called "Chinese."  HK to them is a nation unto itself.  It can seem quite petty: they don't generally accept Chinese Yuan, they don't answer questions asked in Mandarin, and you have to get separate travel visas.

China does not much care what the average HONG KONG resident thinks. HK is the portal to the mainland. China 'prefers' to keep things peaceful and maintain a pretty veneer, but make no mistake, HK belongs to China.

Let's see...before the UK leased HK for 99 years, of which sovereign country was it a part?

Answer:

The territory that now comprises Hong Kong was incorporated into China during the Qin dynasty (221 – 206 BC), and the area was firmly consolidated under the ancient kingdom of Nanyue (203 – 111 BC). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Hong_Kong

If they make it that long, but I'm not sure they will because they aren't that smart.  They have let their money go to their head, and are on their second if not third generation of oil money brats in leadership positions by now, which means that they are being led by the equivalent of trust fund kids, who have a bone to pick because they want to make a name for themselves, but having been raised in an economic bubble, have no real idea how the world works. They think they are a regional power, and thus have been making moves over the last few years, trying to force the US to back their play to upend Syria so they can get their pipeline and thus have a longer term viable strategy to hold onto their money and power.  But that ain't gonna happen.

Here's what's going to happen instead.  Shia are on a roll because the Shia and Russians have formed an alliance. The Middle East has been flipped.  The old paradigm was Sunni minorities and nationalist dictators propped up by Western powers behind them, said powers happy to turn a blind eye to whatever atrocities their pet puppets committed, as long as said pet puppets didn't fuck with the ability of Western oil companies to lock in huge contracts to extract oil.  That all changed in 1953 when the Persians wised up and Mosadegh tried to nationalize the Iranian oil industry, only to get impaled by the pointy end of Operation Ajax.   The British oil embargo destroyed nationalist, non-religious Iranian power, and it took another 25 years of the Shah for resentment to build enough for the Iranians to decide to back the clerics to regain their sovereignty.  The revolution left a nasty Shia aftertaste for the US government, which bookended neatly with the deal with the devil the US made 6 years earlier when we decided the Saudi Sunnis should be our oil mistress, because although their Wahabbism was unbelievably fugly when the lights were on, when the lights were off the oil was just so fucking good.

And this was the paradigm in the Middle East for another 20 years -- Sunni good, Shia bad.

But the world kept going around, and during this 20 years Russia wised up and realized that proselytizing the world on behalf of Communism, while it made them feel good, like they had a purpose and were making the world a better place, also put them in about the same category as the damn Mormons on their bikes.  Plus it was a wonky system based on a fundamental misunderstanding how the world and human nature worked, and while the folks at the top made out like Amway bandits, that promised classless society never really materialized.  So, they gave up on it after they hit rock bottom, suffered through cold turkey withdrawal and associated economic DTs, and waded back into the fray with their old nationalist empire jersey on.  But the US didn't understand that the game had changed, and couldn't figure out why their hair band "US Fighting for Freedom All Star Review" was suddenly only able to book dead end casinos.  And, because we couldn't come to terms emotionally or intellectually with the reality that we had turned ourselves into the very thing we swore to defeat in the USSR, we institutionalized the "if you're not cheating, you're not trying" mantra, meaning that we became an empire so wedded to the triumph of our ideology that we willingly sacrificed our ideology in order to assure its success.

And, the inevitable conclusion after we lost our way was that our clueless trust fund baby society, moronically presuming that popular will equaled wise choices, elected for decade after decade the intellectual equivalent of children who didn't understand the dark choices our leaders made decades ago in order to paper over the fact that once the Texas oil was gone, we had no business owning the reserve currency concession any longer.  And these child leaders proceeded to destroy, one by one, all of the dictator bracing we had wedged into the MENA in order to keep the oil mine from caving in.

And suddenly, in the last few weeks, the new paradigm that has been brewing for decades just had its coming out party.  As I said, the Shia are on a roll.  Iran and Iraq, now that the dictator and the Sunni minority are gone, have nothing to fight about any more.  They will effectively be one country.  Aided, of course, by the recent agreement that conveniently allows oil money to once more flow to Persia.  Which will allow them to support the Shia rebellion in Yemen, thus bleeding the Saudis at the time that they can least afford it, funneling Russian weapons so that no clot ever slows the steady trickle of blood.  And meanwhile, to the north, Lebanese and Iranian Shia are effectively taking over Syria under Russian air cover, thus preserving Shia Alawite control.  Saudi Arabia is being pinched between north and south arms of Shia, and the next act for the Shia-Russian alliance is for Iranians to funnel Russian arms to the Shia minority that live in the Saudi oil fields, and it is not inconceivable that a Shia minority could take over Saudi Arabia now that the citizens are firmly hooked on oil largess smack -- they'll blow whoever promises them an endless supply of oil money dime bags.

The masterstroke of all this paradigm flipping will be for Syria and Iraq to offer their two Kurdish regions the chance to become a single autonomous nation, because this will rupture the Turkish Kurdish abscess internally into Turkey.  The Kurds will jump at this chance because being a regular US booty call has never gotten them any perks that they didn't fight for and earn themselves, and with automony, their own oil, and Russian weapons they can really put the screws to Turkey, and the delicious irony for the Russians is that they get to sit back and watch NATO solidarity implode from two layers away.

Nicely written but you left out the most crucial events; 911 and the banker bailout where taxpayers were forced to take over 8 trillon of bad debt on the banks balance sheet, even though the banks are privately run and made a fortune on loans.  The key event so far of the 21st century is that 911 not only occured but that is was a FRAUD. The proof is voluminous, but my favorite talking points are; the pentagon wall only has a 15 foot single hole, but there is not a single mark for the 2 jet engines.  Allowing a hole for the fuselage, then there should have been 3 holes and 3 does not equal 1 in this universe.  Ever hear of WTC 7?  You know the building with minor corner damage and minor fires, that suddenly collapses at 5:30 PM.  Google Chesed Golem and 911

The WTC 1 tower was turned into a crater and CRATER = EXPLOSIVE; just pause at 1:17 in this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPJUP-Ry7d0

Now who has the power to steal 8 trillion and cause a war between the US and every country in the ME that Israel is unfriendly with?  Flummoxed?  Well the answer is the international banking cartel and their hired functionaries.  All wars run by the west are Banker wars, since Bankers run the west  Now which ethnic group do the Rothschilds, Shiffs, Warburgs belong too?  Why is every Fed Chair Jewish?  Why is the US run by ISrael?  Why did congress give 50 or more standing ovations to Bibi, a man who is a uranium smuggler ?  Rothschild bought the land that became Israel and his descendants own every important US politican.  JFK was the exception and was taken out by the CIA, Johnson, and the Banks working together.  AS soon as JFK was gone, ISrael was given a green light by Johnson to develop nukes and the miitary assistance to ISreal went up 10 fold.

We didn't "lose our way" as you put it; instead we were 'led by the nose' by a group of financial oligarchs that owns the right to create money out of nothing and loan it to us at interest.   They aren't going away unless they are forceably removed.

The west turned the ME into a seething cauldron of war between Shia and Sunni.  The Turks seemed to run the region just fine for centuries even though there was the same mixture of ethnic groups; so did Assad, Saddam, and Quadaffi on smaller scales.  The Shah was removed because he wanted to build 20 or so nuclear power plants and Kissinger became apoplectic that his beloved ISrael would no longer be the sole nuclear power in the region, so the Shah was removed and replaced with a fundamentalist leader who would agree, at the time, to not build nukes and to be a bulwark against the atheistic USSR (which made Brzezinski happy too)

Until 911 is resolved and the perps put in jail, the USA is going to go down slowly but inexorably from internal contradictions that arise from continuing a failed policy built upon a fraudalent premise.  Those using alternative news media such as intellectuals and the young know absolutely that 911 was a false flag attack by a  group  players, mostly dual citizens of Israel, that pull the strings in Washington.   And until the Jewish people living in ISrael or outside can acce[t that non Jews are not 'beasts to be exploited' and 'exist only to serve Jews', then the ultimate concluding war between the Bankers and the people will eventualy come and, when it does, it will likely mean the end of civiliazation as we know it.  Interest and debt keeps growing; the bankers will be able to seize more and more assets from people, businesses, and governments.  The pressure rises to a point that an explosive occurs and war between the people and bankers occurs.  This time the bankers have their own nukes, stationed in the country, Israel, that they bought and built up. That means they aren't giving up without a nuclear fight. And Jews will never accept that non jews have equal status, perhaps not until the final conflagration happens to the world, and even then I have my doubts

The common trolling America-hater frustrated by an inability to make anything of their lives is a perfect fit following Paul Craig Roberts seemingly endlessly postal rants with a comment such as, "You can always hope."  Hoping Paul Craig Roberts turns out to be a prophet carries a lot of failed-predictions baggage however.

Paul Craig Roberts is often tauted by alternative media blogs as being a Washngton D.C. insider that understands the halls of power, and how things really work, political and even geopolitical.  But the truth is Paul Craig Roberts was an assistant something-or-other during the Reagan Administration for just six months, before he was uncerimoniously given his pink slip for neither fitting in, nor producing anything of value.  The fear was that he would end up a serious embarrassment.  So out the door he went, shoved as it were back into the cruel irrational world Roberts so obviously despises.  Paul Craig Roberts has wasted his life ever since trying to prove his Machiavellian mettle by endlessly ranting and blogging fruitcake ideas about how the world should really work, if it were run by Paul Criag Roberts.  LoL

Paul Craig Roberts circular reasoning is evidence of a serious personality disorder.  It's a personality disorder regularly manifested by comment posters who find something to agree with when they read the rants of Paul Craig Roberts.  In that sense the Internet has given the world something new, or at least something greatly enhanced.  Delusional beliefs manifesting themselves into a kind of hyper-reality created by belief systems that have burgeoned within disaffected groups of like-minded online simpletons.

The reinforcing feedback loop is powerful among disaffected groups that find some relief from their psychological depression, by claiming that the world is in worse shape than they are.  This transcendence above reality into the delusional hyper-reality of the disaffected provides a view of the world that is god-like.  These people love their guns!

One of the best examples of this sort of group delusion is currently being manifested by the legalize dope crowd that trolls the Internet constantly exclaiming that dope cures evertyhing from cancer to stupidity.  All these like-minded disaffected misfits live in their delusional hyper-reality group-worlds.  Don't bother them with the reality that dope is for dummies.

The common bullion Bozos are another sect of the same sort.  Gold is going to $5000 and ounce, or even, $64,000 an ounce and beyond, despite the obvious fact that gold acts just like all commodities, and has been a losing investment for years.  They might just as well exclaim that wheat is going to go to $64,000 a bushel.  Sure it is.

years ago 'reasonable" middle-East governments did the math and decided selling their oil in dollar-denominated reserves ceased to be logical.  Sometime around the year 2000.

The result has been a forced alliance between Fed.Gov and "unreasonable" insane radical extremists-who quickly  realized that all they need to do to keep Uncle Sam on their side was promise him they would continue oil sales in dollars.

Unfortunatley their insanity has proven contagious

Wondering after Putin causes global nuclear war who will he sell his nations only product, hydrocarbons to? Russia is fully self supporing for all of its citizens and only sells hydrocarbons as a means by which to help others, right. No other needs. Only to help others. Hell Putin could stop all production at any time he wants and it would have no affect on the Russian economy.

The current price of a barrel of oil has nothing to do with his choice to use military force in Syria. When other leaders of nations whose current account balance and whose economy is struggling begin aggresive military actions, ie WAR, non propaganda media will point out that WAR is always the mechanism tyrants use to shift focus at home away from the reality of home.

But not when Russia-Putin is waging WAR. He must be there to fix a problem the west created. Could not have a fucking thing to do with the price of oil. Hey its not like oil is important to those freedom creating Russians. You know there are and have been Russian speaking peoples in Syria for a long time. Wonder when he will annnex it to protect the Russian speaking peoples from Assads regime? Worked once before for Mr Putin how long before he tries it again?

Why is it when the USA engages in nation building our motives are questioned especially when the country is a hydrocarbon producer or is near a major seller.

Yet when Putin, Russia, is nation building with their military no one ever questions their hydrocarbon motives.

Not "fuck off and die" .  The simple answer is to have ALL of their family, and extended family sent DIRECTLY to the front lines of ANY conflict they approve of.  Then we get to see how brave they are.  Give em all,  aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews a fucking tin pot and a Garand... ship 'em off to the front.  See who 'declares war" then.

Absolutely 100% right on. WTF business do we have telling every f***ing country in the world they must do as we tell them? Give them billions of $ if they are our obedient puppets and bomb the shit out of them if they aren’t. If China showed up in the Gulf of Mexico and told us what to do, we would immediately start a f***ing war. But it is okay for us to sail half-way around the world to their backyard, and tell them what to do. We can bomb Syria, but no one else is allowed to.

We really do think we own the whole f***ing world! The result is going to be WWIII and us trying to put the blame on Russia and China. It’s not just neocons either, you hear the same shit from both parties, “How dare they challenge American supremacy and exceptionalism?” Who made us the world’s policeman? The MIC wants the profits from war, so they push the weak president around and make him think it is his idea we must rule the world.

Putin is not some third-world leader who is afraid of us. He sees the mess we have made in every country we have invaded and occupied. Americans just listen to our own propaganda 24/7 and are too stupid to see the truth. More death and destruction in the name of “spreading democracy”.   Having said that you can't expect PCR to bring it up in every article.

Yes I can.

When you talk about a Washington before it is captured by our enemy, you are in a different context than talking about a Washington after is has been captured by our enemy.

Our Washington contains an occupied government. This is obvious by the WTC7 collapse. The government/media conspiracy is obvious from the fact that less than 8% know about the WTC7 collapse, yet 100% know about the collapse of WTC1&2 and the cavemen with box knives conspiracy theory.

If PCR knows about this (as you claim, since he has written about it) he must always couch his writing and remarks in the context of an "occupied" Washington. For 92% of the population, just saying Washington leaves out a very important reality since they are working under propaganda and misinformation spoon feeding created illusion.

Folks. It looks like we have slipped into the den of thieves here. Take names.

withglee's picture

Give it a rest, PCR has written about 911 many times, it would be redundant here.

It sets the context in which he writes. He can't be saying "if 9/11 wasn't an obvious inside job, this is what I think is going on". And he can't be saying "this is what I think is going on" if he knows 9/11 was an obvious inside job. He can't have it both ways. He is part of the problem ... and you seem to be carrying his water.

Every commentator getting public attention must couch their remarks in the context that the USA is an occupied country ... every time they speak and write. Our occupation is evidenced by 911 and the government's ridiculous conspiracy theory of what went down that day. The government and media have proven without doubt by the WTC7 collapse (with nothing hitting it) and the BBC announcing it 30 minutes before the fact and less than 8% even know about it (when 100% know about WTC1&2) and obvious government cover ups and sham investigations after the fact.

We know how this is done. Look how often we have a subject related to what the Nazis did or what Hitler was like. It sets the stage for the propaganda that follows. Failure to set the stage when the truth is known is just the flip side of the same coin.

You and PCR are not fooling us Setarcos.

I have that video on my phone. It's not the video I show when taking my poll. But when someone challenges my mention that the BBC announced the collapse 30 minutes before the fact, I bring it out. I have now polled my 190th person. I am still at 15 people who know about WTC7. All knew about WTC1&2 and the cavemen and the box cutters.

I encourage everyone who can to start a poll of your own. People often ask, "well what can I do about it"? Well, you can take such a poll. By doing so I have informed 175 people who needed it. And I have avoided ridiculous discussions about what Bush did or what Obama is doing or what Trump will do.

They're all obviously in on it.

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts is a smart man most of the time, but when it comes to credibility & prestige, America has none. America is a demented sociopathic bully that must be completely annihilated for the Crimes Against Humanity America has committed over the last half century of Global Sociopathy unleashed on the World.

America is pathologically bent on power, and that is why America has no power in this world anymore. America is a defunct nation that is just about to be completely destroyed for their debased aggression throughout the world. America is beyond a psychologically sick & diseased nation. Most people in the world will not actually tell Americans the truth of how they feel about America. I can tell America what people outside of America think about America because I am a good neighbour, America.

It's time for America to pay for the wars of aggression. America thought it would be the Global bully forever, but the entire world is turning on the bully, and the bully is about to get a taste of their own medicine because most people in the world outside of America are fed up with the aggression, murder, genocide, and all round diseased mind of Congress, the Pentagon, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and all the other American exceptionalists.

Kiss my ass fascist America, you brownshirt jackbooted peabrained thugs. Die, die, die, America.

You musr realize that the average American is totally diffferent to the psychos who  represent him. So be careful when you call for the 'death of America'.  But the average American is culpably responsible for his utter disinterst in and criminal lack of knowledge of the forces destroying his country.

I ran for public office twice, and I am fully involved with the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario. I complain to municipal, provincial, federal politicians on a regular basis to complain about government antics and policy. If I had nuclear weapons I would launch them at Western governments, and their politicians, faster than you could say 'status quo'.

The Jews regard the Russians as the enemies and always have; most of the communist high officials were Jewish and the Russians in turn regard ISrael as the enemy.  But the old adage to hold your enemies closer to you than your friends is operative for the RUssians and by having forces on the border of ISrael, they will be able to contain the power of ISrael and in particular get Israel out of Syria.    The Jews regard everybody as either a willful dupe or an advesary; their racism exceeds that of any western group I'm aware of.  What western group disowns (as in 'you cease to exist') children who marry outside of the religion? What western religion other than Judaism has laws (mitzvahs) stating that one can steal, charge interst, kill even a non member of that group?  Who has lived longest with Jews as neighbors other than the Russians?

Putin will act pleasantly toward Bibi, but he is in Syria to contain ISrael as well as keep his Med port open; the whole reason for the push to get rid of Assad is so that Israel can prevent Iran from extending it's influence to Lebanon.  This oil pipleline talk is disinformation.  Putin sees that unless Israel pays a price, the ME will continue to be destablized.   The more Israel destablizes the ME, the more Putin will have to move his armed forces, with their nukes, S-300, S-400, S-500 right to the border of Israel  Now that will contain Bibi's threats beause Putin can enforce a no fly zone over Israel if he wants too.   Of course if he did, that would trigger nuclear war with Israel and that may very well come because Bibi cannot tolerate any Iranian presence in Syria close to his border

President Putin is a perfect example of talk softly but carry a big stick.

Not once has he insulted the U.S or any U.S Gov official... (at least in public).

He has always spoke of all nations as partners, even the U.S. (possibly a little sarcasm there)

When that man took over for Yeltsin I laughed. Another unknown Ruskie drunk. Boy was I and many others wrong. I have the greatest respect for him as he has managed so far to check the U.S without violence and has managed to prevent a nuclear war that the U.S seems hell bent on starting.

He may well end up saving the species from incineration.... hopefully.

Excellent analysis. I'm certain he's cracked a few heads on his way up and might have stashed away a few roubles for a rainy day. But everything about him tells me he's intelligent, well-informed, judicious, responsible and most of all a patriot. Far from plunging the world into war he seems the best guarantor against it.

Soon and I think very soon is the end of the US $ as the world reserve currency...

I think Russia and China are all prepared for this, I think the Russian Stance against the Muricans at this time is not by coincidence. What and how can the muricans pay for a war after the collapse of the us$.

Like I have said many times before, sooner or later every kid in the playground will gang uo on the bully and be done with him once and for all.

That lap dog Harper better smarten up before he gets all the Canadians killed as well.

It is not about "winning" in the classical senses.  It is about creating chaos and global debt, tied to the USD.

From the bankers' view: "Control the debt, and you control everything".  It looks like this is being tested to the extreme by one side (pro Usury), and rebuffed by the other (anti Usury).  The stage is set, the players are almost ready to perform the Global Opera.

"Tyler Durden of Zero Hedge and others are misinterpreting Steve Kroft’s “60 Minutes” interview with President Obama. They see weakness and confusion in Obama’s responses and conclude that Kroft shredded Obama.

What I see is entirely different." - Paul Craig Roberts 12OCT15

I just came across this now. I was mulling over my own comment on the 60 minutes thread today and the thought crossed my mind that maybe sometimes the word "leadership" doesn't always manifest the way we think it should. Maybe President Obama realized quite some time ago that The United States Of America, even from the highest office in the land, was incapable of 'leading' on the most important issue facing the future...

Does nobody else find it odd that all this is happening right before Paris? I said many moons ago that it wouldn't be Hugo Chavez pounding on the podium in Paris...

My problem with Trump is that he hasn't defined his wotkd view. It's not enough to be pro-American. We live in a connected world and none of these candidates seem to have a vision for our place in it, outside of waging moar war and being dominant I'm looking for a candidate with some statesmanship but not finding one. Perhaps mine is an old view for a previous era when we had a government.

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I am sensing some kind of crude pattern here.

I do like what Trump is doing and Carson's recent comments on the 2nd Amendment have turned my head.

As far as DT goes, as long as both sides are attacking him then he's doing something right. But I don't believe one man can change the direction of the behemoth. It's been heading toward the world's biggest iceberg since about 1913.

The iceberg is definitely in sight.
