"The Deep State Needs To Worry About The Citizens It Is Screwing With"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Howard Kunstler via Kunstler.com,

Apropos of the recent Roseburg, Oregon, school massacre that left nine dead, President Obama said, “we’re going to have to come together and stop these things from happening.” That’s an understandable sentiment, and the president has to say something, after all. But within the context of how life is lived in this country these days, we’re not going to stop these things from happening.

And what is that context? A nation physically arranged on-the-ground to produce maximum loneliness, arranged economically to produce maximum anxiety, and disposed socially to produce maximum alienation. Really, everything in the once vaunted American way of life slouches in the direction of depression, rage, violence, and death.

This begs the question about guns. I believe it should be harder to buy guns. I believe certain weapons-of-war, such as assault rifles, should not be sold in the civilian market. But I also believe that the evolution of our Deep State — the collusion of a corrupt corporate oligarchy with an overbearing police and surveillance apparatus — is such a threat to liberty and decency that the public needs to be armed in defense of it. The Deep State needs to worry about the citizens it is fucking with.

The laws on gun sales range from ridiculously lax in many states to onerous in a few. Yet the most stringent, Connecticut, (rated “A” by the Brady Campaign org), was the site of the most horrific massacre of recent times so far, the 2012 Sandy Hook School shooting. The handgun law in New York City is the most extreme in the nation — limiting possession only to police and a few other very special categories of citizens. But it took the “stop-and-frisk” policy to really shake the weapons out of the gang-banging demographic. And now that Mayor Bill deBlasio has deemed that “racist,” gang-banging murders are going up again.

Which leads to a consideration that there is already such a fantastic arsenal of weapons loose in this country that attempts to regulate them would be an exercise in futility - it would only stimulate brisker underground trafficking in the existing supply.

What concerns me more than the gun issue per se is the extraordinary violence-saturated, pornified culture of young men driven crazy by failure, loneliness, grievance, and anger. More and more, there are no parameters for the normal expression of masculine behavior in America — for instance, taking pride in doing something well, or becoming a good candidate for marriage. The lower classes have almost no vocational domain for the normal enactments of manhood, and one of the few left is the army, where they are overtly trained to be killers.

Much of what used to be the working class is now an idle class that can only dream of what it means to be a man and they are bombarded with the most sordid pre-packaged media dreams in the form of video games based on homicide, the narcissistic power fantasies of movies, TV, and professional sports, and the frustrating tauntings of free porn. The last thing they’re able to do is form families. All of this operates in conditions where there are no normal models of male authority, especially fathers and bosses, to regulate the impulse control of young men - and teach them to regulate it themselves.

The physical setting of American life composed of a failing suburban sprawl pattern for daily life - the perfect set-up for making community impossible - obliterates the secondary layer of socialization beyond the family. This is life in the strip-mall wilderness of our country, which has gotten to be most of where people live. Imagine a society without families and real communities and wave your flag over that.

President Obama and whatever else passes for authority in America these days won’t even talk about that. They don’t have a vocabulary for it. They don’t understand how it works and what it’s doing to the nation. Many of the parts and modules of it make up what’s left of our foundering economy: junk food, pointless and endless motoring, television. We’re not going to do anything about it. The killing and the mayhem will continue through the process of economic collapse that we have entered. And when we reach the destination of all that, probably something medieval or feudal in make-up, it will be possible once again for boys to develop into men instead of monsters.

our Deep State ... is such a threat to liberty and decency that the public needs to be armed in defense of it.

And it is exactly those modern "assault" weapons we will need to reclaim our lost liberty.  Moron.

THE state of war is a state of enmity and destruction: and therefore declaring by word or action, not a passionate and hasty, but a sedate settled design upon another man's life, puts him in a state of war with him against whom he has declared such an intention, and so has exposed his life to the other's power to be taken away by him, or any one that joins with him in his defence, and espouses his quarrel; it being reasonable and just, I should have a right to destroy that which threatens me with destruction: for, by the fundamental law of nature, man being to be preserved as much as possible, when all cannot be preserved, the safety of the innocent is to be preferred: and one may destroy a man who makes war upon him, or has discovered an enmity to his being, for the same reason that he may kill a wolf or a lion; because such men are not under the ties of the common law of reason, have no other rule, but that of force and violence, and so may be treated as beasts of prey, those dangerous and noxious creatures, that will be sure to destroy him whenever he falls into their power.  - Locke

The author's heart is likely in the right place but I stopped reading at "weapons of war" and "assault rifles."  He doesn't know when he's been duped. He probably thinks that "assault rifle" is the proper term for anything scary looking and that ar-15 stands for "assault rifle 15." We need less morons who flap their lips about firearms.

For all the sense Kunstler makes — and he makes a lot of it — at the end of the day, he's just another statist who wants the powers that be to do his bidding rather than someone else's.

Meaning that he, like most everyone else, will continue to support tyranny by voting in a "democracy's" bogus "elections."

Others have long known better:

"If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal."

Also useful is a tool designed to place large holes in tin cans, perhaps a third of an inch or so in diameter, lots of them, and in a very short period of time, and at quite long ranges.

But I would never own an "assault rifle".  Their ownership must be discouraged, particularly among people who wear uniforms.

Banning private ownership of new full auto "assault weapons" was accomplished in 1986 and is just the first step to total confiscation.  The conservative god Ronald Reagan signed that prohibition into law.  That law, the Gun Control Act of 1986, along with the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Gun Control Act of 1968, are all prima facie unconstitutional and should be repealed.

I believe it should be harder to buy guns. I believe certain weapons-of-war, such as assault rifles, should not be sold in the civilian market.

I stopped reading Howard's left wing bullshit as soon as I got to these sentences . . . . what an asshole.

For Howard's information, the last year that the FBI published data on murders in the USA (2011) the use of rifles accounted for only about 325 of the approximate 8,500 murders comitted by firearms (around 4%).  So my question to him would be; "What's the real reason you don't want people to have high powered firearms?".

Also there's this:

Yet the most stringent, Connecticut, (rated “A” by the Brady Campaign org), was the site of the most horrific massacre of recent times so far, the 2012 Sandy Hook School shooting.

Yeah right, there was a mass shooting at Sandy Hook.  Anyone care to provide incontrovertible evidence of that?  People have been asking for BASIC evidence that Sandy Hook took place as advertised yet none has been produced to date . . . keep believing the bullshit people.

Real good question.

The bona fide criminal element is obsessesd with easily concealable HANDGUNS... even though they are too stupid to understand that they are designed to be held in a vertical position when fired they are NOT SO STUPID as to walk around the hood with an AR-15

P.S. If anyone doesn't understand what happened at Sandy Hook you may just want to take a little time to check into that...

but his real point was the next and contrasting idea: "I also believe that the evolution of our Deep State — the collusion of a corrupt corporate oligarchy with an overbearing police and surveillance apparatus — is such a threat to liberty and decency that the public needs to be armed in defense of it. The Deep State needs to worry about the citizens it is fucking with."

Anyone can go the the FBI website for Connecticut and check the murder stats.

Newtown-NONE, ZERO, NADA, ZILCH...100% Horseshit.

Pretty funny (NOT) how CNN, FOX, MSNBC, etc. can't/won't do this same thing.  As I said before, keep believing the bullshit people.

One of the big giveaways that Sandy Hook was a complete hoax was the big lighted alpha/numeric traffic sign they had at the site that said something to the effect; "Make sure you sign in and get your ID badges . . " - I'm sure they have these signs on hand in the case of "mass shootings" just so people know what to do.

The other one is the videos of the people going out the back door of the fire station next door, walking around the building and into the entrance and out the back door again . . . to make it look like there was a lot of people there - truly pitiful and disgusting.

This is exactly the sort of schizophrenic thinking induced in people to make their common sense statements sound insane when they try to speak out.  The framework of the argument was set before Kunstler ever had his first thought on the topic, and now he is trying to work within that framework while he argues for dismantling it.

He's off the left-wing deep end on this one. (And assault weapons, really? I though he liked statistics and AWs are beaten (pardon the pun) by 2x4s in the US murder stats.)

But I digess. The real joke is " or becoming a good candidate for marriage."

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but "good marriage candidates" is code for guys that will get fucked (in the bad way.) Any young man that's asked me I tell to practice solid birth control (e.g. don't trust her) and don't get married before 35. He's holding this up as something admirable when this is the exact thing the system uses to exploit the productive for the benefit of the welfare class. Screw that.

You want real advice, young men? Save like you've never saved before, hide that freaking money like your life depends on it (it does), live like you're the poorest person in your neighborhood and then get the fuck out of the city, the system, and this society once you can. If you're productive there's a line of vampires dressed as politicians, cops, and pretty girls all waiting to take every last dime you have.

Sorry, this has nothing to do with a societal take-down by a shadowy cabal. The effort to change things started after WW2 with corporations (having something to sell) wanting women to start their own careers and households. There had been taboos about that since the dawn of time, but the War years broke some of that down, and corporate America jumped at the chance. Corporate America could suddenly sell twice as many business suits, commute cars, houses, home appliances, vacations and psychotherapy when both women and men were in the workplace and living similar kinds of lives. They could also get women to fund their own retirement accounts (more money to play with) open their own savings accounts (more money to play with) and buy their own stocks (more money to play with --- and more fees).

Women used to have to ask their husbands for money, which husbands usually did not give a shit that she wanted a new dress the old one was fine. Once she had her own job she could buy all the crap she wanted to, which as we all know is tons of crap. Including things men don't go in for much, including weekly sessions at the hair salon, $500 hand bags, $300 shoes by the dozens, and the like. Managing the apparel needs of a working female costs a fortune.

All into the pockets of corporate America.

Men were just a casualty of all that. yes it was very important to destroy men in the eyes of women, otherwise women wouldn't feel like they could go it alone, but this was just a sly corporate message that men had nothing on women, you have your own cigarette now, and go shopping.

Paragraphs 6 and 7...the author gets a gold star.

But does the author realize that this isn't just a sociological thing, that it is based in the very biology of our species? There IS no 'cure', and can be none without a complete overhaul of, well, everything.

The odds of that are really not very good. But regardless of how we try to tweak this and that in response to problems as they occur, the fact remains that the Brave New World we seem headed for is simply NOT compatible with the needs of our species. Globalization requires a mass accommodation to authority that we are just not hard-wired to DO. And it requires that many, many people accept subservient roles...like all those young men. Which they are NEVER, EVER going to do!! EVER!! It's in their NATURE to seek to carve out a 'territory' for themselves, either physically or socially. Testosterone and adrenaline say so, thwart that and you have a very frustrated individual. The military and police forces can only do so much for these guys.

So when society has no need or place for them anymore, and has no acceptable 'beta' roles for all the failed 'alphas', those young men 'go Viking'. They strike out and find new places where they CAN realize their potential. But these days you've got a huge and growing population of Vikings with no boats. And even if you give 'em one, there are no new lands left to conquer anyway, so where are they gonna go?

They'll just stay home and tear up all YOUR shit, and take YOU out of the way to take YOUR spot. That's how nature works, and that is what is at the base of so many of our problems...the inability to accept that, despite all of our civilized veneer, we are biologically ANIMALS hard-wired to respond and adapt to our environments.

Globalization leads to the hubris of the Tower of Babel. Eventually we all revert to our native tongues, and the unity is lost and we all end up screaming at each other, not understanding or being understood.

In our case, it will lead to increased nationalism, more outlier groups creating havoc, scores of young men detonating at random and taking scores more with them, more armed conflicts, more brutal security responses, etc. We aren't meant to be one big, happy, global "family", with a few at the top running everything and all the rest of us stepping in line. There aren't enough 'places' at the top of the NWO for all the ones whose natures compel them to rise, and you'll never domesticate them to settle for anything less.

Nobody is more of a second amendment absolutist than I am.  But the idea that "we the people" could ever mount a successful armed uprising against the most powerful armed force in human history is absurd in the extreme.  As Ron Paul pointed out, the only truly successful revolutions are those of ideas.  Armed revolution for the sake of armed revolution gets you the French Revolution, any number of third world coups, and pure chaos.

I also point out that the people who always scream the loudest about using their guns to "defend against the State" are always the ones who will thank the troops for their service and vociferously defend the worst cops to any extreme.  The idea that such people would ever shoot those police and military, who they fellate so vehemently, in the course of a revolution is laughable.
