Putin Calls US, Allies "Oatmeal Heads" On Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

To be sure, there are a lot of absurd things about what Washington has done and is currently doing in Syria.

There’s the support for Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for instance, who has used ISIS as an excuse to wage war on his own people. Then there are the various efforts to arm and train a hodgepodge of different anti-regime rebel groups (with more embarrassing results each and every time). And just yesterday we learned that the best idea the Pentagon can come up with now is to literally paradrop “50 tons” of ammo on pallets into the middle of the desert and hope the “right” people pick it up.

Of course when it comes to absurd outcomes in Syria, it’s difficult to top the fact that at some point - and you don’t have to go full-conspiracy theory to believe this anymore - either the West or else Qatar and Saudi Arabia provided some type of assistance to ISIS, which then proceeded to metamorphose into white basketball shoe-wearing, black flag-waving, sword-wielding desert bandits hell bent on establishing a medieval caliphate.

Having said all of that, things took an even more surreal turn late last month when, after Russia stormed in via Latakia and started bombing anti-regime targets, Washington was forced to claim that somehow, Moscow’s efforts would be detrimental to the war on terror.

To be sure, there really wasn’t much else the US could say. After all, you can’t simply come out and say “well, we need to keep ISIS around actually and we’d much rather them then Putin and Assad, so no, we’re not going to help the Russians fight terror.” The only possible spin to avoid blowing the whole charade up was to claim that somehow, The Kremlin is helping terrorists by killing them (and not in the whole 72 virgins kind of way).

Now as we’ve said before, Putin is there (along with Iran) to shore up Assad. There’s no question about that and Moscow hasn’t been shy about saying it. But at the end of the day, when you are trying to wipe out your friend’s enemies and some of those enemies are terrorists, well then, you are fighting a war on terror by default and that’s not good for terrorists by definition. By denying this, the US is effectively arguing against a tautology which is never a good idea, and we’re running out of ways to describe the ridiculousness of it.

Fortunately, Vladimir Putin is not running out of colorful descriptors.

Here’s Bloomberg with some amusing excerpts from a speech he gave at an annual conference organized by VTB Capital in Moscow on Tuesday:

Some of Russia’s international partners have “oatmeal in their heads” because they don’t understand clearly that its military campaign in Syria seeks to help the fight against terrorism, President Vladimir Putin said.

Russia notified the U.S. and the European Union in advance “out of respect” that it intended to begin airstrikes against Islamic State and other militants in Syria, Putin said at an annual conference organized by VTB Capital in Moscow on Tuesday. This showed Russia’s ready to cooperate on Syria, while nobody ever warned the authorities in Moscow about their operations, he said.

Putin’s colorful phrase, normally used to describe someone as confused, to characterize relations with the U.S. and its allies on Syria comes amid deep tensions over the Russian bombing campaign and cruise-missile strikes that began Sept. 30. The EU demanded on Monday that Russia stop targeting moderate groups opposed to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter warned that Russia’s actions “will have consequences” and the bombing “will only inflame” Syria’s four-year civil war.

Russia “received no answer” when it asked its international partners to provide information on terrorist targets in Syria, or to say at least where its planes shouldn’t bomb, Putin said. “It’s not a joke, I’m not making any of this up,” he said.

And while the US insists on says things like this (out just hours ago):

EARNEST: SOME RUSSIAN STRIKES IN SYRIA ARE HELPING ISLAMIC STATE

Put makes a more logical argument. Namely that when one drops 50 tons of ammo from the sky into the most dangerous place on earth, there’s absolutely no way to know for sure where it will ultimately end up:

U.S. air drops of weapons and ammunition intended for the Syrian Free Army, which is fighting Assad’s regime, could end up in the hands of Islamic State instead, Putin said.

Yes, they might “end up in the hands of Islamic State” which we’re sure wasn’t what Washington had in mind. Oh ... wait...

The EUke military did not have those types of weapons.  The plane was too high for their shoulder fired missiles.  So, right after the event the WUke's claimed that the EUke's had captured some of their truck based missiles and had fired them to shoot down the plane.

What is incomplete is how the plane was hit and then turned.  And then was reportedly hit again.  Russia released some satelite images that show a plane (WUke) firing missiles at the plane.  That is what I recall.  Others can clarify or show were the memory is incorrect.

This info was likely released due to concern that Russia was about to release more damning infomation.  The Dutch wanted to help get ahead of the game to paint the picture.

That image later proved to be totally fake. Not only was it made in a graphics editor, it was also incorrect from physics perspective, in a sense that in order to capture such an image, a satellite flying over it would have to be about 300-600 feet above the plane, which is of course impossible, satellites do not orbit the Earth at such low altitudes.  What Russian military did release was radar data. By now, judging by how slow and unprofessional the investigation was, judging by what parties were conducting it, and more importantly, what parties were excluded from the investigation, it should be clear that the incident was a either a false flag or a terrible mistake by the Ukrainian military.

The systems were not retired, it was a specific type of rocket, the 9M38, which was retired in 2011 according to Almaz-Antei, the company which designed and produced the rocket and probably the radar used in BUK missile system and which claims that specifically that type of rocket was used to down the 777. They said that the aforementioned rocket was first put into service in the Soviet Union in 1986, and that it has a shelf life of 25 years, therefore it was retired in 2011.

THe AngloZionists don't know what the Russians have on the MH17 incident other than the low level civilian radar info released publicly. Given Russia's ability to get the SU-25s etc into Syria without anyone noticing, and the Kalibr cruiose missile surprise, they must be feeling very, very nervous about Russia's capabilities. I suspect the AngloZionists are preparing to throw Ukraine under the bus to avoid being implicated themselves in the coverup.

For more than two decades the politicians and bureaucrats, holding elected and appointed offices, in Washington have uniformly despised military service and wouldn't be caught dead wearing a real uniform in the U. S. Armed Forces. [They had "better" things to do for their lives than serving in the military, to quote one former V. P.]. They uniformly lack the personal military experience, to create the necessary context needed for understanding, to judge the desirability of diplomacy where the use of military force is the last resort, not the first resort.

Everything that ISIS has done outside of Syria has fell in line with the US wishlist; unity governments in Iraq and Libya (getting there), Turkey pulled into the conflict and killing Kurds while buying ISIS oil while the US gets it's huge prefabricated base, and then down to jordan to pull them into the war too with some poor pilot getting toasted ...which means the US now has syria surrounded!! To much of a coincidence? No wonder the US has called ISIS a "strategic asset".

SYRIA is not "over" yet.

The Russian propaganda machine is kicking into high gear.  But we have not seen the response of the Sunnis (i.e. Saudis) who are probably furious.  And we have not seen the response of the Israelis, who lost 'their airspace' over Syria.  And we have not yet seen what Iran plans to do with ground troops.

This quagmire is only just warming up.

The Greater Syrian War is certainly not "over" ..

Working against Putin and Iran - you've got the Anglo-American alliance, the Saudis and Israel.  Whatever is really going to happen, we have not seen the end of this yet.

WHAT it does mean ... is that a new flow of sophisticated weapons is going to start entering Syia.  and some of these weapons will make it to ISIS, that is inevitable.

https://www.rt.com/news/318531-mh17-experiment-almaz-antey/

Here's the video of the experiment.
https://youtu.be/EU-weRmf29c

The MH-17 shotdown by BUK-M1. Almaz-Antey have long discountinued this model. Russian troops use BUK-M2. It is a known fact. Even in the western military site.
http://www.army-technology.com/projects/buk-m2e-air-defence-missile-system/

Russian troops use this new BUK-M2 back in 2008. You can check this if you have the DU (depleted uraniums) fragmented casing, and test them with isotopes methodes. Which for some reasons, the dutch teams refused to do.

- - -

Again. Russian haters fails to mentioned this.

As of the questions of:
1. Why the ATC not closing the route?
2. Why divert that MH-17 to that routes, while previous planes before MH-17, directed to other southern routes?
3. Where is the traffic conversations records between the ATC and the MH17?
4. Where is the radar plot of the MH17?
5. Where is the sworn testimonies from the ATC guy in charge of taking care the MH17?

There are alot of questions unanswered. And yet the dutch investigation still release the report.

Why??

good questions.  why the report? - So companies and citizens can claim financial damages.  you seem to be implying that the BUK-M1 could have been sold on the black market, or provided by clandestine means.  By who? To who?  Those are questions that a lot of people hoped would be answered.

The Buk left some nice t-shaped holes in the test fusilage.

None of those were witnessed on MH-17 wreckage and the holes were primarily round. The missile that hit was closer than the suspended Buk they were testing and was likely an air to air weapon. You can see the burn marks on MH-17 wreckage...

I'll put this out there-- What will happen when Russia starts to lose huge numbers of planes and helicoptors to American made and supplied missiles? This is NOT the Russian invasion of Afghanistan.

Manpad systems like those used in Afghanistan against the Soviets don't have the altitude capability to seep into the fight.  The on-the-ground reports from the locals state Russian aircraft flying too high to be seen.  Manpads, at least the generation I'm familiar with, does not punch above 20,000 ft or so.  Ruskies are probably above 36,000.

The altitude is a problem for those stingers to hit the jets which are flying above 30000 ft. But if you notice, the Russians are flying their Hinds at very low altitudes. That is because IR (heat seeking) manpads notoriously do not acquire targets quickly. By flying low, the Hinds are basically reducing the stingers to RPG's as they are too low to acquire. The Hinds also have very sophisticated jamming capabilities.
Even though the latest generation stingers have UV acquisition and line of sight, I doubt the MIC would hand these over to Al-Qaeda. But you never know.
With the ground force in close proximity, setting off a manpad immediately gives up your position for reply fire. So, really firing a manpad on that battlefield is a suicide mission.

Your assertion implies that Russians have no intelligence and surveillance capabilities. Who and how is going to supply those missiles? Russians already have eyes and ears over Syria, I don't think a needle can fall from the sky without them knowing.
Check this link https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2015/10/soviet_spying_o.html
The Soviets spied on US embassy in Moscow and US Consulate in (then) Leningrad for years. Check the NSA file documenting the story. If there was one thing that Soviet communists got right, then it was secret police and intelligence, and Russia inherited all that, Putin himself was a KGB operative, and I believe he only strengthened Russia's spying and intelligence gathering capabilities.

Oatmeal in their heads? That's a pretty piss-poor insult if you ask me...or maybe it loses something in the translation.

I would have gone with something like, "Their mothers should have eaten them while their heads were still soft", said in a clipped tone while glaring into the camera...That's pretty much going to sound the same in any language, and the meaning and symbolism clear. While some may not even know what oatmeal IS and thus miss the 'sludgy-brain' metaphor, people all over the globe are familiar with small mammal mothers who eat their own young shortly after birth, usually because there's something wrong with them. Metaphors only work when everyone is familiar with them, so one MUST use them with care so they aren't incomprehensible, or worse.

Well, if Mr. Putin ever needs a speech writer, I just want to let him know I am available. I can DEFINITELY put something together that will retain its venomous tone no matter WHAT language you translate it into, a useful skill in a global society.

And my fees are very reasonable. And I'm bored. Obviously.

I'm not the biggest fan of Russia, which is why this whole debacle breaks my heart.

But over time, when all the pieces fall together about how and whom was involved in the incorporation of "ISIS/ISIL" it is be necessary to conclude that that operation was in fact a complete pys-op directed against the American People.

This is no different than these various "Color Revolutions" that creep across the battle-space - Rose, Orange, Tulip, Maidan, Cedar, Yellow - and now add the "Black Flag" psy-op against Joe and Jane Six-pack in Anytown USA.

I know there's a hodgepodge of alphabet soup agencies that troll ZH.

Who benefits from this entire exercise?

When Obama takes to the podium to give us all another lecture about American/his exceptionalism on foreign policy or domestic gun grabbing consider the Hope and Change that has rained down from drones killing countless Sandy Hooks of non-combatants across entire continents and then look at this fiasco.

either the West or else Qatar and Saudi Arabia provided some type of assistance to ISIS

ISIS is a curious bunch. Do you remember how they stormed upon the scene from total non-existence? From a rag tag bunch of hangers on to the growing radical elements coming to Syria to fight Jihad against a secular government, they somehow morphed into a large, 30K plus force fully equipped with vechicles, TOW anti tank missiles, Humvees, Western Uniform Kit, all sorts of mortars, heavy Machine Guns, 23 MM anti aircraft guns, then tanks and IFV's.

How we wonder does a magical event like ISIS appearing from nowhere happen. USA says they never armed them, and are blood enemies to them. Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra were Jihadist Slackers compared to ISIS. Suddenly the most radical Islamists on earth are everywhere in Iraq and Syria. Turkey claims ignorance. The Gulf States don't know them! So then, what to fuck is going on?

Washington has gone to war with ISIS, claiming to run round the clock bombing raids for well over 1 year, yet ISIS not only held all it's postions, but gained land and more arms, expanded to 40-50K fighters. Recruited well over 5 thousands of Jihadist from Eruope. Nations like the UK contributed several thousand. Meanwhile the Cameron government couldn't or worldn't stem the flow of Britains to ISIS in Turkey.

I maintain I can point to where this magical army came from. I suggest one investigate the secret black projects of the CIA. I bet you will find ISIS right there, inside an American CIA black ops program that spends billions of dollars off the books. ISIS was armed, funded, trained, transported and protected diplomatically and legally by someone!

Here is mu short list of ISIS creators.

Mossad

CIA

MI6

Saudi Intelligence.

Now we have the event of the USA, UK, Saudi and Turkey demanding that Russia cease air strikes on ISIS and other Islamic Jihadists in Syria. Those who defend ISIS now, are most likely those who created them in the first place. That is basic logic!

BEIRUT – The former head of an elite unit in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as well as another top general have been killed in Syria, days after one of the country’s leading officers was killed in the war-torn country.

“General Farshad Hasounizad, defender of the Sayyeda Zeinab Shrine and former commander of the Saberin Brigade, was killed in Syria,” a reporter in the state-controlled Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) wrote

Hassan Shemshadi also posted that Hamid Mokhtarband had been killed in Syria, explaining that the officer was the former chief-of-staff of the 1st Brigade in Ahvaz, in reference to the 1st Brigade of Iran’s crack 92nd Armored Division, which is considered the country’s top armored unit.
