"A Generation In Crisis" - The World Needs 5 Million Jobs/Month To Stymie Youth Extremism

Tyler Durden's picture

For over 3 years we have pointed out that the surging youth unemployment was Europe's (if not the world's) scariest chart, because the last thing Europe needs is a discontented, disenfranchised, and devoid of hope youth roving the streets with nothing to do, easily susceptible to extremist and xenophobic tendencies: after all, it must be "someone's" fault that there are no job opportunities for anyone. Well, as Bloomberg reports, The World Bank has an unsettling message for young people around the globe: unless we create 5 million jobs a month, the situation is going to get worse.

As The World Bank notes, Unemployment in any form is a drag on an economy and society.

It undercuts productivity, spending, and investment, stunting national growth. It contributes to inequality and spurs social tension. Joblessness and inactivity and the failure to tap into the economic aspirations and resources of young people carry an even higher price.

As prospects dwindle, many face social exclusion, or see their emotional, mental, or physical health deteriorate.

...

Young people account for roughly 40 percent of the world’s unemployed and are up to four times more likely to be unemployed than adults.

...

When young people are not fully participating in the labor force or are NEETs, governments forgo tax revenue and incur the cost of social safety nets, unemployment benefits and insurances, and lost  roductivity. Businesses risk losing a generation of consumers. Social costs are ever mounting as well. The Arab Spring and subsequent youth-led uprisings in many countries, along with the rise of economic insurgency and youth extremism, demand that we explore the links between economic participation, inequality, and community security, crime, and national fragility through a lens focused on youth. What we see is a generation in economic crisis.

Over the next decade, a billion more young people will enter the job market—and only 40 percent are expected to be able to enter jobs that currently exist. The global economy will need to create 600 million jobs over the next 10 years: that’s 5 million jobs each month simply to keep employment rates constant.

In other words, even with that 'growth' we are going nowhere!!

As Bloomberg reports,

The youngest workers have been hit hardest by the financial crisis and the global recession of the last decade because they often held the temporary jobs, which offer less protection. The youth unemployment rate is projected to be 13.1 percent in 2015, compared with 4.5 percent for adults, according to the ILO.

Global employers are looking not only for technical and academic skills, but also such qualities as being open, responsible or organized, ...Young workers are often either overqualified or underqualified for their jobs, it said.

"In emerging economies that are progressively more service-based, employers find a workforce population that lacks necessary skills," the report said. "Elsewhere, the problem is that many of the unemployed are highly educated but the market demands different competencies or more technical or vocational skills."

At stake is the well-being of the entire global economy. Without an income, millions of young people slump into poverty. By delaying their entry into the workforce or accepting low-paying jobs, many limit their lifetime earning potential. When young people don't work, governments don't get the tax revenue and businesses fail to gain customers.

"Social costs are ever mounting as well," the report said, citing youth-led uprisings in many Arab countries and the rise of economic insurgency and youth extremism. "What we see is a generation in economic crisis."

I do not want to be a slave for money to go from day to day just doing repetitive tasks, WHAT MY GENERATION NEEDS IS FREEDOM FROM THIS POLITICAL CONTROL OF THE POPULATION.

WE ARE FORCED TO CONSUME PRODUCTS TILL DEATH AND WE DO NOT BRING THAT SHIT WITH US AFTER WE DIE

I DONT WANT ANY OF IT. NO ONE MY AGE WANTS ANY OF IT WE ARE PISSED.

I WANT TRUE FREEDOM WHERE PEOPLE DO WHAT THEY LOVE AND GET PRAISED FOR WHAT THEY LOVE, NOT NEO SLAVERY/FEUDALISM

LET THE ROBOTS TAKE THEIR WORK, WE NEED PEOPLE DOING WHAT THEY WANT IN SOCIETY.

I AM NOT EVEN GOING TO FIGHT IN THIS CRISIS

"The Third World War must be fomented by taking advantage of the differences caused by the "agentur" of the "Illuminati" between the political Zionists and the leaders of Islamic World. The war must be conducted in such a way that Islam (the Moslem Arabic World) and political Zionism (the State of Israel) mutually destroy each other. Meanwhile the other nations, once more divided on this issue will be constrained to fight to the point of complete physical, moral, spiritual and economical exhaustion…We shall unleash the Nihilists and the atheists, and we shall provoke a formidable social cataclysm which in all its horror will show clearly to the nations the effect of absolute atheism, origin of savagery and of the most bloody turmoil. Then everywhere, the citizens, obliged to defend themselves against the world minority of revolutionaries, will exterminate those destroyers of civilization, and the multitude, disillusioned with Christianity, whose deistic spirits will from that moment be without compass or direction, anxious for an ideal, but without knowing where to render its adoration, will receive the true light through the universal manifestation of the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public view. This manifestation will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow the destruction of Christianity and atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time." 4

Even if every baby boomer ever born went poof today, you got bigger problems than us - like a world population that went from less than 2 billion when I was a kid to bumping 6 or 7 billion souls on the rock today.

Boomers all die, you got non existent skilled trades propping up your utopian society.

Try building a house, running a factory, growing food, being a productive member of society - all that goes away, and you gotta text your whining to a buddy as you slowly expire based on a life of useless pursuit having nothing to do with surviving in the real world.

Start thinking about all of the Pan Asian, Middle Eastern, and African birth rate countries that are gonna eat your lunch, dipshit.

Boomers are the most entitled, selfish self serving generation. They gutted a economy in the 70s and undermined the protections their parents put into place:gold standard, medical system, pensions, protective trade -- all to pull a profit up quicker.

Now in retirement they collect SS WHILE working jobs that should go to younger people all while living in enriched real estate while nobody out of college can buy a house in a decent city.

If you're under 40 you're either fortunate or fuc#@d

Ghandi - that's like saying the Pope is responsible for every fuck up in the Roman Castholic Church for the last 2000 years.

Less than one tenth of one percent of the world's population are the psychotics from all generations that boot fucked the rest of the world to get what they want - boomers have fuck all to do with it, relatively speaking.

In retirement, SOME boomers collect a shit pension based on paying into the system for 45 - 50 years. Most don't get shit. Any folks close to retirement are smart enough to knowe in all probability, they will never see a fucking dime of social security payments.

As for buying a house, talk to the Chinese, indian, and Russian immigrants who come here, see our low real estate prices, and buy, buy, buy, pushing market demand and value through the roof.

Population growth and immigration, along with the idea that life in the country sucks, has contributed to skyrocketing demand in urban settings for any housing.

Fuck me running, even a shack in North Dakota went sky high in price during the oil fracking boom. Supply and demand, not boomer did that .

If you are an elite regardless of generational origin, you will be okay.

If you are a mamber of the other 99.999999 % , you are fucked.

Um, STUPID.  STUPID!!!  Boomer.

The boomers are the ones who made up of 81% of Subprime flippers.

The EB-5 pushed foreign investors to buy houses instead of stock in growing good businesses.  Remember Joop Bollen and how he handled foreign investments in beef in South Dakota?  He's a boomer so of course he fucked THAT up, like Clinton fucked up the Multilateral Investment AGreement between the US and China circa 1995.

The boomers fucked up the world economy so petrodollars can finance bank liquidity to prop up bubbles, specifically to price everyone out of upward mobility- except for blacks and latinos who get aid at the expense of those who were totally fucked by your generations' stupidity.

"non-materialistic" Draft Dodging beatniks sent young adults their stupid oil wars FOR A SURVIVAL JOB so you can afford to price them and everyone else out of not just upward mobility, but SURVIVAL.

Boomers can't do fucking math.

Boomers don't understand basic math and interest rates.

Boomers recreated the S&L Scandal with the Subprime Scandal.

Boomer voting majority gave us Bush.

Boomers were too fucking stupid to quality control Big Pharma and Big Agra- so the rest of us has to clean up your mess when we were sickened by your blind sighted consumership- only if we can get past the hurdle of every ugly stupid caucasian American baby boomer tweaker trash and their botox "for migraines".

Boomers did not build the tech sector, Gen X did.

Boomers did not embrace tolerance and diversity in the workplace, Gen X did.

Boomers act like the victim when they did drugs, underachieved and compensated by robbing people with YOUR elected idiots.

The baby boomers are the voting and fiscal majority.

YES IT IS YOUR FAULT.  YOU ARE ONLY VICTIM TO YOUR OWN STUPIDITY.

If boomers were the voting and fiscal majority, i guess they voted for tolerance and diversity in the workplaces they created.

We kept the previous generation of ruling psychotics from destroying the entire planet 33 times over with nuclear weapons.

All you gotta do is clean up Monsanto and Big Pharma.

Suck my youthly dick.

Please expound more on these incredible generational skills these baby boomers have, I'd like the laughs. Building a house? Hispanics, blacks, and young whites build houses, while the Baby Boomer's sit in the truck and accidently post porn to the Facebook because their fingers are to fucking fat to miss the "share" button on Pornhub. Do you really believe that the overweight, 35 year smoker is going to be out on the job site for construction management and quality control? Not faster than your ass will eat a fucking banana. Growing food? Your generation seems to not want to undertake the small bit of scientific fact finding to understand that GMO foods fuck with everything, not to mention the implications on personal property rights, ask Monsanto. Running a factory? Ha. How can you run a factory when you can't even create an Excel spreadsheet.

Just fuckin' die with your politicians that you and your generation have consistently placed in power over the past 30 years. To big of pussies to fight in Vietnam, but to big of pussies to change anything at home. Thats a whole lotta pussy to make up for. Just remember, when your wife says she's "out with the girls", shes getting railed by some 25 year old who isn't overweight and generationally sorry for themselves.

Yeah, you will make great cannon fodder for the powers that be in the next set of generation wars, coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

By the way, I don't smoke, am not overweight, been married for 35 years, no porn, no TV period.

I grow organic real food, can build a house from dirt on up, understand flow dynamics, personnel management, demolitions, and manage sub MOA at 600 yards.

Not generational sorry either.

Just pissed off totally at the slimy motherfuckers that have co-opted this country, and used propaganda to set all demographic groups against each other to all die so they can pick up the pieces and hand tham off to their offspring.

Obviously you buy right into the narrative - congratulations.

Now, wake the fuck up, and realize thew world is composed of light, and darkness, generationally blind in that regard.

Some of your best allies may be boomers who got it right. Some of your worst enemies may be millenials who get it wrong.

Choose wisely.

Boomers only boomed because central banks could operate a higher level of inflation and growth giving the return, not lie Yellen who cannot raise rates or induce the level of growth.

Kids of today, at 0% growth are fucked because inflation remaining at 0% (if you can beleive that) they will continually fall behind.

Boomers were lucky is all in the time they lived the global economy not being so adavanced allowed a higher level of return and there was more in the economy people had a chance to grab a decent wedge. That is all that happened, blame boomers, blame the central bank forced inflation policy phase that has now ended!

HISTORICALLY A SIGN.

My mum from an old time of wages and incomes screeches "% interest wage increases" was a sign way back then and how without it and the increased level of inflation central banks were going to implement people would have been falling behind 40 years ago. They just deferred the problem to today, but out of money and time now.

Corporate Feudulism.. they know fully well what their doing. It doesn't look good because people aren't fighting back against it. You got billions of souls on this planet that just follow the few naked monkies that only think about themselves anyways, thats always the perfect ingredient for disaster, and its a created disaster too, just so they can continue to feed the beast, with the problem and offer solution tibit. That we let ourselves be led by bloodlines that span hunderds of years, and by kings and queens and olichargs, and politicians that are blood related.. is already proof enough we haven't advanced one bit socially as a species while they play the "classes" game. A game by the way played for over thousands of years too. Anyways, i don't trust the world bank or the IMF. Never before in history has such a similarity existed among the nations of the world in how they structure their political and economic systems.  The globalists have already changed the world in that the daily life of a large chunk of the globe now looks remarkably similar.  Some are richer, a lot more are poorer, but almost all the people of the world are now connected into this "global market", which, because it is run by soulless corporations, is sucking the energy out of everyone, rich and poor alike.

In the rich, the lack of energy manifests as incredible evil in their desperate effort to get more and more of the pie.  In the poor it manifests as giving up and living in true poverty (poor countries) or on the dole (rich countries).  This model is not good for our species.

Trying to blame the ideology (capitalism, socialism, libertarianism, etc) is fine as far as it goes, but the more important thing to understand is who is creating this monster.  The people who are escaping criticism, interestingly enough (aside from the banks), are the corporate leadership.  The bankers are certainly among this group, but the group goes beyond them.  Corporate monstrosities, who have no true legal bond on them (because they are not subject to any one country, operating truly globally), form the skeleton of "modern society".  And those who work tirelessly to maintain the immunity and the power of these entities are at the same time working to ensure that the vast majority of humanity has no dignity.  All they want is customers.  Customers need no independent thought.  Only brand loyalty.

We are being "marketed" to death.

Sofa Papa - I think it all starts with religion - the original lesson of fear and submission. Turn you rbrain off and the invisible master will save you. that's how you breed critical thinking out (and replace it with slavish submission).

Even makreting is based on religion - installing the unsatisfaction with self, panoramic fear and insecurity/irrational competition. All based on un-reality

that's teh elephant in the room (very hard to notice if brainwashed early)

Isolation, and warehousing, of human beings, is the number one form of genocide that the 1% have utilized to kill off the less productive individuals in society. Most people live in human ghettos of intensification so that the developers/Crony Corporatists can capitalize on the suffering. Governments love intensification for the same reasons. Police like it because they don't have an expansive sector to police and costs are kept low on patrolling costs per square mile. In brief, if you pack people into ghettos they will die earlier, get shot, mugged, or knifed, beaten. Add a booze store every city block, and add gangsterism for good measure, and you have a recipe for low life expectancy over all age groups.

Where do you propose millions (billions?) of poorly educated, unworldly, illiterate, and destitute humans live if not in high-density cities?  Must every last square foot of this planet be inhabited by humans and overrun with human infrastructure?

I don't have any solutions, but de-intensifying the world's cities and dispersing their populations into the surrounding countryside is not something I'd support.  Too many people!  Give the flora and fauna a break - humans are devouring this planet like maggots on a chicken carcass.

Therein lies the rub.  What's indubitably best for the individuals -- a less crowded, more natural environment where they can NOT be within arm-swinging distance of a dozen other rabidly frustrated, hormonally-activated humans -- is catastrophic for the Earth as a whole.

Frankly, the only solution is to reduce the human population, and we may have passed the point where that can be done easily by non-replacement. Death has taken a holiday for too long.  Our species didn't evolve to expect EVERY child to grow to reproductive maturity, or EVERY adult to live to crippled old age.  Our society's proportion of the disabled, the diseased, and the dysfunctional non-contributing living is much higher than Mother Nature ever intended.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature equipped us with the expectations that BECAUSE life is rough and not guaranteed, we need to produce and maintain every member of the species that we can so as to always be prepared for the next 50% die-off.  We have not adjusted instinctively or culturally to the need for limits.

Mother nature doesn't give a shit about the percentages of productive members of society, automation allows us to do more with less any way. Preaching social darwinism as a solution is silly, it might improve the stock but it doesn't in and of itself prevent overpopulation. Lack of selective pressure and overpopulation are orthogonal problems.

Eugenics can solve both problems simultaneously.

Sad but true. We couldn't find the moral courage or political will (political science) to institute a global one-child policy ~25 years ago (commie!) and we certianly won't find either to implement what we would require today - a zero-child policy.

I didn't read the actual report but I'll take a guess they don't advise implementing a one child per family birth rate. Pointless to say we need more jobs when those jobs won't ever exist. The reality will be that jobs will shrink significantly each year and the only way to solve that is to decrease the rate of population growth.

The pope still is calling for people to have more babies because he's alarmed by shrinking birth rates in Italy. Most governments say we need increasing birth rates so that younger people's taxes can pay for the increasingly ageing population. Right.

once world youts figure out how to get to the deep web it may be game over.

Well, duh! Peak f***ing everything, now what? In our own country the media demands that people go out and become debt slaves to the bankers to keep them buying crap from China. The media cheers on the fools as we produce millions more unneeded gas-guzzling vehicles to clog to roads and add to pollution. Buy another useless I-Toy and stand on-line for it instead of working. We have created a society that desires handouts and doesn’t even want to work. Give them EBT cards so they can sit on the couch and watch TV all day. Robots are going to destroy millions more jobs. Fast food illegals will soon be gone…you will order from your car and it will drop down a chute. Poor folks the USA aren’t “poor” at all…they all have 10 smart phones, drive BMers, and have a dozen credit cards for purchasing fun stuff. Blacks are buying $1,200 basketball shoes by the dozen. So, they live ten to an apartment. “No job, no girlfriend, no hope!” the Roseburg scumbag shooter.

Soon, the MIC will sense the time is right to start another war…a big war. Its goal will be to rid the world of “excess population” and improve shrinking profits. War jobs pay well; they will exclaim to all. Two decades ago America became “Consumption nation”, driven by Fed-enabled wild reckless loose credit. Keep the party going and kick the can. Now what? Negative rates by January if X-Mas is a big “failure” again?

The situation is totally hopeless at this point. Joe Sixpack will never get off his fat lazy ass and grab a pitchfork. But, the oligarchs have their gold bars and escape plans ready to go, just in case.

Hillary? Sanders? Socialism…OMG, we need Trump to kick ass and get rid of ½ the government and the handouts too.

Not quite true.

Since the 70's this group has been growing covered by unlimited fiat borrowing or so governments thought, throw some cash at it and nobody will notice.

2008 - They ran out of money to throw at it when the level of debt in the system reached a maximum.

So now it's a problem and magnified with no cash to hide alot of it ... the problem is the economic situation, with so many underemployed etc. also.

This state of affairs was always going to happen they just managed to hide it for so long as it grew bigger and bigger. Reckon there have been 3 or more lost generations successively getting worse and I do not see why we should consider this genenration anymore important than the 2 that were ignored.

Fix one you need to fix the others also.

tyler thanks for posting this one. I would like to make a comparison between Oz and France in the cost of employing a person.

Oz: Medicare (Basic Health Care)  approx 2.5% of your wage (Numbers from a few years ago)

France (MSA) 23% of your wage (Wage packet from last month)

Both sets of numbers are pre TAX.

The on costs in France to the employer are huge (greater than 50%) and you must employe for minium 35 hours per week.

This is why the youth unemployment is so high, no farmer I know can afford to employ a young worker even if the work is there.

Whatever will the wannabe tax slaves do without a job and a boss to tell them what to do?

Work is good, jobs not so much. Education is good, school not so much. Money is good. Debt is slavery.

Sure, people need money, so say that.

Not, people need jobs or education or, worst of all, government help.

The problem is *not* that there are not enough jobs. The problem is a brainwashed population all trying to get rich the same way, e.g., going to college or  getting some unproductive office job. The result is the jobs chased by the crowd do not pay well enough to pay off the debts accrued for the schools and homes and cars chased by the crowd. Follow the crowd and you will lose.

Low pay and long hours and big debts are big problems but the way to fix that is to refuse low-pay, long hours and debt. People need to resist these rich masters of the universe on an individual level or the system of extraction will divide you against each other and skim every last dime out of your pockets.

Divide and conquer...
