The Humiliation Is Complete: ISIS Fighters Cut Off Beards And Run Away As Russia, Iran Close In
The thing about ragtag groups of militants that display a penchant for extreme violence is that in the absence of serious opposition, they can rack up gains at an alarming pace.
Of course there are plenty of (possibly credible) theories out there, which suggest that some of what you see in the videos released by ISIS is for show and we won’t endeavor to assess the degree to which the group’s brutality is real versus staged, but one thing is clear: regardless of who is funding, training, and/or supporting them, there are obviously fighters on the ground in the Mid-East waving the ISIS flag and committing atrocities in its name.
That works well when it comes to destabilizing fragile states that are already beset with sectarian bickering on the way to claiming large swaths of territory from a defenseless citizenry.
But you can’t intimidate a modern fighter jet by waving around a sword and if you’re a newbie on the Mid-East militant scene, you can’t scare a three decade veteran by beheading a couple of people, which is why if you’re ISIS, the combination of the Russian Air Force and Hezbollah ground troops is absolutely terrifying.
As we documented earlier today, Hezbollah and Iranian troops are advancing on Aleppo and Moscow is backing the offensive from the sky which means that the hodgepodge of anti-regime forces that control Syria’s largest city will almost (and we say "almost" because there are no sure things in war) certainly be routed in a matter of weeks if not days, which would effectively serve to restore the Assad regime in Syria.
After that, the Russian bear and Qasem Soleimani will turn their eyes to the East of the country and at that point, it is game over for ISIS.
Apparently all of the above isn’t completely lost on al-Nusra and Islamic State fighters because if you believe the Russian media (and we’re not saying you should), Sunni extremists are now shaving off their beards and running for their lives. Here’s Sputnik:

Now obviously, these are just pictures of hair on the ground with razors, so that shouldn't be interpreted as anything that even approximates definitive evidence of a full-on ISIS retreat but put yourself in the following situation for a moment. You're a Sunni extremist and your regional and Western backers have just abandoned you. You are now under siege by the Russian Air Force. If you survive the air strikes you will soon have to come face to face with the fiercest, most experienced Shiite militia on the planet and if you somehow manage to survive that, well then you have to fight the Quds Force ("how do you shoot the devil in the back"?).

Without getting to a big fight about religion, and taking into consideration propaganda, and Putin has his dark side, and he is another politician, ulterior motives, all that stuff, but in a larger contextual framework, again, i know the atheist haters of religion in the degraded states of America don't like to focus on these things, *but*, fwiw, Putin has been very supportive of the orthodox christian church in Russia. He has been promoting it, and showing up on Easter Sunday for a photo op. He might be non religious, and not a christian. nobody knows. but based on a lot of things I have heard him say, he thinks a society without morals leads to a lot of trouble. And while the state cannot be run by the church and vica versa, he recognizes that in terms of having a net positive effect on the culture, teaching ppl to do good and behave themselves, being accountable to (dare I say it) to 'God' [i'll skip the 500 page dissertation on the 10,000 ways to define that term, but let's just think of it as the Source of the Perfect Standard of Behavior that has the Ultimate Authority to call you out, and maybe do something more than give you a slap on the wrist], this should (on paper) engender a more civilized nation, generally filled with ppl who have a respect for the law, and the person and property of their neighbor.
I realize many will chafe at this 'polyanna' concept, and drag out the old stories about the 'crusades' and 'columbus' and all the 'evil' christians, but these events had a far greater number of variables than just ppl who allegedly are doing their best to follow the golden rule - not the cynical one either.

Despite the never ending trash talk we hear *these* days about all the theists, and masons, and how basically satan raised up America, if you read contemporaneous accounts of America, a well known one by Alexis de Tocqueville, in 1830 (Democracy in America), you will see that while the founders were wise not to allow the european model (constant wars based on whether or not so and so was a catholic or not), within the population there was strong teaching from the puplits, and a general respect for Jesus and the Christian religion, the definition of which, and I think still holds true today, as simply being trying your best to live the right way, and respect God, the source of good, and Jesus, the most famous man who ever lived to remind us of this very basic personal mission each of us hopefully will accomplish before we pass from this world.
In other words, Americans are rooting for the great country we used to be, before is was torn down, and its moral character stripped away by the jews. This is what they see in Putin.

I recently spoke with a friend who works as a security guard at a Saudi-sponsored mosque in Southern Caifornia. He told me that the Saudi mosque had been cooperating with the US government and hosting CIA mercenaries who were fluent in Arabic, wore traditional Middle Eastern garb and sported long beards. But the mercs were all non-Muslims hired to pretend to be Muslims, and the Saudis were teaching them theology and religious ritual at the mosque so that they could more readily blend in with actual Muslims. I have a feeling that these mercs my friend encountered are part of the sudden beardless exodus now that the ISIS op is failing.

Painting this as a Shia- Sunni conflict is a mistake. This is because the majority of the soldiers in the Syrian army are Sunni and Assad's wife is also Sunni. This conflict is multidimensional and can better be looked at as either Rothschilds v Syria, or Monarchists v republicans, or control of oil.
