There was a study done on Wall Street Finance.  The Steet is about 10% psychopaths:

A shocking statistic jumped out at us.  From the article:

Studies conducted by Canadian forensic psychologist Robert Hare indicate that about 1 percent of the general population can be categorized as psychopathic, but the prevalence rate in the financial services industry is 10 percent. And Christopher Bayer believes, based on his experience, that the rate is higher.

http://www.declineoftheempire.com/2012/03/psychopaths-on-wall-street.htm...

In prison's rate for psychopathy  is 15-25%.  In general population, male rate is 1%.

Female psychopaths are thought to be rare.

Psychopathic condition can be detected with Brain Scans:

Here is  a Ted Talk, with James Fallon.  Fallon discovered that Psychopathic brains light up differently than normal brains, so it can be detected.  I consider this an important advance:

https://www.ted.com/speakers/jim_fallon

Hopefully, humans of future will limit psychopathic individuals, and even psychopathic thought constructs (some religions are demonstrably psychopathic) to certain professions.  We haven't yet learned how to grapple with this problem, and it is probably genetic.  Modern humans are not ready to talk about Eugenics and Genetics.

Trying to teach that to the kids (family values).  My daughter definately gets it.  My son is on his way.  We are very different from the people we live around.  Sadly.  Funy thing though, people gravitate towards us.  I know that they just feel there is something grounding in that we do not subscribe to the madness.  Well... my wife is sort of half in, half out.  She will come around I think.  Just a matter of her reaching her tipping point.  I just keep putting the facts in front of her so that when she finally breaks, she knows the drill... and knows who will be there (or she will just kill me, ha ha... frankly, I think I am worth more dead than alive, lol).

Ever met one?  I mean on a personal level.  Fuck... half the medical doctor profession has some sort of messed up god complex that really boils down to an inferiority complex coupled with abnormal psychology.  The sane ones are a gem.

These days, doctors are just kids whose parents ram-rodded them from birth into it.  Draw your conclusions from there regarding mental health, ability, etc.

For the Army they want idealistic dupes with too much testosterone and not enough critical thinking.  That's what makes a good soldier.

A psychopathic soldier isn't controllable and tends to cause as much or more damage as benefit.

Clergy with a cross? Where's the Star of David?

The CEOs of small corporations turn into sociopaths as well.

What starts out as a company becomes their personal property. What once was the company's money becomes their money.

Hiring someone or giving a raise becomes stealing from the CEO. They see giving someone an extra $10k as taking it out of their wallet making them $10k poorer.

I have only met a few corporate officers that weren't psychos. Most of them were put out of business by the psychotic ones who didn't care about ending other's careers.

i don't think psychopath is the right label for most of these, i think sociopath is correct. psychopath may fit some policemen, and military members of special forces. sociopath fits nicely for central bankers and political appointees, while elected politicians are more likely to psychopaths, to use the term in a sentence, Barack Obama is a psychopathic liar. Hillary Clinton is sociopathic because she breaks the rules and then she uses subterfuge to conceal the act,  though the fact that she would probably start a war with Iran, and she supported the war with Iraq, suggests she is also a psychopath. He husband was only sociopathic, in that he allowed other people to pursue violent policies for his own political expediency. Donald Trump is very nimble at directing any revealing of his personality away from views which make him seem muck like either, though he is probably both.

The term "psychopath" carries no moral judgment.

You can be a psychopath in business and screw people who voluntarily agree to be screwed, or you can be a psychopath in political office and screw people whether they like it or not.

A sociopath is a socialised psychopath. The condition is the same, but a sociopath can typically function well within society. Psychopaths tend to go off the deep end and end up in prison or dead.

Seems my understanding is approximately reverse:

Great recommendation XitSam. My parents lived next door to a sociopath whose specialty was being a financial predator. Total chameleon and the zaniest, most likeable guy you'd ever want to meet.

In our small community he borrowed money from everyone. Mostly banks, but he loved the challenge of getting people to trust him. Stole from me, yes. My father's retirement fund. All his friends loaned him money because he was so charming and "honest." He was also a "recovering alcoholic" who used his AA angle on people. His "highest achievement" was getting a local waitress (from AA), who was working three jobs to save for her son's college education to invest the $25,000 she saved with him. He drove a new Mercedes, owned a couple planes, bought $1000 shoes... but that wasn't the point. He got off vicimizing people.

In 2006 he declared bankruptcy... $72,000,000 in debt in our very small community. The banks lost the most but the little people got hurt the most. I worked with the FBI and local enforcement for 8 years. They did NOTHING. He blatently ignored bankruptcy laws, wire fraud, you name it. Law enforcement and disctrict atty did NOTHING with evidence, witnesses and proof handed to them on a silver platter. In the end I hated them a LOT more than my sociapath neighbor. He just did what he was born to do. They didn't even do their jobs.

PS - We finally tracked some funds to Isle of Man and clawed back $1.5M. I'm convinced he got away with at least $10M more.

Read the book.

Halin and Smedley, damn good questions. And Smed I do enjoy your comments on other issues. Believe me, it was duly considered but, to quote my favorite Jersey lawyer's expression, "The juice wasn't worth the squeeze."

For the real answer I refer to Aesop's fables... the frog and the scorpion (15 second read)

http://www.aesopfables.com/cgi/aesop1.cgi?4&TheScorpionandtheFrog

Sociopaths do what they do because that's what they do.

They are part of the world. That's their nature. Can't blame 'em for cheating, murdering, raping, taking advantage of people any more than you can blame a shark for biting you while you're surfing. IT IS WHAT THEY DO.

Americah loves to blame other people... waaahhhh, he/she hurt me... took advantage of me... etc.

But the truth is we are all responsible for ourselves. Pay attention. Learn. Act accordingly. Choose friends accordingly.

It's all part of educating one's self. And spotting sociopaths (around 7% of the population?) is a good skill to have.

Does he (and ALL sociopaths) deserve to be eliminated from the gene pool?

Hell yes. But better to learn that they exist, avoid them, and allow them to work their "magic" on others.

Darwin's survival of the fittest.

Do I want to spend the rest of my life in prison to eliminate one of millions of predators. Nope.

And as I said, to me the BIGGEST criminals in that story are the guttless, lazy, worthless bureaucrats in our government who do a shitty job, suck from the public teat and do NOTHING of value. Despising and losing all respect for them was my biggest lesson.

Sociopath is probably a more apt description. I am in media and ceo. But a good ceo is always selling so add that too. A.sociopath is emotionally weak. They can be both hero and villain based on how to respond to emotional weakness but eventually the heorism succumbs to other sociopaths (predators). If you conquer one is far less to conquer you, at least that is how I felt at one time.  That is the thinking of a sociopath. Just eat or be eaten.

Now, most of this behavior is based on digestive disorders which create a dietary deficiency, a body will replace chemicals not naturally metabolized into adrenaline. Two general effects: increased beta brain waves and anxiety follwoed by crash. Stimulants such as caffiene, alcohol and drugs exacerbate these effects.

I know all this as I used the beta brain waves to find the information using symptom clustering (I am lucky, I am in health publishing) and now suffer very few side effects in treatment. I also now internalize problems instead of externalizing them but I have not found perfect balance. Perhaps no one can but worth the effort in quality of life.

Your politicians and bankers are sociopaths. Lawyers maybe, but they tend to codify and profit from the first two groups. CEOs in finance are also sociopaths. It at at times is easier to cheat and buy politicians than to add value by making a better product in the market until the masses wake up. Penguins steal from.one another in nature. The thief always watches for others while the naive get robber for awhile until they catch on to the game. Hope this commentary helps.

Hopefully, one day, you will be able to do away with the pain killers.

I'm surprised to find police as low as #7, I would have placed them at #1. They main reason they take a job as a cop is because they get to carry a gun and spend their careers looking for an opportunity to use it in the line of duty.

Frequently asked question to Wallbuilders:

How many signers of the Declaration were ministers?
Many were trained as ministers, but at the time of the signing of the Declaration, only a few were active in ministry. For example John Witherspoon was serving as a minister at that time; Robert Treat Paine served as a military chaplain during the Revolution; and Lyman Hall had served as a minister before the Revolution; etc. However, there are many others who should also be noted for their ministry work, including Francis Hopkinson, a church music director and choir leader who edited a famous American hymnbook; Roger Sherman, who wrote the doctrinal creed for his denomination in Connecticut; Benjamin Rush, who started Sunday School in America and founded the country’s first Bible Society; James Wilson, who had been trained as a clergyman in Scotland but became an attorney, teaching students the Biblical basis of civil law; and many others. In fact, at least 29 of the signers had been trained in schools whose primary purpose was the preparation of ministers, including John Adams, Samuel Adams, Carter Braxton, Charles Carroll, William Ellery, Elbridge Gerry, Lyman Hall, John Hancock, Benjamin Harrison, Joseph Hewes, William Hooper, Francis Hopkinson, Thomas Jefferson, Francis Lewis, Philip Livingston, Thomas Lynch, Arthur Middleton, Lewis Morris, Thomas Nelson Jr., William Paca, Robert Treat Paine, Benjamin Rush, James Smith, Richard Stockton, William Williams, James Wilson, John Witherspoon, Oliver Wolcott, and George Wythe. They attended universities and seminaries of learning such as Harvard, Yale, William and Mary, Princeton, Cambridge, and Westminster.

Good people will still slaughter animals that's where the break occurs IMO and it's a matter of semantics.  Mankind has infinite ability to rationalize what it wants to.  It's a choice.

Here's where spirituality comes in.   When early man slaughtered wild game to eat they made it right by respecting the prey.   They said it's God's will that this beast fell prey to my spear or knife and since I respect it and venerate it, i'm good with it.

Anyone can become a psychopath it's a choice and to do it all you have to do is imagine yourself as superior and presto you are the butcher and everyone else is the cow or the hunter and they are the prey.  That was easy.

That's why spirituality stresses that there is a higher power judging you and I, that keeps the monsters at bay for most of us.  The psychopaths are really just outside that realm is all but the truly frightening thing about humans is how they can begin to behave in large groups.

Freud was decidedly deppressed about humanity when he died, largely because he was very sick but also because well, he had seen things you can't unsee.

The Walking Dead constantly likes to dance on this line.  Every last vestige of our civilized self is beaten down then offed in that one to distill it down to kill or be killed base behavior which is really just who we are laid bare.

That's what we do and we put all kinds of nice bows and ribbons on it and hide it especially in polite society but it's always there and especially in polite soiciety you just aren't allowed to use your fists there but your checkbook and your wits.

One good release valve for this I think would be to allow physical fights then things would regulate themselves but to become truly abhorent and truly evil you can insulate yourself from your actions until well things totally break down then after the purge sweeps up mostly bit players and also rans ala the French revolution the truly guilty re-emerge same as it ever was, same as it ever will be.

Everyone that eats a cage raised chicken without killing it or seeing it live then die for them is to the chicken a psychopath.

You can't exercise empathy unless you are personally interacting with the consequences of all your actions.  Modern life allows us all to divorce ourselves from the nitty gritty of what we do.

So the doctor that practices medicine isn't sitting at home for hours with the patient moaning in pain or doesn't watch them crap themselves from their dubious chemo prescription that costs 50k per for maybe 3 more months of life because if they did that if they were made to watch it all you would hope they'd exercise some compassion?

So our problem really isn't just the natural psychopaths, the problem is we are systemically creating the exact conditons to turn almost ANYONE into one.

You understand.  Our society as it is currently constituted is EVIL. It creates a series of rewards and punishments, incentives and deterrents, that nudge ordinary, decent human beings into psychopathic behavior AND CALLS IT GOOD. Try reading this:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/10/18/1434767/-Empire-s-Fall-part-10

and see where it takes you.  If you end up retching over the porcelain receptacle, congratulations -- your soul is still pure.  If not, well, join the crowd . . .

Excellent post, but did you leave out SSRI and similar drugs and their greatly-increasing prevelance in American society? Yes, it's almost time again for a true societal revolution and hold some of these damned pushers to the wall and ignore their money! Cage-raised chicken is especially gross if they stack them atop each other, as mentioned repeatedly on the Keiser Report. (Max and Stacy keep these descriptions somewhat tasteless, which I enjoy immensely!)

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I used the word sociopaths rather than psychopaths because I thought the psychopath was the extreme, thus "psycho."  I thought sociopaths were more interwoven socially, using their methods to weave in and out of social situations to their benefit, without empathy or conscience. Mass killers were psychopaths, and banksters sociopaths.  Guess I'll have to be more careful with words.

In support of many of the comments already made - the veracity of this list is questionable if it does not include bankers in the top 10 (truly top 5).  I worked in banking for many years, and the further up the food chain (a phrase that is truly appropriate for the financial industry) I got, the more (first) sociopaths and (then) psychopaths I ran into.  I finally left the industry to pursue other opportunities because associating with this crowd was starting to change me, and I did not like the direction it was compelling me to go in (and I was starting a family and did not want to pass on these sorts of behavioral traits to my kids - not worth it)

Senior Wanker bankers have to be in the top 5 (squids in the top 2)
