Meet The New Generation Of Traders

Tyler Durden's picture

Having spent the last 5 years of his trading career "in short option spreads and Biotech," we are sure Tyler McCain and his Fed-fueled ilk are very well equipped to deal with whatever it is that The Fed has in store for the markets next...

Good luck Tyler.

Luckily, Tyler has corrected his initial Bio which showed his spreading options from the nursery...

If only Tyler had a math Ph.D, Virtu would hire him on the spot - after all the HFTs are smart and they know that when the scapegoating begins, they will need a few sacrificial lambs besides just the algos to throw at the regulators.

At that age he should be trading using Coinigy on bitcoin markets. Still using real money, but not skewing the real markets figures with his perspective until 21. Tell you what, he should really be trading Zero Hedge Coin 0. Let's make it a reality, so teenage traders everywhere can short and pump and dump to their hearts content. http://zhc0.com

Get your shit together, and change your direction while you still have an ass to kick. Jesus, fucking kids these days. You all think technology is a miracle. All it is is electrons that can be made to go poof any fucking minute now. if i blew up your phone right now, you would look like a cow at the slaughterhouse just at the moment the bolt gun goes off - " How could you do this to me ? What'll I do now ? " Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. Triumph over adversity. And, transform your idea into minting  a fucking coin out of noble metals, or I will make you look like a one legged man at a nut kicking contest.

They make money on a sideways or slowly rising market.

One drop and their losses become imense and mom and dad lose their house because their son or daughter was trading on dad's account.

I know so many people who write calls and puts and don't counter protect their own trades enough because it nibbles on their profits that suddenly their account with 50k on it turns into a loss of -250k.

And it always turns sour, always because only 1 day of bad luck is enough to wipe them out.

And when I tell them that 80% of my trades are the actual buying of stocks, they look at me like I'm a martian while I'm the one making more profits but slower. If I make a 5% gain, it's mostly enouh to bail and move to the next. And if it turns sour, I just wait.

And when I go into options, it's with my profits and never more then 3 to 4k.

Today for example, I made 1400 euro's on my stocks. A good day. And I sold. And in total, I have about 20 to 30 trades like that per year.

And every stock I buy needs to meet all the criteria in case I need to hold it for 6 to 12 months.

NEVER anything with a negative EPS and never anything with a PE above 12 and volume needs to be above 1% per day.

Hey, I would really appreciate it I you could tell me a little bit about how you started? I'm 18 just as Tyler, and would like to start trading within the next year or so. I don't really have that much (money) and I'm not looking to make a fortune either, I just don't have that much to spend on, and definetly would like to have some money for travelling while human movility is high until it is no longer so. And the less time I maintain a payed job the better. I will definetly need a property and whatever holds value by then, when things are not so nice. (10-20yrs?, I know it REALLY depends)

My main concern is about getting the right 'education', so to speak. Where did you learn your ways around trading? I know some of the basics already, and I definetly enjoy the learning part, but still haven't managed to make a decision about how and where should I be drawing knowledge from? And because of that I'm not making the progress I would like.

Thanks in advance, I think you're quite the nice fellow by what you wrote.

Great, my neighbor's kid is day trading.  And he's got the "lying on your resume" thing down pretty good, too.  I'm sure he'll do just fine.

Just wondering who gave him an options trading account with margin at age 13.  Last time I checked, that was illegal for somebody of that age.  But who really cares about "illegal" any more?  So long as he's not Indian and isn't spoofing quotes without proper governmental authorization, I guess it's all good.

Should I put the nine months of pre-natal experience on a Wall Street trading desk on my resume?  Does the UGMTA brokerage account I had as a baby, kid and teenager count as trading experience?  I've been paying capital gains taxes to Uncle Sam since I was one year old, so it's not as if there isn't a long paper trail...

According to New-Math-Resume-BS I must have more experience than Jamie Dimon, and I can also get a professional reference from his old boss at JPM.

This shit has to stop, we have entire generations that are useless for anything except cannon fodder.

Day trading is something I have never done, and never will do. It is as bad as using technical analysis in your investment "strategy" I guess I should have worded it differently. I learned investing on the options and derivatives markets. I've been around options fund managers the past five years and they were who first introduced me to the markets. Options were then the tool used to teach me about investing, and once I had a rudimentary understanding of how they worked I dove deeper into the underlying assets.

yes. I think it is a good thing for him. The cold reality in the money system we deal with, if you do not know how to capitalize on the boom and bust cycles, you are the proverbial sitting duck. But then the ducks just sit and since I have been actively trading, the DOW was just under 2000. It is 17000 today. As long as I have been trading, I still as yet have seen a bear market. I think there was one from like 1929-1950 or so, and then 1970-1980 or so, but since then nothing.

Dramatic plunges? sure, lots of those. 20% or greater? I think a couple times. Whatever. But prices just *race* back to the highs. Prices stay down for such a short period of time, you never really have a chance to see price action develop a bottom and really wring out excess.

The bottom line is, if you want to get rich, and I mean very very rich, you buy into hard selling, and sit tight. I wish I had done a lot more of that over the years. I managed to buy the massive selling, and made *some* money, but clearly not enough for the quality of the fills back in the day.

I've already started to adjust. My portfolio is moving more towards deep value and dividend producing stocks. I'm now living on my own so part of the adjustment has been due to the fact that I'm scaling back my overall risk, and the other part has been because of the massive amounts of uncertainty that has been showing up in the market as of late.

Wonder if Seeking Alpha will be charged when this kids trade recommendations blow up on someone?

His profile says he is a compliance mgr... (which if true, he wouldn't be allowed to write stock recommendations)

It also says he is an 18yr old student... (which seems more plausible based on the photo, but would bring into question how he is shorting options spreads as a minor)

Somewhere, there are (ahem! cough!) "investors" who are studying the kid's stock recommendation article with a lot more scrutiny than they are his profile page. Fools and their money, until their lawyers go after the student or the website (guessing SeekingAlpha owners have deeper pockets than a student?).

You're right, I've never seen a recession. Does that really matter? I don't care if I see one in the near future either. If my portfolio is down for a few years while I wait for the markets to move one way or the other, my portfolio is down. There's no point in stressing about it. I've been fortunate to learn investing in a bull market so I haven't experienced any major losses, passed the ones where I stuck my neck out a little too far on a whim... which does happen on occassion. In the event a recession hits I'll just go about buying in the same fashion I do right now and continue collecting assets at a discount rather than the premium they are trading at now.

Since I'm the kid you decided to attack. Here's the thing you all don't seem to get. I am NOT a day trader. When I trade options spreads I typically go for 3-12 months. When I trade equities I set and forget. I rebalance once a quarter and past that I don't look at my portfolio because it doesn't really matter. If there's a major news event I might adjust positions a bit, but past that it's a once a quarter thing. I use a long term fundamental analysis software for my backtesting and screening purposes, Equities Lab. You see Mr.Durden, I spend my time learning and investing rather than writing an article attempting to tear someone down where you only evidence is a typo made in the biography of a rival news site.

I can't stand HFT firms, and anyone who daytrades as it completely destroys the natural flow of the market.
