PM-Elect Of 'US Ally' Canada Wastes No Time: Tells Obama Will Withdraw Fighter Jets From Syria, Iraq

Tyler Durden's picture

With the ink still damp on voter slips, newly crowned elected Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wasted no time in fulfilling the first of his liberal "hope" and "change" promises. As AFP reports, hours after defeating Stephen Harper, Trudeau has told US President Obama that he will withdraw Canadian fighter jets from Syria and Iraq, though giving no timeline. So far, the US response is a mutedly diplomatic but tinged with guilt, "We have stood shoulder to shoulder with Canadian armed forces... in Iraq and Afghanistan," from the US State Department.

"About an hour ago I spoke with President Obama," Trudeau told a press conference.

While Canada remains "a strong member of the coalition against ISIL," Trudeau said he made clear to the US leader "the commitments I have made around ending the combat mission."

Canada last year deployed CF-18 fighter jets to the region until March 2016, as well as about 70 special forces troops to train Kurds in northern Iraq.

During the campaign, Trudeau pledged to bring home the fighter jets and end its combat mission. But he vowed to keep military trainers in place.

His new Liberal government will be "moving forward with our campaign commitments in a responsible fashion," Trudeau said.

"We want to ensure that the transition is done in an orderly fashion."

Earlier on Tuesday, as Sputnink News reports, the US State Department addressed questions as to whether or not it was concerned that Canada's new government may not support US foreign policy regarding IS presence in Afghanistan.

"These are all decisions the Canadian people have to make and Canadian legislators have to make... and their Prime Minister [has to make]," department spokesperson John Kirby told reporters.

"We have stood shoulder to shoulder with Canadian armed forces…in Iraq and Afghanistan," he added.

*  *  *

While this move seems like a hope-y and change-y step forward, the lack of timeline leaves plenty of room for the neocons to knock on Trudea's door and shower gifts on an economy floundering on the verge of "Emerging Market" status (as HSBC analysts warned).

I grew up in a border town. I have nothing but the highest regard for the thoughtful, rugged, and industrious Canadians. Like the Scandinavians, your only real shortcoming is an overly developed sympathy for less fortunate swarthy foreigners along with a wealthy minority wielding outrageous power.

I salute you and your countrymen and women. I share your joy in celebrating Canada's individualism and new direction!

The new PM is pandering to his supporters with this meaningless symbolic gesture.
Canada has six F-18-variant fighter jets in the Middle East. Two have been assigned to Syrian operations. The new PM claims that at some future date he'll order both of them to keep away from Syria.

I am pleased as punch that Trudeau will stop cooperating with the Empire's wars. Somebody has to be first and Canada is the best possible ally to start the process. I don't like the Canada bashing I read read here from some people. I've been through the country from east to west and find Canadians to be fantastic. I'd move there tomorrow if it wasn't so cold. I'd live there if I was rich enough to afford a large house with a heated indoor pool aside a mountain. Dang, it's gorgeous there. What's really good about Trudeau is he intends to push right away for cannabis legalization. I have tried using weed a couple times - ok, more than a couple. I'd love to get the whole pentagon stoned during one of their war rallies. Maybe a few of those neocon morons would wake up to the reality that not everyone is an enemy.

I know most hate liberals but I can't see Liberals allowing Canadians to starve or not afford heat... or be run out of their homes... when the collapse comes... BUT  I am sure these things will happen in USA... there will be mass civil unrest there and many will try to get into Canada...

As well, unlikely that Canada will be nuked.

Also this riding off the US coat tails BS... Well I for one am sick of being colonized, first like Brits did, then the USA took over... printing fiat ponzi from nothing and then buying everything up, demanding all, setting prices, manipulating prices... like the evil shit heads they are... and need to be hung... overthrowing governments to suit themselves.

When US dollar is not accepted it shall be a good thing.

Harper was two things beyond everything he may have been to domestic Canadian policies. He was an American puppet in all foreign affairs. Worse, he was one of the world's biggest christian zionists. Seeing Israel as earth's most important element. Canada ran second to Israel in Harpers heart. He worshiped Zion like few non Jews ever could.

The big thing... that could come, is that Canada has a law on the books that allows the Federal gov to print money for it's OWN use... not borrow... in 74 the zios got rid of this and made us borrow from zios... interesting to see if this will come back.. then Canada will zero federal debt... as it should be... a nation borrowing money from a zio bank??? defies logic... How can a zio bank have more monetary power than a nation as Canada..

if that happens the shit will fly... assasinations... everything... I am sure Goldman spies are in Ottawa now

If Justin legalizes pot and taxes the hell out of it, he'd have the money to do a lot of things without taking on more debt. He'll also both give the U.S. establishment a great big middle finger and become the best damn PM in a very long time. I can't imagine many things the U.S. gov. would hate more than mile after mile of fields of bud swaying in the prairie breeze to the north, kind of like tulips in Afghanistan. Well I guess growing it out on the prairies probably would'nt produce a very good product. But we could produce enough to get the whole world high. Just dreaming I guess.

Gary Allen called, he wants his misnomers back.

Neocons: Fascists employing debt to enslave nations on behalf of a handful of international auto/plutocrats while poking eveyone elses' dicks into hornets' nests.

Socialists: seek to empower labour through labour's ownership of the means of production.End of.

Fascism is a form a socialism where businesses, especially corporations, retain 'title' to the means of production but the government controls it via tax, regulations and subsidies.  The right to property means control, use and disposal.  If you can't control your property, it isn't yours.

Neocons vary in their economic beliefs and change them according what the 'people' want - except when it comes to war.  The Washington Post used to be 'liberal' - now it's neocon.

Fri, 10/23/2015 - 01:00 | 6696340 GoinFawr
GoinFawr's picture

No, you left Gary Allen on hold, so you could answer my last question with a "Yessity do da"

FWIW: Gary Allen wrote "None Dare Call it Conspiracy", which actually isn't that bad of a read, just so long as you are willing to undergo the mental exercise of replacing all his (and apparently yours) tediously deliberate misnomers with the applicable terms, throughout the entire book.

Look, socialism, by definition, cannot be fascism. On the political spectrum they are opposites. Sure, a fascist may do anything to achieve his goal of fortifying a plutocracy, most definitely including pretending to be 'socialist'.

Eg. Equality before the law is 'socialist'. That doesn't in any way mean, imply, or assert that 'everyone is equal in all ways eternally', that some people can't be 'better' than others at something; Equality before the law means exactly what it says and nothing more. Fascists don't like that.

Eg. Employing a profitable SOE to pay the state's bills: socialist. SOE's are effectively owned/operated by labour, and labour has both direct and indirect control over these enterprises in social democracies. Direct, because someone has to pull the levers and push the buttons, and indirect through the elected legislature. Fascists certainly don't like SOE's that operate for the benefit of all, governed by all, with books transparent to all (who own it). Yes this gives the company for the people run by the people an advantage in whatever industry is chosen, but anything else is usually fair game.

My point is that just because some skeevy hearted little fascist uses socialist rhetoric to appeal to the labour he wants to exploit in order to entrench his plutocracy at their expense doesn't mean the one ideology is part of the other. It just means the sociopathic fascist is smart enough to know he's not going to get anywhere telling people the truth about his real plans.

It's called 'lip service': words; actions speak louder than them.

If a fascist turd calls himself a rose it doesn't mean he smells like one.

This 'fascism is a form of socialism' malarkey is getting a bit tired, no?

Now unmitigated capitalism, that can be one helluva mighty instrument in the hands of fascists.

If they are careful, mixed economies can { AND HAVE DONE. AND ARE DOING. FOR DECADES} pay the nation's bills, leaving the people to do whatever the hell they want, rather than be dictated to by foreign creditors.

Of course, even in mixed economies there is rarely anything to stop the individual from signing his name awaybecause mixed.

Anyway...

GTFO of "Ukraine?" That won't happen if plastic Uke and new MP Chrystia Freeland has anything to do with it.

U.K. Lawmakers Pass Fiscal Charter That Would Commit Government to Budget Surplus

http://www.wsj.com/articles/u-k-lawmakers-to-vote-on-fiscal-charter-that-would-commit-government-to-budget-surplus-1444836251

What's George Osborne proposing?

  • MPs debated whether to set up a legally-binding charter affecting how much the government can spend
  • It would mean that by 2020, the government had to run a budget surplus - which means it would be spending less than it collects in taxes
  • The charter would apply in "normal economic times", which would be when the economy is growing by 1% a year or more
  • The Office for Budget Responsibility, an independent watchdog, will be responsible for policing the new rules
  • Mr Osborne says it will make ministers more accountable, but critics warn that it is either meaningless or will bind the hands of future governments

We'll see in due course whether this guy will do what his butt buddy to the south did after he was elected. Kept Guantanamo open, stayed in Afghanistan and Iraq, and launched a few more wars to round it off.

Trudeau already has a run on the board. He's cancelled the F 35.

If he's anything like Obama, one of the following will happen:

1) He'll send the fighter jets back a few years later, but his supporters will still credit him for withdrawing them.

2) 8 years from now, they'll still be there, despite continuing to promise to withdraw them every year.

3) He'll bring the pilots home, but leave the jets in the middle of the desert.

The only thing I see different in him and brown clown is he isn't a fudge packer, or packee as the situation warrents. Other than that, very very similar.

Boy, have you a lot to learn. Trudeau is a second-generation tapette. His real wife is Gerald Butts, his principal advisor, college roommate and writer of all the drama teacher's lines.

Liberals kept Caanada out of the Iraq disater. Now in Syria a new Liberal leader sees the truth about ISIS and ask why should we bomb America's puppets. My Canada has Trudeau as PM!.

Stopped-clock syndrome. The Liberal Party of Canada has never been a friend of freedom and is no friend of Russia now she is free. Notorious  Plastic Uke Chrystia Freeland will be a minister in Justin's government.

The big show of pulling out of the war against ISIS is a bone being tossed to the Muslims who helped the Liberals drive the NDP from Toronto, and a slap at Israel (Pierre, like most French Canadians, was a lifelong Jew-hater). DC is prepared to accept Justin's grandstanding---they don't really need Ottawa's help, and Riyadh considers Canada a competitor and an enemy, just as Russia is.

About the only upside is that Goldman alumnus Mark Carney will never be Canada's PM.

I really like some of the people from Canada, To be fair there are exceptions everywhere but GENERALLY BC, SK and Alberta people were some of the warmest and well educated liberal thinkers I have ever met and I worked with many. Superior educational quality for most... Love snowboarding there. The golden triangle is a whole different world you can keep walled off from my interaction..merde..aloof with a stench of racial and class superiority. Vansterdam was a cesspool of filth like many tourist cities in the USSA. I did like the Hempire company VW bug though !  One block off the main tourist drag and you have needles in the alley. Too much glass and highrises- pacific rim invasion with the correspondingly cold zero eye contact.  Drinking out with nuffies will change your life for the better if you can comprehend what they are saying.  My take, your individual experience may vary. God bless Canada, at least the good ol' parts that remain. Love from the incomprehensible excitable states of what was America, PS: Almost every area outside of Vancouver proper was stunningly beautiful with friendly people. Quebec was ABSOLUTELY the low point of the triangle.
