Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals Are Making Us Fat and Giving Us Diabetes
We documented in 2012 that that toxic chemicals in our food, water and air our causing an epidemic of obesity … even in 6 month old infants.
No matter how lazy and gluttonous adults may have become recently, 6-month-olds can’t be lazy … they can’t even walk, let alone go to the gym. And 6-month-olds can’t “binge” … Gerber doesn’t make corn dogs or milk chocolate truffles fried in beer batter.
And we documented in 2012 that the same thing is being observed in animals … hardly your stereotypical couch potatoes.
A study published last month in the journal Obesity Research & Clinical Practice found that it’s harder for adults today to maintain the same weight – even at the same levels of food intake and exercise – as adults in the 1980s. (As reported by the Atlantic and the Independent.)
And last month, the prestigious Endocrine Society reinforced the argument that endocrine-disrupting chemicals are making us fat.
As Medical Xpress reports:
Emerging evidence ties endocrine-disrupting chemical exposure to two of the biggest public health threats facing society – diabetes and obesity, according to the executive summary of an upcoming Scientific Statement issued today by the Endocrine Society.
***
The statement builds upon the Society’s groundbreaking 2009 report, which examined the state of scientific evidence on endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and the risks posed to human health.
***
The chemicals are so common that nearly every person on Earth has been exposed to one or more. An economic analysis published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism in March estimated that EDC exposure likely costs the European Union €157 billion ($209 billion) a year in actual health care expenses and lost earning potential.
“The evidence is more definitive than ever before – EDCs disrupt hormones in a manner that harms human health,” said Andrea C. Gore, Professor and Vacek Chair of Pharmacology at the University of Texas at Austin and chair of the task force that developed the statement. “Hundreds of studies are pointing to the same conclusion, whether they are long-term epidemiological studies in human, basic research in animals and cells, or research into groups of people with known occupational exposure to specific chemicals.”
***
Animal studies found that exposure to even tiny amounts of EDCs during the prenatal period can trigger obesity later in life. Similarly, animal studies found that some EDCs directly target beta and alpha cells in the pancreas, fat cells, and liver cells. This can lead to insulin resistance and an overabundance of the hormone insulin in the body – risk factors for Type 2 diabetes.
Epidemiological studies of EDC exposure in humans also point to an association with obesity and diabetes, although the research design did not allow scientists to determine causality. The research offers insights into factors driving the rising rates of obesity and diabetes. About 35 percent of American adults are obese, and more than 29 million Americans have diabetes, according to the Society’s Endocrine Facts and Figures report.
Postscript: This is in no way an excuse. I've got to get off my @ss and exercise more and pig out less if I want to lose my "Dad Bod".
But it doesn't f@©king help.

Projection. Look it up...
The regime that the dominates this continent is anti-America. People who criticize the regime are pro-America. The "government" is not the same things as America.
Just to clarify.
"milk chocolate truffles fried in beer batter"
OMG. Where can I get me some of them?
They've got deep fried dill pickles down at the Walmart.
Pseudoscience.
Defined as: science I don't like or would make me re-evaluate & change my behavior.
Do a search on "xeno-estrogens". "Endrocine disrupting" is a polite way of saying you have unintentionally consumed massive doses of chemicles your body treats a estrogen. Too much estrogen in both men an women is bad, very bad.
I've been avoiding xeno-estrogens the best I can for over a year and my health has improved greatly.
Good luck.
"Natural Causes," the anachronistic olde tymie way of declaring that an individual expired. But now expiration is BIG BUSINESS™, let's call it Big Expire™. They can correlate whatever with whatever and you still die. Both my grandfathers grew up eating meat once a week, had outhouses, didn't have telephones till 1960ish, drank booze, smoked Pall Malls, gambled, worked their asses off, didn't ever have air conditioning, and yet one died in his 40's and the other near 80. Maybe we could expand government to solve that "problem." One week x is bad for you, then the next week x is good for you. X is never neutral, because neutral doesn't land $$$ grants for doing the "science." No wonder kids these days are growing up being treated for depression and stress at incredibly high rates. There is so much alarmism and scare mongering out there.
None of it matters anyways as this is all first world hand wringing. The very same handwringing concentrated in countries that are importing mohammedians at incredible rates, then excusing all their deleterious cultural habits with moral relativism and multi-culturalism PC bullshit. You think BPA is going to swole some gland which will lead to your eventual contribution to Big Expire™? Nah, mohammed al muhammad is going to cheese grate your skull off your cervical vertebrae.
I've had to deal with x all my life and I am tired of it. X has caused excessive lethargy and an unrelenting desire sleep every night and when ever I do succumb to sleep x is waiting for me when I wake ... it's everywhere x here, x there, I know technology will someday find a cure for x but in the mean time I will obsess in dreaming of a x-free life.
"Mmmm, x." -- Homer Simpson
All these things in the article and comment thread, and likely more are screwing us up. The folly of man.
eating wisely is evidently very hard to do..this edc's stuff is making that clear.(this problem of edc's in the enviornment is far more important that carbon pollution, so it is ignored by leadership and msm)
the life style of the poor and less educated has handicaped them and damned them to disease of metabolic syndrome..in that they do not understand the threat, nor sadly, can they afford the better foods.
toxic chemicals given to us without our consent. fighting that is what the worlds scientist should be worried about..wonder why so few are?

"Resistant starch (RS) is starch that does not get digested in the stomach or small intestine and enters the large intestine intact."
This bland definition may be one of the most important things you ever read. This seemingly innocuous substance known as “resistant starch” is a simple solution to a huge problem—the feeding of our intestinal microbiome. For decades now, resistant starch has been exhaustively studied and declared time and again an ideal solution to many of modern society’s health woes. If you find yourself saying, “Why am I just now hearing about this?” you are not alone. Why Should I Care? The next question I hope you’ll ask is, “Do I really need resistant starch?” The answer is, “Most likely!” ...And here: http://freetheanimal.com/2014/04/explanation-resistant-popping.html
The Best General Explanation of Resistant Starch Yet; Eye-Popping 4-Minute Video The Hungry Microbiome: why resistant starch is good for youBPA is much more ubiquitous than Birth Control pills and their byproducts, BPA is treated by our bodies as estrogen.
BPA was used for at least 5 decades for everything from lining food cans to plastic baby bottles.
BPA has been linked to everything from breast and others cancers to reproductive problems, obesity, early puberty and heart disease, and according to government tests, 93 percent of Americans have BPA in their bodies! How to avoid it? Go fresh instead of canned – many food cans are lined with BPA – or research which companies don’t use BPA or similar chemicals in their products. Say no to receipts, since thermal paper is often coated with BPA. And avoid plastics marked with a “PC,” for polycarbonate, or recycling label #7. Not all of these plastics contain BPA, but many do.
Dioxins are multi-taskers… but not in a good way! They form during many industrial processes when chlorine or bromine are burned in the presence of carbon and oxygen. Dioxins can disrupt the delicate ways that both male and female sex hormone signaling occurs in the body. This is a bad thing! Here’s why: Recent research has shown that exposure to low levels of dioxin in the womb and early in life can both permanently affect sperm quality and lower the sperm count in men during their prime reproductive years. But that’s not all! Dioxins are very long-lived, build up both in the body and in the food chain, are powerful carcinogens and can also affect the immune and reproductive systems.
How to avoid it? That’s pretty difficult, since the ongoing industrial release of dioxin has meant that the American food supply is widely contaminated. Products including meat, fish, milk, eggs and butter are most likely to be contaminated, but you can cut down on your exposure by eating fewer animal products.

not my site, just the first solid hit from google.
its a complicated subject and to try to put it all on birth control pills is to misunderstand much and to blame many for little in the big picture.
Industrial chemicals are a much bigger problem than birth control pills
Fructose is even more worrying from a health standpoint. After reading this article, we decided to stop buying our child any soft drinks (in spite of his protests).
http://dailyreckoning.com/your-brain-on-fructose-fried/?utm_source=twitt...
Don't believe freaks who write articles like "don't eat fructose."
Fructose is a sugar. fruit sugar. excess intake is the problem, not the sugar itself.
Please, get a brain and think for yourself. Who do you think is funding all those anti High Fructose Corn Syrup freaks? The sugar cane people who can't compete with corn, and gnostic bloggers.
"excess intake is the problem"---this varies greatly from person to person. Anyone with American Indian or African heritage can't tolerate nearly as much, it's poisonous, but so is sugar.
High Fructose Corn Syrup was a bone to the corn lobby during the 1970's. There were huge import taxes tacked onto sugar imports to support the corn lobby. HFCS was first marketed in the... early 1970's.

Mega doses of vitamin c daily aka dr. Pauling (10+ grams a day). The most powerful anti toxin on the planet and of course this info is supressed by fascistic big Pharma. See dr tom levy on YouTube...
Anita Bryant was right on so many levels.
one problem with this is 6 months olds are always supposed to be fat, so they can survive the winter. But yeah obesity is a problem.
400 million are diabetic in this world, 1200 million are pre-diabetic and 1 person dies every 6 seconds from diabetes.
Diabetes can be easily prevented

That's a great resource. Thanks for the link.
I created that website as a public service since diabetes is such a great killer and so easy to prevent. Have a PhD in Engineering and decades of AI experience - so it was no problem to create.
I collect no data except number of visitors and will never make a penny from it.
Working on a newer, improved version. And planning many more websites to prevent cancer, heart disease, obesity etc. All will use the same AI shell and logic. So they will be very easy and fast to create.
Any comments to improve it will be appreciated and will be acknowledged on the website.
the selling of poison has a long history..we are just better at it today.
qui bono? ...NWO elites keeping the general public in ill health, and afraid the dole will be cut off..well it will.
caviat emptor...the romans understood.
We need more diabetes free zones.
Endocrine-disrupting chemicals = Birth Control Pills (BCPs) are hormones contaminating our water supply.
Millions of females on BCPs urinate and the hormones and metabolites enter the sewer system and thereby circulated into the water supply. They are not eradicated by the chlorination stage at the water treatment plants. Hormones are active in tiny amounts -- that's what they do!
Yes, there are other EDCs but this is the 800 lb gorilla in the room that no one will talk about becaus they it means going up against big pharma and a large army of Feminazis skilled in the art of screeching.
We can't even say that it's 'BIRTH CONTROL PILLS' out loud. We have to invent off-putting 9 syllable euphemisms to make everyone ignore the problem in plain sight.
Totally agree with you.
I don't know about birth control pills, but I do know about tap water, and have had enough domestic pets (dogs & cats) over the decades to write a paper with a statistically significant sample size documenting a drop from a perhaps 50% rate of cancer deaths, to almost 0% (since there's one case where I'm not sure).
Then there's the issue of the fat public utility desk jockey who is supposed to precisely to measure flouride dosages, since chemicals like flouride, sodium iodide, potassium iodide, and iodine-131 all compete for "space" to hang out with the thyroid while it's doing its endocrine gland thing...
Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper was (almost) right!
almost? how can you doubt a great war hero like gen. ripper?
if it weren't for his eternal vigilance, communists would have already sapped and impurified your precious bodily fluids by now.
Very interesting article. The obesity-cancer-heart disease-diabetes industry is the biggest cash cow since pornography. I think it would probably be safe to think that one could limit exposure to endocrine chemicals by avoiding processed and fast foods, and eating organic whenever possible. However I have a friend here in California who is 62, does not drink, is a strict, organic vegetarian and reasonably active, yet is still about 50 lbs. overweight. I am certain that if he led his exact same life-style and dietary regimine in China (where I lived for ten years), he would be as thin as a rail, just skin and bones, so there has to be something weird going on...
Check and see if he is a Whole Foods, Plant Based vegetarian. There are "vegetarians" who eat lots of eggs, dairy and fish. Very unusual to be overweight eating only WFPB.

strangewalk, ask if your friend eats carbs? i went vegan for some years & gained weight. i was eating a lot of beans, lentils, grains, seeds. everything orgainic, lots of greens, raw veggies. no dairy, meat, or fish. i was shocked as i had always been embarrassingly thin. when i stepped back & began removing carbs i began to return to my natural weight. perhaps a lot of our food is now EDC, GMO's laced, sadly, even some organic. i know finding chorella that isn't from korea, china, japan is impossible (it's all brought in & then packaged as if it's been produced here). i keep hoping someone in texas may try producing it. there is a good spirulina coming from oregon now.
Sugar. That's it. That's all. No fancy chemicals. Our bodies are not equipped to handle the massive amounts of sugar in our diets. Forget about endochrine chemicals. Sugar does the same damage to the liver as alcohol (alcohol comes from sugar, dontcha know). It suppresses the chemical that tells our brain we are full. And, (big point here) it mildly stimulates the pleasure center of the brain. Rut-roh!
Any word ending in '-ose- is likely a sugar. Lactose, sucrose, glucose, FRUCTOSE. etc.
Refined starches generally, not just sugar.
There have been studies done on mice have found that high fructose corn syrup is so addictive they will reject normal food in favor of the HFCS, stop breeding and starve themselves to death.
Send tanker ships full of HFCS to the ME and PR

amen brother. stop eating grains and anything that comes in a bag or bottle. veggies, hormone free grass fed meats, fish, eggs, some fruit, lots of healthy fats. food is another tool our enemies are using against us in their (decreasingly) unseen war. some good names:

Probably feeding babies Cola... fucking idjits
A random sampling of mothers in a mothers group my wife is part of has found that new parents have absolutely no problem feeding their one year old children Baby Formula (check the head size difference between formula-fed and breast-fed), McDonalds, Hungry Jacks (Burger King), Red Cordial (Kool-Aid), lots of pasta and any kind of confectionary that they can chew. I've made sure my wife and I are on the same page, and our one year old is only getting meats, vegetables, milk, plain natural yogurt (yogurt and avocado is a good mix, amazingly), water, oats, fruits, eggs, and Milk Arrowroot biscuits every once in a while as a treat. Basically - he eats what we eat.
The stupid thing? Women in her group think WE'RE the crazy ones for not giving him "sweet treats".
Of course - my anecdotal evidence is only that, but you'd be hard pressed to see parents who are actually concerned about the food they're giving their kids, and themselves.
Yes. It's high fructose corn syrup, in colas and processed foods, doing all this. Around 1980, when Coke first switched to HFCS, a relative of mine ballooned out about 40-50 pounds before he figured out what was happening. After he swore off sweet colas, those pounds disappeared.
Almost no one wants the responsibility of owning their own body.
Got an actual problem? go to a doctor, buy a simple pill- problem solved.
Fear a future problem? go to a government, pass a simple law- problem avoided.
It's not that simple. The body is incredibly complex, and every person's body is "tuned" slightly differently when in balance.
Chlorine gas will also fuck with the body big time, yet we still allow people to go the grocery store and buy bleach and ammonia (for now anyway). Lowering the bar for being a surviving member of human species has been a disaster for the species, and the planet.
Put the best available information out in the public domain, make a reasonable effort to educate, and let the stupid perish naturally and at minimal expense to society. The alternative is someone (who of course knows better than you or I) will eventually codify the definition of useless eater if humans' individual responsibility is continually neglected.
all good points but sedentary living and plain old lazy are the biggest cuplrits of miserable health here in USSA today ! Here is proof beyond all the hype ! anybody can do the same thing rather easily, just gotta want to ? why not enjoy it all everyday !

I'm five foot ten and I weigh one hundred sixty pounds. But don't hate me because I'm beautiful. No pop, cakes and candies once every few months, ice cream in the summer. Organic meat, home grown vegetables. Self control. I'm even down to under half a pack a day. But don't mess with my coffee.
You probably wish to quit smoking altogether at some point. Many years of experience with different cig brands suggest that each has its own particular "brand name" additive that just happens to be far more addictive than nicotine. Most smokers know what I'm talking about if they've tried to switch brands. Another brand does nothing for you at all.
C'mon, nicotine is nicotine. It's the additives that are different between brands.
I tried to quit and failed so many times over the years that I finally gave up and settled for smoking American Spirit Organic Lights, thinking that at least I'm cutting the additives--all the additives, from soil and water to "conditioners" to "flavor enhancers" to preservatives to you name it. They even leave the glue off the papers, sealing them with a laser process instead. I figured that if/when I got back to it, quitting would theoretically be easier, at least, without all the additional unnamed and presumably addictive chemicals.
Just got around to it 5 days ago. It hasn't been easy, but it has been worlds easier than it used to be with other cigs.
Shift to Spirit Organics. Most American Spirit cigs are NOT organic, btw, popular misconception notwithstanding. Most of them--the most popular--are only natural (no additives while processing), not organic. In their line of maybe 8 different labels, only two are actually organic . . . and "Made With Organic Tobacco" is on the top front of the pack in fine print. You don't find them everywhere and you have to educate counter-people just to get them to hand you the right ones when they do have them. Hardly anybody is in the know, including those who sell them.
Highly recommended. Tasty while you're smoking and immeasurably less horrifying to quit when you finally get to it.
