Worst News Ever? World Health Organization Says Steak "Probably" Causes Cancer
Back in June, we highlighted the sobering and yet totally unsurprising fact that Americans are, at the risk of being crass, getting fatter all the time.
Researchers had just released a new report based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the conclusions were not encouraging. Around 35 percent of men and 37 percent of women are obese, the researchers said, adding that another 40 percent of men and 30 percent of women are overweight. In all then, some 74% of men are at risk, a rather precipitous increase over the past several decades:
And while none of that is particularly surprising given the proliferation of processed food and ready availability of 84 ounce Big Gulps at the local 7 Eleven, what was shocking about the report is the following: "This generation of Americans is the first that will have a shorter life expectancy than the previous generation, and obesity is one of the biggest contributors to this shortened life expectancy because it is driving a lot of chronic health conditions.”
Of course Americans are used to their sedentary lifestyle and have become accustomed to gorging themselves at meal time and if persisting in such creature comforts means shaving a few years off their lifespans well, for most people that’s probably a reasonable trade off.
But while Americans may not be frightened of heart attacks, they’re still generally scared of cancer and so one way to get everyone to stop blowing themselves up like balloons might be to make people scared to eat. Cue the World Health Organisation (via Reuters):
Eating processed meat can lead to bowel cancer in humans while red meat is a likely cause of the disease, World Health Organisation (WHO) experts said on Monday in findings that could sharpen debate over the merits of a meat-based diet.
The France-based International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the WHO, put processed meat such as hot dogs and ham in its group 1 list, which already includes tobacco, asbestos and diesel fumes, for which there is "sufficient evidence" of cancer links.
"For an individual, the risk of developing colorectal (bowel) cancer because of their consumption of processed meat remains small, but this risk increases with the amount of meat consumed," Dr Kurt Straif of the IARC said in a statement.
Red meat, under which the IARC includes beef, lamb and pork, was classified as a "probable" carcinogen in its group 2A list that also contains glyphosate, the active ingredient in many weedkillers.
The lower classification for red meat reflected "limited evidence" that it causes cancer. The IARC found links mainly with bowel cancer, as was the case for processed meat, but it also observed associations with pancreatic and prostate cancer.
Got that? Steak is now in the same category as weedkiller (Monsanto execs are laughing somewhere).

Here’s more color from Bloomberg:
The red meat study is just the latest of many that WHO has conducted since the 1970s, when it set out to identify and catalogue suspected carcinogens. The organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer has evaluated 984 agents, from chemicals to careers, that can be linked to cancer.
They fall into one of five classifications, according to the strength of the evidence: agents or activities that definitely, probably, or possibly cause cancer in humans; those that probably don’t cause cancer; and those for which the evidence is inconclusive.
It’s important to note that the agents at the top aren’t necessarily the most dangerous. They’re the ones with the clearest evidence of hazard. WHO seeks to identify carcinogens “even when risks are very low at the current exposure levels, because new uses or unforeseen exposures could engender risks that are significantly higher,” the agency says. In other words, even though WHO has determined that red meat is a carcinogen, the report doesn’t quantify how much meat it would take to cross into the danger zone.
The question now, we suppose, is whether this will be used as an excuse for government to begin ever so gradually enacting a set of paternalistic regulations on red meat and Lunchables in an all too familiar attempt by lawmakers to save us from ourselves.

Guard your steaks.

Least beer is safe.
40's cousin just died from colon cancer, doctors told him it was the beer, possibly gmo wheat in the beer he drank alot for a long time, go figure, nothing safe
the added genetic material in gmo foods jumps to gut bacteria
read that again real slow
so if the added genes are to produce pesticides guess what your gut bacteria then produces

So we should consume less and save some for the world's poor?
Meh, every couple years they come up with some crazy cancer causing thing. Coffee is a big example.
Red meat's fine in moderation. Same as dairy, alcohol, etc. Just don't overdose on anything and your body can take it.
Besides I have longetivity on my side. All of my oldest relatives on both sides are living into their 80s and 90s and eating plenty of red meat. Some people are just freaks of nature like that. And no one is taking my steak away from me. If I work my butt off for an entire week, than come home after buying a good cut of beef, and go through the trouble to make everything from the strips of beef to the teriyaki sauce, than I deserve my beef skewers goddangit!
I was having a discussion with a neighbour yesterday about the whole illegal alien thing going on in Europe and how it's going to fuck up the entire EU and change it forever. I told him that if the day ever came where these muslim fucks get into North America and change things so much that it becomes difficult for me to find a glass of beer and a hotdog, that's the day I pick up arms and start hitting government/municipal targets. He laughed and said it wouldn't turn into that to which I told him "Hey, if you told me back in 1983 that it would be illegal for a child to bring a peanut butter sandwich to school, I'd have to you you were fucking nuts". He thought about it for a couple of seconds and said, "You know, you're right!". Funny enough, I read on line that that fucking cult organization know as WHO, has come out saying that meat is bad for you and is like smoking cigarettes. I thought to myself..............oh..........so that's how they're gonna outlaw it!
Fat and meat eaters are too uppity for a one world government.
Need to tamp them down with flouride and carbs
The govt funded health organisations of the world have been highly erratic in its dietary prescriptions over the years.
There are at least two main root causes for their proclamations to be suspect.
Firstly, dietary-related associations with disease are not determined in the same way as other substances. The determination is VASTLY more subjective because virtually all such correlations rely on "food surveys"...which is to say that they ask people about their dietary content. Time and again when compared to objective recording of people's real dietary intake their self-reporting has varied so widely as to be totally useless in making medical conclusions.
Do they lie? Do they really not know? You guess. Probably some of both.
Secondly, the government funding has shown time and again to be a highly prejudicial influence that it is near impossible to know when a legitimate researcher is reporting his research, and when he is pleasing his funding source.
How many times have we seen eggs reported As coronary poison...or hdl savior. How many times have such findings, always presented with the gravest certainty been subsequently reversed? How often have such results most closely tracked the identity of political donors rather than any cohesive research.
Now, none of that means red meat is healthy for you. But why is "processed meat cited, and not simply the source meat itself? What's the difference? Is the act of grinding the meat to make sausage supposed to add evil spirits that were formerly lacking? If it were some preservative, then why did they not test the preservatives exactly as they would test asbestos, or any other suspected carcinogen? And if they have not the scientific rigour to make such a specific conclusion, then why announce any thing at all?
Honestly, is it the hot dog that we know is to blame? Or is it the mustard? Or is it The copious amounts of soda typically consumed with such foods? Or is it toxins in the plastic packaging?
When someone gives you such an ill-defined proclamation about entire categories of food with no scientific controls or discourse of the rigorous methods used to reach such side ranging conclusions, it is because there were no rigorous methods, and hence no science.
Your guess as to whether it was political pressure, ideological blindness, or financial incentive that caused an entire food group to be named a carcinogen is as good as mine.
But don't tell me about your conclusions unless you first cite your methods.
Kirk Douglas is 99. Why?
Only the good die young?
fuck them! I'm not giving up my Kogel hotdogs or my beef and bacon from my local farmers market. As for smokes, i grow my own tobacco.
Apparently, those who eat more red meat have 18% more risk of bowel cancer than those who eat no red meat. However, the increase is something like 5/100 to 6/100. Your overall risk is still relatively small, and the consumption of red meat from time to time just isn't that dangerous. Besides, what else are you going to do with the deer carcass, compost it?
It is about money, that is why they started with cigarette smokers and now they are recording the BMI every time you see your Primary Careless Doctor because in the future the BMI will be used to tax in various ways like with cigarettes.
Those above the law should just put a ban on people and exempt themselves from the law and get it over with already.
Im going to grill me a 1 inch thick ribeye from costco with a side of mashed potatoes slathered with real fucking butter and a side of corn on the cob, a glass of milk and real fuckin peach cobbler. FU WHO
If you only had a real cow to tap, then it would be complete!!
and GMO corn. . . anyone. . . anyone. . . Bueller?
No thanks it doesn't come in popcorn.
Just remember folks that like the climate apocalypse this is just a scam to regulate and control food as medicine or anything else you choose to put into your body.
While the stuffed shirt liars wander around fantasy land attempting to substitute traditional animal husbandry for designer bug ranches, remember that billions of years of evolution designed your teeth to eat a variety of foods - including meat.
If it was a GMO protein slug made from your own excrement you can bet they same secret squirrels would have every child mandated to consume fours courses a day with the parents getting the suppository version.
Scumbags.
Each and every one of them.
I have noticed those folks have a giant carbon footprint as well. The earth is not fragile; if it was we would have destroyed it and ourselves during all the wars long ago. It is disposable and made specifically for mankind. The environmentalist are murders; just look at the banning of DDT which almost eradicated Malaria in Africa and now 50 million dead later....
the earth is bombarded from space with cosmic energy (radiation), this rain of high energy particles can cause mutation of genes and proteins- some of which result in cancers and disease.add local exposure to carcinogens produced in nature(Aflatoxins) enjoy your peanuts? throw in multiple chemicals produced by man, add in arsenic in your water and fluride garnish..well it's all gonna kill you, so eating healthy is a pacifier for many and ignorance of this soup of chemicals keeps people from panic..
living a high tech modern city life is more risky than a goat herder in the middle east until we drone you to death.
be lucky, avoid the haphazard cosmic ray, exposure to aflatoxin, and go ahead and eat what you may - one of the healthiest guys I knew watched all the bad stuff listed by WHO and such experts, never ate meat, exercised like a demon..was recently killed while riding his bicycle for good health. died a very healthy guy..
A good study on this issue is near impossible. Did the meat eaters exercise more or less than average and did the meat eaters consume a healthy quantity of vegetables with their meat? I would question whether the studies were able to isolate the variables which would have been costly and near impossible to accomplish.
All part of Agenda 21 and the Sustainability propaganda based on consensus science, which means advertising and get your wallet out.
A large group of scientists agree that the sun is 93 million miles away. A large group of scientists agree that E=MC2
You would never have the proclaimation and a 100 billion and counting to declare the above; everyone knows it is fact.
When you get the "consensus" you know the science is missing and corruption is at hand. You do not need to sell that which is factual except with one exception. Jesus, the very source of all knowledge.
Riiiight. So they couldn't get the US Food Pyramid successfully changed as it had ulterior ecofascist motives that did not pertain to actual diet. Instead, the WHO makes this announcment just a few weeks later. I like how they caveat it with "processed". Does that mean that non-processed meat was beyond the scope of this study, or not coorellated with cancer? Lets go down that rabbit hole, bitchez.
War on Cow
Eat more chicken or dogs (they taste like chicken). Eat your children. Eat your shorts. Eat your cat. Eat your tree. Just eat in moderation. Ban all food. Tell them to all eat shit.
Agenda 21
Meat bad.
GMO crops good.
Quality cuts of lean red meat are loaded with amino acids and the highest quality proteins which build red blood cells, repair damaged DNA and synthesis RNA. This is old news in the scientific community. After I had a eight hour surgery {which was somewhat complicated}, I returned home a borderline anemic. I had a roast prepared with fresh veggies, and in three days I was back to my old self again {well, 90%}. There is no substitute for responsible consumption of quality red meats. Processed meats are another story. The fat and nitrates found in them are truly killers. If you have any in your frig, throw it out.
Don't disapgree TOM however I just read a scientific analysis of foods and supplements and their amino acid and protein content, and eggs beat out everything in every category with beef and chicken next in most categories. The anaysis was specifcally aimed at the bodybuidling community so probably skewed in that regard.

He will be dead within 2 years from an overdose of arrogance; a carcinogen.
It's one more part of this https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/topics
Cattle farming is believed by the watermelons to be wasteful and un-sustainable for the vast majority.
There's only one liquid that no human is allergic to which is H2O. There's only one food that no humans are allergic to and that's meat. Put additives into either of those and the story changes.
Wow, Greatest news ever!
I actually put two beautiful medium cut dry-aged rib-eye steaks on the grill tonight to celebrate! Added grille seared sourdough bread (how foul the gluten crowd!), sauteed onions, with rattattoullie and spaghetti squash. Beef prices looking to fall after today's news in the good ol' gulllible USA!
Coffee anyone? (Have the food police fixed the mixed messages on that score yet?)
Yum - yum!
If you have "processed" meat such as cold-cuts, bacon, sausage and the like each and every day, you are already dead from type 2 diabetes, high choleterol and/or obesity. If you just have an occasional grass-fed steak, or stew meat, or pork tenderloin, what's the beef? (pun intended)!
WTF
What is the classification for the junk they are dumping into the air from those planes above?
Sorry I'm late to the comments. I had to take a socialist to Ruth's Chris.
Let me guess:
You paid.
Yup and tipped the nice waitress excessively.
Keep your hands off my scrapple.
I think its a bad quality and artificials in food that kill, real nature`s food should be ok. If the cow was fed on bad stuff then no surprise, chickens from China are also very dangerous.
Politically-driven agenda "science" probably performed by vegans. Our masters, of course, will eat all the red meat they like.
Get to know your farmer! You have a personal relationship with your barber, your mechanic and your accountant for christ's sake. You should absolutely have a personal relationship with your farmer. Know where your food comes from. We encourage people to come look at our animals before buying them. You should too. You are what you eat, just as the animals are what they eat. If they eat shit, monsanto garbage and live in terrible conditions it will make it into you. Flesh to flesh, blood to blood, those animals are you. Don't support concentration camp food.
We are human beings, act like one.
If you like this kind of thing, help support your local permaculture community and other polyculture farms. We compost our enemies.
Farmers are underappreciated in the world, really.
Consuming products contains always certain risk. risk reward ratio will prevale.
The WHO is absolutely awesome - right up there with Kevin Trudeau!
Yes they are ! just like telling us sun tanning is a carcinogen. Most don't realize that lack of sun CAUSES skin cancer. The depopulation plan is in full swing. They are tricking us into getting even less vitamin D by telling us this. Crafty tactic.
Meat is ok, it's the round up and GMO corn the cow ate that's killing you. Ever see a study linking organic grass fed meat and Cancer? Don't think so.
theyoungearth.org
That is not the worst news ever.
The worst news is that eating pussy can also give you cancer.
Michael Douglas says so...
Bruce Dickinson, the singer from Iron Mainden is doing a whole big warning about it.
It is tied to a virus of some sort. I do not remember the details.
Many years ago - scientists fed alar to lab rats. Alar is sprayed on apples to keep them fresher. The moral of the scientist's results was to not drink the equivalent of 5,000 gallons of apple juice every day. This sounds like a lot of liberal vegetarians speculating on what might happen. Acvording to NBC news, the scientists compared meat to smoking - which causes the risk of cancer to go up 2000 per cent. Eating red meat every day gives you a 17% greater chance. I'll risk it!
"This generation of Americans is the first that will have a shorter life expectancy than the previous generation..."
Social Security problem solved. Japan could learn a thing or two.
The 0.01% can keep their money if the poor eat the old.
The world went south Christmas 1913. Before. After. See?
how many vegetarians and vegans get cancer?
It fascinates me how many people twist the story from "processed meat causes cancer" to "meat causes cancer"
The problem is in the processing, which effects many types of food not just meats.
The story does note the difference between red meat and processed meat.
The problem is not only in processing. However, your problem seems to be with processing (information.) Even the title states "probably."
I imagine the problem with red meat today is in how the cow is fed and raised. Those carcinogens don't come from the cow most likely, they come from what it ate, and what it ate was probably a GMO product.
Anti-biotics, drug injections etc. Agreed.
smoke 'em if ya got em
Glyphosate only just barely did not make it to the 'known carcinogenic' list due to pressure. Glyphosate also has shown to be an endocrin disruptor and already dangerous at low dosis. It stays longer in the environment than industry claims and has shown up in human urine and mother's milk.
so if 3 out of 4 guys are fat, and i'm fit, does that mean that for the 1 out of 3 women who aren't fat I am in demand?
actually it's even better than that. the REALLY intelligent females, who are more likely heavier, will hate your guts.
Fit and still very ugly
Only if you have a fat wallet.
Everything seems to cause cancer. Woever is so worried about getting cancer that they won't eat this or do that is a complete moron. YOU ARE GOING TO DIE EVENTUALLY. It's like some people are that dumb that they think they will live forever and will lessen their enjoyment of life to try and reach this impossible goal.
Humans....stupidest species to ever exist.
Is Red Meat – Or FAKE Meat – Killing Us?
Genetically-engineered meat isn’t even tested for human safety.
I'll believe them when they declare the UN/WHO/NWO causes cancer.
Learn from Buddhism & Hinduism :
Start worshipping cows
& follow vegitarianism
Btw time will tell that Buddhists & Hindus are not so Barbarians anyway, they have millenia old culture of vegetarianism (& celibacy) ,
& just look at western culture
(psst .... euroPeons were initially cannibals practicing soul harvesting witchcraft)
Roots! Bloody Roots! You should remind your muslim refugee minions amd their semitic cousins about a little European history, and what happens when Euro tribes go on the warpath.
Regarding meat; Sodium Nitrite/Nitrate is carcenogenic. The shit they feed CAFO cows is carcinogenic.
The shit they add to the water supply is poison. Glyphosphate is poison. Sodium Nitrate is poison. Aspartame is poision. All declared 'safe' for maximum profit of course. Cannabis, a non-toxic substance if there ever was one, is also declared 'unsafe' by these evil non human psychopaths.
This study's agenda is part of the UN macro agenda. To level all peasants worldwide. To do that, they have to get us all eating a diet based on porridge.
It is a scientific fact that once humans became domesticated (agriculture) that those humans were smaller, weaker, and less robust than their hunter./gatherer forbears.
Why woundn't the evil fucksticks want us to eat noting but carbs? Flouride, GMOs. high carb diet, easily ruled and less likely to get off the couch and start shooting.
Lean, high T healthy men don't have that problem. Can't have a bunch of white men being lean, healthy, and high T (see my comment above about Euros on the warpath).
Let's see a study on GMO corn, glyphosphate sprayed wheat, and see if there's any connection between consumption of a low fat high carb diet and any number of chronic diseases../..
Nope. No profit in that.
Downie for you veggie boy. Have you had your testosterone level checked lately?
My Word people are so fucking ignorant.
last time elitist/cronyist WHO recommened something, it was swine flu pandemia "countermeasures" (but not Ebola). know your imagined poison.
