Does Red Meat – or FAKE Meat – Cause Cancer?

George Washington's picture

The World Health Organization said today that eating even unprocessed red meat “probably” causes cancer.

But as we reported in 2012, it may not be red meat – but FAKE meat – that’s killing us.

Specifically, the modern factory farm creates meat that is much higher in saturated fats – and much lower in healthy omega 3s – than traditional grass-fed cows.

Feedlot cows are also dosed with large quantities of antibiotics and estrogen.

Worse, the FDA allows a drug banned in 160 nations and responsible for hyperactivity, muscle breakdown and 10 percent mortality in pigs to be added to animal feed shortly before slaughter.

While the practice of feeding cow parts to other cows – one of the main causes of mad cow disease – has been banned on paper, cow blood “products”, feather meal, pig and fish protein, and chicken manure are all still fed to cows.   Remember – unlike bacteria or viruses – heat does NOT kill the deadly prions which cause mad cow disease. (And cows are fed to  chickens, pigs and fish – which are then fed back to the cows – so cows may end up eating the prions from other cows anyway.)

And yet the government is so protective of the current model of industrial farming that private citizens such as ranchers and meat packers are prohibited from testing for mad cow disease.

And genetically-engineered meat isn’t even tested for human safety. (Read this if you think there is a scientific consensus that gm foods are safe.)

On top of that, there are a slew of meat additives added after butchering.

So yes … factory-farmed, mass-produced red meat may be bad for us.  But that doesn’t necessarily mean that organic, grass-fed meat is …

it matters not.

i have one life only.

i will probably die of something, someday.

therefore, i will eat. i will eat meat, and vegetables, and fruit, and cakes, and ice cream, and garlic, and tapioca drinks, and baklava, and hummus, and pickled pigs feet.....

et cetera.

i mourn my fellow humans who are so weak minded as to be deluded by proclamations of the authoritarians and statists.

i must be strong for them. and i must be strong minded for them. thank you, Lord, for meat that makes me strong. and for vegetables that give me fiber so that i am not too constipated when i eat meat.  Thank you, Lord.

Oh for Fuck's sake....

The WHO and the FDA are owned by BIG FOOD!

They are trying to blame everything on the planet except what is actually killing us:

1. Processed sugars,

2. Guton/carbs.

Why are they attacking meat? Becaue the margin for meat from BIG FOOD is miniscule compared to the margin on:

margarine, cooking oil, potatoes, sugar(soft drinks, sweats of all sorts).

The big money is in the list above because ITS ALL ARITIFICIAL made in a factory.

This is all a slight of hand to take your eye off what is killing you.

Eat as much fat and meat as you want, go NUTS!

Eat all the fruit and vegitables you want....DO NOT drink fruit juice, eat only the WHOLE fruit.

Stay away from sugar (all soft drinks, ALL of them, drink your coffee black), breads, potatoes and rice.

You do the above, you'll live to 90 if your DNA blood line is so inclined. The only down side, for BIG FOOD not you, is that you won't be buying processed junk at Safeway. And BIG FOOD makes money off selling processed junk so they don't want that.

Fuck the WHO.

I had a rueben sandwich with bacon and french fries today.  Would have added an egg and whole milk, but I was full.  Almost 70, no medications, no diseases, arteries are clear and plan on living to 100.

I grew up with asbestos all around, lead in everything and a lot of second had smoke.

I don't get flu shots.

I have read too many of the "it is going to kill you" predictions to take them seriously.

You don't have to buy more than a steak, or a pound of hamburger, or a couple of pork chops. Steak prices are comparable to Publix feed lot beef, and are the best steaks you will ever eat.

The health problems of Americans Is reflected in their diet and their inability to cook real food. Go into any American supermarket and you will find that only about 5 % of the store area is for fresh produce, another 5 % for meat and another 5% for the bakery. The rest of the store is filled with factory chemical treated processed food and dangerous soft drinks. The FDA and the EPA are not to be trusted in determining if the processed food is safe or not.

Alert: Hamburger Helper and slime hamburger mixed together does not make you a cook. You are poisoning yourself and family.

Beef, you could be buying a sick dairy cow that can barely stand on their own. Chicken parts, you could be buying a chicken part from a chicken that has had tumors cut out. Most sausage and pressed meat are a health hazard.

Learn how to cook real food like fresh vegetables, beans, rice and make your own bread.

A smoked ham butt cut will last me over a month.

Before anything becomes legal and put into the food chain, those making the decision at the FDA or EPA should have to have their families force fed vast quantities of any medicine/food chain product being considered for the mass population.

As we are mammals, eating our own species should be very evil . I cannot understand how all the religions based on the Bible ( first commandment  "thou shalt not kill ") encourage all the humans to kill and eat mammals and even to sacrifice sheep on the altar ( especially for muslim feasts) . The Christians, catholic and protestant,  even pretend, during every Sunday mass, to eat Jesus Christ's body ( a piece of bread) and to drink his blood ( a little wine) . The terrible concept seems to come from pure cannibalism. The older I get, the more aware I get of the animals' sufferings .The older I get, the less meat I eat , even poultry and fish .

I understand your sentiment about animals sufferring, but killing an animal for food is not the same as the 6th Commandment, Thou shalt not commit murder; and that's not applicable to follower's of Jesus Christ because His covenant only gave us 2 commandments: You shall have no gods before Me and You shall do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The communion that Christians partake comes from the last supper. Here's a brief, but clear dsecription of what the bread and wine symbolise (it's not cannibalism):

http://www.jesus.org/following-jesus/communion/the-symbolism-of-the-last-supper.html

The fact is that people need animal protein:

http://nutritionstudies.org/animal-vs-plant-protein/

If I had a better computer, I would give you more links, but at least this is a start. My faith tells me that if I had to kill an animal for food rather than buy it at the grocery, it would not be an act against God because He gave us dominion over the animals and created our bodies to require animal protein. But honestly, if I lived on a farm by myself, I would treat all my livestock like pets and we'd all be vegetarians!

On the whole, excepting the reader, of course, we are so far gone as to be unable to imagine a free market doing a much much better job.

The first objection that springs to mind is that people would have to PAY THE FUCK ATTENTION!    True.  This is a lamentable drawback, but don't conclude impossibility because of the past 80 years of government (sorry), dumbass bureacratic training.

Cattle did not evolve in a grain fed environment, they are ruminents and evolved to eat grass.  Feeding cattle things they are not supposed to eat makes them sickly (and yet succulent).

This whole omega-3 thing is misplaced.  Animals need a very very very small quantity of omega-3's for their nervous systems. Eating large quantities of omega-3s is not particularly healthy. While omega-3s are a partial antidote to omega-6 toxicity, it is probably a better idea just to eliminate the omega-6s altogether rather than try to fix the problem by eating omega-3s.  Since cattle are fed a large quantity of omega-6 bearing grain, they too have omega-6 problems, AND it is stored in their fat.

Best purchase I ever made was buying a half of a cow from a local farm.  This small operation raises grass fed cows and has them butchered and packaged locally.  It's cheaper than store bought meat and is so much more flavorfull!  All in all paid about less than $3 a pound for all of it and this includes about 100 pounds of prime cuts of steak and roasts.  If you can swing it I highly recommend this for a family's beef needs.

40 years ago, grass fed cattle created tough meat and gristle within the meat (fat/cartiliage).

40 years ago, grain fed cattle was ideal.

now we have gone full reversal/retard.

It is expensive, but the added expense will help you cut down on consumption. Quality red meat is healthy, but not if you eat 10 pounds per week. Greens, healthy starches and quality grains should be the dominant items on the plate. The meat should be a small portion. Not trying to be a dick. I'm just saying that it has helped me cut down on red meat when I'm paying $7 per pound for ground and $18 for steak. Worth every penny for my family.

You are paying way too much.

Here's how I buy my beef. Every year I go to the local town and country fair which holds a 4H livestock auction. I buy the whole steer which is grass fed. Then I have it butchered locally.

My cost - between $2500 - $3500 per steer (generally depending on the state of the economy). Butchering costs ~$300 to$400.

Now here's the kicker... It's a charity auction. You get to write off the price of the steer on your taxes. Perfectly legal, been doing it for 8 years now since I moved to the Midwest... You'll need 2 deep freezers. 800 to 1000 pounds of beef reuires a lot of frozen storage space.

Standard Disclaimer: I'll keep repeating this until I no longer have to listen to a single ZH'er bitch about beef pricess.

The problem with insisting that meat be organic and grass-fed is that "real" meat is extremely expensive.

Our masters are fine with that, because money is no object for them.

They want that organic, grass-fed steak for themselves and themselves only. The rest of us are expected to be content with gruel, or maybe macaroni and cheese.

Since you asked... my dogs and cats over in 'Murica are fed processed meat, twice a day, every day.  They don't get cancer.  I'm fairly sure it's "real meat", as I'm the one who usually goes out and shoots the deer each season.  I'm also quite sure they are eating the currently vilified "processed meat", since deer don't live Ball canning jars, and meat goes rancid quickly if it is not processed correctly.  If only real world solutions were as simple as the people on the internet claim...
