WhalleyWorld. I too have had Muslim, Pakistani, Indian, African doctors and dentists who went to a great deal of effort to be recognized in Canada. I do not ask what they worship or what they eat as cuisine. Means nothing to me beyond the excellent care I get. Not easy to have education recognized in North America. I knew cab drivers in Vancouver with engineering degrees, teaching degrees who had to jump through levels of exams to be certified in Canada.
But that was very controlled immigration. Not this hundreds of thousands of no ID people crashing the borders. I can understand how people in Germany, Austria etc. feel. i truly can.

BTW, your command of diction becomes truly suspect when you use the term "irrational fear". Hate to break it to you, but all "Emotions" are "Irrational" -- as in "not being able to reason". Emotions come from the mid-brain (the Primate brain evolutionary). Reason comes from the Pre-Frontal Cortex. Totally different processes and brain parts.
FWIW, although modern society has this arrogant pretense that Reason is more legitimate/valid than Emotions or Instincts, in terms of Survival they all have the same legitimacy. Strategy for success to the German peoples with their refugee crisis:
1) Help the Russians help you by openly giving your full support to their efforts in Syria. Make it public that the Germans give broad support to the Russian military to destroy the rest of ISIS in return for negotiated oil and gas price reductions as an incentive and that you will be supporting their efforts to rebuild the Country once the military efforts come to a close.
This includes providing protections to the Syrian, Iraq and Libyan refugees while in Germany and safe return home.
2) Provide any intel to the Russian Federation to eliminate pretexts inside Western Europe and have their intelligence services active inside your Country to eliminate threats inside your own borders from the U.S. and Israel when you officially go "off the reservation"...
3) Throw the Merkel government out the door on it's ass as they are the biggest impediment to your Country's future economic well being.
4) Throw the fucking U.S. military out of your Country for good. After 70 years of occupations the people of Germany both "left" and "right" will stand behind you 100%. Some free literature and information you will want to impart publically for their education and "repatriation"

There will have to be many American service men and women dead until the "trigger alert" gets eliminated... Personally I've always thought the American military are chicken shit since Korea when you compare the disproportionality of the adversaries the U.S. has taken on since 1945. We lost 54,000 service men in the Korean War in 2 years vs. 58,000 in Vietnam over a decade!
Russia ain't gonna be that walk in the park Vietnam was and for that matter Korea either... We're gettin to the deep end of the pool and don't know how to swim. Never gone toe to toe with the bear and I dare say we willl never have the balls that the Germans had fighting them on the Eastern front in WWII. Having said that did we ever in our wildest imagination think we'd see Syria with nearly 260,000 dead and God knows how many in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan in the past 4 years alone?...
