Republicans Declare War On CNBC: Suspend NBC Relationship Over CNBC's "Downright Offensive" Questions

Tyler Durden's picture

Nearly a year after CNBC said it would no longer rely on Nielsen to measure its daytime audience (due to the collapse in viewership we had previously profiled), it has managed to do it again, only this time slamming not the financial cheerleading cable network but its Comcast affiliate, NBC News, whom its just cost hundreds of millions in advertising revenues after moments ago Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Preibus announced he was suspending the partnership with NBC News for the Republican primary debate at the University of Houston on February 26, 2016.

The full letter from RNC Chairman Reince Priebus to NBC News

Mr. Andrew Lack
Chairman, NBC News
30 Rockefeller Plaza
New York, New York 10112

Dear Mr. Lack,

I write to inform you that pending further discussion between the Republican National Committee (RNC) and our presidential campaigns, we are suspending the partnership with NBC News for the Republican primary debate at the University of Houston on February 26, 2016. The RNC’s sole role in the primary debate process is to ensure that our candidates are given a full and fair opportunity to lay out their vision for America’s future. We simply cannot continue with NBC without full consultation with our campaigns.

The CNBC network is one of your media properties, and its handling of the debate was conducted in bad faith. We understand that NBC does not exercise full editorial control over CNBC’s journalistic approach. However, the network is an arm of your organization, and we need to ensure there is not a repeat performance.

CNBC billed the debate as one that would focus on “the key issues that matter to all voters—job growth, taxes, technology, retirement and the health of our national economy.”  That was not the case. Before the debate, the candidates were promised an opening question on economic or financial matters. That was not the case. Candidates were promised that speaking time would be carefully monitored to ensure fairness. That was not the case.  Questions were inaccurate or downright offensive. The first question directed to one of our candidates asked if he was running a comic book version of a presidential campaign, hardly in the spirit of how the debate was billed.

While debates are meant to include tough questions and contrast candidates’ visions and policies for the future of America, CNBC’s moderators engaged in a series of “gotcha” questions, petty and mean-spirited in tone, and designed to embarrass our candidates. What took place Wednesday night was not an attempt to give the American people a greater understanding of our candidates’ policies and ideas.

I have tremendous respect for the First Amendment and freedom of the press. However, I also expect the media to host a substantive debate on consequential issues important to Americans. CNBC did not.

While we are suspending our partnership with NBC News and its properties, we still fully intend to have a debate on that day, and will ensure that National Review remains part of it.

I will be working with our candidates to discuss how to move forward and will be in touch.

Sincerely,

Reince Priebus
Chairman, Republican National Committee

Re coinhead:  "From the few minutes we saw of the debate, the whole setup and attitude of the moderators was like American Idol.  Fuck teh liberal establishment"

But the democrates get a totally different treatment and attitude.  For the dems it is, all of you are good guys but who is best.  For the repubs it is all of you are evil and we shall prove it.

I do not care for either.  The same people pull the strings behind the curtain.

But I think it is funny that the repubs set themselves up for this.  How could the repubs go on CNN or CNBC, allow "moderators" like these ask the questions and why did they stand there and take it.  As a group they should have said, to hell with this staged attack we are walking out of here as a group.

the strange part is that the cnbc commentators acted no differently than they normally do, which is why their viership is down.

Basically its an infomercial for peoples books and investment management companies.

did anyone not know that Santelli would ask a serious question that also reflected his views? The others also asked question that reflected their views that they just do not like the conservatve approach. ?

When will someone ask  the question of how long will it take to payback the 19 trillion of interest bearing debt assuming curent debt increase of around 800 billion continues? Even with near zero interest.

Then when will somone follow up on Christies (apparently true) assertion that Social Security and Medicare run out of money in 7-8 years; Harvard and Dartmouth said 6-7 years a year ago, when tax receipts were higher.

Bigger question is when will anyone elected tell the people the truth.

I watched; curiosity. The first disappointment was not seeing Santelli as a moderator; then, he's brought up and given one question. The Fed was his question base and his handoff was to Rand Paul; who fumbled. Rand's father would have brought out his book from under the podium; "End the FED" Most people I talked to said they missed the Santelli question. For me; the only highlight of the shitshow. I won't watch another.

Agreed.  Bush is a smart cookie, but out of his element on the big stage under the microscope....and Trump knocked him completely off his game.  He lacks street smarts, having never been hungry for anything and generally dealing with others of similar backgrounds, or suck ups.

Regardless, unless they figure out a way to rig the elections like he did for his brother, he won't get the votes to be elected dog catcher.  Even the Republicans have rejected the Bushes, and if he somehow made it onto the ticket, the Democraps would have a huge turnout against him in the general election.  Clinton would win in a landslide while disgusted, disenfranchised Repugnants stayed home.

I do believe the Bush dynasty is done, at least until the next generation, but never fear, they still have their tentacles dug deep in the energy biz, the MIC, and banking.

Just cause we don't see 'em don't mean they ain't there.

Texas is home field for both Jeb and Ted Cruz. Ted and his family live in Houston. The Bushies would be quite disconcerted to have Jeb drubbed by Ted and watch the crowd cheer wildly.

Jeb is in a bad way. Texas has 38 electoral votes. Ted would beat Jeb here. Florida has 29 electoral votes. Marco Rubio might get the favorite son vote there.

There may be something evil planned for the state GOP conventions. A lot depends on who is allow onto the rules committees.

Jeb may wish to spend more time in California and do his pandering there.

They changed the primary rules for Bushie. Now, they're gonna have to kill Trump.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2014/01/24/gop-adopts-changes-to-20...

"After the first four states vote and the campaigns move into March, candidates would be awarded delegates on a proportional, rather than winner-take-all, basis. The scenario is designed to allow insurgent candidates(Bushie or Rubio after some dirt is released by NBC?) the chance to stay competitive and prove their campaign mettle in larger states that might otherwise favor better-funded candidates."

Bushie said he could get the nomination w/o the base of bitter clingers.

Actually, I think this has more to do with Ron Paul. If you watched the roll call voting at the last GOP national convention, you would have seen that many of the states voted proportionally, but the votes were announced from the podium and recorded as winner take all. Texas had a worthy number of delegate votes for Ron Paul. Our party chair had his microphone cut while he was trying to report those votes. The Ron Paul delegates from our state senatorial district came back and debriefed. It made for an interesting meeting.

One thing that is really ugly IMO are the rules for write-in candidates that are now in force. Those rules carve in stone the dominance of the two-party system. If a voter writes in a name for someone who is not on the ballot and has not filed as a write-in candidate, that vote will not be counted. This may make for more orderly elections, but it subverts the notion of a grassroots movement.

At this point in the progression of Imperium Americanum, should the job of CEO of the militarist-imperialist, rentier-socialist corporate-state not just be given to Jeb the Bushman with a purple toga/robe and laurel wreath.

Why make him work so hard and embarass himself for a thankless, powerless job?

Better yet, declare the imperial state a moronocracy and invite the Kardashians to move in to the White House for the next four or eight years. I'm sure they could do no more harm to the economy and society than their predecessors to date.

Jews have learned well from history, which is why they're repeating their rise to disporportionate imperial influence and power as they did under the Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Khazars, and later in Europe in the deaces prior to the Nazis.

However, this time around they will be the Nazis using financial wealth, media messaging, and the state's power and authority to use violence to crush its challengers.

It's what self-superior, self-satisfied sociopaths do.

As Huxley posited, we have been conditioned for decades now to accept the coersion and love our servitude, such that we are effectively being amused to death. Jews, as the plantation managers of empire, are masters of conditioning us to love (or at least acquiesce to) our neo-feudal servitude.

Republicans have been complaining about media bias for decades now, but none of the "Baby Boomer" politiicans would ever speak up against it directly, they would never actually fight back.  This sort of collegialism is a curse on progress and anathema to getting your agenda through.

All it took was one non-Boomer to speak the truth and things moved.  It is all theater, but even so after a few decades the old act is stale and we need a new one.  Maybe even a new play entirely.

The media in America sucks but CNBC is one of the suckiest dumbing down comedies. Inotice Nat'l Propaganda Radio is morphing into a biased distortion of the issues station also in recent years. Few of their regular hosts question their guests' idiotic statements.

The other day some"journalist" said "the Syrian people want us there" and later, "the majority of American people now want Barry to send troops."

WTF?!

Pathetic.

RINO assumes that Republicans have ever been different than they are now, or that Republicans represent things that they have never done.  They have pulled the wool over the eyes of their base up to now, and now they are facing a revolt.  It's time to recognize that Republicans are the same as Democrats and pursuing the same end; they want to "govern", which is to control your life.

Republicans are not going to shrink government and they are not going to kill their anti-Freedom laws such as the laughably titled "Patriot Act".

So RINO is a hopeful delusion.  They are what they are, and what they always will be.

There are ZERO democratic debates on, Fox, Fox News or Fox Business.  So there should be zero republican debates on NBC,CBS,MSNBC,CNN.  The republcians should should talk Roger Ailes into have a debate on Fox Network(hosted by Fox News) instead and that can be the republican debate on broadcast national network tv and call it a day.

Or if they were real smart they would not bother with Network TV at all and bypass NBC,ABC,CBS totally and just host it themselves, offer it free to re-broadast by independent stations, public broadcasting, fox affiliates, and streaming on YouTube, CSPAN and FoxNews for free.  They are total and complete fools if they still think this is the 1960s and you have to have a broadcast on NBC/ABC/CBS in order to reach people.

AND WHO SAID that these things should always be moderated by idiot talking heads from news organizations?

Republican voters would learn more about who they are wanting to vote for by having REAL conservative thinkers dive into the real issues with the candidates because they actually know what they are talking about to a deep level, and not some talking head from network news. Isn't that the real reason to have primary debates for REPUBLICAN primary voters to learn more about the candidates, not for democrat voters? Otherwise don't bother.

"Republican voters would learn more about who they are wanting to vote for by having REAL conservative thinkers dive into the real issues with the candidates... "

You talk as though real issues would ever be discussed.

You talk as though voting for a Republican or democrat would actually change anything more than the deck chairs.

how about bobby slay, paula deen and ina gaarten as moderators.  The Food Network is just as valid for "serious" questions as msnbc

I'll take the Food Network any day over this political theater.

They have real contests on the Food Network.  The go at each other, work their tails off, everything is right out in the open, and there are winners and losers as people are constantly judged and eliminated.

Maybe the debates should be elimination contests, too.  At the end, the moderators critique each performance and then the audience could call in for your favorite, then we could get rid of some of the egoists polling 1-5%.

In all seriousness, there is no way to have a real debate among 10 people on stage, even if you had good moderators, which we haven't seen yet from any of the news stations.  Let's face it, the news readers on TV are largely just toadies sucking up to their guests and delivering per-prepared pablum ti the audience.  I hear them make mistakes and tell outright falsehoods on a regular basis.

Fox is just as bad as NBC.  All of them are commie oriented and truly want the Hillarybeast elected.  That 'debate' was a game changer for the republicans.  None of that would have happened had not Trump first opened the PC floodgates a few months ago, by the way.  Republican candidates have Trump to thank. And they know that and it's evident, since many of them have begun to show a pair, a la Donald Trump.  And I don't give a flying horsefuck if you agree or not.  How's that for PC?

Well, the GOPee can do their debates on Bloomberg from now on.

That should have Mr. Bloomberg punch his ticket to get his Station picked up by Basic Packages of Cable/Sat providers and allow for PBS Simulcast Deals (for the next debates).

So long CNBC...

Full Disclosure: I did a short stint at Bloomberg filling in for the Earnings Season Reports.  At that time, they tend to hire from (low paying jobs) and promote from within - rarely an external / lateral hire (I'm presuming that there are exceptions for Talking Heads and a few key positions).  All the Financial Analytics Positions were filled at that location - though I bet no one on the Analytics Team in NJ was a full fledged Math Geek from a Quant/Engineering School.

That's where I also encountered the JW/Mormon Cult monkeys too.  I interview I had with one of them revealed that they were just fishing for info from experienced people; and another looked like a relative from someone who was in trouble back in my days in Annapolis (Honor Board - I don't think he graduated).

It also matches the profile and declared acts of one Cult Group which had been stalking me since 1997.  One Mitzrahi(Iranian-ME) Rabbi / Druze Clergy(? - Lebaneze Druze were allegedly involved)  at Sinai Temple in Wilshire (Los Angeles) mentioned that loud enough for most people to hear.  FUNNY how the Conservative Rabbis (Rabbonim) covered for them.  Freemasonry Handshake?  Possibly - seen it done during a Torah Procession.

With all that foul playing side game (not to mention every Jew4Jesus/Christian Deprogrammer/Saboteur/Mormon-JW Proselityzer/Moonie Stalkers sticking their nose into my business to make money off of my work), it's no wonder that I've put my study on Judaism (Theism via Judaistic Worldview and Documentation) on Hold.

Tall Fences make for good neighbors. No matter how one presents it - though it may have been a "House of Prayer before All Nations" when they had a Temple and a Priesthood (as well as Services for Gentiles) - it's strictly an Ethnic Religion Now and Forevermore; and converts are targeted for Screw Jobs or diminished roles apparently.   I've a few people I'd talk to; and would trust an upright Modern Orthodox, Sephardi, or a Reform Temple attendee before any other Jewish Group regarding any matter.  Hebrew Christian/J4Js?  Absolutely the Worst of Both Worlds.  Their Leadership keep LYING to their Sheeple about their Churches being considered as a Legitimate Jewish "Sect" (never happening - every Rabbi I've spoken with across the board laughed or shaked their heads) in Israel or abroad.   I've never seen so many rude people at Worship Services than what I've encountered at Hebrew Xian/J4J and Conservative Congregations; and I've volunteered to help out as an Usher during Conserviative Sabbath Services when I studied as well.  Some J4Js (including attorneys - from one group who meet in Beverly Hills (the other at Irvine and San Diego) - IIRC, their Leader was a Prof at Fuller Seminary) were boasting and taunting me about sabotaging a few of my Lawsuits I had pending.
