Good Little Maoists

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Howard Kunstler via Kunstler.com,

Sometimes societies just go batshit crazy.

For ten years, 1966 to 1976, China slid into the chaotic maw of Mao Zedong’s “cultural revolution.” A youth army called the Red Guard was given license to terrorize authorities all over the nation — teachers, scientists, government officials, really just about anyone in charge of anything. They destroyed lives and families and killed quite a few of their victims. They paralyzed the country with their persecutions against “bourgeois elements” and “capitalist roaders,” reaching as deep into the top leadership as Deng Xiaoping, who was paraded in public wearing a dunce-cap, but eventually was able to put an end to all the insanity after Mao’s death.

America’s own cultural revolution has worked differently. It was mostly limited to the hermetically-sealed hot-house world of the universities, where new species of hierophants and mystagogues were busy constructing a crypto-political dogma aimed at redefining status arrangements among the various diverse ethnic and sexual “multi-cultures” of the land.

There is no American Mao, but there are millions of good little Maoists all over America bent on persecuting anyone who departs from a party line that now dominates the bubble of campus life. It’s a weird home-grown mixture of Puritan witch-hunting, racial paranoia, and sexual hysteria, and it comes loaded with a lexicon of jargon — “micro-aggression,” “trigger warnings,” “speech codes,” etc — designed to enforce uniformity in thinking, and to punish departures from it.

At a moment in history when the US is beset by epochal problems of economy, energy, ecology, and foreign relations, campus life is preoccupied with handwringing over the hurt feelings of every imaginable ethnic and sexual group and just as earnestly with the suppression of ideological trespassers who don’t go along with the program of exorcisms. A comprehensive history of this unfortunate campaign has yet to be written, but by the time it is, higher education may lie in ruins. It is already burdened and beset by the unintended consequences of the financial racketeering so pervasive across American life these days.

But in promoting the official suppression of ideas, it is really committing intellectual suicide, disgracing its mission to civilized life.

some PC English twat posted a self-loathing paean to Carlos and Tommie Smith’s "raised fist" gesture at the 1968 Summer Olympics:

"It’s a historic photo of two men of color. For this reason... I never really paid attention to the other man, white, like me, motionless on the second step of the medal podium. I considered him as ....a random presence, an extra in Carlos and Smith’s moment, or.... a kind of intruder. Actually, I even thought that that guy – who seemed to be just .....a simpering Englishman represented, in his.... icy immobility, the will to resist the change that Smith and Carlos were invoking in their silent protest. But I was wrong" (before going on to say that the author later found out "icy whitey" was a actually a righteous 'freedom fighter' or some silly shit like that) -

I responded:

Political Correctness is the secular humanist version of Puritan Christianity, with its adherents always trying to prove, viciously, how righteous they are....PC is bullying for pussies.

PC poster baited with:

"Interesting argument. I take it you have an alternative as well?"

Me: "i doubt one that would satisfy...after all you posted this PC tripe. '...A simpering, immobile, random, intruder'?.....you have to be colon deep into your own political correctness to ignore the irony of "pre-judging" someone (an Englishman in this case) based on the color of his skin in an attempt to make yourself look broad-minded and magnanimously righteous with regard to black people....as I said: an ignobly dick-tastic feat"

the next response brought forth the CLASSIC PC tactic of 'dismissiveness', check it out:

"Eileen. Don't you just love cyber bullying American style. Perhaps in his context since he seems devoid of kindness ill just say "colonial". He does seem to use our language in a most intriguing yet non scholarly way whilst convinced he is presenting a cogent argument. So the usual mix of pity and contempt imho"

I think it's actually usefull to go sailing into these hermetic little PC picnics and I do so at every opportunity.

Update:

I just saw this response from the "author"

Some people from England wrote me, angry because a used the expression “simpering englishmen”.

Yes, I used it. I used to explain another kind of stereotiph, a stupid semplification even I was doin’, when I was younger and I looked at that photo, keepin’ my eyes to those beautiful, strong black men and don’t lookin’ at the white man, like he didn’t exist.

My eyes, like the eyes of all the world, they were all taken by those fist up in the air and I didn’t even notice the color of the uniform, green, instead of the white english uniform. My expression tried to explain how wrong we all can be just takin’ a look at a photo and judge without think.

I think in Italian version my ironic tone was more clear and I’m sorry if someone couldn’t understand it and felt hurt.

The last thing.

I received a lot of thankful and lovely messages through mail and social network from all over the world.

I also received some offences, that was predictable.

Yesterday  a young man wrote me this racist message: “Go fuck yourself, dago piece of shit”. (lol)

I think it clearly explains how still long is this road"

The PC gimp might have got out of the box 40 years ago, but it really started running wild on campuses in the late 80s and early 90s. Now it's sitting comfortably in the Dean's office, smoking cigars and sexually molesting children, while commanding legions of lobotomized 19-year-olds to do its foul bidding.

In the not-too-distant past, Williams College used to have a Dean of Admissions who earned the moniker 'pecker checker' (whom I will refer to as 'PC', just cuz it's SO relevant here) for his proclivity to cruise the men's locker room @ shower time.  I worked for a fellow who happened to live next to PC (unbeknowst to me).  We were shooting the shit after work one day out in his yard, and my boss mentions how his neighbor has an unusal visual interest in my boss's son.  I asked who the neighbor was, and he mentioned it was the Williams College Dean of Admissions.  No shit, I said.  Let me tell you what I know about your neighbor, I said, and I think you'll agree, he's very 'PC'.  For years, I'd often wondered why the men @ Williams were more attractive than the women.  My guess?  PECKER CHECKER, from his post as Dean of Admissions, helped stack the deck

Proceeds to kill off all possible resistance.

Attains a liking for killing.

Continues even when all opposition is dealt with.

Really, no proof that Mao killed 45 million and was a horrible human.  Here are the details:

Mao's Great Leap Forward 'killed 45 million in four years'

Mao Zedong, founder of the People's Republic of China, qualifies as the greatest mass murderer in world history, an expert who had unprecedented access to official Communist Party archives said yesterday.

Speaking at The Independent Woodstock Literary Festival, Frank Dikötter, a Hong Kong-based historian, said he found that during the time that Mao was enforcing the Great Leap Forward in 1958, in an effort to catch up with the economy of the Western world, he was responsible for overseeing "one of the worst catastrophes the world has ever known".

State retribution for tiny thefts, such as stealing a potato, even by a child, would include being tied up and thrown into a pond; parents were forced to bury their children alive or were doused in excrement and urine, others were set alight, or had a nose or ear cut off. One record shows how a man was branded with hot metal. People were forced to work naked in the middle of winter; 80 per cent of all the villagers in one region of a quarter of a million Chinese were banned from the official canteen because they were too old or ill to be effective workers, so were deliberately starved to death.

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/news/maos-great-le...

Mao was a sexual predator:

  • Mao “was happiest and most satisfied with several young women simultaneously sharing his bed,” Li writes. “He encouraged his sexual partners to introduce him to others for shared orgies, allegedly in the interest of his longevity and strength.”
  • Mao chose handsome young men as personal attendants, who among other duties were expected to massage his groin nightly to help him fall asleep. “For a while I took such behavior as evidence of a homosexual strain,” Li says, “but later I concluded that it was simply an insatiable appetite for any form of sex.”
  • Mao was a carrier of a parasitic STD but refused treatment, spreading the disease among his partners. He further refused to bathe or clean his genitals, receiving only nightly rubdowns with hot towels. “I wash myself inside the bodies of my women,” he told Li. For what it’s worth, he apparently also never brushed his teeth. This may not sound like a kink to you, but you didn’t have to kiss him.

So, was the great leader a sexual predator? Yeah. Pedophile? No. Virgin deflowerer? Probably on occasion, but there’s little evidence it was a regular thing. These may be fine points, but that’s what we do.

Roving youth gangs shooting people with guns are so old-school.  Blunt, direct, dramatic.  But bloody slaughter of opponents totally clashes with the storyline.  Kinda breaks the people-loving image a government endeavors to project to rally support.

The much more sophisticated, modern version is first redistribute 80% of earnings away from the productive who are opponents, to the unproductive who are supporters using cripplingly heavy direct and indirect taxes, and giveaways and subsidies.  Then, raise the cost of health care 5x higher than it would otherwise be.

This achieves the same result, only indirectly, imperceptibly, at the margins, over time, via "natural causes."

Trigger warnings and all these new fangled virwpoints are kinda new to mental health. New to this old dinosaur and my dinosaur partner anyway. In the old days the goal of psychiatry was to help people overcome adversity and toughen up so they could be more competitive and handle the real world. Or tone it down a bit if you were too much of a narcissistic ass for your own good but the former is more common than the latter. These more modern social workers are seemingly training people that the world has to change to accommodate the "victim" and the victim's disabilities rather than help the person get their game back up to speed and toughen up a bit. I never did like the victim mentality. In this new era things are a bit different.

Blacks shouldn't have to speak standard English to succeed. All kinds of minorly separatist cultures are capable of succeeding in our society - that's the entire point of having weak government and pluralism. The question of why they're not succeeding does come back to systemic, racist oppression designed to keep blacks from participating fully in the national economy. They've been experiencing this persecution for decades. And the moment white, middle class America suddenly has to put up with the shit blacks have been putting up with for all this time, they at least get vociferously angry before submitting.

Don't just downvote - make a fucking rebuttal, you chickenshit fake conservatives.

Have you really never gone to a Chinatown restaurant where the waitstaff is barely comprehensible (if that,) and ended up getting out-of-this-world good food? Why should black American enclaves be any different? How do these restaurants interact with their vendors? I dunno. How do they communicate conerns with their landlords? I dunno. But here's what I do know - they have great food, I have hard cash, and I could give a damn how they got into this country or how good a conversationalist I find them. There's a reason blacks haven't been successful like these Chinese. And it has to do with fucking tyranny. The government creates failed states everywhere it intervenes - why should the inner cities be any different?

I design for a living.

A while back I was working with a Chinese guy.

He kept apologising for his poor English.

"Keep trying. Your English is WAY better than my Chinese!' was my reply.

Where I work, we have a good bunch.

German, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Jamaican, Brit and a couple of Canadians. There was a Phillipino guy for a while, but he moved out of town.

Christmas Pot Luck is fucking AWESOME!

The reason the waitstaff is barely comprehensible is probably because they have only been in the US speaking (or trying to speak) english for a year or so. Now, juxtapose that against these black enclaves who were fucking born here and still are too fucking lazy to even speak in complete sentences or with words that are even in the dictionary? Hell, they are their own worst enemy. No one outside of the slums has to do anything to keep them down, they do it on their own and to their own kind.

"The question of why they're not succeeding does come back to systemic, racist oppression designed to keep blacks from participating fully in the national economy."

"There's a reason blacks haven't been successful like these Chinese. And it has to do with fucking tyranny."

The Chinese were herded into Chinatowns and excluded from the national economy and yet they still prospered.  The Chinese were hated, but not as much as Blacks.  Why?  I'll take a guess.  Chinese commit few violent acts and do not live on the dole.

The Chinese also have a culture that values family, education, the time value of money and community.  And higher IQs.

As for systematic racism, where is this "system"?  Point it out.  What institutions in this country support racism?

HUH? So the govt. is tyrannizing inner city blacks with massive welfare. If they didn't get massive welfare, it would constitute oppression, discrimination aka tyranny. There's no winning with you.

You should try going to southern Africa if you really want to understand today's blacks. Too tired to offer an anthropological discourse, but you would find it enlightening, I guarantee, and your thought process would change forever.

there is a method to the madness:

“…But I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They DON’T want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that, that doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests. That’s right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out how badly they’re getting F#CKED by a system that threw them overboard 30 f#ckin’ years ago. They don’t want that. You know what they want? They want OBEDIENT WORKERS. OBEDIENT WORKERS. People who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork, and just dumb enough to passably accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime, and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it.”

Seinfield was right of course. Sensitive whiny little beeyatches they have become.

Dan Jones, past president of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors, seems to agree with this assessment. In an interview for the Chronicle article, he said:

“[Students] haven’t developed skills in how to soothe themselves, because their parents have solved all their problems and removed the obstacles. They don’t seem to have as much grit as previous
generations.”

A few don't.

Only the few ever change anything.

Some for the better, some for the worse.

The latter seem to be winning at the moment.

As a university student myself, this is 100% spot on. It doesn't matter what facts you throw at them, they are fixated on madness mantras given to them by politicians. They forget the time honored rule that the more centralized authority is the more corrupt it becomes and that people always act in private interest, especially politicians. Your politican is not for you.

The blowback will be ugly. Mass Riots, chaos, murder, rape, etc. But eventually the truth will shine through and things will move back into the other direction. The key is to survive the fall of Rome and wait until humanity is once again sane after the insane finish killing each other.

The fall of Rome was not an event, it was a process.

A friend of mine found an old hitory text book printed in 1955. I was born in '55.

It is obviously a teacher's copy with notes in the margin and a couple of old test papers folded in that still have the smell of those old hand-cranked copying devices.

Reading the stuff about the fall of Rome, I just kept thinking that you could replace Rome with USA and it was suddenly no longer history.

Thing is, Rome took a while to fall, largely due the rate at which information moved about the planet.

I think the fall of USA will likely happen on the same 'information transfer' scale.

I think the process has begun.

Fasten your seat belts.

If capitalist democracy leads to this kinda financial chaos, debtocracy, unaffordability of anything , students turning to prostitution to afford education , elected politicians working for election fund raising capitalists, cabals & banksters who draft govt policy, students opting to join army to pay debt, CIA & US military conspiring to change govts all over the world with the help of NGOs led mass protestors or by force by arming rebels & terrorists , ec etc

then capitalism is surely evil because it is based on money worship , not values.

One of Kunstler's best and most eloquent pieces, probably prompted by the fact that he was responding to academics and it involved what he does now for a living.

But the problems with universities and other such institutions started back in the 1960's. Enoch Powell described the phenomenon as "the thing", a break down of order where we saw incidences like the universities being disrupted by violent activists, but the blame was always put on the university authorities themselves.

This spread elsewhere in society, and now it is taken as the norm, if there is a riot then the police authorities get the blame, a prison disturbance and the prison authorities. Even though only a small number of people are involved in these disturbances they never get the blame, it is always the ones in charge.

All of this eats away at the legitimacy and authority of these institutions and in the end we get dysfunctional junk that makes no sense anymore running out societies, like police in Baltimore who purposely try to avoid crime because to get involved will be trouble for them, hence we saw the murder rate increase after the protests.
