Santelli Slams Protesters Blockading CME As Traders Unload On "Soros Paid Morons"

Tyler Durden's picture

The entrance to The CME has been blocked for most of the morning by "Soros-paid Morons" according to one trader. Rick Santelli has a few opinions on the apparently ill-informed protesters' actions, and concluded, "It would be sad commentary - based on what the politicians have done with the budget - to chase more companies out of Illinois."

The CME is being blocked...

Bouroudjian adds some color...

Santelli explains...

But it appears the police are preparing to disburse the crowd...

Fahque Imuhnutjahb,

Hard to believe that you have 26 up votes and none down. Wonder if some readers missed your point.

Anyway, Santelli is hopeless disconnected—An Emperor that has no clothes.

This old post by Cognitive Dissonance summarizes it pretty well:

The absolute best controlled opposition is one that doesn't know they are controlled. The way I see it Santelli's problem (shared by the vast majority in the financial field of which I am a part) is that he honestly believes in the system itself and feels that it has been hijacked and corrupted. In other words, just remove the cancerous tissue and the body will be fine.

Sorry Rick........but the system can never be cancer free. The system IS the cancer.

Hope that CME dies today so that the Gold and Silver Market manipulation will stop.

The manipulators are powerless without their willing stooges and all CME Traders, as they are the willing stooges, need to be CRUCIFIED.

Burn the CME into ashes and hang Jeffery Christian from a lamppost.

Then move it over to the Hamptons in New York and burn it...to the ground.

When white people riot they do not burn down their own neighborhoods. We burn down yours.

Actually I liked Chicago, where I lived for 20+ years, including some down on the floor, but I left when it was clear it was going to go down in flames.

But the real problem lies in Washington DC and NYC, as well as some foreign cities where various Primary Dealers, Central Banks and SWFs live.  Of course the people protesting there today wouldnt have a clue about all that.

And to the antisnark behind the computer guy, I have protested in the public square as well as writing snark so we arent all just desk jockeys sitting on our asses.

when I saw the Madigana and Cullerton sign, then the Rauner sign it became clearer.

Madigan and Cullerton are old school Chicago Machine

Rauner is trying to fix things.

The Old school and liberals believe the excesses &  promisses should be covered by higher and higher taxes. Screw them all.

Chicago and Cook Cty were always liberal machine bastions and the pols got in bed with the unions . Ask about Streets and sanitation in chicago. 7 man crews to fix a pothole. 2 junior guys work and the other 5 stand and BS.

I remember the dealmaking well. I grew up in the "hood" and knew the families in the machine. There were no problems as longas you "took care" of teh people". A little smear here and there went a long way.

Now theres no money--the city demograpics are low income and teh youth just startign out. The rich have condoes in the city but have residence in FL or TX or NV to save on taxes. Chicago and Illinois not going to be able to come back without concessions from unions. Don't hold your breath waiting. It wil take bankrupcy and court rulings.

I don't know enough about all this, but Santelli doesn't need to get too sanctimonious trying to tell people how the economy should operate.  Maybe he needs to explain how financializing everything that moves in this country, while shifting production off shore and destroying the middle class, is the way things should be in a sound economy.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Activists with Moral Mondays Illinois are protesting at the Chicago Board of Trade to demand a tax on financial trading in Chicago. The protest comes less than a week after the City Council approved Mayor Rahm Emanuel's budget, which includes a $588 million property tax increase.

"You and I will soon pay 10.25 percent sales tax at the store," said Toby Chow of Fair Economy Illinois. "Right now, big banks and corporations buying stocks and futures in Chicago don't pay a cent. A tiny sales tax amounting to less than .002 percent of the average contract value would scarcely be noticed by the big corporations, but it would generate billions of dollars for vital resources that we need in our communities."

Is this the Illinois that hasn't had any net job growth for over 15 years while taxes increase to support a bloated cost structure? This looks like Mike Madigan got the cronies out for some headlines--raise taxes. Rahm just passed a massive tax increase, too, that doesn't even balance the budget in Chicago. Where are the people who are willing about cutting costs and improving effectiveness/efficiency while making long term positive return investments?

Mon, 11/02/2015 - 15:33 | 6740542 swmnguy
swmnguy's picture

That's pretty hilarious.  Where are those "people who are willing about cutting costs and improving effectiveness/efficiency while making long term positive return investments," indeed.

They're not working in a ZIRP and NIRP environment, for one thing.  You can't do public finance over a long period of time without a functional bond market.  The problem is very basic.  You can't base a system on debt at interest as money without infinite growth.  You can't have infinite growth on a finite planet.  Nobody will take on new debt at interest today if they don't think they'll have more money tomorrow to pay that debt.  If they won't take on the debt, money can't be created the organic way.  So it has to be printed.  With the consequences we see all around.

A major reason the cost structure in Chicago, Illinois, the rest of the US, and the rest of the world (increasingly so) is that a lot of the calculations used to set up that structure assumed 5%-8% annual bond income.  Make that 0.5-3% instead, and public finance pukes.  If long-term investment means inevitable losses due to interest rates well below inflation, then the base costs have to be paid out of today's money.  So taxes have to go up, or expenditures have to collapse.  There's a reason we have those costs.  Before we had those costs, we had regular economic collapses and social upheaval.  The "nanny state" was established by the Elites to keep order.  Then they decided they didn't want to pay for that order, so they pushed the costs lower on the socio-economic scale.  The Middle Classes never could foot that bill; it's just taken until recently for that to become inescapably obvious.  So they cooked the books again, and again and again.  Now the created crisis is coming to a head, once again.  Time for some more book-cooking.

Because the last thing the Elites will allow is people to come up with ways to cut costs and improve effectiveness/efficiency while making long term positive return investments.  That erodes the privileges of the Elites, and they're not going to have that.

Maybe the crack about Soros paid Morons refers to the trader's awareness that George's son heads up a new thing called bitgold - a rival to the CME.

George, funding more 'open democracy' while  secretly lining his family's pockets? Whodathunk it from the man who admits being a young Nazi in his native Hungary and helping steal from fellow jews...

And why is the guy at the center of one photo wearing a blanket over his shoulders? Bizarre...

Yes , because protesting traders not paying enough in taxes while raking in bid ask spreads while schools and communities go broke is so horrible.

What's the connection between local government school funding and trading on an exchange in another city.  What is the source of funding for a "community"?

Wait... Soros just admitted

“Our plan treats the protection of refugees as the objective and national borders as the obstacle.”. Mail to bloomberg buisness

So that thing is to show that he is against the traders, therefore a good guy, and so his plan to take down the borders of europe is good too. btw your acting is moronic santelli

And Soros wtf who gave you the right to intervene everywhere you please, undeadable blood sucker?

The problem with the CME is not how much they are taxed, but the fact that the whole business has devolved into a fraud of naked options trading aided and abetted by the market makers themselves, shamefully settling in cash to cover the fact that they have done nothing to curb sellers on offer, who have nothing to offer but a manipulation trade where they call the market on the dip after their own put.

On top of that they do it with legal privileges that allow them to do what would land you or I in jail, and receive subsidies besides.

And there it is.

It isn't a commodities market.

It's a rent-seeker market.

The signs are asking Madigan and Cullerton to tax the big corps.  Madigan and Cullerton have been entrenched at the top of Illinois government for decades.  They are responsible for creating the most indebted state in the nation.  This just shows how clueless the sheeple are, believing that government and the political cronies work for the good of the people and are there to help.   And they want to tax big corporations, which will be passed on to consumers, to pay for big goverment. That's all we need, more taxes and bigger government.
