Americans' "Comfort" Plunges Most Since February Despite Surging Stocks

Tyler Durden's picture

US equities are surging, talking heads are exuberant, and China's fixed - so why are Americans so miserable? Bloomberg's Consumer Comfort index plunged the most since February in the last week, near 2015 lows as it appears The Fed is rapidly realizing "you can fool all the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." It appears the cohort that 'gave up' the most in the past week was 'black' Americans, whose comfort plunged below 'white' Americans for the first time in over a month.

Get the fuck outta here.  You're joking, right?  Never heard a conversation about stocks at a convenience store.  Liquor store, yeah, happens all the time.  But not at a convenience store.  Apoo keeps his stock picks close to the vest.

I'm getting my 3rd raise in the past 8 years this month and it will be about half as much as I need to cover the increase in my health premiums starting in January. So effectively I'm getting a 2% pay cut when I factor in my new health care costs even with the raise. Yippee....

US "health" care (HC):

19% of GDP and growing at more than TWICE the rate of GDP. (At the current differential rates of HC and GDP since the 1980s to 2000-07, HC will be 33% of GDP by the 2030s and half of GDP by mid-century.)

$10,000 per capita.

$26,000 per household (the median household income is ~$51,000).

$24,000 per working person (the median earned income is $27,000).

100% equivalent of federal gov't spending.

50% equivalent of private and public wages.

TWICE the level of profits after tax.

50-66% of HC is spent on the sickest 5-10%, and 86% is spent on the sickest 25% (largely as a result of unhealthy diet, smoking, alcohol abuse, and no excecise, and aging with the resulting chronic conditions).

3-4% to 13% is spent on the healthiest 50-75%.

6 out of 10 'Merikans are on one or more prescription drugs (that are porhibitively costly, largely ineffective, have no more than a placebo effect, and with myriad side effects).

Read the above again, and perhaps three times, and let the data sink in. Copy and paste it and share it with everyone you know.

If after reading the appalling statistics above, one is not rip-snortin', bug-eyed, dental work-breaking OUTRAGED, then one should check one's pulse and go immediately to the local morgue.

Each time you hear about, or observe, a medical facility being built in your area, grab for your wallet and despair, as it implies that HC costs will rise faster and ensure business, household, and gov't bankruptcies sooner than later.

Get bleeping PI$$ED and tell everyone you know.

Can you see where this is going?  Soon GDP calc will be changed such that HC is given much more weight and the inflation rate calc will be changed so that HC is given little to no weight as it is too "volatile".

Result - the US will have a rip roaring GDP with miniscule or negative inflation, while the masses are too poor to pay attention.

Bravo Mrs. NoDebt. And you know... cases of jars "stack" well too. They don't even need to be located at the bottom of the lake. Just sayin' ;-)

But ya' hafta spread out your purchases at different stores. Since most people outside Mormon country don't do massive canning, the locals will think you're moonshining and then you have a whole host of new problems.

It feels uncomfortable to spend $30K of your hard earned money on a new car and the plastic crap inside breaks after a year. Meanwhile the Fed keeps saying inflation isn't high enough so they'll keep the Easy Money flowing to Wall Street to make it go higher.

different kinds of 'uncomfortable". Some folks having money problems due to consumption priorities. Some having more basic issues like making the rent and credit card payments. And some even more dire, having to squeeze the food and already stopped paying the mortgage and are squatting, just waiting for the sheriff to evict.
