And here's the thing: the average camp guard had a lot less choice than the average US recruit; was likely a conscript (not just an economic failure with no alternative productive use), and a had lot less information to go on.
Anybody who enlists now, with abundant, free information on the acts of their government, has as much moral uprightness as a man who knowingly signed up to staff a camp in the 1940s.
It doesn't matter if the camp guard was a 'good apple' who did his job out of a sense of national endeavour or misguided trust in his political overlords: every individual he oversaw had the moral right to slit his throat at the first opportunity.

She had fear in her voice...two of his fellow airmen were shot by afgan military last tour..she said he does not know who to trust.
