Former US Air Force Lieutenant: Obama's Syria Strategy Is An "Illegal Embarrassment"
If there’s anything that should have become abundantly clear over the past several months it’s that Washington’s “strategy” in the Mid-East is coming apart at the seams.
To be sure, there’s no reason why intelligence officials in the US should have ever thought the Syria gambit was going to work. Playing on the Sunni-Shiite divide can certainly be effective when it comes to creating chaos but it’s a notoriously risky way to go about things and it’s fraught with uncertainty.
The Pentagon should know this all too well. After all, it was the very same jihadists who the US supported in the Soviet- Afghan war that ended up flying commercial airliners into US “targets” on 9/11.
But America doesn’t learn, which is why, even as Tehran attempted to help Washington hunt Taliban and al-Qaeda targets in Afghanistan, The White House labeled Iran an “evil” nation and while there are certainly legitimate questions as to the IRGC’s role in sponsoring terrorism (and more specifically, in attacking US convoys in Iraq after the fall of Saddam), it now seems relatively clear that if you’re going to pick sides in the Mid-East (and you probably shouldn’t), deliberately supporting states that funnel money and arms to Sunni extremists isn’t the way to go.
Of course Washington hasn’t just indirectly supported militants in the region. Both the CIA and The Pentagon are actively propping up rebels in Syria and as we noted on Thursday, handing anti-tank weapons and shoulder-fire man-portable air-defense systems to people who may well morph from "moderate" to "extremist" is probably a bad idea - especially in light of recent events in the Sinai Peninsula.
With all of the above in mind, we bring you the following comments from Karen Kwiatkowski, retired US Air Force lieutenant-colonel who spoke to RT earlier this week.
RT: In light of this admission from the State Department, do you expect the US to rethink its support for the so-called moderate rebels in Syria?
Karen Kwiatkowski: It doesn’t appear that they want to rethink it. Being that we sent troops and probably more troops will come. What I am hoping is that Congress will rethink it for them. I think the administration is not willing to admit some mistakes that it’s made. But the Congress itself – there is no legal authorization for troops to go into Syria without permission, this is illegal – Congress is not being consulted and asked and they had not approved it. So, the president is acting out of bounds.
Note that that is precisely what Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard recently told CNN. Of course it's also illegal because Damascus didn't invite the US (or Riyadh, or Ankara, or Doha for that matter) to come in and meddle in the affairs of a sovereign state, but that's another story.
RT: Russia has repeatedly asked the US for closer coordination in the fight against Islamic State. Why do you think Washington is unwilling to work with Moscow in Syria?
KK: It seems like it is simply a matter of pride or lost face. They don’t want to lose face, they don’t want to look like they are taking orders or responding in a positive way to what Russia has decided to do. I can’t think of any other reason why they wouldn’t share that type of information, unless the information that we have is really not reliable. And given our coordination with these rebels, we don’t know who we are working with. Our information may not be very good at all, and maybe we don’t want that to be found out. I just don’t know; it is a mystery.

RT: Do you think the US has a clear strategy for Syria and if so, what is it?
KK: I think the strategy is confused. The people in Washington have imagined how the Middle East works that it is really not related to reality at all. It is unrealistic. And they are trying to put forth things - the military doesn’t want to say no. Because the militaries always are militaries – they want to show you how they can do the job that you are asking them to do.
So, we have a crisis in Washington that plays out in a very confused strategy that is not working in Syria and in the rest of the Middle East. So, I am thinking that you are going to see something out of Congress, because we, as Americans, are embarrassed by this – this is an embarrassing situation. Obama is embarrassed, the State Department sounded quite embarrassed when they briefed Congress. I think we are looking at somebody taking some action. Again, our Congress has to pull the plug on this failed strategy if you can even call it a strategy in Syria.
Yes, an "illegal," "embarrassing," "mystery" strategy.
But we're not sure Kwiatkowski is right to say that Congress is going to do anything about this. US lawmakers have demonstrated a remarkable propensity for ineptitude and the people who elected them are so clueless as to gobble up The White House's Mid-East story hook, line, and sinker.

Obama represents about the minimum involvement the US could have, given the political configuration in DC. Those pyramidion people at the top of the established social pyramid systems believe, probably correctly, that the only way for them to continue to control the planet is that they have to arrange conditions such that there will be mass murders of the majority of the world's population, mostly through various groups killing each other.
All of the surviving, successful politicians in NATO countries have long ago become the puppets of the international banksters, who are voted for by enough of the masses of muppets who have been mostly brainwashed to believe in the banksters' bullshit. Therefore, the apparent incompetent stupidity of the politicians is due to their careers having been based upon their actually being puppets, voted for by muppets.
IF, IF, IF one is going to propose a genuinely better long-term strategy, then that would have to be based upon better death control systems, with the human murder systems as the most extreme forms of that. In my opinion, the ruling classes are preparing to resolve the world's problems in their ways. THE BIG BACKGROUND PROBLEM is that everything has been based upon being able to apply the technologies provided by the industrial revolutions to strip-mine the planet's natural resources at an exponential rate, which processes were "paid" for by "money" made out of nothing as debts by the banksters, which frauds were enforced by governments. Therefore, as we reach the turning and tipping points where there start to manifest real limits of diminishing returns from being able to continue to strip-mine the planet's natural resources at an exponential rate, we have already gone deeply into the zone of overshoot in a nutshell.
The exponential growth of the total human population and human activities can NOT continue endlessly. It has to stop, one way or another, sooner or later ... By definition, what will stop that exponential growth shall be changes in the death control systems, with the most extreme forms of that being changes in the murder systems. While there are theoretically an abundance of possible changes, the actually existing systems have actually prepared to do what they have been doing, which are their systems of debt slavery, backed by wars based on deceits, starting more genocidal wars, along with preparations for imposing democidal martial law.
Inside of that overall context, the only realistic resolutions to the real problems must be ways to stop the exponential growth of the total of the human population and activities. Given that the currently established social pyramid systems are operated by relatively tiny minorities, by their pyramidion people, controlling vast majorities of people who are ruled over, through backing up lies with violence resulting in ignorance and fear, there do not appear to be any other politically possible resolutions to the underlying issues of EXPONENTIAL GROWTH OVERSHOOTING than the mass murders of the majority of the human population.
That is the actual strategy being implemented, through various tactics, that appears at first glance to be due to incompetent stupidities perpetrated by political puppets. However, that kind of application of the presumptions of Hanlon's Razor is wrong, because it is too superficial a perception of the situation. In my view, the background strategy being implemented is to deliberately drive conditions to deteriorate sufficiently, so that it will be possible to change gears to start using weapons of mass destruction. The psychotic psychopaths devising and implementing that strategy are able and willing to "let the chips fall where they may," both in foreign affairs, and in the domestic blowback that causes.
Anyone who is SERIOUS about any better STRATEGY should admit and address the underlying issues that the limits to the exponential growth in the strip-mining of the natural resources of a fresh planet demand the development of radically different human, industrial and natural ecologies, which primarily means radically different death control systems, with the most extreme forms of that being radically different human murder systems.
At the present time, the most probable ways that will actually happen is that the ruling classes will arrange for the vast majority of those they rule over to be mass murdered. Furthermore, the only genuine alternatives would have to be to do that differently, in some better ways, that accomplished the overall purposes in better ways. Otherwise, we continue to head, faster and faster, towards the ruling psychotic psychopaths being able to continue to fleece the Zombie Sheeple that they rule over to exhaustion, until they are slaughtered.
Those who focus upon the political puppets, voted for by the masses of muppets, will indeed perceive their apparent incompetent stupidities, and increasing illegalities ... However, that is NOT a deeper analysis, which results in recommending deeper resolutions of the deeper problems ...
The world traveler Obama wanders into the persian bazaar, in search of good deals. It is a dark and chaotic place, and it is clear to Obama that he has the upper hand in bargaining with the uneducated savages. A man swarthed in robes taps him on the shoulder and whispers: Be careful. These people near the entrance, they are thieves. They take your money and disappear down alleys. I know the best shops, and the best deals. You should not go in by yourself, it is best to take a guide. Obama, suddenly aware of loathsome sidelong glances, agrees.
We have to hurry, the best shops close early his guide urges him, and into the souk they go. After a few minutes and twists and turns later, Obama realizes that the sunlight had disappeared, aside from the rips in the tarps and tents. Every street and alley dissolved in the distance; good thing I have a guide, Obama thinks, because I have no clue where we entered or how we get out.
His guide appeared to be popular and well known. He would trade words with the owner of this stall and that, and although he couldn't understand a word of it he assumed the proprieters were disappointed, because he, Obama, was being led to the best deals.
Some time later, after many confusing turns, they arrive at their destination: a dead-end alley with no shops. I am sorry, his guide tells him. Today must be a holiday. The shops are closed. Maybe you could try again tommorrow.
Obama, disappointed that the search bore no fruit, sighs and says yes, I will come back tommorrow. "But until then, which way is closest to get out of here?"
"Simply go back the way we came."
"But I don't know the way. Perhaps you could show me."
"I should go home now, but I would be willing to guide you . . .for a fee."
Obama, relieved, pulls out his wallet. "Great. How much for your services?"
His guide, with a wide smile alternating between rotten fence posts and gold, replies: "How much have you got?"
The plan is simple - regime change in Syria.

That got screwed up by Isis' blowback into Iraq and the Turkey vs Kurd thing plus Putin again.
Now the question is will they keep trying, upping the ante every time until we get WWIII or will they now give it up with their sulky murder of a few hundred Russian civilians on a plane as a little revenge.
