Wealthiest Americans Ominously Remind Nation They Could Easily Drop Another $10 Billion On Election

Tyler Durden's picture

Fact or Fiction...

Calmly stating that they would not even need to think twice about doing so, the nation’s wealthiest individuals ominously reminded the populace during a press conference Wednesday that they could easily drop another $10 billion on the 2016 election.

“We want to make it completely clear to voters that there’s absolutely no reason - none at all - why we couldn’t shell out another $10 billion between now and next November,” said casino magnate Sheldon Adelson on behalf of the top tenth of a percent of income-earners in the U.S., adding that creating dozens of new and extremely well-funded super PACs would mean practically nothing to them.

“Trust me, we’ve got plenty to throw around, so it really wouldn’t be a problem. We could spread it around a bunch of congressional races, or, heck, we could put it all on one presidential candidate—it doesn’t really affect us much either way.

Why don’t we toss in a billion right now just to give you a taste?

The nation’s wealthiest families then added that they would have no problem repeating the process for the next 30 election cycles before silently walking off the stage.

Satire can be a very effective method of getting the truth across to the masses. There have been many past examples of this, both in press, and in comedy; the ability to present "The Real Deal" whilst hiding under the effective camouflage of "harmless entertainment" has long been a way of avoiding the unwelcome attentions of "those in Real Power". It can be a VERY fine line to tread, as many satirists have discovered to their (sometimes fatal) cost . . . . .

The Onion gets away with this since it's really a "fringe" site - http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/theonion.com ranking outside the top 500 in the US (but note the increase in Global ranking . . . ). The "Great Unwashed" probably never visit this site, since they prefer their information packaged in a more traditional way (i.e. "no thought or insight required").

The rather unpalatable fact that the Onion has really "hit the nail on the head" with this article would still cause too much cognitive dissonance with  "the Majority" for the article to gain any mainstream traction. This alone should be of significant concern, if "You the People" still believe in "your" representative style of Government.

All they're interested in is the fact that they can brainwash the American ant population with louzy commercials and that they'll do exactly what they want.

Another example that proves how dumbed down most Americans are compaired to other people in the world.

Dumb and dumberererered...

If those morons would say that in Europe, the underdog would get all the votes.

In America it's way more easy. Tell the ants you love family values while fucking every 18 year old intern, tell them you want peace while killing women and children and sending out troops to rape the world and never say anything about the American police state.

America gets what it has comming.

And while most Americans think it would throw the world in archy, the truth would be that there would be global fireworks and celebrations.

And the fact that not a single politicians responded to this powergrab by private individuals... SICK!!!!!

The majority of (maybe in some ways ALL) US Politicians are "owned" by others, and those others are not the electorate. Sheldon Adelson is but one of many "owners", most of whom prefer a more clandestine arrangement.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the US loses "Reserve Currency Status". No more living the high(er) life courtesy of the rest of the planet, so overall the "rest of the World" will see a quality of life improvement, although maybe not immediately, and maybe not for everyone (corruption being a popular "business model" Worldwide).

No Nation is "Exceptional", nor is any Nation "Indispensible", especially when said Nation is well-known as a source of exploitation / theft / political manipulation. The greatest risk is that of the Military "Elite" deciding to go out with a bang, a la Samson Option. When Psychopathy is rewarded (via enhanced promotion prospects), the end result becomes very unpredictable, as any Psychiatrist will confirm. Their minds DO "work in a different way", especially where value-sets, empathy and engagement are concerned.

Oh, some pols have raised hackles over the power grab and they have/had fairly significant support from the populace.  The reason very few know this (certainly not you since you have been a regular here for years so what gives with making the false claim?) mainly because the mainstream (monied and pervasive) have covered it up and refused to cover those stories so it appears to be nothing much at all.  The Tea Party was a big deal for a little while but quickly co-opted by apparatchiks of The One Party (those at the TOP).

I do believe that most people around the world believed that virtually everyone in the USSR was communist too.  Was the same but during more technologically primitive times.

I'm thinking on running on a super hyped up pro-Republican platform on steroids.

I'll be telling everyone how lucky we are to have the banking system that we have in America and not some shit hole country like Zimbabwe, the ability to create money out of thin air and let the world pay for it because if they don't our brave military men will gladly erase their national debt (and most of their villages). We will DEMAND the rag heads in Gaza relocate to someplace in inner Iraq so that our bff Israel can rip down the shanty town and build some elegant high rises on the ocean like they did in Tel-Aviv, and naturally the US will be more than willing to help fund the projects. Should be a boost for CAT too. How are we going to pay for it? We will raise social security and Obama care taxes of course!

That should get me noticed for a super pac. Well, it's off to the printers first thing in the morning.

Sat, 11/07/2015 - 12:07 | 6761536 begintowin
begintowin's picture

Yes, I believe you're correct in certain instances. For example, if Rupert Murdoch donates money to Carly Fiorina's campaign, she would in turn buy advertising time on FOX TV affiliates (owned by NewsCorp) to broadcast her message. I think the reason there is an exchange of money is for income tax purposes. It's easier to declare hard money as an expense since it is tangible as opposed to donating broadcast time (intangible) to a campaign. But I'm only guessing about this as I do not have an accounting background.

However my original post was to bring into the light the major cost for national campaigns is television broadcast time. Believe it or not, the American people own the airwaves. I think for presidential elections these networks should be required to charge a reduced cost as part of their FCC (Federal Communication Commission) license. Of course this idea would send libertarians into an apoplectic fit but the country needs to hear from a wider variety of candidates and one way to do that is to reduce the expense of television advertising.

unrelated but good news from Australia this morning:

Lifetime compensation would be offered to whistleblowers who risk their careers to expose company misconduct under a radical overhaul floated by the corporate watchdog.

Election money should be equal, small, and provided by the government.  $100 million each and no more.  Buying elections doesn't serve the people.

I still want to see a candidate say 'vote for me, you are out of my jurisdiction and your unalienable rights are not subject to me'.

Election funding by capitalists is the biggest fraud & corruption on public who vote & select their candidates. The elected ones will no longer work for public, they will ONLY work for the fund raisers , which undermines democracy .

If democracy is required by state, the elections should also be funded by state. All candidates should be given time slots on TV channels for debates & for presenting their manifesto and what about www . Its so simple . Why billions of $ are required for election funding. Its only promoting crony capitalism which has substituted democracy.

PRESENT DEMOCRACY : VOX CRONY VOX DEI
