US Air Force Goes Full-PhD Economist Retard, Blames Lack Of October ISIS Strikes On "Poor Weather"

Tyler Durden's picture

On September 30, a Russian general walked into the US embassy in Baghdad and told US diplomats that Moscow would commence air operations in Syria in “one hour.”

It would be best, he said, if the US stayed out of the way.

The general was affiliated with the newly created Iraqi intelligence cell staffed by Russia, Syria, and Iran. It was both hilarious and intriguing that Moscow gave such short notice and didn’t share any information about who Russia intended to target.

At a base level, it was exceptionally amusing that The Kremlin essentially walked into a US embassy, told the US military to leave the skies above Syria or risk being shot down, and then walked out. But more specifically, the fact that Moscow gave only an hour’s notice and did not provide anything in the way of details seemed to underscore Russia and Iran’s shared suspicions that the US is backing any number of Sunni extremist groups fighting for control of the country. That is, Moscow didn’t want Washington to have the time or the information necessary to warn ISIS or any of the West’s other proxy armies.

In the weeks since Russia began flying combat missions from Latakia, the perception has been that Moscow’s warplanes have been far more effective at targeting extremists than American fighter jets. It is of course impossible to determine if the videos emanating from the Russian Defense Ministry depict what they purport to depict, but by all accounts, this is a far more aggressive campaign than that which the US launched some 13 months ago. It’s also been clear from the location of Russia’s strikes that although shoring up Assad in the west (i.e. securing Syria's major cities for the regime) was the immediate priority, Moscow has effectively established a no-fly zone over the country and, if you believe Ankara, Russia has even ventured into Turkish airspace a time or two (or three, or four).

Obviously, this threw the Pentagon into disarray. It was no longer clear where the US could fly without risking a dogfight with a Sukhoi, and it was no longer clear who the US could support with airstrikes without pissing off Moscow.

And so, with its bluff thus called, the US simply stood aside and watched as Russia and Iran began to systematically dismantle the opposition funded by Riyadh, Doha, and Ankara.

Or at least that’s how any rational observer would interpret the situation. But there’s nothing rational about Washington when it comes to foreign policy which is why the US is now taking a page out of the economist playbook by swearing that the “lull” in airstrikes against “terrorists” in October had nothing to do with the fact that Russia was bombing the entire country and everything to do with - drumroll - weather. Here’s Reuters

U.S. and coalition forces are likely to increase air strikes against Islamic State targets in Iraq and Syria in coming weeks after a lull in September and October, the head of U.S. Air Forces Central Command said Saturday.

Lieutenant General Charles Brown told reporters at the Dubai International Air Chiefs Conference that the reduction in air strikes was due to weather and to a slowdown in activity on the ground and not due to the start of Russian air strikes in the region.

And here’s WSJ

The increase in raids on Islamic State fighters should unfold over the next few weeks, U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Charles Brown Jr. told reporters on the sidelines of the biannual Dubai International Air Chiefs Conference on Saturday.

“There was a little bit of a lull,” after a busy July and August, he said. Poor weather and a lack of movement of Islamic State forces on the ground hampered the ability to find and attack targets, he said.

Behold! Charlie Brown just pulled a LaVorgna.

If there's some "residual seasonality" going on here, The Pentagon could always double seasonally adjust the airstrike data.

And make no mistake, this has nothing to do with the Russians. It's strictly a coincidence that the US airstrikes in Syria stopped once Moscow started flying from Latakia (via WSJ):

The slowdown of U.S. airstrikes coincided with Russia’s deployment of combat jets to Syria and the launching of its own airstrikes. But Lt. Gen Brown said that had “nothing to do” with the U.S. efforts.

Of course not. The terrorists are simply staying indoors these days ... after all, the weather is bad:

"If they're not out and about, it's harder to strike."

Note that the weather wasn't bad enough to keep the Pentagon from paradropping hundreds of tons of ammo and weapons into the middle of the desert for the probably fictitious “Syrian Arab Coalition.”

So, as long as the skies stay blue over Syria in November, the US will get very "serious" about targeting ISIS and any other Sunni militants that might have designs on blowing up passenger jets over the Sinai Peninsula or burning Jordanian pilots alive or engaging in any other marauding militant shenanigans.

We'll leave you with the following quote from the Russian Defense Ministry:

"Twenty-four hours a day UAV's are monitoring the situation in the ISIS activity areas. All the detected targets are effectively engaged day and night in any weather conditions."

ISIS sells crude oil to Turkey and Israel to raise money. Of course, the US is aware of that and can easily stop these sales if it wanted to.

The so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria(ISIS) began selling Iraqi crude oil extracted from oil fields which its seized in recent months and exporting it through the Kurdish region to Turkish refineries and from Turkey's Mediterranean port of Ceyhan ultimately to Israel.

Latina, I was in at the same time, it took me longer to realise the lies, but eventually "got it". It is now possible to look back at those years as a golden age of honesty, the media even, from time to time, had a real news report on Vietnam. Today the lies are so thick and relentless, they are shameless in their lies. Since therre is NO MEDIA to report real news, their freedom to lie is limitless.

Russian intelligence while preparing their air campaign found a unique area of small abandoned villages in the South East of Syria. War forced the people out long ago, no major fighting takes place there, yet Russian air photos detected a huge bomb crater pattern at random over that entire area, with no logic behind the strike patterns. They suspect that this is where the US airstrikes went to dump their loads, and chalk up another attack on ISIS. Apparently, no other explaination seems to fit such a heavily bombed area of nothing!

Also, don't forget that while Russia is being threatened with ISIS terrorism for their month-long campaign, the US received no threats for over a year-long campaign.

So either the US military is so incompetent, that the islamists don't mind it's there, or the US is not bombing the ISIS and instead bombs civilian targets, thus making the ISIS advance easier.

The Nobel Prize Winner does not like Russia destroying his creation, ISIS:

US deploys F-15s to Syria, targeting Russian jets

By Thomas Gaist
7 November 2015

The US will send a squadron of F-15C fighter jets to Turkey’s Incirlik air base, the US Defense Department (DOD) announced on Friday. The nature of the US war planes, which are specifically designed for dogfighting with other highly advanced fighter jets, indicates that the deployment carries a significance far beyond what its small scale would suggest.

The F-15 line of combat jets was developed in response to the unveiling in 1967 of the Soviet Union’s MiG-25 “Foxbat” interceptor.

Because they are designed for air-to-air combat against other major powers, the US has, until now, seen no need to deploy the F-15C model to its Middle Eastern and Central Asian war theaters, where the opposing forces have no warplanes.

The sudden deployment, coming less than two months after Russia began sending its own SU-30 fighters to its new airbase at Latakia, makes clear that the jets have been deployed in response to Moscow’s air campaign.

The real concern for the Obummer administration seems to be Los Angeles.  The Drudge Report has a link to a Los Angeles Times article about a nightime closure of Pacific Ocean airspace near LA that will force passenger jets to take a route over heavily populated areas as they approach LAX.

Lies and more lies and the traitors Obama has working for his New World Order administration get away with it.  News reports attacking Ben Carson for some fibs on his background, exaggerations that pale in comparison to lies of omission from Obama on how he got into Columbia University with a "B-" average.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) --

Mysterious maneuvers over the Pacific are forcing a change in Los Angeles International Airport landings late at night, meaning noise for thousands of people in the flight path.

Instead of landing from the east over Inglewood, planes begin flying from the west and over the ocean to keep noise levels down, but due to secret military operations, the airspace over the Pacific is closed to incoming flights for the next week.

The government exists to serve and protect us. However, under Obama, the government has become increasingly weaponized, (IRS attacking conservatives and pro Israeli groups, DOJ attacking S&P after its downgrade, DOJ use of the Espionage Act to spy on reporters during an election season, EPA attacking Gibson Guitars, NLRB attacking Boeing, EPA attacking fossil fuels, gun dealers and gun owners through Operation Choke Point and Operation Fast and Furious) or politicized (bogus government stats on unemployment and inflation, alteration of CIA Benghazi talking points, Berghdal get-out-of-jail-free card, manipulating the census, plot for FCC newsroom monitors)

Welcome to the United States of Obamaville.

As near as I can tell the US was flying in aircraft from 1,000 miles away, requiring multiple aerial refuelings, and costing a fortune in maintenance time and pilot time. The Russian bases are within a hundred miles or so from the initial targets.  Basically their effectiveness is  going to be 5x or 10x that of the American forces.

And I guess we all assume the Russian ROE are much more weather-tolerant than the US.

a bombing sortie is a bombing sortie. It isn't measured by how many times a pilot has to refuel. If the US flew 6700 sorties that was 6700 bombing runs (assumed). I don't think that would make the Russians 5X more effective because they were 2 hours closer.

Billions spent for "defense" in the US.  Maybe that's the problem.  The Russians are attacking ISIS, the US defending against them?  Seems confused.  So if the US really wants to fight ISIS, they would have to go on the offense, identify targets, and attack and eliminate them.  So the US needs a brand new military branch, named the "Department of Offense".  Problem is, each day the Russians likely would get there first.  They are obviously a lot better at this than the US.

P.S.  Yes, yes.  I know there are already a lot of "offensive" departments in US government.  Like the IRS or NSA.     LMAO!

Once we can manage weather? We have already perfected weather weaponry. We witness our creation everyday over the skies of the world. Some of the largest 'weather related' catastrophes were managed events; Pakistan flood, London flood, California drought, Texas drought, east coast freeze-outs, ice balls in the Great Lakes.

So this crap about weather preventing air strikes is complete nonsense and an outright falsehood... as in LIE.

It was both hilarious and intriguing that Moscow gave such short notice and didn’t share any information about who Russia intended to target.

"Short Notice"?!!!...

You mean like when the U.S. Government overthrew a sovereign government that just happened to be on Russia's border while Russia was hosting a Winter Olympics???....

I think that's a little more intriguing than slipping into a Middle East Country the U.S. military has been systematically been losing for the last 7 years using paid mercenaries to do all of it's work and declaring it total chaos and destruction of two secular government(s) "victory"!!!

True smack.  But at some point someone(s) going to have to get fingered for these crimes.

Belsan 2004, Volgograd 2013... Now flt 9268. And in each case Russian civilians were executed!  I think the Russian Federation realizes what represents a fate worse than death for the Zionist troll and have played the hand masterfully.

Take away all of there money or should I say take away it's "worth" and you have their souls!...  Who won't enjoy sitting back and watching another American civil war as the completely destitute in this Country are at each others throats not because they are being invaded or attacked, but because they are losing a way of life that was created long ago at everyone elses expense and the rest of the World is fed up with writing the checks to pay for it! ...

For the Russian Federation at this point and with the multiple act(s) of war comitted against them within the last 20 years, keeping enemies closer at some point has diminishing returns. I think Flt 9268 was that final snap in the "camel's back"!...

Time to pack it in and call your people home.  After all they have witnessed just in the last year alone, if I were Russian and a career dip in Washington D.C., London, Tel Aviv and Riyadh I'd be writing a letter to the "boss" saying call me home or I quit!

The Su 34 is a two man fighter bomber but it could probably take every American fighter except maybe the F-16.  It is incredibly manuverable, fast and capable.

funny but the Russian's and Syrian's didn't seem to experience any weather related issues in october.

things that make you go hmm...

I take it that conference didn't go so well cause now we have boots on the ground, BUK's on the ground and air superiority fighters in the skies above. reports are that Russia has doubled it's troop presence in Syria with most military analysts saying it will reach up to 10,000 in the coming months. all signals point to DC being ready to do the same under the cover of "ISIS downed a civilian airplane". this despite the fact that the vast majority of the arms such as TOW ATGM's sent in by so called "anti ISIS coalition" have in fact ended up in the hands of those units fighting the Syrian Army and not ISIS

so the escalation from proxy war to direct war is gaining momentum. interesting to me is the deployment of F-15's to Turkey because they do already have a fairly capable air force of there own as it is. while the probably could not survive a direct large scale air assault from the RAAF long term, the Turks certainly can defend themselves against a few squads of SU-30's and maybe one squad of MIG-31 foxhounds though the presence of the MIGs in Syria has not been confirmed by anybody.

so once again, Washington is attempting to sell a blatant provocation of Moscow as an effort to re-assure a fellow NATO ally. apparently there are a lot of NATO allies that need a lot of "re-assuring" these days, many of which reside right on Russia's border as luck would have it.  and what do they really need to be fully re-assured according to Washington? a fully functioning land based ABMS no later than 2018 right on that shared Russian border.

so here we are on the with a major and most likely nuclear war drawing very nigh and Washington seems to be doing everything in it's power to make sure that it is as apocalyptic as possible.

then again they have to do something with the masses before social security goes bust, imagine what will happen once the surfs realize their overlords pissed it all away and left them with nothing.

could get messy so I suppose it's better for them to send as many off to die now in a war than have to put down a massive rebellion in the streets at home later.

Washington's very own "final solution"?

Its funny to read a lot of these answers.

So many thoughts and so many theories.

The best answer is usually the most simple:  The US Military is broke.

If you know people in the Reserves or Active Duty Military, ask them if they have seen changes in training, drills, tests, qualifications, etc.

They US military is broke.  They are not doing anything significant lately.  Ships are being brought home.  Air Force attacks are pretty light and lame.  The Navy pulled out of the Gulf without immediate plans to go back.

These are not the actions of a robust and assertive military.

The USA is the USSR right before the collapse.  And for those of us old enough to recall...that change happened over a fucking weekend.

Weather? I wonder which WH idiot dreamt that one up. Perhaps the military needs to be reminded that their F-18's and F-15's are sold as 'all weather fighters'. Certainly the F-18's have to be because they are carrier based. The military must be seething at having to mouth all these ridiculous stories to the press.

On another topic, it seems like the Houthis are advancing on both the west and eastern sides of the Arabian Peninsula. I don't think the Kingdom is long for this world as Meccas is only 600 KM/ 350 miles from the border. Look for the sunni's to start singing the praises of 'peace' real soon. But the Monarchy? Vladimir Putin,

You are a liar and a fraud who is a lackey of the bankers.

If you weren’t,

1) The Russian central bank would not be a private treasonous institution controlled by City of London/Western ruling class interests.

2) Russia would not accept fraudulent (unconstitutional, illegal) and not-even-worthless [because FRNs are not even defined as to exactly what they are worth] US dollars or Euros for Russia’s real and valuable oil and other natural resources, or for its arms sales.

3)Russia would vehemently have denounced the fact that Americans and Europeans are manipulating the price of gold, silver and platine lower by selling precious metal that they don’t have in fraudulent paper markets only, to the tune of several hundred ounces MORE than each ounce the West actually have available for delivery. [For each ounce of eligible & registered gold in Comex warehouses, the Americans already have sold several hundred ounces on paper.] Like all IMF member countries, Russia acquiesces that it’s forbidden to use gold as money…

Putin,

You’re a fucking traitor to mankind.

If not,

You’d have used fuel-air bombs on Raqqa (the de facto capital of the Islamic State) and exterminated these American agents before they tortured, raped and killed hundreds of thousands of human beings.

You would have hit the oil fields controlled by ISIS which finances their rape, torture and mass murder of human beings in the name of American- and European-aligned interests. You would have denounced and attacked the parties that buy this oil from them and destroyed their oil trade routes.

Putin,

You’re not a chess player. You’re a piece of shit.
