"Mystery" Ballistic Missile Test Lights Up Sky Over California, Leads To Social Media Panic

Tyler Durden's picture

Late on Friday there was a surprising announcement by the Federal Aviation Administration according to which night-time flights to and from Los Angeles International (LAX) would avoid flying over the Pacific Ocean to the west of the airport, the second busiest in the US. There was no specific reason given except to note that "mysterious maneuvers" by the US military over the Pacific are forcing a change in landings late at night.

Instead of landing from the east over Inglewood, planes would begin flying from the west and over the ocean to keep noise levels down, but due to secret military operations, the airspace over the Pacific is closed to incoming flights for the next week.

"We clearly understand that neighbors and communities east of the airport will experience noise and we apologize for that," said Nancy Castles, LAX public relations director.

As ABC reported, the military would not say what is causing the change, and LAX claims it's also in the dark. Castles said all they know is planes can't be flying at low altitudes to our west.

What's going on this week is a mystery. "And plus if it's a military thing it's a good thing, that means they're making it safer for us so I wouldn't let it bother me," said Steve Devosion of Inglewood. "I'd be more interested in them not doing something about what's going on than them doing something about what's going on."

Then the reason behind the "secret operation" became quite literally apparent around 6pm local time when thousands of reports from Los Angeles and San Diego flooded social networks with reports of a mysterious bright light in the sky that sent Californians into panic. The San Diego Union-Tribune said police were inundated with calls "reporting everything from a flare to a comet to a nuclear bomb".

The newspaper said the light was seen as far away as the states of Nevada and Arizona. CBS-LA reported sightings in San Francisco, 380 miles (600km ) to the north.

The light was spotted traveling quickly over Orange County and neighbouring areas late on Saturday, leading to fevered speculation online over its origin.

Videos posted online show a bright flare rising high, before a wide, bright blue flash emerges in a cone shape. Many videos continued to track the light for several minutes. Some people saw it fade from bright red to white or blue, and thought it traveled from south to north.

Shortly thereafter the official story was released: according to the Union Tribune, Navy Strategic Systems Programs conducted the scheduled Trident II (D5) missile test flight at sea from the Kentucky, an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine, in the Pacific Test Range off the coast of Southern California, a Navy spokesman said.

The test was part of a scheduled, on-going system evaluation test, said Cmdr. Ryan Perry with the Navy’s Third Fleet.

Perry said launches are conducted on a frequent, recurring basis to ensure the continued reliability of the system. “Each test activity provides valuable information about our systems, thus contributing to assurance in our capabilities,” he said in a statement.

The missile was not armed and Strategic Systems Programs does not routinely announce missile testing. Information regarding the test launch of such missiles is classified prior to the launch, Perry said.

The test range is a massive area northwest of Los Angeles. The Navy periodically uses the range to test fire Tomahawk and Standard cruise from surface ships and submarines.

According to reports, the launch area was the Pacific Missile Test Center located next to Point Mugu, "targeting" the Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands.

Since LAX traffic has been diverted until Thursday night, it is likely that the US Navy will conduct more such tests. What is unclear is why the test, which was clearly meant to be apparent to millions of people, was conducted so publicly and in such close proximity to some of the most populated US urban centers, when traditionally the military is far more secretive when conducting ballistic missile tests.

Perhaps this was merely the US response to the various Russian ICBM tests which was likewise conducted in secrecy in early 2014 and which moved markets. If so, expect the Kremlin to "retaliate" in kind with its own ICBM tests over the coming weeks.

It isn't a foreign asset - they PRE closed the Pacific, without explaining why, after which point the launch occurred. 100% US orchestrated.

If the launch were done in a remote location, there wouldn't be millions of youtubes, pics, and what not for the Russians to get a proxy up-front-and-personal view of the test. So at least part of the objective was to warn the Russians that we still got nukes.

I don't recall seeing this sort of white exhaust color on other missiles (distinctive red-ish color seems to be the norm), so folks with a Chem background might be able to add some salt to that stone soup.

https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=what+elements+burns+white

The purpose could also be testing US tracking systems (e.g. missile defense, painting/tracking the missile, etc) and having our guys walk through procedures to do whatever it is they think they need to do when missiles are going the other way.

Regards,

Cooter

This is the official story:

Navy Strategic Systems Programs conducted the scheduled Trident II (D5) missile test flight at sea from the Kentucky, an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine, in the Pacific Test Range off the coast of Southern California, a Navy spokesman said.

PROBLEM: Though there were war games scheduled, there was no missile launch scheduled (despite claims) AND HERE IS THE KICKER: According to the "experts" on various forums, Trident II missiles have a red flame, and Russian ICBM's have a stunning blue flame that leaves a huge blue trail long after the missile is gone. And this ICBM had a stunning blue flame that left a glowing trail in the sky for 15 minutes after the launch. AND HERE IS THE KICKER: ITS TRAJECTORY APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN ONE THAT WOULD HAVE MADE IT LAND IN SIBERIA. Figure the odds for that one. America would not test fire an ICBM on a trajectory for Russia!

If Russia really did do this, it would have definitely sent a message that goes something like: "You can't get us, we can be right where you are looking and you will still lose LA."

Now the only thing to be fully confirmed is that a Trident burns red. I do not know what does what, but there are experts out there reading that can confirm this. If the "experts" online are correct about the color of the flame, Russia just pulled a big one.

FireBrander says (below):

"I do wonder how much CB’s, IMF, MIC, think tanks, impotent governments  or the combination of all has help led the world to this angry, distrusting, abusing, greedy and destructive position?"

It really is deeper. The patriarchal system that has ruled earth for the past 5000+ years which on the most basic level -- and most simply put -- teaches children to fight (service to self) as opposed to teaching children to cooperate (service to others).

Until humanity evolves to from Primitive Unconscious Procreation to Civilized Conscious Procreation nothing fundamental will change.

"Parental conditioning is the greatest slavery in the world. ... because the child is the father of the man. If the child is brought up in a wrong way then the whole of humanity goes wrong. The child is the seed: if the seed itself is poisoned and corrupted by well-intentioned people, well-wishing people, then there is no hope for a free human individual." - Osho, "the book of children"  [chapter 3 - Conditioning]

However, I can tell you from seeing it first hand, no way under the sun, moon in heaven or hell.

Like, it floated, lingered and didn't even transit the entire horizon, and was going slower than an airliner.
So if it was a missile it appeared from out of nowhere, disappeared into nowhere and would have taken over 8 hours to make it from LA to Moscow.
Another thing was that it was sighted all the way from San Diego to LA to SF as well as had Twitter etc, all abuzz about it from Colorado, Nevada and Arizona.  NFW a missile is seen that far.  And was way too bright.
Plus a missile plume does not radiate at 45 degrees ...

Way too may Not possible to have physically been a missile.

Also, the "story" has been through several iterations.
It was said to have been launched from Point Mugu, Edwards AFB, Vandenburg AFB and somewhere else I don't remember at the moment....  Which are all land based/USAF.
Then the Navy said it was a test from a nuke sub, a Trident D-II series missile.

So the story doesn't even hold.

Then if it was a missile test, it would not have been launched from SoCal up along the coast toward NorCal.  Too dangerous.  Even unarmed (like they test fire armed ones... no) if it crashed on land it could kill people.
The Navy and AF shoot their tests out over the ocean away from land into the far reaches of the Pacific.  In fact, the Navy test ranges have launching facilities/areas out in the South Pacific atolls.

So the test is a fallacy.

Not a missile.  As in NFW.
If you were not a real time observer, a pic or vid on a web site accompanied by a comment form some governmental body claiming a missile launch is Perfect!

So, a High Tech Black Weapons Test ?  Possible ... something totally unknown (Plus there was a flash way off the northern horizon)  Hyper drive or something sorta Star Trek like which have been rumored for years?
A celestial anomaly?  OK, then why not just say so.
A UFO?  As in Unidentified Flying Object?  Yes.  It was flying, it was an object and it was unidentified.  No, I didn't say anything about little green men, aliens or what have you.

Was a very breathtaking, viscerally disturbing event.  And nothing like claimed.

Exactly! Was doing some bouldering yesterday and camped at a place near pleasant valley damn near Bishop, CA. While having a brew and getting te fire going, I watched this thing cruise north along the Mt. Whitney range area all the way to Mt. Tom where it did a literally 90 again. A minute later I saw what appeard to be a 1st or 2nd stage booster come off, the missile lagged a moment, then pointed upward again. Another minute or so it looked like another stage dropped then the thing didnt rise but just cruised paralell along the sierra nevada mtn range. Normallt 'they' test missiles over the pacific, why the fuck did they do this one different?

Anyways, was pretty bitchen to watch this unfold...

Add to that its direction. The Marshall Islands are in the central Pacific. Has no-one wondered how a missile travelling south to north along the western US is supposed to end up in the Marshalls?

The official story is smoke. The real story may be fairly mundane, but the official story is full of holes. Why blow smoke, and why in such an obvious manner?

Not up or down, up and down. Whatever goes up must come down. And, yes, those that go straight up and down do go straight up and down. But that's such a '50s view of things. New ICBMs go up and down or up and sideways and down. That's sideways, as in left to right or right to left (depending on where you're standing).

But with all the world to practice in, why shut down or disrupt civil air traffic in southern California? That speaks of arrogance, ignorance and stupidity more than any thing else. Why do we need that bloated military vampire sucking America's life blood. Can't we find a cheaper way to lose wars?

How about an all-girl millitary. That way, when we lose another one, the politicians can say, "Well, what did you expect out of that war. It was just a bunch of girls." How much better than having to reconcile using our best and brightest, our strongest and fiercest. . .and still losing war after war. Looks like our best and brightest are dimwits and our strongest and fiercest are 98-pound weaklings, weak-end warriors.

These test flights are nothing new. They began in the mid 1990's. A work associate took an early retirement from a Fortune 50 company to work as a civilian DOD emplyee at the US base on Kwajalein atoll. He was one of 800 such civilians. His job was in the maintenance sector (the salary was 3x what he made working shiftwork at his former job). For short breaks all employees would fly to nearby Johnson atoll where there is a large US Military base. So all of the speculation is unfounded and somewhat alarmist. This program has been based in San Diego and the local residents are well aware of these launches. These are 'dead head' missles with no armaments.

Unless the focus of the program has changed, the impact target area is new Kwaj. The flight path is + 4000 miles. It's an empty area of the world, well away from commercial shipping lanes and cpommerial flight paths. The original purpose was to improve accuracy of ICBM's

I agree. They are testing to see if they can defend against a likely war scenario, a sub-based limited attack against the mainland. My daughter used to work on control systems for the missile defense system and would go to Vandenberg for tests but those always fired from land away from the coast. For them to use a TridentII near the coast and have it track parallel to the coast suggests either a psyops purpose or a test of land-based tracking systems. The broad time frame of the closure suggests the testing scenario. The tracking systems are given an alert that something is coming but not when, then they get to analyse the tracking data for how fast and how accurate it is -can we shoot it down before it hits?

The world is moving closer to World War III with escalating tensions between US and Russia and China.  US funded and founded ISIS has brought down a Russian passenger jet.  Obama is trying to kill the Russian economy with lower oil prices and sanctions.  Obama is openly insultng the Chinese by sending warships close to their man-made islands in the South China Sea.  In Syria, Obama is sending troops and ammunition to assist rebels trying to overthrow Assad even as Putin supports him.  The whole situation is ripe for a American-Russian skirmish which can easily lead to a major war.

Towards a World War III Scenario: The Dangers of Nuclear War

Today, people are finally waking up to the dangers of a world war.

We are no longer dealing with a hypothetical scenario. The threat of world War III is real. Public opinion has  become increasingly aware of the impending dangers of an all out US-NATO led war against the Russian Federation.

While a World War III scenario implying the preemptive use of nuclear weapons is on the drawing board of the Pentagon,  military planners are now involved in concrete attack plans directed against Russia including the deployment of missile systems as well as NATO ground forces on Russia’s doorstep.

http://www.globalresearch.ca/towards-a-world-war-iii-scenario-breaking-t...

Washington prepares for World War III 5 November 2015

The US military-intelligence complex is engaged in systematic preparations for World War III. As far as the Pentagon is concerned, a military conflict with China and/or Russia is inevitable, and this prospect has become the driving force of its tactical and strategic planning.

You are probably aware of what I'm saying, but as much as I hate Obama's guts, the world needs to understand clearly that it's not him we should be pointing fingers at.  It is the corporations who the traitors in congress have sold out to... and congress members themselves who should all hang for the insanity they are raining down upon this entire damned planet Earth.  None of these wars are necessary and would NEVER happen without being incited by the bankers and fully funded on both sides by those same bankers, at the expense of sucking money right out of your pockets and your grandchildren's pockets.

True.  It's a troika of the MIC, Wall Street and NSA/CIA spooks, known as the Deep State, which runs the land of the free.  Obama is only a figurehead whose first job out of college was working for a CIA front company. Nominally, as President, he is the face of the Deep State though completely impotent against it.

Who rules America?

The secret collaboration of the military, the intelligence and national security agencies, and gigantic corporations in the systematic and illegal surveillance of the American people reveals the true wielders of power in the United States. Telecommunications giants such as AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, and Internet companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter, provide the military and the FBI and CIA with access to data on hundreds of millions of people that these state agencies have no legal right to possess.

Congress and both of the major political parties serve as rubber stamps for the confluence of the military, the intelligence apparatus and Wall Street that really runs the country. The so-called “Fourth Estate”—the mass media—functions shamelessly as an arm of this ruling troika.

If you ever want evidence of the truth of your post just look at the numerous times when the Congress critters push some bizarre law through from start to finish in days with almost 100% support. People who can't agree on what color the sky is will suddenly unite on the craziest of things. Someone has to be pulling strings for that to happen. (and those strings have to be securely attached to the vast majority of our representatives)

Some people In Washington think they can break any rules of international law. They think that they are "exceptional" and therefore they can break any international laws in Syria and wherever they want.
But the Russian did not agree that the US may violate any laws always and wherever they want.
In addition, the Russian missiles do not know anything about "US exceptionalism."

Soon there will come a time when the idiots in Washington will sit in his underground bunker without being able to come to the surface. At this point, they certainly be realize that they made a mistake and the whole world disappeared. But this understanding does not allow them to bring the situation back and re-shoot the bad moments, as "unfortunate episode in the film", without the negative heros in the new episode.

US actions in Syria - it is illegal acts of military aggression against a sovereign country.
The gang is always a gang, even if the gang members call themselves the "Coalition" and even if the head of this gang is a corrupt cop.
The so-called "Anti Syrian coalition" led by the United States, in its essence, is a gang.
A nuclear war between the US and Russia could not start because one of them is stronger. A nuclear war can start only because Washington cynically violates all the basic norms of international law.

"Obama is trying to kill the Russian economy..."...bullshit..."Obama" is carrying out instructions from his "advisors" and the "Lobbyists". If Obama was truly running the show, none of this would be occuring.

I thought he was a Liberal? Anti/loathing the Military? Going to "Dangerously Cut" defense spending if he's elected? Going to "Take us off the World Stage"...What the fuck happened to all those predictions from the Right?

March 2, 2009 - Wall Street Journal

"Declining Defense...Obama's 2010 budget telegraphs that Pentagon spending is going to be under pressure in the years going forward..More ominously, Mr. Obama's budget has overall defense spending falling sharply starting in future years..The U.S. ability to project power abroad has been crucial to maintaining a relatively peaceful world, but we have been living off the fruits of our Cold War investments for too long. We can't afford another lost defense decade"

Obama takes office and immediately starts rolling back the military...then, "something" happens and 7 years later we've gone from ~$600 BILLION a year to ~$900 BILLION a year...50% INCREASE! I wonder why he "changed his mind" on military spending?

Actually, it's quite an awesome sight. The first time you see it you realize how powerful those rocket motors must be to create such a visual. I'm guessing the Cape Canaveral crowd would find it boring but I liked seeing it. I've seen it during the day, and at night.

Looks just like the video. I find it a bit odd for some to believe that those hugely expensive facilities at places like Vandenburg would never be used. But apparently lauching a rocket is now as politically incorrect as calling Caitlyn Jenner a man.

Of course Russia would win NATO. Just look at our Russian army - we are strong and smart.

Our missles are super modern as our navy missles.

Our BUK missel system can not only down passanger airplanes but bring fire everywhere.

We have strongets & newest tanks in world! Our military infrastructure is in best shape ever.

Our air force better than ever! And our plans to expand military power is working just as planed.

We have greater GDP than any other country in the world.

So NATO with it's tiny military budget is worthless.

US military tehnology is so outdated compared to Russia. US has lame military systems - just look at them.

As we all know Saddam, Gaddafi and all other free world leader had Russian MIG fighter jets - and we all know how those free world leader won US every time they meet US air force! Yes we are strong!

A few AWACS surveillance planes have been flying out of San Diego the last few days (they are not stationed here). The last time that happened was early July, and it turned out the Russian submarines were trolling us right offshore.

Americans dude too stupid to know their own Trident D-II missiles test. It's SLBM dude. Launch by submarines.

And this launch is ALWAYS informed, internationally through a military liaisons diolomatic channels. Cause the OTHER PARTIES? Would detects this launch through their IR spy satellites (haven't you learnt already about that western propaganda IR signatures of russia "supposedly" bomb blast IT sat's image?), or through their OTH (over the horizons radar).

Even Russia informs of their scheduled missiles test? They don't give EXACT TIME, GPS COORDINATES or DATE. But usually a ballpark of the area & date/time. It is ALWAYS done this way.

Saying this is "a secret" launch? Is just plain STUPID.

- - -

That test is called MISSILE CONFIDENT TEST. You sellect a decades old missiles and test fired it, to make sure, after decades of storaged in their containers? The missiles can STILL BE TRUSTED UPON LAUNCHING commands.

Usually US done this about 2-4 times a year averagedly.

Russia done usually >6 times a year (they have a more diversed types due to their geography to EU & Turkey).

Capish??

Don't asked me for links. If you follows my comments, you'll should already learnt from those sites i gave you.

This kind of test, are regulated in START treaty..

This "panic" tyler article, actuallyis a norm events.

However? It's so fun watching the twitter comments of how evcen Josh Groban thought it was a UFO? Geez... just tells you the level's of Americans "intelligents".

Bwahahahahahaha...

Why dont you go back to doing something you actually know about, like playing with your GI Joe dolls, you braindead foreign fucktard. Yours is just a lone, lunatic fringe voice railing at no one and nothing in particular. No one here can hear you, and even if we could, we would not care. Adults are talking here, go away...

There has been a lot of strange stuff going on in central AZ as well, more than usual anyway.  For two weeks (up until current time) C130 aircraft have been dumping a substance that was stringy and liquid like (has been indepedently tested and found to be aluminum, barium and strontium previously see below) all over Prescott Valley, Sedona, Chino Valley and Cornville areas.  The planes were seen in the day and could be heard at night.  Everybody is scared because the news doesn't want to cover it and attempts have been made in the past to contact the EPA etc who refused to investigate and sided with a local news station stating that the substance was "cow gauze with antibiotic".

There are strange things flying around all the time in both CA and AZ, whatever they are messing with I highly doubt they are missles.  These current CA videos remind me of what showed up over Norway a while back and who has ever seen missles look like that?  New technology maybe?

This is the best source I have so far, nobody is covering it, it is definitely happening.... again.  https://www.intellihub.com/c-130-aircraft-seen-dropping-massive-raindrop-shaped-fibers-onto-populace-militarized-experiment/

It looked to me like a Russian ICBM, launched from a submarine off the coast of Los Angeles during the most high-visibility portion of the week, with the ICBM set to land in Siberia where it can be safely retrieved. Rumour has it the US in the LA area are in the middle of war games, and the missile was launched during a pre-arranged test window.

You would have to be severely insane, or very very angry about the downing of an airliner, to do what I suggest in the previous paragraph.

The Russians now know their airplane was brought down by terrorists because the Brits have supplied them with credible evidence. This might be their way of giving notice to the only authorities in the US who are still seeing reason - the US military - given the guys in the government stopped making any sense over a year ago.
