"Grieving" Mother Of Murdered 9-Year-Old Spends Online Donations On New Car
Having very recently pointed out the growing epidemic of "online begging," seeing a mother use an online donation platform to raise funds to "lay her son to rest" seems like a laudible and donation-worthy cause. However, as ABC7 reports, the 'grieving' mother of murdered Chicago 9-year-old Tysham Lee used the funds to purchase a 2015 Chrysler 200 and after facing a torrent of abuse attempted to defend her seemingly callous act - "Y'all don't know nothing about me."
The mother of a 9-year-old boy fatally shot earlier this week is being accused of spending money donated through a GoFundMe effort intended for funeral expenses on a new car.
Karla Lee strongly denies the claim and commented on those who have taken to social media to criticize her.
The mother of slain Tyshawn Lee says it's simply not true. She said she did not use money donated to help pay for her son's funeral to buy a new car.
Karla Lee posted several videos to Instagram Saturday morning after a flurry of social media posts accused her of using money from her son’s GoFundMe account to buy the car. Lee says she used her own money.
The emotional 26-year-old says she bought the car to protect herself so she wouldn't become a target by walking or taking the bus.
"I told them I was scared and I was fearing," she said. "Too bad if y'all don't understand that."
“I got this s*** for my protection…I’m pretty sure that’s something my son would have wanted me to do,” she said in one of the videos. In another video, she says she was afraid of being targeted if she took public transportation.
"Y'all don't know nothing about me," she said. "For y'all to be bashing me like that, and I just lost my child."
Lee is defending herself after heavy criticism on social media accusing her of using donated money from a GoFundMe page. While she admits to buying a car, she says she used her own money to make the down payment for the 2015 Chrysler 200.
Lee said the controversy began after the dealership where she bought the car posted her purchase on Facebook without her knowledge. The post was deleted after negative reactions by supporters who donated.
"Once again, it just looks offsetting that out of nowhere you're driving around in a new car," said Aundra Lewis.
More than $17,000 was raised in four days through the donation page, which was created by a friend of Lee's to "Help Karla lay her son to rest."

We have no comment, the story speaks for itself. One can only imagine in this mother's mind, a brand new Chrysler was considered 'deserved, fair' given the loss of her son.

I don't know...the down payment on that car (as no one seems to say she paid for it all in cash) isn't all that much...her story seems plausible still. We know how these loans are given to anyone so why are we to assume she isn't the "anyone" at this moment? I'm just saying you can't assume too much here.
You can assume that a normal person wouldnt be thinking about going out and buying a new car right after thier young son was murdered.

This does not shock me. I never believe much of anything I read anymore anyway. I hope this whole thing is just a spoof that somebody completely made up. I'm sure it could be real, and if so, I figure people must have given much too much and with far too little evidence. There are a lot of people out on the streets and I sometimes toss in a few coins if they look really bad off. Some will use it to buy drugs, and others will buy cat food. If her son's funeral was paid for, which I'm pretty sure it was, then putting a down payment on a new car with any funds left over is wrong by what standard? People often buy things after tragic losses. If you give to a cause with a clean conscience, then any wrong-doing is on the recipient. If she had spent any extra money over the next 6 months eating ice cream and candy & gained 50 lbs, then no one would be saying a thing. I'm not defending her; I do not know her nor do I know her hearts intention, but I do know she is suffering at the loss of her child.
Consider all the money people give to "Breast Cancer Awareness"; I'm sure we are all already aware, but I'm damn sure most of the money does not go directly to help the survivors, but rather to bloated universities and pharmaceutical companies for "research", who will NEVER give a cure, for their is no profit in a cure. Individuals are often used in the corporate spotlight, while money is collected for more "awareness campaigns" & "finding the cure", while many victims suffers from the disease and its aftermath and then goes bankrupt because of the medical bills.
Take the example of the American Red Cross and Katrina; they collected tens of millions, BUT only a set amount was designated for the helping "victims" and the rest goes to the general slush fund. But never let a good crisis go to waste when you can take advantage of the kindness of strangers.
All the money given to Veterans causes (new ones popping up all the time), sponsored by the same people (corporations & associated entities), in many cases, that sent the kids to die for the bankers and corporations. Once in a while you will see the prosthetic leg story; but meanwhile the majority get crappy care and go bankrupt as well.
The point is, if you are going to give, then let it go or do not give. If you perceive an abuse to your giving, then the saying is "fool me once, then shame on you, but fool me twice and shame on me". Let it go; the woman lost her son. The good news is the child is with the Lord.
Another point; if it is within your ability to meet someones need, one you are actually aware of, then you should meet that need. So much easier for people to help a person you don't even know exists rather than help those in front of you;... humans.
And all culprits should be called out and either shamed or prosecuted accordingly! Sounds like GoFundMe is a suspect operation unto itself & bears much closer scrutiny! The entire Non-Profit Sector would be next!
You make a good point in that we do not shun or "call out" sin for what it is; now we have the results and they will get much worse, for we abandoned the fixed moral law written in our hearts. From what I've seen on other websites, the little boy lived with his grandmother, the funeral was provided by the parish, and the mother has a full-time job. Apparently, Go Fund It has rules regarding stated use of funds that were not followed. This may be a matter of fraud, not simply bad judgment.

Right now all energy and resources need to stay focused like a laser on the scolex of the tapeworm wrapped around the Earth, stealing trillions in currency and trying to start a global war. If she used only a small amount for the stated purpose, a moral person would have taken the other funds and pledged them to like causes, or worked with the local church to dedicate those remaining funds to other funerals for similar reasons (shot down and young).
A true christian believes that if you give freely (without breaking your own bank, obviously), then God will give back. (I do not really believe this myself, I simply believe in giving freely of money you don't need or that was meant for another purpose.)
