Third Freight Train Derails (Second Owned By Buffett) Days After Obama Kills Keystone Pipeline
On Saturday, we noted with great irony, that just a day after Obama - with great pomp and even more preaching - killed the Keystone XL pipeline, that a freight train with 32 cars, belonging to Warren Buffett's BNSF, had derailed north of Alma, Wisconsin prompting several road closures and a voluntary evacuation of the affected area.
Then on Sunday, barely 24 hours later, in another Wisconsin derailment incident, a train, this time with 100-car, carrying crude oil, derailed near the intersection of S. Montgomery St. and West St. in Watertown on Sunday afternoon. The Mayor said the derailment happened around 2:00 p.m. While this train did not belong to BNSF but to Canadian Pacific Railroad instead, that was hardly comforting to the people. The spokesperson said 13 cars tipped over, one of which was punctured and oil.

And then, moments ago in what we initially thought was a joke, KCRG reported that close to two dozen train cars derailed after a crash Monday morning. Lt. Brett Grimshaw of the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened a little after 8 a.m. when a coal train hit a road grader that had been backed up onto the tracks.
And before you ask, yes, this train, too, belongs to BNSF, which in turn belongs to Warren Buffett,
BNSF railroad spokesman Andy Williams said two locomotives and 21 of the 135 cars being pulled derailed near mile marker 249 of Highway 34, which is between Danville and New London close to the Henry County line.
The grader was backed up onto the rails while doing repairs on Highway 34 and didn’t see the train coming, Grimshaw said. The grader’s operator was thrown about 40 feet by the impact of the crash and was checked by paramedics. No injuries were reported, Grimshaw said.
Williams said the two tracks at the site are out of service until the spilled coal is removed and any track repairs are finished.
Which reminds of what we said yesterday:

And now make that 3 in the past 8 months. But at least the environment is safe because Obama finally pulled the plug on the "dangerous" Keystone XL pipeline.
Today, you can make that 3 oil trains in the past 8 months, and now add one coal train to the mix.

I thought Obama was the bad guy! How can he stand up against corporate elite!?
Its the pipeline mafia, I tellz ya.
Moving oil by train is so retarded, it's infuriating. A perfect sign of the times.
Rockerfeller is build first pipeline in 1900. Not only is J.D. protecct environmental but is also save more whale than is any other human being. Vive la Capitalism!
War is economic, by definition.
For whom? The poor people who are told their country is under attack, and jobless anyway, they sign up only to be killed in battle?
Or for the banks that issue war bonds to both sides? The banks that own stock and bond in armorment companies?
who is John Galt?
That was the question that popped into my mind
who is barack hoosayne owe-bomb-a ?
I don't know, but the motor grade operator does.
I was thinking I read about this somewhere...
Shipping oil by train is so archaic, not to mention dangerous. Why not by truck?
/stupid
" We derailed some folks. "
Maybe IBM could apply some of their predictive analytics to determine where and when the next derailments are likely to occur?
Tsk, I suppose you want one of those dangerous, ungreen pipelines instead of one of uncle Warren's super safe, environmentally friendly choo-choo's. I bet you think Caitlyn Jenner isn't a female either.......
Buffett lives by the bailout. His senility is being propped up by US Bailouts. He has neglected maintenance because they cost money and he knows he will suffer no financial risk.
Inject his veins with Diet Sugar water and watch him flop around for a while.
Berkshire profits up HUGE and yet they can't seem to keep their fucking trains on the tracks.
Sounds like Buffett and his cronies are stuffing their pockets and leaving the FEDs to clean up their shoddiness.
I think a nice VW or Exxon super-sized fine for these corporate criminals might be in order...
Giving more easments to pipeline companies to facilitate the transport of product that comes off historical lands ceded to the railways to begin with is retarded.
Talk about retarded...
Dallas-Houston bullet train company raises $75M, hires new CEOhttp://transportationblog.dallasnews.com/2015/07/dallas-houston-bullet-t...
Another taxpayer backed Boondoggle that will ride empty back and forth.
Yea...ask the ex- captain of the EXXON VALDEZ!!!
Awesome. Nothing like a well oiled river for wildlife. Good job enviro-nutjobs.
Why build safe, efficient pipeline when train and truck on regular basis is crash and spill to create environmental catastrophe which is give Congress and EPA sufficient reason to write new law and create new regulation. Necessity is cry of tyrant, manacle of slave. Forward Soviet!
Life immitating art ? Is this shit not straight out of the pages of "Atlas Shrugged" ? (along with a whole bunch of other stuff these days)
That's right. Ban safe oil transportation so that the Department of Homeland Security can start an Oil Train Safety division with 100,000 felons employed to "fix" this "problem." Charge a $5/gallon of gas Department of Homeland Security Oil Train Safety tax.
This is how we make shovel ready jobs in USSA. ^^
Time to put Buffet in jail
Putin would take that oil money! Took that blood money! He would took any money - don't care what it takes. Even if it means for russians to die because of war with ISIS.
Even if it means for russians to die because of war with US proxies.
There, fixed for ya
I smell a bail out!!
This has never been about the enviroment....ever.
This has always, from day 1, had to do with $. This global warming shit is just an excuse for just about everything...a squirrel died? global warming, it rained? global warming, it didn't rain? global warming, world poverty? global warming, cancer? global warming, antarctica grew? global warming, cold winter? global warming, school shootings? global warming etc etc etc.
In order to gain more power, the people in power need to first villify something and scare the shit out of people. Then they can raise taxes, add regulation, red tape, and everything else. Seeing as most people are dumb fucks they believe everything that is told to them.
This has always, from day 1, had to do with $. This climate change shit is just an excuse for just about everything...a squirrel died? climate change, it rained? climate change, it didn't rain? climate change, world poverty? climate change, cancer? climate change, antarctica grew? climate change, cold winter? climate change, school shootings? climate change etc etc etc.
Fixed it for you.
Derailment my ass ! .... call it what it is ... a train wreck ..!
An Obama policy.
OMG! A freight train derailment! End of the world! Call out the Natl Guard!!!!!!!
And while we are at it let's ban motorcycles and busses as a motorcyclist was tattooed by a bus
on Rockville Pike last week and died prior to transport.
Becky get me new trousers, I've soiled these again
Funny , buffet sneaking around in black burgler garb planting charges at night.
China dumps gravel and blows up chemical plants and cars they can't sell, Buffett derails trains and dumps oil
Broken WIndow fallacy in overdrive.
Still waiting for the Alaska oil pipeline to destroy Alaska, Eskimos, caribou herds, seals, polar bears, whales, snow geese, Brown bears, ...
They should have called out the EPA, now they know how to create an ecologic disaster...
Who cares thousands of our magestic bald eagles are chopped up every year by bird blenders in the sky so we can feel good about how we produce electricity.
Why did the IYT reverse its loss at 1:53
Thanks for the head's up on that one.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=iyt
And, BTW, that wasn't just any run-of-the-mill reversal, that was straight out of the PPT playbook.
These costs are going to keep making Tar Sands bitumen less and less profitable.
I can think of few things more stupid that strip-mining volatile carcinogenic compounds... that is, canadien tar oil.
Pounding the drum for more pipelines that will make it more cost-effective to get these open pits'... one of the worst environmental disasters on the planet... product to market is one thing > Asinine.
Are pipelines safer than rail? Yep.
But it's the source that makes them both terrible options. And to preempt the obvious "BUT BUT," NO, the oil isn't going to 'come out of the ground anyway.' Several multi-billion dollar extraction projects in the Sands have already been shelved, and this is being helped by the lack of infrastructure that keeps oil > market prices >$80/bbl.
TL:DR > FUCK THE TAR SANDS, and fuck anything that makes it cheaper to bring them to market.
This was the first thought that came to my mind when I heard that the deal was off and Obama had subsequently blocked it. My 2nd was how the carbon footprint of current crude transportation is greater than a pipeline. This hole thing should be an embarrasment for the administration and America in general. The same kind of stupidy drives the enthanol requirements.
This is not so much about pipelines but about rail infrastructure.
More money needs to be spent on upgrading, maintaining and improving rail corridors. Many lines are abandoned or in poor shape, threatened with closure, etc.
Rail transport was the backbone of this country for a century, until we let private interests and neglect destroy a large part of the system.
Double-tracking mainlines, reconstructing mainlines and eliminating grade crossings would go a long way, no pun intended.
^That.
What do any of these derailment have to do with the Keystone XL?? Would that have replaced ALL rail shipments in the US or something?
You people bitch too much.
This all seems very planned.......
And rumors of Canadian Pacific looking to takeover Norfolk Southern. Let's see what the regulators will come up with..
Becky has competition.
"Moving oil by train is so retarded"
So is banning email. If Buffet owned the post office Obama would ban email as well.
Obama must owe a lot of campaign money to Buffet.
atricle author drunk much ?
freight train with 32 cards ... 13 cars tipped over, one of which was punctured and oil... Today, you canm make that 3 oil trains in the past 8 months
who needs successful rails when you can collect on the insurance with obola as co-signer
A lot of coal is shipped out Norfolk, Virginia, to Europe, especially Germany. Why ship to Germany when they have a lot of coal in the Ruhr region? Because the Germans have severe environmental mining regulations that prevent the kind of wholesale strip-mining damage that is routine in the US. We sacrifice a lot of eastern Tennessee, eastern Kentucky, southern Ohio, and pretty much all of West Virginia so a few companies and people can make a lot of money.
Can't forget Carl Icahn. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Car_and_Foundry_Company
The EPA does not have anything to do anyway. So let them clean up as long as they use a Buffet Corporation to do the work. That way Warren gets paid twice. Once from the insurance company and once from Obama using the taxpayers money. Welcome to wacky world of Obama.
