Three Shot, One Dead In Midtown Manhattan Near Penn Station; Gunman Flees

Tyler Durden's picture

While shootings in Manhattan used to be a relative rarity in the past couple of years, they have become increasingly more common (despite the city's well known attitude toward carrying guns). Case in point, earlier this morning when shortly before 6:15 am, a 43-year-old man was shot and killed and two others were wounded in a shooting inside a subway station at Eighth Avenue and 35th Street in Manhattan, by Pennsylvania Station.

According to the NYT, the man, who was declared dead at the scene, was not immediately identified by the police. The two other victims, a 45-year-old man with wounds to his neck and abdomen, and a 48-year-old shot in the leg, were taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious condition, the police said.

The newspaper adds that according to preliminary information gathered by the police pointed to an altercation that began on the sidewalk near the 35th Street and Eighth Avenue entrance to the subway and spilled down into the station, according to a police official who requested anonymity to discuss the early stages of the investigation.

There is some confusion about the precise location of the shoot out: according to one official, the shooting took place inside the station, possibly on the platform. A second official said the men were shot on the subway’s stairs. It was not immediately clear if the three men knew each other though detectives believe they did. The reason for the shooting remained under investigation. The gunman may have fled in a car, the official said.

Another official said the shooting did not take place inside Pennsylvania Station. The shooting took place about two blocks from the spot along Eighth Avenue where officers shot a man on the street this year in connection with a string of hammer attacks two blocks north of this shooting.

The manhunt was underway for the gunman or gunmen, WABC-TV reported. The wounded were rushed to Bellevue hospital in serious condition, the station said.

On Monday morning, the east side of 35th Street was blocked with police tape as can be seen on the photos below. A swarm of police officers and squad cars stretched halfway down the block toward 34th Street.

People just spout Marx marx marx this and that like they have half a fucking clue.  "The whole proletariat must be armed at once with muskets, rifles, cannon and ammunition.  Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary."  Karl Marx

If you actually read Marx, lots of people here I think would actually agree with his assessment of the problems.   He fucked up big time when it came to the solution though.  But not even Benie Sanders is suggesting that the government take over the means of production, so bringing up his name today is mostly just dumb.

Funny how that never seems to happen in a Commie country.

In my experience, whenever hard-core Commies start talking about Communism, the claim it's never been tried because the implementation until now have all not followed Marx. That alone should tell a believer of empirical evidence that the theory does not work given human nature.

But, applying that argument, shouldn't Fascism, Feudalism, slavery, etc. be given more chances? No, because those systems allow a mafia to run a country, and the citizens become serfs or slaves with no private property.

THAT IS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH COMMUNISM.

Genius reply on the "high on soda", deserves more than a thumbs up.  Thank goodness they posted this article so that you could say that.   This disgusting chat format has my response so far away from what I'm responding to, it gets lost.  Absolutely no desire to improve this chat forum whatsoever.

Aside from that, why is this news?  Why is this important enough to post?  Murders happen constantly in a nation of 320 million.  Seems like its subliminal propaganda for gun control.  On facebook, there is a mini news feed on the upper right hand side.  Always, always, ALWAYS in that news feed is a clip on someone getting shot.  Some type of article where a gun was being used.

Its not news.  Its propaganda.  Example, if someone gets in a traffic accident and gets severely injured, should it be national news?  No, its too common, its not news, its life.  The reason ALL shootings are reported is because is gun control propaganda.  It shouldn't be, its too common.  But without fail, they all make the news and most of them, national news.

You are right. It was a great program.
You know what would work great? Police searching people's homes at random. NY should create a special division of detectives to do just that.
Also so people don't have a chance to see these detectives coming the searches should be performed late at night.
I imagine how much criminal activity could be found ??

I used to work in New York City. My last major gig there was in 1990 and lasted about a year. There were breadlines in the city that year due to recession.

Over 2,600 people were murdered in 1990 according to the statistics. Last year, the number of murders was slightly over 600.

Kind of puts that gun hysteria in perspective, no? Hysteria is exactly the word for it, too.

The White privilege theme huh, more intellectual dishonesty.  Too many variables here, not going to write a thesis and if I point out some details that don't support your white privilege thesis, they will be ignored, so why point them out?

You've got a bias, prejudice that is thick, so reinforcing nothing is going to budge it, under any circumstances or overwhelming evidence.  Aside from that, people don't understand or appreciate statistics.  30% means the same as 70%  Proof will be ignored, that's the bottom line.

The crime was so eggregious and proof was pulled off their cams.  Shot the kid while he was wearing seat belts.  18 shots fired, but why am I rambling about details?  They have no meaning to you.  Life is all about white privilege because you've been brainwashed and conditioned beyond repair.  Not even a professional deprogrammer could alter your thinking.

Niggers kill other niggers at a very high rate.  As an ethnic group, they are the most violent of any group in the US.  The supporting evidence can be found in the FBI crime stats.  This creates a stereotypical kneejerk every time a nigger dies at the hands of a cop, namely: nigger was threatening to use lethal force, b/c that's what niggers do . . . more than any other ethnic group in the US.  Is that right?  Is that fair?  Not on an individual basis.  But if you look @ the demographic aggregated data, that's the way to bet each hand.

One of the unfortunate outcomes of this is the constant apology for thugcop brutality and thugcop murders of citizens.  This is wrong and must be stopped . . . by changing the rules of engagement for cops.  Cops should not escalate to lethal force without having the threat of lethal force manifested against them.  And the tie in this one should go to the citizen who isnt bulletproofed or trained.  Like every other citizen, cops MUST be accountable for every round that leaves their duty firearm.  they must NOT receive unlimited taxpayer-funded paid time off during investigations of their actions resulting in the death of another citizen; and jury awards against cops whose actions resulted in injury or death MUST not come from taxpayers, but rather cop insurance or cop retirement funds.

You think your inside information is available to the reader of the article?  I don't know one area from another in New York City and don't care.  You aren't impressing me.  I will store the information as another shooting in NYC and that's not news, not at all but media is pushing it.

As it stands, the media is making it sound like shootings are as common as traffic accidents.  The reason is PROPAGANDA.  Guns are bad, ban them.  Females are the most susceptible to this type of propaganda and they are OVER 50% of the voting population.

Manhattan is like no where else on earth.

Sort of a bat eared alien/alternate universe  story.

Virtually all of the shootings and murders happen in Brooklyn, Queens, or the Bronx.

Manhattan has been very safe since the mid-1990s. By the mid-2000s, even Harlem and Hell's Kitchen had been pretty well cleaned up. You could still get mugged on the Lower East Side, but you really had to try. I remember walking drunk through Central Park at 2am in the late 90s/early 2000s and not feeling worried at all. Similarly, one could ride the subway inebriated at any hour and not worry too much. At 3am on a Saturday night, riding the A or C trains would feel sketchy but that was as bad as it got, all the other Manhattan trains were cool 24/7/365. But if you tried doing those things in the 70s or 80s, you would be taking your life into your own hands.

Stop-and-frisk is unconstitutional, but it worked. "Skells", as they are affectionately called in NYC, are pretty easy to spot on the island of Manhattan, given that none of them can afford to live there, so they stick out like sore thumbs when they are found hanging around. You would see rich black drug dealers in from Brooklyn to enjoy a day in Manhattan, but they would get left alone because (a) they had money to spend, (b) they had the smarts and social intelligence to know how to modify their appearance and behavior when on the island of Manhattan, and (c) my guess is, they treated Manhattan like neutral territory, so if they ran across a rival, they would ignore each other and restrict their beefing to the Outer Boroughs. The cops, knowing all this, simply left them alone.

Warren Wilhelm has fucked all this up, so it's no surprise that things are slowly starting to unravel on the Island of Manhattan. You would expect that Hell's Kitchen (where this shooting took place) would be one of the first neighborhoods to unravel, since it was one of the last to get cleaned up. LIFO, if you will. NYC is best given a wide berth for the foreseeable future.

You're right. I'm speaking in generalities. I'm sure parts of Harlem are still bad. Used to be a lot worse though.

That's a dodgey area by midtown standards. A lot of drug addicts lurk between penn station and port authority.

There's a few bright spots between the cesspools but not many since a thug can come out of nowhere and blow you away for 10 cents..

Similarly, a crack whore could come out of nowhere and just blow you for 20 dollars.

Shark bait said-"They just need to make the 'Gun Free Zone' signs larger. I am sure the shooter just didn't see the signs. If he/she had, they certainly would have complied. No doubt they will fix this straight away."

It's not that the perp didn't see the sign, but the fact that it was in ENGLISH.
Not only is English the major language spoken any more in NYC most of those people can't even read thanks to the wondifferrous edumacation provided by their public screwell system.

So they have that going for them. Which is nice!

Buh, buh, but...they have GUN CONTROL. That prevents all gun crime, the commies say so and they never lie.

THEREFORE, this DID NOT HAPPEN.

It must be part of some vast right wing conspiracy designed to make Hillary look bad, or something similar and equally as spurious.

How did that gun get into the city? Did it take the train, the bus? Didn't anyone stop to let the gun know that it wasn't allowed in the city? That it was "illegal"? Perhaps it was just an "undocumented" gun that just needed a handout.
