Germany Sells Out Of Pepper Spray As "Frightened Germans Buy Protection Against Refugees"
Despite occasional videos of angry Germans protesting at what has become the biggest "foreign invasion" of Europe since World War II, the German popular response to the wave of migrants, which is now expected to top 1 million in 2015 has been relatively calm. Fear (and anger), however, are building beneath the otherwise calm surface.
According to a report by Focus, following a 600% surge in sales over the past two months, Germany has run out of pepper spray, and the irritating substance can now only be purchased after weeks of waiting. Focus says that according to pepper spray manufacturers, "frightened Germans" have bought out all the available inventory. The alleged reason, according to the German publication: "die Flüchtlingskrise", or the refugee crisis.
Focus goes on to say that in private, Germans are equipping themselves "massively."
"There is fear" explains Kai Prase, managing director of DEF-TEC Defense Technology GmbH in Frankfurt, one of the major producers of repellents. "For the past six to seven weeks we have been practically sold out."
Compared to last year, orders have increased by more than 600 percent in the past two months. Only partial deliveries are possible Prase told FOCUS. The waiting period has already reached about five weeks.
The punchline: the reason producers and distributors give as the surge in demand is "the huge influx of refugees in recent weeks which has apparently unsettled many people."
Their concern is understandable.
It will be even more understandable when the Germans, traditionally one of the most fiscally conservative nations, realize that the cost to house just the 1.1 million in refugees that already have or will arrive in Germany by the end of the year, is now said to be $22.5 billion.
That is the cost estimate of the German IFO research institute, and which is now more than double its prediction in September, as CNN reports.
Putting this number in US context, it would be the equivalent of nearly $100 billion spent to house a record influx of 4-5 million immigrant in just a few months.
For now the only winner emerging in of the entire refugee crisis, is the ECB which thanks to the surge in refugees, and the spike in German fiscal deficit, will mean Germany has to issue tens of billions in additional debt: debt which the seller-deprived ECB will gladly gobble up to extend the life of Europe's Q€ by a few extra weeks.

I have received a face full of OC pepper spray and it does a lot more than just "burn" to most people. I knew it was coming, took a breath before, and had my eyes closed and it still hurt like hell. If you don't expect it and and have your eyes or mouth open, it's even worse. You will barely be able to breath. There are plenty of cases of hardened criminals still fighting the cops after getting sprayed, sure, but some skinny hajji looking to rape you is going to drop to his knees. All you have to do is incapacitate him long enough to get a 30 second head start in most cases. OC spray will usually do that.

They may try, that is if they are too deluded to realize just how many people three percent of the population really is.
Intent matters in most european systems of law. Carrying knives, pepper spray, batons etc is illegal, Though, pretty much anyone can carry a bicycle chain without any problems with intent, it's easy to claim you simply forgot it was in your bag.
Look into some armour; cut resistant clothing, you can get zip-in jacket liners or hoodies for example which will prevent slashes from knives entirely and dramatically reduce penetration of blade thrusts as well. e.g. Cut-Tex.
Beyond that if you're worried then take up a martial art; Japanese Ju-Jutsu is a commonly available non sport martial art which teaches all unarmed methods of combat covering all ranges from kicking/punching through to ground fighting. In Germany the police use a variation of this now called Deutsch Ju-Jutsu which is widely available. Ignore all the Chinese derived systems (Karate, Kung-fu and TaeKwonDo/TangSooDo) they have devolved over the years or so into games of tag with no martial value and the teachers in many/most cases have no idea how their martial art functions. Also avoid martial arts which are purely sport related, e.g. those who's primary tactics assume you're going to be fighting a single unarmed opponent in a sporting ring.

Ju-Jitsu or Krav Maga are the most applicable for direct self defense. The problem is the lady who starts lessons today is still subject to being raped tomorrow. There is a learning curve and practice timeline before the hands on arts kick in. Same with a knife or firearm. Pepper spray though not great is easy to deploy but I have juiced people who were hopped up enough or used to peppers such that the stuff hardly worked anyway. A PR-24 comes in handy at that point. So you have to appraoch it all angles of potential attack and training needed for a variety of defensive tactics/weapons.
Carry a vat of bacon grease....probably more effective than all of the above.
