Mob-Violence-Inciting University Of Missouri Media Professor Resigns
A victory for common-sense? Who knows anymore. But following the disgusting debacle on Mizzou's campus yesterday, Melissa Click - the media professor who incited mob violence against a reporter who was doing his job - has reportedly resigned. As NYTimes reports, Click noted in a statement, "I regret the language and strategies I used," which we suspect, roughly translated, means "I regret being caught bullying a reporter." The university seems to be distancing itself from Click, noting that her position was a "courtesy appointment."
If you haven’t seen the video of Click from yesterday, you must watch it immediately, and trust me, you need to watch it from beginning to end to truly understanding how dangerous Melissa’s Click’s request is. She is essentially advocating a mob of student inflict violence upon another student merely for taking pictures in public.
Thanks to this, what began as protests against systemic racism at the school has morphed into another prime example of how college campuses have devolved into ignorant, pro-censorship intellectual wastelands.
But now, as The NY Times reports, after calling for “some muscle” to remove a journalist from a public demonstration, the professor cut her ties to the university’s journalism school on Tuesday as protest organizers — and the professor herself — joined college officials in stating that journalists had a right to be present.
The professor, Melissa Click, an assistant professor in the department of communication had what was described as a “courtesy appointment” at the School of Journalism, meaning that she could serve on student thesis review panels. “Journalism school faculty members are taking immediate action to review that appointment,” David Kurpius, the dean of the school, said in a statement released Tuesday, stressing that Ms. Click did not teach at the school.
Dr. Kurpius said in a message on Twitter late Tuesday that Ms. Click resigned her courtesy appointment with the journalism school during a faculty meeting that day. It was unclear whether her status within the department of communication, which is in the College of Arts and Sciences, had changed.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ms. Click said, “I regret the language and strategies I used, and sincerely apologize to the M.U. campus community, and journalists at large, for my behavior, and also for the way my actions have shifted attention away from the students’ campaign for justice.” She said she had called the journalists involved to apologize, personally.
Mr. Tai said he accepted the apology.
“I never had ill will toward her and I felt bad when I heard she’d been getting threats,” he said. “I think this has been a learning experience for everyone involved, myself included, and I hope this blows over for both of us.”

Honestly, I think its admirable she apologized and resigned. She was clearly in the wrong, she got caught in a very public manner, and she immediately took responsibility for her actions and the consequences that go with it.
I wish everyone had this level of responsibility. You know, like when the cop in Seneca SC shot the teenager in the back over a 10 gram pot sting operation, it would've been nice if at least one state official had stepped up and said - "it's not worth taking a life over a drug that is legal in almost half the country and can be grown in any weed patch. We are cutting all state funding use to enforce the drug war. We were wrong, things are worse now than they were before we started this."

So far as I can tell, she has not resigned from the UM Dept. of Communication. Click teaches mass media as an assistant professor in the Department of Communication. The School of Journalism is a separate entity.
Kurpius noted in his statement that Click is not a professor in the Missouri School of Journalism, but a member of the Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Science. "In that capacity she holds a courtesy appointment with the School of Journalism. Journalism School faculty members are taking immediate action to review that appointment," he said.
The Department of Communication also issued its own statement Tuesday, condemning intimidation of journalists but declining to comment on Click's status. "We applaud student journalists who were working in a very trying atmosphere to report a very significant story," it said. "We reiterate our commitment as communication scholars to the transformative power of dialogue."

Since you mentioned it, perhaps you should look back and as much live, on the ground footage as you can from Ferguson. The destruction of that neighborhood was very much a planned response by the police.
Conspiracy theory? Not really. During the height of the protests there were actually two large epicenters. Ferguson and South Grand, both in St. Louis. While police lines held, even with the national guard and helicopters, in Ferguson they did nothing. No real attempts at crowd control at all. On South Grand protestors were routinely fired upon with rubber bullets, loudspeakers, and tear gas. In one particularly extreme example the police fired tear gas onto a patio on private property where protestors had gathered with the owner's full support.
South Grand sustained very light damage, mostly a few broken windows, some appeared to be by police during their free for all non-lethal shooting party. No buildings were burned, lots of arrests, and the infringment of private property including police entering private property to drag out and arrest random protestors.
We all know what happened in Ferguson though. A police force multiple times the size of those on South Grand stood by and watched the city burn. I would say on purpose. The destruction of select businesses was also odd, it wasn't a specific path nor where there were a heavy concentration of protestors. Many of the fires that started appeared to be set from the roof.

Last November, Thanksgiving to be exact, I found myself in Biloxi, Mississippi. That was the time period where Ferguson, Mo was in flames, lots going on.
I took leave of screaming kids and decided to take a drive, smoke and joint and explore the immediate area I was in. I drove past a little quaint bar called "Fuzzies" situated along the Biloxi river, I had finished my joint, just getting nice and mellow when I drive by, and decided to turn around and check it out. As I parked in front, a lg tall blonde pulled up in a new Lexus stepped out and I asked her if this was a private club. She noticed my car plates and inquired if was from Ferguson Missouri. I responded that I lived in western Missouri and "there wasn;t any niggers burning anything down where I lived". That gal laughed out loud, took me through the entry door, intorduced me to the croud and I drank many beers with them and paid for none.

Numerous offences committed in such a short period of time. If this 'school of journalism' has any true leadership, then the video should be used as an educational tool. Spell out to staff and students exactly how they went wrong, why they went wrong, and the consequences of their thinking, for themselves and the wider world.
Meanwhile, some highly regarded news company (few exist) should hire the steady young photographer who calmly repeated: 'The First Amendment protects you and me.' He can acquire better technical skills as time goes by, but he has already proven the most important thing: he has the temperament for the job; steady under fire.
Terminate the contract of the 'professor', and perhaps criminal charges for her and the 'concerned citizen 50' who inflamed the situation.
Suspend any student seen to be pushing or threatening the journalists.
Call an assembly of the entire faculty and student body for an address on the First Amendment, and the meaning of the free Press, and free association.
Every Editor in the country should make formal complaints to the University, and publish Editorials in their own media, warning about the dangers of sliding into mob rule, and fascism - clearly on display in the video put up by ZH. Well done,ZH.
