If you're from Canada I suspect you're from Quebec. I've travelled your country extensively, from East to West and as far North as Umiujaq. Without exception, including the time I spent stranded without a plane (thus being an unexpected guest of the Inuits in Kuujjuaq), Canadians have been generally wonderful and welcoming. In fact, I had an ear infection while in Kuujjuaq and the local doctor treated me and refused any payment... even though I'm an American.
The only assholes, such as yourself, that I've had the misfortune of meeting in your country are from the Montreal area. Congratulations on keeping the reputation alive.

Mea culpa, I forgot that I used to practically live in Quebec bars in my 20s. Quebec lets their residents drink booze till 3:00am, but Ontario makes us stop drinking at 1:00am. Back in my 20s I could drink till 5:00am no problemO by just crossing over to Hull Quebec for the French babes n' bars.

I'll agree to a peace treaty. Interesting thing about Quebec bars (aside from the women)... The past three times I've imbibed in a bar in Quebec, my credit card number was stolen by the bartender. I'd get calls from the bank asking if I was shipping sometihing out of Brazil! I guess the Frenchy's like to take advantage of us Yanks as a matter of business.
I met one beautiful girl in a Quebec bar many years ago. I asked the bartender if he knew her name and he replied, "Mold." I'm not sure what her actual name was, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Mold.
If you go to bars in Quebec make sure to leave the credit card at home and bring cash instead. And make sure to look French by dressing like they do so they don't think you are English. They hate the English no matter where we come from. French chicks are excellent, but French guys are arrogant as hell, and they will rip you off BIG time. The bartender was probably saying a French swear word like 'merde' which means 'shit' in French. :) I'll bet Canadian dollars-to-American-donuts on that one. And don't ever tell people in Quebec you are an American because they will really rip you off if you tell them that. I think they take it as a challenge to stick it to everyone that ain't French and loyal to France.
p.s. If you are an American hunter, or fisherman, they will treat you really good at the fishing & hunting camps because that is their livelihood. But Montreal, and Quebec City, are another story.
I am both a hunter and a fisherman. I've had nothing but good experiences in the camps. I started using Sammy Cantafio as a fly-in guide service for caribou but made enough friends with the locals that I started to go to private land for the past number of years. Got many caribou and mule deer in the country and made even more lifelong relationships.
Some of the best hunting I've ever done was on a friend's ranch in Calgary. But you really need to bring your hiking boots.
You have to read _Down and Out in Paris and London_ by George Orwell right away given that you got the French treatment in Montreal via the credit card being ripped off.
