Despite a modest bounce in the headline Consumer Comfort index, the under-currents are ugly. The "state of the economy" and "personal finances" surveys tumbled to 2 month lows. But the biggest crashes in comfort were among two interesting cohorts - black Americans' comfort plunged to its most uncomfortable relative to white Americans in 2 months...
and 35-44 year olds saw comfort crash the most in 13 months to 3-month lows.
So it appears, if The Fed is to reinvigorate animal spirits, it needs to focus on black Americans between 35 and 44 years old...

Funny, I can remember as a kid how it was the conservatives who were warning about over population. They warned how free food, housing and money caused irresponsible people to over breed. They warned about the strain on the social services and social structure and the damaging effect on the enviroment. The problems with feeding increased people, increased infrastructure, open land having to be paved, and so on.
It was the "liberals" of the time that screamed these discussions were hate speach, racists, and so on. Even the Sierra club refused to mention the problem with over population and how illegals would also cause over population in the US.

You're assuming they have the ability to recognize a "better man" to pick. Odds are they picked a guy sorta like their, there sometimes, dad. It's a cycle that has to be broken and you don't do that by taking away birth control options.
I have kids in school, and there is no "education" of the kind of life you'll, most likely, live if you're 23 with 3 kids and no husband. The only chance girls have comes from their parents; which is a 50/50 bet.
We need to do a MUCH better job of getting the point across. Bring in single moms, let them break down and cry in front of the class...take field trips to the home of single moms...listen to thier stories...that is powerful stuff...forget books..show the kids real life and real people.
With my kids, I drove them through the dumpy/scary part of town and "informed" them that the people living here probably "hated school", got low grades, or possibly just dropped out...my kids are straight A students. "Seeing it", rather than "hearing it" makes a much stronger and lasting impression on a persons mind.

As an aside, most of the really responsible Black adults that I have met in the US were funneled through the US Military. They received a lot that may have been missing from their family life in the military. This applies to white/black/male/female....
