Caught On Tape: Pollution 1 - 0 China
Over the past 3 years, as a result of its accelerated launch into the industrial-age with no emission controls, China has been fighting an unprecedented war with air pollution, which as documented extensively before, has resulted in air quality in most Chinese metropolitan areas which in virtually unbreathable, and which is estimated to kill 4,000 people per day.
Sadly, when it comes to its war with pollution, China keeps on losing the war. The latest proof comes from the following clip by Reuters showing that for all the grandiose talk out of Beijing, China is simply unable to have both an economy growing at 7% (really below 3%) and breathable air.
Here's the latest video from Reuters explaining why:

And people bitch about climate change and shit here in the USA. Really? Clean this hell hole up. Haven't you seen those Chinese Rivers full of old computer monitors...and the kids using bunson burners to unsolder the silver from old circuit boards all day? These people are nuts.

They like their Coal..
Fuck they like their Coal!
See that, Barry ? Global Warming Macroaggression !
This is why China wants Russian Natgas, since it burns much cleaner than any other mass petroleum based product.
Long P100 filters.
pods
Remember this is just the polution that you can see, which is the only type of polution the Chinese government will (eventually) even try to do anything about.
There are many many other more serious sources of polution in their water and food supplies. But you cannot see these so most people ignore it. China in 30 years is going to be wasteland.
it's always funny when westerners from countries only a few hundred years old are so dramatic about countries dying in mere decades =p
long game, son!
The smog today in Zhengzhou was epic. I almost couldn't see the ground from my apt.
Would be wiser to invest in Thorium reactors.
They actually are investing in thorium reactors both China and India are very heavy and it.
It actually wasn't that long ago that Southern California looked like this from time to time. Probably less than 30 years ago, you could expect areas of So.Cal to look like this at least once a year.
However, Southern California has a geological problem that exacerbates smog concentration, it is a coastal city where the dominating sea breeze blows anything created in the basin up against high mountains. By contrast, most of Chinas cities that look like this lie near the coast with nothing blocking air flow as I understand things.
San Bernardino, 1968. The smog was so thick it felt like soup on the tongue and raw gas on the eyes. I stood at a street corner and could barely make out the streetlight. I've never forgotten it.
Then, as a kid, I didn't know about thermal inversion and the blocking effect of the mountains. I only knew that it was miserable to walk in.
Yep, I can remember the sharp pain when you took in a deep breath. It was probably a little better in LA and OC.
It wasn't that long ago ALL of the US was in a similar state. I grew up in an era where the Great Lakes were almost dead, every eastern city in the US had smog problems not too far removed from these pics (albeit not as bad), and lakes and streams throughout the country were dying from acid rain or chemical toxins.
Without question the Chinese need to clean their shit up. But its important to remember from wence we came, and how recent that journey out of the abyss was.
How does one expect china to keep making cheap stuff for us to buy if they have to get bogged down in the details of pollution control? I need my smart phone to come in at a certain price point or else, dammit!
As takeaction2 says above, in China they have kids using bunson burners to unsolder silver from circuit boards all day, which is one of many examples, and they have rivers literally swiming in old computer parts.
The US never had anything close to the environmental problems China has. Yes there were some cities with smog issues, but that is a far cry to what you'll find over there today.
American citizenses just jealous they have no growing economy but virtual fatasies.
This is what happens when you shit in your own mess kit.
COAL JUNKIES.
If China pollution is caught on tape, then that is solution? Is use Duct Tape or Packging Tape to catch pollution?
In China, you do not capture pollution, pollution captures you1
On the plus side you can break wind and nobody knows or cares...
#ChiComUtopia
Seems in Soviet Union they sent pollution to the gulag.
It is those hazy, lazy, crazy days of summer.
24 / 7 / 365.
They so rucky.
Small price to pay for glorious economic future created by workers of the Communist Party.
Those poor children don't get to run around screaming like brats? That's child abuse!
too many chinese. someone had to say it.
This is all because Volkswagen cheated on their emission controls.
CtPa Town Lives Matter.
Sky is quite yellow.
At least China has much growth.
Clean air not needed.
don't know if you've been up in a plane recently but the sky is brown EVERYWHERE
Messes up the haiku. Maybe...
The sky is all brown....
sky be brown bitchez
breath in the global warming
gimme your money
#WINNING!
Madness.
4,000 a day not that they couldn't stand to lose a couple hundred million. just saying
They can always migrate to Europe.
Thanks! I needed a good laugh for the day. Screw China.
Only problem is, we are down wind.
And, they are pumping so much shit into the air to create shit products to sell to shit American consumers, it is now a vicious circle.
A shit circle.
The Pacific isn't wide enough to clear it all out of the air - we are breathing their industrial pollution, eating it off of our food crops, and drinking it in our water.
Next time it is dry weather for a couple of days, go wipe your fingers across the roof of your car, and then take a look at what comes off as dust through high magnification.
That will give you pause for thought, and convince you that a continuous detox program of food intake may be the only way you will live to be 80 with no serious cancer or illness.
It's such a shame that fine businessman can't compete in the good ol' US of A because we demand clean air and non-red rivers. If only we would allow chewable air and flammable waterways, our industry would return.
Lol @ flammable waterway...Chicago river not so long ago.
China just decided to honor Cloud City for the upcoming Star Wars release.
And you wonder where the jobs went...well there's your answer. We may have clean air, but you're also jobless and dead fucken broke...
OK, everybody go to China
live hard
die fast
clean air? where? (except in the mountains)
OT: Here comes the 3:30 ramp job!
China would be so much more exciting with John Carpenter music playing in the background....
Chinese now escape to West under cover of smog.
AND they smoke like chimneys
Probably safer to do so.
London used to be like that. Chicago used to be like that.
Can't wait til 2018 when free energy tech starts rolling out ... if we live that long.
How do I tell this from fog? If it truly is pollution would it not be always present?
Valley smog is pulled in from around, i think it is called inversion. Windy days make a huge difference. Along with the smog, sickening smell of petroleum or other industrial byproducts results. This happens in Central Valley CA.
That looks sustainable....
no wonder china stopped the 1 child per household law. In 15 to 20 years half the population will be dead from cancer and emphysema.
But thats exactly what they need to lower pollution.
The guy that invents a coal scrubber that turns coal smog to water, electricity and fresh air is going to make Gates look poor
Yeah and pigs will fly.
It can be done, HOWEVER, the process requires far more energy than is produced by burning the coal. Sorry.
These Chinese have no imagination.
They just need to fill those empty returning cargo ships in Seattle and Hongcouver with LNA*, and release it in China
* Liquified Natural Air..
With ghost cities and smogs, surely China can offer great studios for apocalypse movies.
