In Oregon There Are Now More Marijuana Shops Than Starbucks Or McDonalds

In the state of Oregon, where marijuana for recreational purposes was legalized just over a month ago, there are already more retail marijuana shops than there are McDonald’s or Starbucks.
According to Oregon’s Health Authority, there are 281 marijuana businesses in the state due to the fact that there was already a vast network of medical dispensaries there. When legalization kicked in, these dispensaries were able to quickly repurpose themselves as retail outlets. This allowed the industry to grow much quicker in Oregon than it did in Colorado or Washington.
In Oregon, there were over 250 medical marijuana dispensaries that were immediately able to sell to recreational customers, while in Colorado there were just 24 retailers open on the first day of legalization — and Washington had only four.
In fact, in Oregon, the cannabis industry is already becoming as visible as major fast food corporations, with more locations in the state than both Starbucks and McDonald’s. They have 248 and 205 locations, respectively.
It is important to mention that many different businesses and owners make up the 281 marijuana shops across the state, while Starbucks and McDonald’s are individual businesses. For example, the total number of marijuana shops are not being compared to the total number of fast food or coffee shops, but to specific fast food and coffee corporations. However, it still shows how marijuana is quickly becoming a very important part of the economy and of pop culture.
According to Business Insider, Oregon already has the second-highest number of medical marijuana patients, running close behind Colorado.
The state sold over $11 million dollars worth of marijuana in the first week of legalization. The sales in Oregon in the first week actually outshined both Colorado and Washington.
In Colorado, sales reached nearly $5 million in the first week, while Washington retailers made just $2 million in that state’s first week of sales.
As with the retail locations in Colorado and Washington, many of Oregon’s shops are concentrated in major cities like Portland, with only a few locations in rural areas.
The growing marijuana industry is not only extremely lucrative, but it is also a more gender-equal environment than many other businesses. As we reported last month, there are more female executives in the marijuana industry than there are in any other industry.

In a past life I grew some those weeds in question. Totally organically, no chemical bath ( I have never heard that one), to suggest that most is tainted with chemicals is just wrong and an ignorant idea to be telling others.

One of the most commonly used chemical they spray on the plants is K2 which is concentrated synthethic tetrahydrocannabinol and sometimes also quinine.
The effects of the weed is increased and it has a handy little side effect that common weed doesn't have!

My cousin started smoking pot at 14 and turned into a complete idiot and started stealing from everyone. Even if pot were legal, he'd still be stealing to buy it. He stole a $1500 necklace from my wife's jewelry box and probably traded it for $50 worth of pot.

From what I've read it is chemically different, you can't get high but have the pain relief properties.

Plus, many cannabinoids including both d9-THC and CBD are antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial, which also contributes significantly to their healing properties. There are certain varieties of weed which have been developed that are low in THC but high in CBD, and those have received much attention from certain folks who desire healing but for superstitious reasons don't want to get "high." Personally, I have no use for such varieties. I like to get high.

California. On a recent visit I had a chance to see some up close. Big sticky buds that I could smell when I first got out of my truck. I declined to sample out of fear it would put me in a coma or something. I could swear that I almost got a buzz just being up close to it.
the best pot i ever smoked was in the 70s. both times out of nyc. blackish green heaven. there was a lot of good reefer around back then if tou had a source from jamaica or columbia. but you are right. there is a lot more very good pot on the street today.

In other parts of the world, they use cannabis so they can ignore hunger, thirst and work harder.
Cannabis's sole effect is to make you feel good using the body's own chemical to do so. 'High' is apparently the top end of feeling good, and remember we use the word for both? Brains of very many different knd of organisms apparently like getting high from a wide variety of substances.
Cannabis is one of the most benign. I told my son that no one should mess with their brain chemistry if they could avoid it, but if they had to get high, cannabis is the way to go. Pray your kids do their drug experiments with cannabis at home, that is the least risk way of getting through that bit of growing up.
As pain relief, cannabis is far better than anything else I have used. In fact, the worst thing I can say about it is that it is so good you end up avoiding doing something about the problem for an extra couple of days.

The term "medical marijuana" is a euphemism. It's complete horse-shit. There is no known disease that marijuana treats or prevents. The best that can be claimed for it is a vague prophylaxis against pain and nausea. (And even that much I don't buy. Personally, whenever I smoked it, it always made me nauseous; and besides, there are plenty of other drugs that treat those things). Medical marijuana was always a camel's nose for complete recreational decriminalization. The ironic thing is, drugs like cocaine, amphetamines, barbituates, and opiates all have accepted medical uses and can greatly alleviate human suffering, including psychological suffering. Marijuana does not have an accepted medical use and is pretty much a one-dimensional stupifying agent, and yet that's the one they decide to legalize. It's ridiculous.
During the 3 weeks of my sister's rapid death from stage 4 cancer in 2012, the ONLY peace she had during that time was because of medical marijuana. Sorry - but you are full of shit.
She still died though. "Medical Marijuana" didn't do a damn thing.
All the marijuana did was ease her suffering. The same thing high doses of opiates would have done.
If you really wanted to ease her suffering you would have put a pillow over her face. Three weeks of agony isn't worth it.

You have some really misguided and often violent solutions to isuses. Besides the potential drug-drug or drug-allergy interactions, there are lots of side effects and issues with people on massive doses of opiates especially if they are taking multiple opoids.
As for easing suffering, pain management is often the biggest concern in any care plan for a terminal patient whether they are in a hospice, home, or in the hospital.
You would rather someone take an halucinagetic drug that is extremely addictive and gets you way way higher than Maryjane!

Everyone I know is pretty careful not to be real high, but the stuff lasts, same as alcohol. So sometimes you end up a bit high. You are very careful because you know you are not in a normal state and you are less confident of everything.

I smoke every day all day long, and yes, I drive too. Driving stoned is nothing like driving drunk. I wouldn't be afraid to get high and pilot the space shuttle on reentry. (If I were an astronaut, of course...)

Marijuana is something that I think ALL kids have tried, and you either like it or you dont, if you like it you will smoke it wether it is illegal or not.
This fanatical idea that if we legalize it our kids will smoke it or if they legalize it people will drive on it. I have news for you, people already smoke it in your community and there are people driving on it. heck here is the biggest shocker for you to get your head around...It is already in your community and has been for a long time... legalizing it just stops your kids from going to jail... for all of you that think it is the devil, please just open your mind a little, it can be very relaxing, especially at the end of a day, It can help you get a good night sleep without taking some over the counter drug. Is it safe, yes, you can smoke all you want you only get so high and just run out of weed.
I would much rather my kids were at home in the basement smoking weed than out in the streets getting into trouble.

We have had 100s of years experimenting with both. We know how prohibitions of all kinds, artificial barriers to economic and social flows, fubar systems. We can, nevertheless, bias the world toward better ideas, and be the citizens of the civilization we wnt to inhabit. I strongly discourage having hard drugs like tobacco in our home. I tolerate alcohol because so many of the older generations' mindset seem to need it, although I have been noticing a lot more combining them. Bad to mix drugs, I think.
The good part of mixing Maryjane with alcohol is that you will consume far less alcohol or you will be asleep a lot sooner. But it may not hurt N. America if it gets more sleep.
Hash oil you can vape is the way to go. Nice mellow, almost euphoric effect with no paranoia, rapid heartbeat or munchie inducing hunger pangs. Helps me with focus, believe it or not, and keeping the stress in check.
