9/11, 3/11, 7/7, 11/13; New York, Madrid, London, Paris

9/11, 3/11, 7/7, 11/13 = New York, Madrid, London, Paris

Better to wait a day before writing, after a night like that. What does one write after such a night anyway? And why write anything at all if you can be dead sure to always antagonize some one on some side of some spectrum, ideological or not, no matter what you write, unless you tag some safe official line, and even then, or especially then?

Better to soak in what the official media have to say, or so one might think. After all, they got all the resources and the reporters and the analysts and -access to- the politicians, and most of all the attention of the people.

Unfortunately, all that firepower -pun intended- is used only to tag official lines. To provide air space to ‘leaders’ who profess their utmost grief and sadness and anger and solidarity over barbarous criminal “acts of war” that they swear will be avenged with all the power they have. It’s so predictable it’s like all of their spin doctors have been sent on a Caribbean holiday at the same time, and together.

Still, it also doesn’t seem very appropriate to address the economic issues we usually talk about, at least not at first glance. Respect for victims and families must come first, that is a given. Then again, it does seem appropriate, out of that very same respect, to get to the bottom of what’s behind these attacks that will at final count leave perhaps 200 people dead on what started as a nice and balmy autumn evening in the city of lights. And the politicians’ truisms and platitudes don’t exactly help.

But how does one go about that truth finding? French President Hollande declared eerily early in the ‘game’ he was sure ISIS is behind the tragedy, and ISIS statements seem to confirm that conclusion. But what is ISIS? And where does it come from?

It’s no longer really credible to entirely ignore the role of the west, including France, in the origins of the ‘movement’, if it can be called that. From Al Queda to ISIS, and scores of groups and factions in between and beyond, there is at least some kind of link to western military action in the middle East. And that link goes back quite a few years, if not decades.

So if we really want to pay the kind of respect to the victims that comes with trying to figure out what’s behind these attacks, it would seem that we can’t get it done without a critical look at our own roles in what led up to this. Not to say that we’re the only guilty party, or that the perpetrators are not cuckoos, but to say we’re not credible if we completely ignore our own roles and don’t look in a mirror.

Hence, the first reaction we probably might want to have is that it’s enough alright with the ‘us’ vs ‘them’ meme. Even if, or exactly because, that reaction is, obviously, 180º removed from what the initial reactions to the attacks are, whether they’re provoked by media coverage or not. And they are. It cannot be only ‘us’ vs ‘them’. No black, no white. To understand this world you need a lot more than that.

If we try to phrase it that way, and we’re only halfway decent and honest about it, there’s no escaping that in the final analysis we indeed are them. We’re not like them, we are them. ‘We’ have spread terror, death and mayhem across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions for a long time (to a large extent because that’s where the oil is, but that’s a story for a different day).

And then ‘we’ took it up a notch with the removal of the likes of Saddam and Gaddafi, leaving rudderless societies in their wake.

We can’t pretend to be honest and still ignore the fact that for many people in the Middle East a day like this Friday 13th is their everyday routine. And that that’s what makes them refugees. Many Parisians -or New Yorkers, for that matter- would do the same, get out of Dodge, if this were a common event in their city. Not only because of the danger and the fear, but also because there would be no functioning society or economy left, and hence no future.

No matter how you look at it, there’s no denying it’s kind of ironic that attacks on Beirut that were similar in many regards to the ones in Paris, even took place at the same time, and similar attacks on several other places, receive no media coverage at all in the west, while the Paris attacks dominate all western media.

That is not a coincidence. And it’s not either because most Americans would find it as easy to find Damascus or Beirut on a map as they would Paris. That is, they would not. But still Paris is on American TV about 48/7 (that’s the attention span limit), interrupted only by either a Kardashian body part -or two- or by the single The Donald’s body part that sticks in memory.

And that’s where we find our link to economics, because in geo-politics as in economics, we, all of us, think, talk and live exclusively in narratives. We have stories pre-fabricated for us, and these stories determine how we see the world, and our lives, and other people’s lives and dreams and wishes.

That is to say, whatever it is we want and dream of is per definition just and justified, and other people’s desires are not, as soon as they threaten to interfere with ours. As we read ad nauseam post-Paris in literally countless references to the ‘freedom’ that ‘we’ have and ‘they’ hate, and to ‘our way of life’ that is under threat -with nary a soul knowing what that way is.

We cannot forever fool ourselves and others into believing that we are the good guys and ‘the others’ are the bad guys. It’s tempting, and there’s a whole behemoth media apparatus to confirm it, but it doesn’t get us any closer to what happened, and why, and therefore no closer to paying our full and due respect to those who died in Paris on 11/13.

“They” don’t resent us for our freedom, “they” resent us for not allowing them to have their freedom, too. We need to recognize at some point that we owe our affluence to the misery of others, not to our superior intelligence or morals or religion or way of life. But there’s not a single voice among us which wants to make that recognition happen.

We are not a benevolent force, no matter what we tell ourselves or how many times we repeat it. We are a civilization of oppressors. Just like the Romans and the Mongols and so many others before and after. We seek to uphold our status and our wealth at the expense of others, of strangers, people who live conveniently far enough away in conveniently impoverished conditions.

We have been building our empire this way since well before Columbus, we’ve greatly expanded it over the past 500 years, and we’re now looking at the terminal phase of that empire. Just like the Romans and the Mongols and so many others before and after.

Interestingly enough, it’s our own technological prowess and ‘progress’ that leads us into that phase. The very moment we started exporting our oil drilling technologies, our smartphones, our databases and most of all our modern weaponry to what we still see as colonies, the very foundations of our civilization and our power started eroding.

But that’s getting too philosophical, and it would require too many words and lead us too far astray from Paris and the due diligence we owe those who lost their lives and those who mourn them.

Pope Francis said in a reaction to the Friday 13th attacks: “This is not human”. Unfortunately, 2000 years of Christianity say he’s dead wrong, wrong as he could be. This is very human. It’s as human as feeling an overbearing love for our children. It’s all human.

It’s very human, too, to go for the ‘us’ vs ‘them’ meme. Because it feels good, and you can be sure it makes those around you feel good too. Which is a big help in times of fear and insecurity and not having the answer, not having any other answers than the ubiquitous ones the media feed you.

But that still is not what the dead deserve. They deserve much more. They deserve that we try the best we can, not to settle for the first thing that comes to our reptilian minds. Not to make our entire lives come down to just fight or flight, but to attempt to find that area in between that is as close to truth finding as we know we can come.

To honor the dead, we need to look inside ourselves, and inside the societies we live in. And only when we’ve found, and eradicated, those things that make both us, and our communities, ‘guilty by association’ -for lack of a better term-, will we have paid proper respect to those who lost their lives.

"We are a civilization of oppressors."

The harsh reality.  We are ruled by a criminal syndicate and most go along swallowing the propaganda to hide the shame and enjoy the benefits until the tiger turns and bites.  Once one understands this reality, what is one to do?

Shrug, encourage others to shrug and then shrug some more. We are all victims of the elite, even those who receive their tender mercies. Do not give them the sanction of the victim.

To answer your question, ISIS is also Israeli Secret Intelligence Service -- is why.

But I prefer to call them by their real name, "Daesh". You know, as the French do (or did -- we'll see how small Hollande folds, and if he returns to elevating them to 'ISIS' again).

'Tis. But Boris did not ask what Israeli Secret Service is commonly called! Boris asked why our fearless teleprompter calls Daesh, ISIL! We usually refer to the Israeli Deep State reps as Mossad of course. If you google Israeli Secret Intel Service, it'll come up too.

Anyway, Boris must know that one secretive group can have more than one name! (One group, multiple fronts, such is the way of the Deep State.) And Boris thought my westernised degree counted for nothing! I spent years learning how to google at college, so don't you be telling me I wasted all that tuition money you Russian ingrate.

The difference between 9/11 and 3/11 in Madrid is 911 or 912 days.

In 1752, when England adopted the new style calendar the calendar was advanced by 11 days in September.

The former (Israeli) owners of the Paris theater supposedly sold it after 40 years on September 11 this year.

How come a lot of these "refugees" happen to be "young men, in their early 20's and 30's"? The very "group" that is LEAST likely to need any kind of help?

When I think of the term "refugee", I think of old women, kids, single mothers, and the handicapped.

Why is it, that "terrorist attacks" never seem to target "individuals of high importance"? Surely, a group of well-armed men, could eliminate a 'high-value' target, instead of shooting-up a bunch of "everyday Joe's".

Surely a well-informed group of crazies understands the importance of 'popular support'.

You ignore the historical precedents. When times are hard and people are displaced it is often the young men who go out on the road to seek greener pastures. Women, children and the elderly are vulnerable on the road and wait at home until the young men can make a new life and send for them.

Do these people look like terrorists to you?

Your first question has a reasonable answer. Namely that the handicapped, elderly, children, and young women may be less willing and less able to undertake and complete such a journey.

Your second question as to targeting doesn't seem to have a good answer and logically raises other questions

about the motives and the perpetrators.

Young men travel well, they are fearless and tough.

Mothers, small children, the old do not travel as a rule. We keep our young women close, the world is no place for them. Men older than 30 usually have families and cannot travel without abandoning them to some degree, which they will not do ESPECIALLY during conflict.

So the fathers send their sons.

It must be horrendous. Simply awful. We send our sons into God only knows what kind of world -- to drown, to be ripped off, to be randomly jailed, to face hostile natives who don't speak our language, to face something unknown and potentially terrible.

I wouldn't send my son alone. We would go as a family and live or die in that way. As we are seeing in these "refugees" (our word for them) trying to leave something terrible but stay together.

The Paris thing will be their undoing. They will now die by the thousands -- sons and fathers and their women and children -- left in fields to freeze. It is so tragic I cannot even face it.

Our species is lost. We are all refugees now, running from the light.

My theory on this is that the US/NATO is trying to get a coalition and get boots on the ground for an invasion of Syria. This will allow them to "deal with ISIS". Oh....... and while they are there, they can get rid of the Assad regime once and for all.

All they need is an excuse or actual reason to send troops. Killing a few hundred in Paris with ISIS "claiming responsiblity" sounds like just the excuse. If it still doesn't end up being enough to get the people to back this, more events like that in Paris may be coming..

It doesn't matter in the least unless you want to know who is attacking you so that you can make the best possible effort to stop them from attacking you. For example, Washington defeated Hessian troops in Trenton but he did not then decide to ignore Great Britain and invade Hesse in Germany. That would have been stupid.

It does matter very much, b/c "who is behind it" goes to the very heart of normalcy bias, aka "trust your government".

But your point is well taken, so upvoted. "We" as a collective may be without powers, but each person must take their own INDIVIDUAL POWER to RESIST, and stop believing and supporting these corrupt, unaccountable, fiat-dependent, bankrupt, bank-controlled 'governments'. As each of us takes our individual power back and uses it, the power of government shrinks. As your link says, "Are you prepared to join the resistance?"

"Golden Rule" a nice way to put it.  This is a rather tortured piece of writing; the author blames Christianity and Western Civilization - the old Progressive saw of lashing oneself on the back Arthur Dimmesdale style, feeling guilty yet angry at the suffering of it - and somewhere in the middle of it all admits that it is what humanity does.  That was the most salient point, unfortunately.

Yes, the U.S. and Britain and France and all the rest should have stayed out of the Middle East and just paid market price for the oil.  Unfortunately for the Middle East oil is the fuel of armies and modern agriculture.  Founding Israel was a mistake, as was the Afghan wars, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and all the Imperialist meddling.  It is what humanity does, unfortunately.

Mon, 11/16/2015 - 12:47 | 6800098 Billy the Poet

What is the historical relationship between Puritanism and progressivism? Dimsdale lashed himself because of his own sin while progressives insist that others lash themselves just for being alive and happy.

The West has created discord in the Middle East by attacking innocent people and supporting dictatorships and radial terrorists. Someone ought to get lashed good and hard. The "that's what humans do" canard is a bad excuse for not attempting to improve one's situation.

The unending capacity of humans to rationalize hubris and greed is astounding.

Empires have been built and peoples conquered with every self-serving imagined excuse possible such as  spreading civilization, maintaining a business climate, bringing the 'true' religion or 'democracy', etc.

Are people insane? Are people really so stupid?
How can anyone  believe the absurd rubbish that the US is trying to stop "terror" ?
How can you ignore the convenient exception given its own terror from drones to torture to surveillance?
The US supports wahabbist sheikhs, drug cartels, expansionist apartheid, 'moderate' jihadists, military dictatorships, and wannabe nazis

NOT because of some benevolent interest in  stopping "extremism" and disorder.

The wars and invasions are about maintaining the petrodollar financial racket; about full spectrum dominance to prevent the rise of  any potential adversary; about warfare profits, pipelines, and oil; about controlling resources or else denying use to others; about the hubris of  empire and expansion.

Keep bemoaning it is the wrong tactics to fight 'terror'.
Keep saying you shouldn't bomb hospitals and destroy infrastructure else you create blowback.
Keep accepting the answer that they'll try to avoid 'excessive' collateral damage next time.
Keep believing the big lie and debating how to best accomplish the delusion.

Are people insane? Are people really so stupid?

After many years of listening to people of the political and religious persuasion, I have found that the biggest mindfvk is the people in which you speak are hell bent on being on the "winning side."

The HUGE glaring truth of the Dems and Reps being one and the same means nothing to these people as long as their team wins.

FUBAR to the max. Human stupidity on parade.  World destroyed for ego and digits in the data banks.

"We need to recognize at some point that we owe our affluence to the misery of others..."

And how is that? Really...the entirety of Western economic success is built on putting "others" in slavery or penury? A billion Chinese are better off economically because they've adopted (at least some) of our methods.

China should have kept the people in the farms. Temporary wealth at the cost of habitat destruction is NOT being better off. You are a fool if you believe the western ways of doing things is the answer to poverty.

So this lead up to an actual informative article is pretty good for Raul but,  what happened to any actual information about what happened and why.  This blame yourself for everything crap is only good to start someone thinking but there is no follow through.  Without any real information this type of lead in is just touchy feely crap.  Guess what Raul,  I did not do the killing in Paris.  My ancestors did not do the killing in Paris.  Blame yourself if you want but your approach is even worse than a shotgun being used for surgery.  It accomplishes nothing good but only causes more injury to those who were not involved.  My government does deserve some blame but they have not been doing what the american people want for decades now.  Blame everyone if you want but that only makes you one of the bad guys not me.

Kabbalists and Hermeticists have an obsession with numbers and geometrical shapes (may originate from Pythagoreanism or borrowed from), they believe they hold power and meaning.  Of course Hermeticist's beliefs clearly borrow from Jewish Mysticism and old "mystery schools" as well.  I am sure they are not the only ones who are weird about numbers but they may be the only symbolically obsessed people who have the ability to force it on everyone else.

Or maybe it is just langley coming up with dates that stick in peoples minds.

What's the deal with Jihadists and prime numbers???

Mon, 11/16/2015 - 12:58 | 6800190 permarig
permarig's picture

Speaking of prime numbers.

There was the disappeared Malaysian Airlines MH370.
Then Malaysian Airlines MH17 crash in Ukraine.

The 370th prime number is 2531. The 17th prime number is 59. 2531 + 59 + 370 + 17 = 2977. That's also the number of victims on 9/11.

HW gave that NWO speech on 9/11/1990.
Ukraine declared independence on 8/24/1991.

The difference is 347 days. 347 is the 69th prime number.

MH17 crashed on July 17. The plane first flew exactly 17 years before (on July 17, 1997). It used flight level 330 before the crash. 330 + 17 = 347.

If this BS has merit, then obviously the same groups are behind these events.

Mon, 11/16/2015 - 13:26 | 6800347 permarig
permarig's picture

Another one, bit more contrived maybe. MH17 was the 84th Boeing 777 produced. MH370 was the 404th. Numbers backwards are 404 and 48. 404 - 48 = 356.
Flight numbers on 9/11: 11 + 77 + 93 + 175 = 356.

It might be worth noting though they want to use these  events to provoke bigger military conflicts. MH17 in Ukraine also had that potential. (But obviously it reeked otherwise too, not just for this numbers stuff.) Now it's Syria again with this Paris thing. (After the 2013 chemical attack false flag, after which France was also at the forefront wanting bomb Syria.)

We have anti-armor weapons (TOWs) in theater.  And there may be anti-ac weapons in theater.

That leaves fomenting unrest in Chechnya and Dagestan.  Looks like the playbook is being followed

one stage at a time.

Destroy it early, or destroy it late, but destroy it.

Horror grows and takes on a life of its own.

There are atrocities in all wars, once peaceful Yugoslavia descended into unimaginable horror as acts of violence were responded to with further acts of violence with ever increasing intensity.

We see the smart bombs on the news descending to their targets, we don’t see the people at the other end getting ripped apart by red hot shrapnel and the people near them that see their friends and colleagues suffer in excruciating agony. The desire for revenge is a human instinct and a very powerful one.

Horror grows and when you are dealing with people that don’t really care about dying, the escalation of horror with retaliation is not a good a solution. The bombing raids brutalise the recipients even further leaving them ready to commit even worse atrocities

The US fought a guerrilla war in Vietnam and came home with its tail between its legs.

When ISIS’s new state has gone the fighters will still be around, as Al Qaeda existed without a nation state.

The Middle East has artificial nation states imposed on them from the outside; we removed the dictators that held them together. Tito held Yugoslavia together and when he died it fell apart, centuries old ethnic divisions came to the fore.

The solution in Yugoslavia was to put the like minded people together in new nation states and allow them to move away from war and death to a better life, some people cannot live together without very strong leaders to hold artificial nations together.

Bombing brutalises and horror grows.

When people are offered sensible solutions that recognise their differences and offer a better life in peace and prosperity, the killing stops.

Those differences and their history are not going to be forgotten in a long, long time.

The countries of former Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland are still powder kegs that could re-ignite at any time and this must be avoided at all costs.

With the waves of mass migration in recent years the fighting, killing and animosity are no longer even contained within geographic regions and problems abroad become problems at home.

A fool said “It was the end of history” when the Berlin Wall fell as the only division he recognised was between Capitalism and Communism.

There are many divisions that will take centuries to heal. It will require peace between the various factions during that period for that process to complete.

We know how to stop it and just need the will to do it.

“what is one to do?”

So queried “Ignatius”.

We need to consult a document that everyone else seems to ignore: the Declaration of Independence.  Specifically, ‘when governments become destructive of our rights, we have the right – nay, the power / duty – to alter or abolish it and set new guards for our liberties’, approximately.

It is not enough to lament or complain of such grievances: someone must provide redress; and such redress should be historically-proven.

So, now, the question is, ‘How do we turn the world right side up, and make criminal and useless classes accountable for what they have done?’

How about we stop bombing Syria, and support Assad rebuilding his country. The guy was welcomed in Europe, studied dentistry in London, was western; until we decided to overthrow him and turned him into a bad guy and helped destroy his cities where all these refugees are coming from!

It's not like Saddam Hussein and Moamar Quddaffi's overthrows were good for their countries, why are we overthrowing Assad? There wouldn't be a refugee crisis, if we just stopped attacking Syria.
