Caught On Tape: First Footage Of Russian Strategic Bombers In Action Over Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

On Tuesday we noted that Russia has, for the first time, used strategic, long-range bombers, in Syria.

These are the kind of aircraft that can deliver not only cruise missiles but tactical nuclear weapons. The Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu confirmed as much when he said that Tupolev Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers are now being used in the strikes against ISIL targets.

Tu-160 Blackjack

As you're probably aware, Russia had previously limited the strikes to Su-34s, Su-25s and Su-24Ms. But apparently, once Moscow got confirmation that the Russian passenger jet which went down over the Sinai Peninsula earlier this month was indeed destroyed by a bomb, The Kremlin decided to show ISIS what "bombs" really look like.

According to Shoigu, the involvement of the bombers will allow Russia to double the number of airstrikes it can conduct in Syria and on Wednesday, we get the first footage from the Russian Defense Ministry depicting the planes in action (and as we've all seen, the Russians love to show their equipment in action). Enjoy:

US is pissed that Russia started killing off its ISIS, having themselves (USA) bombed desert for 18 months, and instead armed and trained ISIS with their allies Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Yeh - US causing blow back into Europe through terror and refgees.  Want to stop the terror and refugees? Then stop trying to fight a proxy war against Syria Assad and instead work with Syria and others to get the USA created ISIS.

If the US triumverate didn't decide they wanted to replace Assad with one of their own and thus turned the Middle East into a dogs breakfast, there would be no refugees, no hundreds of thousands killed.  This is US geopolitics played out as usual, and as usual ending in total mess and failure.

And the irony is that part of the US rationale for replacing Assad with a US chosen puppet in Syria was to remove Russian naval and other presence in Syria. Instead it has lead to a vast increase in Russian Syrian presence, the exact opposite result, having given Russia valid reasons to be there in increased fire-power and concentration.

"Instead it has lead to a vast increase in Russian Syrian presence,..."

Well... what do you expect with a pacifist liberal goomba sitting on his ass in the WH trying to run things he knows nothing about!

Seeing these bombers in action is like Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising x the Spanish Civil War.

The  stupidity of the US Oligarchs/Defense Military Industrial Complex/TPTB is that instead of creating war in Ukraine, instead of trying to create another Cold War, create conflict with Russia, and to control China -- IT could have instead worked with them and grown the economic power through developing that relationship.

But no, unquestion global hegemony was the only thing they wanted to persue. So now they have lead themselves down the path of failed state, which will take some time, but is inevitable.  And it is undoubted that Russia and China, even with many set backs, are set to come to the fore, and undoubtedly the relationship between them and Europe will replace that of the USA.

I remember reading somewhere that Democratic Republics seldom last more that 200 years... well... we beat that by a smidge... so I guess we're doing good as such things go.

The ape does what the ape does. Total waste of valuable resources.

In this age of digital money it is too difficult to cut off funding for these idiots?

Come of it.

This is the exact same play that the neo cons used on Libya and then transferred to Syria but without an excuse to bomb the living hell out of the country when the gas attack against civilians was proved to be a false flag op (thank you Seymor Hersh) The Syrians also have a good friend in Russia who have finally inserted themselves to hopefully end this hellish nightmare for the Syrian people and return the headchoppers from whence they came. The empire is finished but the end hasn't arrived yet.

Tupolev Tu-95 Bear - A bunch of US sailors mooned one of these from our carrier flight deck in the Med in 1971. We pulled a fast one and ditched the Russian "trawler" that had been following us around, and it took them 3 weeks to find us. When they did, they overflew us... with a couple of armed F4J Phantom IIs on their ass with a couple of A2A missiles on their wings.

I bet the Russian crew was taking pictures of the carrier... and all the American bare butts. It's kind of a tradition for both sides to moon the "enemy" under such circumstances. Good fun for al1 ;-D
