"It Looks Like A Warzone" - Army, APCs, Roadblocks Deployed In Brussels After Explosives, Chemical Weapons Found
In the aftermath of last night's warning of an "imminent" terror threat in Brussels when OCAM Crisis Center and the government raised the country's terror alert to the highest level, today the escalation continues and the Belgian capital looks like not only a ghost town but something out of a Call of Duty warzone after authorities deployed special forces, and APCs, shut the metro, locked down shopping centers, closed sporting events, and warned the public to avoid crowds, train stations, airports and commercial districts because of a "serious and imminent" threat of an attack.
As Reuters reports, a week after the Paris attacks carried out by Islamic State militants, of whom one suspect from Brussels is at large and said by authorities to be highly dangerous, Brussels was placed on the top level "four" in the government's threat scale after a meeting of top ministers, police and security services.
"The advice for the population is to avoid places where a lot of people come together like shopping centers, concerts, events or public transport stations wherever possible," a spokesman for the government's crisis center said.
As AFP reported earlier, the spike in the terror threat is due to a risk of attacks by "weapons and explosives"

Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel declined to give the reason why the authorities raised the alert level but told a news conference the government would review the security situation on Sunday afternoon and that the decision to raise the threat level was taken “based on quite precise information about the risk of an attack like the one that happened in Paris where several individuals with arms and explosives launch actions, perhaps even in several places at the same time." The metro system would remain closed until then, in line with the recommendation of the crisis center, he said.
The reason for the dramatic escalation is that chemicals and explosives were among the items found in the during a police raid on Vandepeerboom Street area in the immigrant neighborhood of Molenbeek, a rundown area where Paris attacker Abdelhamid Abaaoud was suspected of operating a terrorist cell.

A search was conducted on Friday at the home of a suspect placed under arrest, federal prosecutors said on Saturday. Some weapons have been discovered, but no explosives or explosive belt.
The suspect was arrested Thursday in the series of searches carried out in Brussels. The person concerned is suspected of involvement in terrorist attacks and participation in activities of a terrorist group.
The find came as Belgium’s capital entered a security lockdown. The government has warned that there could be a repeat of Paris-style attacks in the country’s capital, prompting the closure of subways in Brussels and the deployment of heavily armed police and soldiers.
Fears that terrorists may use chemical or biological weapons quickly spread to Paris where according to the Guardian, security has been stepped up at key water supply sites in Paris, after the French prime minister warned the country could not rule out attacks from “chemical or biological weapons”.
The heightened security comes as reports claim that biohazard suits have been stolen from a Paris hospital, the Telegraph reports. Eau de Paris, the municipal water company, yesterday told Le Parisien that access to its sites has been limited to only the necessary service personnel, and that they have been accredited by the defence ministry.
Furthermore, we learned today that one more suspect from last Friday's terror attack has been arrested in Brussels which has quickly emerged as the nerve center of last week's Paris attacks.

As Reuters further adds, the crisis center website said it was calling on local authorities to cancel large events, urge people to avoid crowds, postpone soccer matches, close the Brussels metro for the weekend and stepping up the military and police presence. Suspected militant Salah Abdeslam, 26, returned home to Brussels from Paris after the attacks, when his elder brother Brahim blew himself up at a cafe.
Fears of the risk he still poses prompted the cancellation last week of an international friendly soccer match in Brussels against Spain. The crisis center said weekend games in the top two professional divisions should now be postponed.
The alert level for the whole country was raised following the Paris attacks to level three out of four, implying a "possible or probable" threat. Previously, only certain sites, such as the U.S. embassy, were at level three.
Belgium, and its capital in particular, have been at the center of investigations into the Paris attacks - which included suicide bombers targeting a France-Germany soccer match - after the links to Brussels emerged. Three people detained in Brussels are facing terrorism charges.
As a reminder, French authorities have said the attacks were planned in Brussels by a local man, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, 28, who fought for Islamic State in Syria and was killed in the siege of an apartment in the Paris suburb of St. Denis on Wednesday.
Salah Abdeslam, who was from the same Brussels neighborhood of Molenbeek and is said by officials to have known Abaaoud in prison, was pulled over three times by French police but not arrested as he was driven back to Brussels early last Saturday by two of the men now in custody.
As well as Abdeslam's brother, a second man from Molenbeek, Bilal Hadfi, was also among the Paris suicide bombers.
Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon told reporters he wanted a register of everyone living in Molenbeek because it was not clear at present who was there, with authorities conducting door-to-door checks of every house. "The local administration should knock on every door and ask who really lives there," Jambon said. Curiously when Donald Trump suggests doing something comparable in the US, immediate comparisons with Hitler emerge.
Meanwhile, as the photos below show, soldiers are already on guard in all key parts of Brussels, including at the institutions of the European Union headquartered in the city. Brussels is also home to the headquarters of NATO.

Switzerland may be targeted if an international organization is (as when the UN in Geneva was attacked by Kurds a decade or two ago) or if it's becoming too weird/inconvenient that the country thus stands out.

It's simply entirely implausible to pretend that anyone really thinks that if they blow up a bunch of anonymous bystanders, or knock over the Twin Towers and Building 7, that their ends will somehow be furthered by this sort of proactive approach. That's only an infantile rationale, under which, populations are expected to subconsciously recoil without much thought about the impossible reality behind the necessary assumptions.
It works far better the other way round, to blow something up, and make it look like it was your enemies who did the dastardly deed, and to thus promote your ends proactively.
Even in the instance when you read that some nutcase did such-and-such, (like a suicide bomber on a bus), killing dozens, or bringing down an aircraft, it's still far easier to find such a disaffected nutcase and provide him/her with the means to act out to further your own proactive desires, than it ever is to believe that the nutcase on his/her own was able to do such a stupid thing, with the idea that it would be an act that would further their interests. People that stupid just are not that capable.
The Israelis and the FBI have both been repeatedly caught doing exactly this, providing the obvious dupe with the means to carry out a terrorist act . It's the modus operendi of terrorists employed by our own governments all over the world.

How many of our floride guzzling countrymen knew the difference between a Saudi, an Iranian and an Iraqi at that time? I don't think they are too worried about it. As Americans learn geography and the differences between ME cultures and what have you maybe they will pick up the pace but that probably isn't necessary.
What I am asking is if US/CIA/israel/mossad were really behind 9/11 in order to attack/destabilise their enemies why would they implicate their friends rather than their enemies, and attack some other country rather than the two countries they would profit attacking the most. I think you're asking an excellent question. I can come up with a few ideas as to why it was not Iranian or Iraqi passports planted in the rubble:
Assuming Israel/CIA/Saudi with Anglo-American Banker friends were responsible for 9/11, then they were setting up the pieces for a WW3, but they were not yet ready to engage on that scale imho. More looting was needed first as well as greater control with oil reserves.
1) They wanted to get get into Afghanistan and Iraq for a reason. One reason could be the need to grow poppies to fund the black-ops side of the venture. Of course they already had vast funds to carry out projects, but presumably those were funds that could be tracked back to them and bring them in trouble in case of disclosure, so revenue obtained from seemingly separate activities as drug production and trafficing could be the solution. If they had gone straight for an attack on Iran, they would probably not have had the possibility to grow poppies. Also - look at a map and see how both Afghanistan and Iraq served as boxing Iran in and making land access between Iran and Syria (via Northern Iraq) and land access between Iran and China (via Afghanistan) more difficult/impossible. I don't know the terrain towards China - maybe it is useless for more significant transport - but a direct route for certain people might still be worth hampering.
2) If passports had been planted with a pointed finger towards Iran, who were not a perpetrator in the context of your question, it is likely that Iran would have done anything in its power to reveal everything they knew about the operation to prove the accusation wrong. In short pointing fingers at a true adversary as opposed to a pretend-adversary could end up being counterproductive propaganda-wise and it could eventually also mean WW3 before the masterplan called for it.
3) So why not Iraqi passports? I would guess a bit the same reason as with Iran. Saddam Hussein had been an ally of the US for many years, but had begun breaking ranks/going rogue, so a direct accusation could have resulted in unintended consequences for the narrative/propaganda. As we saw later, they came up with a different narrative (WMD's) to attack Saddam Hussein after the generalized "War on terror" had been established in the public mind using 9/11, but 9/11 was not used directly, if I recall correctly, to justify the entry into Iraq. The WMD's were later proven to be lies - even admitted by the man, who convinced many allies to join due to his personal credibility - Colin Powell.
4) So why would Saudi accept this smear, if they were part of the 9/11 plot, thereby calling attention to themselves? I can think of a few somewhat contradictory reasons. No. 1 - they don't care as long as the overall plan succeeds. They are already highly criticized because of other features of their society, so one more criticism doesn't matter as long as their cohorts keep protecting them. No. 2 - they are underdogs in the cooperation and do not get to decide. No. 3 - The Saudis were double crossed and the Saudi passports were a hedge in case 9/11 failed and/or a means to ensure that the Saudis would not suddenly get funny ideas later like starting selling oil in different currencies or something similar. It appears to me that the power of Al-Saud is just as dependent on the petro-dollar as the US is, so this could have been a "mutually assured destruction" measure. "If I go down - so will you". The real relationship seemed clear enough in the following days, when the US allowed the Bin Laden family to leave the US without questioning etc.
5) And why would Saudi possibly accept this smear, if they were not a direct part of the 9/11 plot. Blackmail is my suggestion. They would lose the petro-dollar power, if the US neocons/CIA/Israel were exposed. However, the article posted here on ZH yesterday or the day before, describing prominent Saudi's having (to my surprise) publicly voiced their unconditional support for Israel suggests a deeper tie. I have long suspected that Al-Sauds and Israeli Zionists somehow come from the same historical factions way back in time, but until I read that article, I had not seen any public statements to support that thought.
