don't mix skittles and M&Ms !!!!

...  you get S&Ms, which aren't for everybody, for sure.

(edit - - the answer by the way is "None.  Feed them to the neighbor's dog that barks all day long, then go buy another bag for yourself at the 80% off halloween candy sale.")

If the logic of this metaphor were true then why is it that:

People engage in dangerous sex when there is perhaps 10 in 10000 chances they might get AIDS?

People inject heroin when there is perhaps 10 in 10000 chances that they will die of an overdose?

So what are the chances that the leaders of the US will do something equally stupid?   10000 in 10000?

I think the math is wrong in the original post.

More like this:  There are 10,000 M&Ms.  10 can commit an unhealthy act.  The unhealthy act can kill say 300 of the 300,000,000 U.S. peoples.  Give or take.

Therefore, eating each M&M yields a one in one thousand chance of a one in a million risk. Call it, oh, one in a billion.

I guess eating a normal amount would be what, 10? Roughly one in a hundred million risk.

More risk of choking on a fucking pretzel.

Thanks for doing ZH math with us tonight.  Now piss off.

You have 10,000 handguns for sale at Walmart.

One will be used by a 5-year-old to accidentally shoot his 3-year-old-brother.

One will be used by an abusive husband to murder his wife.

Seven will be used by gang members to conduct drive-bys.

How many gun do you sell?

Ooooooooh the progressive state worshiper is strong with this one.

People will defend their right to live with them, like shooting Obirdbrains illegal alien invaders attempting crimes. Several of those guns will be used by women at home alone to stop home invasion by illegal aliens. Two will stop rapes by illegal aliens. Two will stop murders by illegal aliens. One will be used to stop a robbery by illegal aliens. Two will stop assaults by illegal aliens. Two will be used to stop a couple of Obirdbrains 100 percent vetted Syrian Muslim terrorists killing spree in a progressive stupid "gun free slaughter me please zone".

Hopefully some of those guns will be used to execute progressive criminal traitors in the FEDGOV and banking industry after they have been duly prosecuted.

There is no upside to bringing in Syrians refugees. Zero, nada.

Don't forget, the progressive stupid, it burns.

I own lots of guns, including handguns and black rifles.

You're pretty mad at the illegal immagrants.  I'm assuming you probably don't like fruits and vegetables.

Also, the vast majority of those Syrian refugees will go on to pay taxes, some of their kids will go to med school (while your kids and mine are home playing video games in the basement).  Just like the vietnamese refugees back in tha 80's.

You seem to state that unless a charitable act can be done without risk, than it ought not be done at all.  Are you a Christian? I hope a kid never falls in a river when you are the only one around, cause your pansy ass will be sitting on the bank trying to figure out a way not to get wet.

You're asking way too much from people with that point of view. They are consumed by fear. Are there risks to bringing in refugees from Syria or other places in the world where US government policy has made life worse for the people living there?

Of course. There are risks associated with every decision (even the decision get out of bed in the morning) but there are potential benefits as well. We are much more likely to be infiltrated by people looking to attack us via our broken border security than we are from refuges, even if we can't screen them perfectly.

I never thought I'd see so many Americans acting like such cowards. The additional risk of bringing in 10,000 or a hundred thousand refugees are so small compared to the potential benefits of having those refuges feel welcomed here and having good things to say about the people of the United States (vs. our shitty government) to their friends and relatives in other parts of the world. Small threat, big opportunity.

Everyone has to die of something, eventually. And a very small number of those deaths are going to happen at the hands of terrorists. Far more people die in this country every year (including the year 2001) from automobile accidents, easy access to guns, cigarette smoking, and fast food, but you don't hear these cowards complaining about those things.

Acceptance of risk is one of the prices you pay for living in a free and open society. Ours isn't as open and free as it used to be, because people are easily frightened.

The M&M anaolgy presented here is slanted and flawed, because it only considers the risk from one source, and it fails to consider the benefits. A more accurate anaology would be a bowl containing hundreds of millions of M&M's, to which you are adding 10,000. Some percentage of those may be 'poison,' but there are already hundreds of thousands of 'poison' M&M's in the bowl (car accidents, shooting deaths, smoking-related illnesses, slipping in the bathroom, etc.). But since these "M&M's" are your only source of nutrition, does the addition of a few more poison ones into a 'bowl,' diluted by the larger number of safe ones frighten you so much that you'll stop eating? If your answer is yes, then in my opinion, you either don't understand risk vs. benefit very well, or you're a coward.

I have a Beretta 96 and 2 magazines loaded with hollow points in a biometric safe next to my bed.  I can go from being in a full sleep to being lock and loaded in about 5 seconds, under the right conditions, which are highly unlikely to involve a Syrian refugee.

Even if I didn't have the 40 cal, I would worry about a whole lot of other things before obsessing about Syrian refugees.   Being this scared all the time of something that, statistically speaking, is not all that risky, is pretty strange.  It's a bit like being a pussy.

You should have your carebear panties in a bunch over the US/west causing this catastrophe in the first place.  But no, to you it all boils down to a 1:100,000,000 chance.  Oh wait, if 300 hundred, give or take, are affected then your math must be flawed.  300:300,00,000 = 1:1,000,000 so you are off by x100.

Of course your "math" only works if you take the selfish perspective of the chances of it happening to YOU.  The rest of us care about what happens to our friends and neighbors too.  Thus, 10:10,000 is appropriate, if you really want to be caring as you would suggest in letting them in.  That is to say, if you really care about people you would not let them into the country.

Good day to you.

Syrian refugee situation explained:

Here's a bowl that contains 10,000 M&Ms

Only 10 contain nutjobs awaiting orders from their CIA handler.

How many innocent, decent human lives will you wreck for the 10 nutjobs aligned with evil?

None of the Paris terrorists were Syrian

Look. These people are refugees - the same as the Vietamese -> Jewish -> Italian -> English refugees that preceded them in the last couple of hundred years who fled tyranny and turmoil. One must be careful with those who mingle in their midst, but 99.9999% are innocent Muslims, Atheists, and Christians who fled the fucking hell hole OUR governments created for profit. NOT Assad, OUR governments. Call me a bleeding heart moronic cunt, but I don't have the heart to drown kids in the Med or kick a man in the face when he is down. Obama, Hillary! & the CIA ran weapons into Syria through Turkey, not me. They also took out Qaddafi with the help of Salafists by supplying it (Sharia Law nutcases) with an "air force". And if I recall correctly, it was an idiot Greek captain who had a hand in drowning the boy, not me.

Your premise derives from a nationalistic standpoint, not an individual one.

+1 It does seem like it, doesn't it? I've always gotten your point and rather appreciate the robust self sufficient individualist philosophy, but whether I like it or not, I live in a country, a nation, a city, a society, a neighbourhood that requires my conscience to speak out against it when this stupid collective does stuff in my name. And then as an individual take responsibility for all its ills. I'd rather think as you do, to be honest. :)

YHC, u can't take responsibility for all of its ills, that is, unless you individually a) permitted the ills to occur and b) by action/inaction permit them to continue.

Just because "my government" fucks up nearly everything it touches by no means renders some obscure collectivist obligation on my part to clean it up.

For the most part I agree, but the whole migration thing is cover for gov operations to achieve whatever  their crazy goals are. , I understand what you are saying.   The problem is we cant save all the stray puppies in the world. We simply cant.. And to take all the "good" people out of an area, leaves only the bad, which is not good.  They need to stay and fight for good, just like we will have to, its just their time is now and ours is coming.  Our governments are too "shady" at the moment to allow mass open migration... its ridiculous to even think we could trust them... This is one of their operations and dont doubt it.  Those few bad M&Ms will end up fucking us all.  They are pawns right now.

As I see it, it's akin to the evacuation of kids from the cities in England during WWII. Most will go back to their families, homes & businesses when it is stable. Refugees are a different kettle of fish from economic migrants. I can't disagree with your last sentence - just a single thief/rapist in a community can cause havoc for the rest, let alone an extremist - hence being careful but my own personal ethos prevents me from condemning the oppressed in general.

There is a concerted effort to cause a refugee crisis in the EU, although I don't know who exactly is behind it. I am sure somebody already posted their theories on it already at ZH.

Then ask yourself what you can do to remove our leadership. Thats when youll see an end to children being killed or displaced.  Your trying to prevent the problem after the real problem already took place... its a little too late for this issue, try to prevent them from doing the next one!  You act like you dont know how this could have happened? But you have the heart to put your neighbors and their kids at risk to satisfy your own sanctimony.

If you really believe mahommedans only began killing other people once the CIA was established, you have about 1400 years of history to catch up on.

And incidentally, that drowned kid whose photo got you upset was there because his father had organised a people smuggling arrangement to get from safe Turkey into Europe.  They weren' leaving Turkey as refugees, they and the others on the boat were after a lifetime of handouts that stupid politicians in Europe had made available.

I don't think your argument is sound. 1400 years of warfare applies even better to all of us Christians bickering in Europe and the Americas. Before getting even more hysterical, I would suggest you pop over to a site like http://www.reason.com to have a look at the reality of the situation. The actual risk of terrorism is negligible. If you are an American, you are much more likely to be shot by a toddler than a muslim terrorist. I am not calling you a coward but distorted perception from reality is why the human sheep is so easily manipulated with fear.

I agree in the sense that human animals should be able to wander anywhere in the universe they wish... just like birds, snakes, lizards, fish, etc.

However, I also don't think humans should be forced to move elsewhere by bombing their homes and infrastructure required for modern life.

I always have a strong bias towards identifying and addressing the core, fundamental cause or causes of problems rather than eternally trying to deal with consequences [which never end because the cause remains unaddressed].

If I was any of these fictitious leaders of fictitious nation in Europe, I would cut a deal with the fictitious leaders of Turkey, Syria and/or nearby places) to create temporary "safe towns" in rural areas (next to rivers or other large water sources).  Bring in a huge number of big tents, cots, blankets, food, supplies and western military to keep them safe from attack.

So... while humans should be allowed to travel anywhere they wish, I find it massively stupid to mass migrate them to places they never really wanted to go in the first place.

I've researched this a little more and it is clear that despite Assad's best efforts with his very limited resources, the displaced people in Syria driven into refugee centres by these Daesh-bags, are being coerced, cajoled and enticed into leaving Syria by the traffickers. Some have wealth and they have been loathe to spend 2 years in the filth. Syrians are not your average sand-dwelling Arab.

The refugees should absolutely be cared for in their own country. What they are doing right now is incredibly stupid but nobody ever said the humans en masse exhibit smart behaviour. So here's the rub. Do I treat them as a faceless, dangerous collective, or do I try to treat them as individuals who need all the compassion I can muster? I choose the latter.

Mon, 11/23/2015 - 00:30 | 6826432 honestann

The following is a video that implies we can help 10 to 15 times more refugees by relocating them to safe places much nearer their homes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3VN3k8F_Ns

The analysis isn't perfect, but is mostly reasonable.

PS:  Whether refugee or anyone else, the stupidest thing anyone can do is to be nasty to another human who has done nothing to harm you.  For those that object to being forced to fund wasteful and grossly inefficient projects to import and support refugees, I can understand that, but I put the blame on the predators-that-be who cause the problem by bombing these poor folks, by creating and funding terrorists, by importing them, and by handing them freebees.  I'd be less annoyed if they helped them move somewhere close to home for 7% the price... but per my usual desire to get to fundamentals, the USSA and allies should not be creating and funding terrorism, and bombing people and their infrastructure all over the world.

even if they were in fact refugees, still it makes 1 out of more than 4.500.000 that fled Syria, and approx. 800.000 that made it throught Europe.

Only 10 is an overly optimistic number. If there would be only 1 promille among them that are terrorists, many others of them will put a burden on European societies in terms of social benefits and crimes. And remember, many of these M&Ms are not even Syrian M&Ms. Also, they will bring their relative M&Ms that stayed behind over and next year (and years after that) new M&Ms will arrive. The autochtonous M&Ms are being replaced.

The problem is, the predators-that-be never eat any of the M&Ms, but force their citizens AKA slaves to eat them.

So the proper question is this.  If you were one of the predators-that-be who don't give a rats butt about regular folks, how many M&Ms would you have them eat?  The answer is always the same: ALL OF THEM.

The assumption that predators-that-be (politicians and central-banksters) don't want regular folks killed is ABSURD and FALSE.

The more disaster that happen, and the more grandiose they are, the more money and power flow to the predators-that-be.
