In New Video, A Grateful Al-Qaeda Thanks US For Supplying Anti-Tank Missiles

Tyler Durden's picture

On September 30, just hours after a three star Russian general strolled into the US embassy in Baghdad and told the staff to inform Washington that Moscow would begin airstrikes in Syria “in one hour”, the Western media was alive with accusations that The Kremlin wasn’t targeting ISIS, but rather other, US and Saudi-backed rebel groups fighting Assad’s depleted SAA. Here’s what WSJ said at the time

“Among seven areas that Syrian state media listed as targets of Russian strikes, only one—an area east of the town of Salamiyah in Hama province—has a known presence of Islamic State fighters. The other areas listed are largely dominated by moderate rebel factions or Islamist groups, such as Ahrar al-Sham and the al Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front.”

Yes, “moderate rebel factions such as the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front.”

Put simply, the US had become so desperate to preserve whatever was left of the strategy to overthrow Assad, that Washington had the mainstream media floating trial balloons to see if the public would accept the characterization of al-Qaeda as “moderate.”

Generally speaking, most Americans didn’t notice, presumably because they were too busy ogling at Russian fighter jets and/or Islamic State’s latest Hollywood special (which at the time was a clip of an SAA fighter being run over by a tank), but for anyone who did pick up on the fact that the mainstream US media had just officially (and posthumously) labeled Osama Bin Laden a “moderate”, the farce was complete.

To anyone who frequents these pages - and to anyone who has endeavored to question the official narrative - the fact that the US now counts al-Nusra as a de facto ally came as no surprise. The Saudis and Qatar have backed al-Nusra virtually from the beginning, and the US is all for anything that destabilizes Assad, even if it means funneling guns and money to the very same group that flew passenger jets into skyscrapers on American soil. And let’s not forget that this wouldn’t be the first time Washington has backed al-Qaeda. The US has had lots of practice in getting arms to the Mujahideen - see the Soviet-Afghan war, for example.

None of this is a secret, which is what makes it so astonishing that the Western public is largely clueless despite the efforts of people like Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and Georgia Republican Austin Scott.

Of course Washington isn’t as vocal in its support of al-Nusra as it is in its enthusiasm for the “moderate” opposition group of choice, the Free Syrian Army. As we’ve documented extensively, the FSA has received anti-tank weapons from The Pentagon over the past two months so that they may counter the advance on Aleppo by Hezbollah and the IRGC. Given that the very same Iran-backed Shiite militias the FSA is fighting in Syria are also fighting ISIS in Iraq, the fact that the US is supplying the FSA with weapons to kill them is nothing short of ridiculous. Here’s how we described the situation last month:

The US is now supplying anti-tank weapons and other munitions to the rebels fighting in Aleppo and those weapons are being used to kill these very same Shiite militiamen who are driving US tanks, fighting alongside the Iraqi army, and indirectly receiving US assistance just across the border in Iraq.

So thanks to Washington's twisted foreign policy, they are friends on one side of the Syria-Iraq border and mortal enemies on the other.

Well now, in what can only be described as an embarrassment of truly epic proportions, al-Qaeda has released a video thanking the FSA for supplying al-Nusra with American-made TOWs. Here’s Sputnik

The Al-Nusra Front, Al-Qaeda's affiliate in Syria, has released a grateful video, where they openly thank the Free Syrian Army (FSA), which the US has touted as a “moderate opposition group”, for supplying them with US-made anti-tank TOW missiles (“Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided").

A recently released video shows an Al-Nusra Front field commander thanking the FSA commanders for giving his forces TOW missiles, according to a report released by the Iranian news agency FARS.

The agency reminds readers that the two groups, the Al-Nusra and the FSA, formed an alliance in March, the Army of Conquest, or Jaish al-Fatah in Arabic, to fight against the forces of President Assad.

Since then, they have fought together “at almost every single battle in Aleppo, Lattakia, Hama, and Idlib Governorates of Syria.”

Through this alliance several militant groups like the Al-Nusra Front and the Ahrar al-Sham movement have been given access to FSA's US-made heavy weaponry, which has been supplied to the militant group by the US, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

According to the agency’s estimates, Saudi Arabia sent 500 TOW missiles to Al-Nusra directly last month.

Obviously, this is the very definition of absurdity. It would be bad enough if the US were supplying TOWs to anyone in Syria. But this is Washington and Riyadh handing anti-tank missiles to forces that are firing them at the Iranians who are operating under cover of Russian airstrikes. Just to drive that home: the US is waging war against Iran and Russia with but one degree of separation.

That's the big picture.

But as mentioned above, this is also ridiculous because The Pentagon is killing the same people in Syria that the US-trained Iraqi army depends on to rout ISIS across the border in Iraq. And when we say "the same people", we mean the exact same Shiite militias. Every Iran-backed militiaman that's killed in Syria by a US-made weapon is one less militiaman that will return to Iraq to fight ISIS, which is of course fine with Saudi Arabia and Qatar because they're opposed to Iranian influence in Baghdad in the first place.

Finally, the idea that the US is fighting al-Nusra in Syria is not only untrue, it's actually the complete opposite of what's really going on on the ground.

Hopefully no one from al-Qaeda ends up firing a TOW at a Paris cafe.

Easy to fix:

.

"The Saudis and Qatar have backed al-Nusra virtually from the beginning, and the US is all for anything that destabilizes Assad, even if it means funneling guns and money to the very same group that flew passenger jets into skyscrapers on American soil."

->

If the dozens of false flags that have been perpetrated by the alphabet agencies of the US government (for which a mountain of evidence exists if one chooses to look for it) don't wake up the American sheeple, nothing will.  .Gov should feel confident that it can get away with anything now and stop pretending to care.  Nobody is paying attention anyway.

Actually a false flag double-win.  Learned-helplessness psyop victory occurs when the thinking demographic of the population knows that nothing within the system, as offered to them, can stop the brazen actions of openly bad agents and institutions.

Rather than an antiwar movement, we need an anti lying cheating stealing government movement. Their constant manipulations and corruption in the name of national security has created a theme for many that is primarily anti war, anti defense...primarily anti military. Their corrupt policies are doing to us internationally what they have also been doing nationally.....destabilizing to create violence as a cause to disarm us. Violence in America is not blamed upon the criminal perpetrating it, but on the guns the we personally own to defend ourselves from it. Guns, not criminals, are the cause of our problems. In this same way they are manipulating politics, using the military in a corrupt fashion to perpetrate evil and chaos around the world, and at the same time reducing our military size and capability in a time of unprecedented turbulence, as though it is the military's fault, and not the president, the state department and the myriad of apparatchiks facilitating this madness. The military doesn't kill people, their commander in chief kills people....the ultimate trigger man.

It's not really about who's getting killed with what weapons - it's all about the WEAPONS!  Watch those weapons get used up.  Watch weapons depots become empty.  Watch the pockets of the MIC douchebags get filled up via gubmint contracts to build MOAR weapons.

The extreme amount of ordinance used in the first gulf war wasn't about necessity, it was about depleting stockpiles - they were dropping bombs to get rid of them so they could buy moar newer bombs.  I can't imagine that the policy of "use it up to force them to order more" would have changed ... as it has been very effective ...

The boys I know in the MIC are all getting bonuses .... aren't you?

It's no more likely that a US-made TOW will be used on a "Paris cafe", than the US-supplied AR-15s were used in EU attacks.

They use US-made arms against Assad and Iraqi Shiia forces, and Russian arms when fighting abroad. It's a matter of optics, PR and subliminal messaging by the MIC and State Dept.

Application for terrorists to - be given by the US taxpayer - our very best advanced small and heavy weapons - APPROVED

Application for a responsible and esteemed US citizen to purchase a 10/22 squirrel rifle - with their own money - DENIED

This is the bizarro world that we find ourselves in now when the majority of politicians think like this. In their eyes it makes perfect sense to arm terrorists and then enact legislation to disarm the American people the minute they think they can get away with it! I keep shaking my head hoping these people and their line of thinking isn't real.

Actually, that may be EXACTLY what needs to happen...some "moderate" terrorist using USA weapons like a TOW to attempt a "terrorist" attack on France, Belgium, Germany, UK etc.

I'd pray they miss their intended innocent targets, but I supposse I would reconsider if they were attacking those contries' complicit governmet offiicals.

The point beign that the absurdity of what we are doing needs to be exposed through something the sleepwalking American people and MSM media might slightly consider untenable.

Appears radial Muslims killing innocent Muslims doesn't register.

Brookings Institute on Russia's strategy in Syria and on the cost of these TOW missiles;

"One key reason for the minimal territorial shifts so far is the use of American BGM-71 TOW anti-tank guided missiles by CIA-backed Free Syrian Army rebels. The missiles, which first appeared in rebel hands in April 2014, have been used far more (a nearly 850% rise) since the Russian intervention: there were 82 recorded uses from October 1 to 20, compared to only 13 in all of September. With each missile valued at least $50,000, that equates to over $4.1 million of expenditure in three weeks."

---

At current attrition rates the SAA has between 2-4 years worth of armored forces left and here's why.

As the most tank-heavy military in the Middle East, by a heavy percentage, the SAA entered the Syrian Civil War with a tremendous amount of armor.

In four years of war, most notably the last three, the number of main battle tanks has shrunk by nearly half with conflict blogger Oryx claiming that of 2,500 MBTs,roughly 1,500 remain as of November 2014 and of the estimated 1,000 BMP-1s in service, Oryx claims that 350 have been destroyed and approximately 175 captured by the opposition, as of January 2015. With over half of the BMP fleet, a mainstay of SAA battle doctrine, destroyed or captured, and approaching half of all MBTs destroyed or captured, how much longer can the SAA sustain these losses before the armored strength of the SAA is depleted and more tanks and armored vehicles exist in opposition hands than the government? My rough estimate: 2 years.

Incidentally there are six large landing craft (capacity 10 tanks or other stuff), other military cargo ships plus 8 civilian ships, including at least 1 large RO-RO ferry, that the Russians bought cheap over the past few months, now operating the sea link from Russia to Syria through the Bosporus. In addition to military supplies they also carry thousands of tons of grain and other food. This is wide band Russian support for Syria.

Disinformation: Former Spy Chief Reveals Secret Strategies for Undermining Freedom, Attacking Religion, and Promoting Terrorism

The highest-ranking Soviet bloc intelligence official ever to defect to the West, Lt. Gen. Ion Mihai Pacepa is at it again.

How the Soviet bloc planted 4,000 agents of influence in the Islamic world, armed with hundreds of thousands of copies of the most infamous anti-Semitic book in history, to fan the flames of ancient Arab resentments against the U.S. and Israel and sow the seeds of anti-Semitism that would later bloom in the form of violence and terror toward Jews and Christians.

Oleg Kalukin ex KGB/FSB General Officer. 32 years service.

Ex-KGB Agent Kalugin: Putin Was 'Only A Major'.

Vladimir Putin is merely posing as a lieutenant colonel.

These are some of the claims made by Oleg Kalugin, a former high-ranking KGB officer and fierce critic of Putin in an interview with RFE/RL.

According to Kalugin, Putin was "just a major" in the KGB, which he resigned from in 1991. "He could have become a lieutenant colonel a year later but he didn't,"

When willPutin and Iran take the battle to Riyadh

Iran’s elite Rev Guards units routed by ISIS in the Al Safira pre-battle for Aleppo

The battle for Al-Safira, 20 km. south of Aleppo - and the key to its capture - will go down in Iran’s Revolutionary history as the most humiliating defeat its elite forces have sustained in all its 36 years. This week, Iran sent into battle outside its borders 2,000 of its best-trained, loyal and well-equipped combat troops, detached from six elite Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) units. The battle at Al-Safira, fought with Russian air cover alongside Hizballah and Syrian army forces, was supposed to be the turning point in the Syrian civil war. Its objective was to break through Islamic State and Nusra Front defense lines around Al-Safira, and knock over the positions the Islamists had erected for blocking the roads from Aleppo and central Syria to Damascus, among them Route 5, the main highway. After that, they planned to advance on Aleppo.
Their offensive had the opposite result.

Fighters from ISIS and the Nusra Front stopped the Iranian and Syrian troops in their tracks and forced them to abandon the sections they held along the main transportation routes leading to Aleppo. So not only did the Iranian-led army fail to clear the way to this key city, but they were driven back by ISIS fighters, who took control of the 20-kilometer route from Al-Safira to Aleppo. The day ended with the jihadis in position to tighten the siege on both cities.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, ISIS followed up on its victory by seizing control of the eastern neighborhoods of Al-Safira and advancing towards the center of the city.

The losses sustained by the IRGC, which spearheaded the ground attack, were heavy, mostly in the fighting in the rural area south of Aleppo.

How could this happen to Tehran’s supposedly formidable forces?

Iran’s death toll in the battle for Aleppo may never be known, but the numbers of officers and enlisted men who died was so high and the shock effect so extreme that IRGC Deputy Commander, Gen. Hossein Salami had to call a live news conference on Iran’s state-run television Wednesday, Oct. 28, to explain why his country came to be involved in the Syrian war.
He depicted Syria as “the front line in the battle against Western forces, particularly the US… which is seeking to implement a destructive plan in the Arab world.” He then argued: “Had Iran not intervened, the chaos would have spread into Lebanon, Iraq and elsewhere.”

But DEBKAfile’s military sources point out that this explanation offered no answer to the main question troubling Iran’s leaders and the IRGC command: On what grounds can they continue to boast that Iran’s army is capable of destroying the US military within 10 days, and the IDF in one day, when Iran’s special forces, armored corps, urban warfare units and airborne brigades, backed by the Russian air force, not only failed to rout ISIS forces, but were humiliated into retreating from their strategic positions amid heavy losses?

We are all Stopfake I had a longer post planned for today, but today, and the night before, proved to be pretty hectic. How hectic? I got hit by a goddamned Porsche SUV less than a block from my home. Nothing serious, but I couldn’t help but notice how the driver sped away immediately after I was clear of her hood.

Fortune smiled upon me, however, when I ran across a hilariously bad viral Facebook meme:

https://nobsrussia.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/9gag.jpg?w=625

Like, Wow! Man! The government’s all like: “We’ve got to kill ISIS,” but like…actually, they’re like…selling them weapons so they can make like money, and get…uh…like…OIL! Yeah, like that Iraq War, when we used to fight the Soviets with Saddam but then like, we paid Bin Laden to be our enemy, and then he did 9/11! But like…I read this one web site that said Bush did 9/11 so, like….yeah.

Alright, seriously now. How idiotic is this picture? Well first off, of all the many photos of ISIS with US weapons they could have chosen, photos which show ISIS fighters posing with everything from M16A2 rifles to American-made humvees, they chose a photo of a possible ISIS fighter holding a Soviet-made AT-3 “Sagger” (Russian name: Malyutka) anti-tank missile, or one of its international variants. Yes, that’s how badly this person fucked it up.

And what about the US weapons in ISIS’ possession? I can’t speak as to whether the 75% figure is even remotely accurate, but in any case I know how they got them, and it wasn’t because the US sold arms to ISIS. If the dipshit who came up with this had a memory spanning more than two years, he would have recalled that ISIS kicked the crap out of the Iraqi army and captured vast quantities of vehicles and arms from them. This bounty included tons of American equipment that had been in Iraqi service.

Here’s an article from this year detailing the American booty ISIS got in Iraq. Oh what’s that? You don’t trust “the government? You “question more?” Fine. Here’s RT telling you the same thing so you can stop questioning. Case closed, indefatigable seekers of truth!

You know, long before Russian propaganda and viral memes we had the notorious chain emails. I used to hate these idiotic stories that are perpetually rehashed and forwarded by conservative aunts, uncles, and grandmothers all over the US. The chain email brought us things like Marine Todd, and the rough and tough female Marine who tells off a French soldierin a mysterious alternative universe where Camp Bondsteel is in Bosnia instead of Kosovo. In those days our “Stopfake” was Snopes.com.  It’s still a useful site today.

But nowadays, the stupid isn’t just lurking in your inbox. It’s all over your newsfeed. This is the double edged sword of the information age. We have more access to more information than ever before, but we also have just as much access to even more bullshit than before. Sites like Snopes and Stopfake.org can’t do the heavy lifting for us critical thinkers. The responsibility is on all of us to call out bullshit wherever we see it.

To arms!

UPDATE: Here’s a useful article for debunking some of the most popular ISIS bullshit.

UPDATE II: Here are a couple more links for debunking ISIS myths. LINK 1LINK 2.

But it gets better!

SYRIA BUYING OIL FROM ISIS. Now, whats so perverse about this is the fact that Syria has NO economy to buy anything -- much less oil. So who is paying for this oil purchased from ISIS?

Umm that would be Russia. Russia is propping up the Assad regime economically. This means Russian taxpayer money is flowing to Assad and then Assad uses it to buy oil from ISIS to keep the Assad war machine running.

BRILLIANT NO? The Russian people must be so pleased!

ISIS is selling oil to Syria, the very country the militant group is trying to take over.

The Syrian government, ruled by the brutal dictator Bashar al-Assad, is currently engaged in a civil war with various rebel groups, as well as a war against ISIS, which is trying to establish a caliphate in the region.

Syria needs oil to fight these wars, and since ISIS controls a significant amount of the oil production infrastructure in the country, they are forced to buy oil from ISIS.

In addition to selling to Syria, ISIS also sells oil to black market traders in the region, who sell the oil to rebel groups or people living in areas that ISIS controls.

I guess if you keep repeating the words "brutal dictator Bashar al-Assad" even you will start to believe your own lies! Either way, I'll sum you up with one word.... LIAR!

"However, despite the repeated claims by sectarian Islamists and their western backers, there is no convincing evidence that the Syrian Army has deliberately bombed and gassed civilians. Nor would there be a motive for it.  Nor does the behaviour of people on the streets support it. Most Syrians do not blame their army for the horrendous violence of this war, but rather the foreign backed terrorists.

These are the same terrorists backed by the governments of the USA, Britain and France, hiding behind the fig-leaf of the mythical ‘moderate rebel’ while reciting their catalogue of fabricated accusations.

The high participation rate (73%) in June’s presidential elections, despite the war, was at least as significant as the strong vote (88%) Bashar received. Even the BBC could not hide the large crowds that came out to vote, especially those that mobbed the Syrian Embassy in Beirut.

Participation rates are nowhere as near in the US; indeed no western leader can claim such a strong democratic mandate as this ‘dictator’. The size of Bashar’s win underlines a stark reality: there never was a popular uprising against this man; and his popularity has grown."

Yea but its only been "debunked" in Russia. In the rest of the entire world -- we know the truth.

The truth is Assad drops barrel bombs on unsuspecting civilians and creates mass cassualties.

So therefore, the title sticks.
