Syrian Rebels Destroy Russian Helicopter With US-Supplied Anti-Tank Missile

Tyler Durden's picture

Earlier today, just hours after Turkey shot down a Russian Su-24 warplane near the border with Syria, the FSA (more specifically Alwiya al-Ashar) released footage of fighters celebrating over the body of a dead Russian pilot.

The group would later claim to have executed both pilots after they ejected from the plane and attempted to parachute to safety.

In a second serious escalation, another FSA-aligned group claimed to have shot down a Russian search and rescue helicopter.

You can read our full coverage here, but just note that if the FSA's 1st Coastal Brigade did indeed use an American-made TOW to destroy a Russian aircraft, it confirms exactly what we said on Monday when we detailed the American, Turkish, and Saudi-sponsored program to supply anti-tank missiles to the Syrian opposition:

Obviously, this is the very definition of absurdity. It would be bad enough if the US were supplying TOWs to anyone in Syria. But this is Washington and Riyadh handing anti-tank missiles to forces that are firing them at the Iranians who are operating under cover of Russian airstrikes. Just to drive that home: the US is waging war against Iran and Russia with but one degree of separation.

Now, the FSA has released what it says is footage of the TOW attack:

Same script...just spout the rhetoric long enough until events like this occur and they have even another reason to "Hold Off" on rate increases..eventually the narrative will form itself...even if it means near global war...we cannot raise rates...and we all knew this years ago...and we all will be discussing (Hopefully) the same never coming rate increase...the tax payers money must be diluted until the bankers are made whole.

If WW3 starts soon then today's events will be what set it off, not the lame France stuff like that idiot Chuck Norris said. Who was going to be fighting in WW3 based on the Paris attacks? Everyone against the CIA controlled isis or everyone against the world's 1+ billion Muslims who most of them are innocent and don't do anything?

If the France events were going to start anything then it'd be the second holocaust since it is clear the world wants to eliminate the Muslim population.

Most times long term positive change takes short term pain -

You want an education so you can get a better job - you need to study and work at it.

You want to lose weight and get in physical shape - you need to eat healthy / and exercise.

You want to retire with enough assets to enjoy your retirement years - you need to spend less than you earn and save some money.

America has turned into a - I want my good easy life NOW and I don't want to have to do anything to earn it -

I AM ENTITLED TO IT BECAUSE I LIVE IN AMERICA!

So they vote to have government provide it.

The TOW (Made in USA) operator clearly has (CIA) training. Ok, so we have a hot and direct war now. No more War-by-Proxy.

On the Left we have USSA + NATO (Yes, Turkey is part of NATO (wtf?)) + Sunni Islamists (See: Gulf States)  VERSUS Russia + Shi'a (Iran + much of Eastern Iraq) Islamists + (possibly) China on the Right. Looks like World War III is getting started. There are many governments to blame, note I did not say "nations" or "people", and no other government deserves more blame for ALL of this than the United States government. The American people, the vast majority of them, through either their intentional ignorance or indifferent arrogance, have allowed this to happen without the slightest hinderance. The price of Liberty is Eternal Vigiliance and as a whole the American people have not been vigilant and certainly not for any appreciable length of time.

The future looks bleak. I can only trudge on, withdraw my consent to be governed by the criminals in D.C., and live my life as best I can.

How about putting the peices together. The decision to deploy the Clemenceau was made before the bombing. The decision to deploy F-15 C's was made for no obviously apparent reason. Things are coming together in a way that suggests that everything going on is a false flag, meant to pressure the Russians to withdraw. Paris bombing was meant to mobilize nationalism for a fight. The Russian Airliner bombing was meant to cause Russian public outcry for withdrawal. This incident is meant to pull NATO into action. Turkey is being belligerent, probably with American support. It wouldn't surprise me if Turkey was behind the Russian Airliner bombing. God help us all these buttheads are dragging us to war. Putin doesn't appear as the type prone to over reaction. Russia will react in due time and due course and not in a way that's expected. The only real question is how delusional is western leadership is and how far will they push this ?

I don't know, looks like some serious editing going on in this video.  The two helicopters in the opening shot could not have landed and spun down their rotors in the 1:20 it took for the explosion to appear in the video.  And, even if it did, where's the activity around the landing site?  No sign of the crew, which you would kinda expect in a rescue operation. Makes you wonder if they just found a helicopter laying around somewhere and blew it up.

"the use of American BGM-71 TOW anti-tank guided missiles by CIA-backed Free Syrian Army rebels. The missiles, which first appeared in rebel hands in April 2014, have been used far more (a nearly 850% rise) since the Russian intervention: there were 82 recorded uses from October 1 to 20, compared to only 13 in all of September. With each missile valued at least $50,000, that equates to over $4.1 million of expenditure in three weeks.

Having initially had an effective, but strategically subdued effect on the conflict, the CIA coordinated provision of TOW missiles has suddenly shown its true potential. Combatants on the ground -- including 13th Division leader Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Saoud and the leaders of three other CIA-backed FSA groups -- all told me that they have received more TOWs than normal recently and stressed how useful they have been. "TOWs will destroy the Russians and their objectives, and we've received many more recently," Saoud said."

TOWs are a controlled substance in the US Military. Even for 11B (infantry) TOWs are like a fucking unicorn because they are so 'precious' and expensive you only hear about them let alone get to fire one and the training is from an FM field book.

Fair enough, they're harder to get than AKs. I'm not refuting that they come from the US nor that it's lousy thinking on the part of the US govt (whatever branch/tendril is at fault this time) to give/sell them.

What I am saying is that every story on ZH on this topic appears to be written from the most inflammatory angle toward the US. Yesterday there were stories of US-provided missiles generating "thank yous" from al-Queda. Such reports had no links to original sources, just "reports" and words sourcing them to Iranian agencies. Pushing a story this way before being certain smells fishy.

Again, I make no claims about the rightness or sanity for US gov't actions. A little less hysteria is my desire, some sobriety.

I don't know why the hell Turkey would ever shoot at a Russian plane nor why anyone in the US gov't would back the action up. There is a lot of noise and misinformation floating around, hard to sift out the BS and get hold of something that holds up as consistent from any news-type sites.

false analogy

the AK47s were not supplied by the Russian government.

However, US weaponry is intentionally supplied to the ISIS/AlQaeda 'freedom fighters'

either directly (CIA,Pentagon) or through US allied/client regimes (Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel).

Read the comments again. Most ZH readers would like to avoid escalated conflict between the US and Russia, but are not optimistic about that avoidance happening.

There may be a different analogy.

The US and Saudi allies supported jihadist AlQaeda 'freedom fighters' to topple the Soviet-allied secular government in Afgahistan. Now the US and Saudis support ISIS/AlQaeda 'freedom fighters' to topple the Russian-allied mostly secular government in Syria.

As some have commented, Putin must be careful not to repeat the Afghan experience.

(Showing its flexibility, the US also backed nazi wannabees to overthrow the elected government in Ukraine when jihadists weren't available.)

You know that how? There were reports of other "actors" around the scene that were white, clean shaven and spoke some sort of "foreign" language. Could very well be FSB/Spetnaz orchestrating the false flag.

The tragic downing of the Russian jet in Egypt and guess what -- THE VERY NEXT DAY PUTINS RATINGS WENT TO THEIR HIGHEST RECORDED RATING EVER. The very next day. And furthermore, the Egyptians and the Russians would not let any foreign investigatory body (like the NTSB) or even the engineers from Airbus to see the wreckage. Wonder why that is? Hmm...

The team flew out on an Irish military aircraft on 2 November."

After all the official US accusations about MH17, the US witholding of information (satellite radar etc.),

and the half-baked MH17 "investigation",

Russia can hardly be faulted for declining un-needed US "assistance".

this will all pass over...a year from now erdogan will die from 'cancer' (i.e. polonium 210)

putin won't kick off direct military conflict IMO...yet, he is patient, calculated and ruthless when the time is right.

don't get me wrong, I'm not a 'fan', but in this instance some comeuppance will be had - question is...when?

There are better drugs that are easily available and I predice a rash of Lue Garick's desease outbreaks that will kill in as little as as a year.  Edgoran can watch his family die, rath in his children and children's children  and we all know where that type of attitide comes from.  Presently Turkey is just one big problem that is just begining to be solved.  The Saud empire is also over and crumbling, they just don't know it.  Quatar, well they are just about dead broke anyway and this type of childisn nonsense is something that the Hegemon would prevoke so that its 'rightful' investors can pick up the crumbs..  I don't tink Russia really cares as long as civilized rule prevails, but that is not what is happening now.

The Magic Negro and his magic sandnigger terrorists

their actions might result in serious unintended consequences for their allies.

Qatar, israel, KSA, Turkey should all suffer for their support of stateless terrorists and mercenaries.

I expect the Russian response to be deadly and for no one else to see it coming.

Good.

I am positive the radar monitors at the British bases on Cyprus knows exactly where the Russian airplane was and where it was traveling.  The Russians know because we saw what looked like the S300/400 radar unit at their main Syrian airbase.  The US probably has equivalent radars at Incirlik where 6 US F16s are based.  Let's put all 3 tracks together to see who is right. Real close to the border doesn't count because they executed 2 pilots.

Payback is a bitch.  Next year's tourist season in Turkey will have great deals with no Russians and a bunch of ISIS and Kurdish extremists blowing everything up and cutting a few throats.

Criminal putin regime told officialy that FSA is not a terrorist group and so criminal putin regime is not bombing FSA.

Russia says U.S.-backed Free Syrian Army not a terrorist group

But FSA, NATO, Turkey, etc. kept reporting that criminal putin regime is bombing them - so it means putin regime lied... again.

Syrian rebels to Russia: Stop bombing us

So putin continued to lie and play a fool in world stage ... until when again criminal putin regime went on mission to bomb FSA on border with Turkey - where ISIS is not located - they again violated Turkey/NATO airspace, got warning from them - but ignored it. Thought he is a tough guy - but Turkey fast pointed out where is putin place in world and bitch slapped him by downing ou mighty russian Su-24 war plane. So if criminal putin regime where on mission on bombing ISIS - this would not happen. But Criminal putin regime was in mission to bomb FSA and to show of against NATO by violating it's airspace - in result - putin got kicked in nutts. He deserved that for supporting ISIS.  Yes - putin is supporting ISIS because FSA is fighting against ISIS but criminal putin regime is fighting and bombing FSA. So this means - putin supports ISIS. Because ISIS and criminal putin regime and Assad attacks FSA.

Few hours later - FSA bitch slaps  putin again and downs it's helicopter using TOW. In one day criminal putin regime mirage about ou mighty macho and military force - was destroyed in ashes.

That is reality - now putin trolls can only scream with anger and downvote any who has put his and putins face in mud.

Hope to see Turkey blocking Turkish straits for russkies ship. Bend over putin... bend over :D

ha ha ha :D Great day!

this should make it easier for Putin.

he will kill isis then let u.s., Israel, turkey, s.a., Qatar, nato, and others claim they were their hired people, doing Allah's work.

it's about time Egypt is waking up, the wrong team of "obamas arab-spring agenda" is in charge, we all know that means big-big trouble for Egypt.

there was far-far more time, weaponry, secrecy, and monetary assets, by the same people, devoted to obamas arab-spring, that was put into D-day in ww11.

today though you couldn't get a couple million devoted troops to fight a banker war again.

it's easy though to pit different factions of muslims against each other, pick your faction, arm, finance, train, then sit back and let the msm lead them to your intended target.

Russia is making a BIG mistake by not attacking the American created, western backed, so called 'Moderate Rebels, FSA, Al Nusra etc'.

It high time these bastards be given justice , use night vision , use infrared imaging from satellites & planes & give them the kayamat , send them to the asura world.
