US Backed "Rebels" Execute Russian Pilots While Parachuting, Caught On Tape

Tyler Durden's picture

If Putin was angry when Turkey shot down a Russian plane, which may or may not have crossed Turkish territory - reports on both sides are conflicting - he will be absolutely livid to learn that, according to Turkey's Dogan News, the Russian pilots who had parachuted in an attempt to save their lives after the plane was shot down, had been executed while parachuting down by local rebels, which considering the video released earlier belonged to the Free Syrian Army, are same "rebels" who are funded directly by the CIA.

And this:

As Telegraph points out, the above tweet is from CNN Turk's Foreign Editor who tweeted that the Turkmen rebels DHA spoke to said: "We hit at the two pilots after they parachuted."

This, as many have already pointed out, is a war crime.

The only question is whether this, together with the provocative action by Turkey which many can see being an act of war, will be deemed as such by Putin.

The parachuters can be seen in the second half of the clip below:

For those who missed it, here is the video uploaded by the Free Syrian Army of at least one dead parachuter.

And here is the video of rebels opening fire on Russian pilots:

As one commentator notes, in the video one person shouts over the gun fire, "don't fire. Let's take them prisoners. Don't fire. Prisoners" but it was not meant to be.

Reuters confirms the pilots' death: Turkmen forces in Syria shot dead the two pilots of a Russian jet downed by Turkish warplanes near the border with Turkey on Tuesday as they descended with parachutes, a deputy commander of a Turkmen brigade told reporters.

"Both of the pilots were retrieved dead. Our comrades opened fire into the air and they died in the air," Alpaslan Celik, a deputy commander in a Syrian Turkmen brigade said near the Syrian village of Yamadi as he held what he said was a piece of a pilot's parachute.

"Our units, who received the information that the two pilots were alive, are working to get them from opposition rebels safely," the official said.

The Russian General Staff said that, according to preliminary data, one of the Su-24 pilots has died after being fired at from the ground.

* * *

According to the Geneva Convention attacks on persons parachuting from an aircraft in distress are stricly banned: if the person in distress is not acting in a hostile manner, he is to be given the chance to surrender after reaching the ground.

What will be interesting to find out is whether or not the SU-24 was shot down by the F-16's or by a ground missile. No doubt the US will be singing the F-16 song for propaganda purposes.

The SU 24 is an attack bomber,,, not a fighter. Without overhead fighter support it would be hard pressed to defend itself against a fighter, much less 2 fighters. I imagine the Russians will now correct that mistake and fly overhead fighter cover for their bombers now the the Turks have officially sided with ISIS/ISIL.

ya know what's happening right now is the beginning of a 'world wide stock market crash'!

this isn't a kneejerk incident regarding geopolitics.

ussa must support turkey's territorial landscape and sovereignity. yet, the ussa and turkey want to slice-off syria's northern border as a no-fly-zone.

wtf!

so turkey's airspace is violated and yet the ussa invites itself inside syrian airspace without permission and conducts open airwar. the last i checked-- a country violating a countries sovereignity via military incursions was an 'act-of-war'.

assad never invited the ussa into syria...

who the fuck do we think we are?!?

the ussa sanctioned this act via its proxy fight with putin's russia,... as just an extension of nuland/kagan ukraine fomenting civil war over crimea

???  (!!! passenger jet sabotaged?)

why!

Important: Erdogan was given the green-light by Obama and as far as the French-- stay the fuck out of Syria and clean up your own cess poll!

Major oil and natural gas pipelines from the Caspian fields through Georgia, Armenia and Turkey and into Europe, the second largest production/reserve area in the world. It's where Hitler tried to get to in WWII but was stopped short. For years now, starting right out of the blue, I've just had this voice in my head, Baku, Baku. So I started doing a lot of research on the area and the players in the ME including Turkey. There is a land access corridor from Souther Russia through the Caucuses next to the Caspian Sea and the Iranians also have access through their northwest border area. The Russians protect both the Armenians (Christians) and the Azeris (the only other major Shia country in the ME) from Turkish aggression, and of course their own oil interest, although as recently as the late 1990's BP and other Western oil interests were there trying to get a piece of the action. They failed and left.

I think it will become the nexus in the current conflagration, but I hope I'm wrong.

I am sure the pipeline you refer to does not cross Armenia but goes around it through Georgia.

The Western interests behind the pipeline do not want any Russian interests involved with it and Armenia is allied to Russia.

After the collapse of the USSR the Azeris almost went into the pocket of Western interests but after several attempts by the West to subvert the government the Azeris have come to their senses and made their peace with Russia.

There is a possibility that the West may restart the war between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan to light up another hot spot for Russia.

You may not be too far off with your premonition. I hope you are wrong but there is nothing too low or craven for the West to attempt. Note the fuse that was just lit by the West in shooting down a Russian jet in northern Syria.

I wish you wouldn't use the term "West" for some of these references. There is definitely nothing western about Turkey. It's a nation difficult to trust in any regard.

The vast majority of "westerners" also have better ideas than their pathetic elected leaders do about how to solve some of these global issues.

Can we use the term "banker" or "financier" instead?

Russia has many more 'interests' in the are than the US does. They have the south stream gas pipeline and hundreds of billions invested in the Caspian fields. They also have to protect Syria, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran from Saudi/US/Israeli aggression. The Russians have a perfect right to be there, but the Turks don't have a perfect right to commit war crimes while hiding behind NATO.

In decades past I would have been severely ostracized if I made a comment favourable toward an "enemy".  First of all, I no longer give a fuck what people think of my opinions because they are reasonably well thought out.  On second thought, I never have been afraid to speak a truth even though it might be unpopular.

Secondly, Putin is no enemy.  He certainly is not the enemy of anyone in any 'free' world and he is absolutely not the enemy of the American, Canadian, British, French, or any other PEOPLE.  He is currently the enemy of ISIS, and by now we all know who ISIS really is and who funds them, arms them, and set them loose on the world.  Straight up... Putin is the greatest true "leader of his people" on the face of this planet.  And by proxy, he is the leader of all on this planet who value peace, and freedom from eternal enslavement to the mofos who constantly start wars, the Rotschild banking mafia.  That's who needs to be dealt with.

Pansy?  I was in from 1967 to 1969 and came home after getting hit the second time.  We saw shit done to Americans that was beyond horrific.  American ground troops have a lot of respect for pilots because they save lives when the going gets tough.  If you can't understand that regular military members of different countries respect each other then you're the one who obviously never spent any time in uniform.  Americans are not "exceptional" when it would come to stopping the murder of parachuters.  Russians, Germans, Brits, French, Chinese, etc. would all stop it.  Everyone hates war crimes.

Honestly, Max, I could write a book but thinking about it brings the bad dreams back.  It was really bad for awhile about ten years ago when I would wake up every morning exhausted from the dreams.  Then it finally got better again and now I'm doing pretty good.  Finding guys chopped up after you had heard them screaming in the night was the worst.  I'm sorry but I still hate North Vietnamese.  There are time when I'd gladly push a button and kill all of them if I could.  But I know that's wrong so I have to tell myself to just try to stop being bitter.  But it's hard sometimes.  My Dad felt the same way toward the Japanese until he died at the age of 84.  My uncle feels the same way to this day toward the North Koreans.  War is bad.  Real bad.  And there are probably people on the other side who feel the same way toward us.

Richsob - I appreciate your sentiment. A lot.of ZH readers firmly know their leadership can drag there citizens imto war no matter what country.

This incident reminds that this is hot, real war in the ME. Amrrican media has portrayed it as some skirmish. I wasnt in any wars or military. But I do distinctly remember footage of WW2 and combatants shooting down paratroopers and ejected pilots.

We had some great cooperation with the Russians and the space program. What I believe the US lost was a very large opportunity intellectually with the Russians and while competition for natural resources is very real, I do wish the best for the Russian people.

Despite what may or likely happen many of us Americans spoke out and took risks, that includes some top guys in intelligence against this strategy.

In any event, while it can be said freely to one another, prayers for these airmen. After this cycle of nasty behavior we are going to have a lot to forgive. Your post Richsob and your nightmares tells me this isnt going to be easy.

I have said this more than once. Putin is Geronimo with the bomb. It isnt an insult but a hopeful warning to our leadership we need to have a period of detente. Sadly, I am not seeing that happen and besides speaking out am in reality, powerless to stop it. Our leadership stopped listenting to the people a long time ago. Yes, they finished selling out to the bankers which yes, the owners of the CB franchise are Jews. Perhaps it would be better to focus on Basel than millions of.one another but hey, I know the reality I just sit in the bus and have no real power.

So if some "terrorists" interupted the gas supply to Turkey and it couldn't be brought back online for a few weeks because of "bombs and booby traps" how would that sit with Turkey? Of course there would be no real damage or terror attack.

Can't prove it wasn't terror in Russia that interupted your gas supply can you? How will the population in Turkey respond to being cold in winter with factories shut down for extended periods of time?

Just one of many options the Russians have. The obvious other one is to give the Kurds a bunch of weapons to see how Turkey likes to deal with their country being attacked by "terrorists" supported by foreign countries.

How the next war will unfold:

After this incident, Russia starts bombing Turkish SAM sites, Turkey invokes Article 5 of the NATO charter, an emergency NATO meeting and an emergency UNSC meeting are called. The former produces a resolution that angers the Russians more, the latter is a stalemate, Russia moves its Black Sea forces to the Dardanelles and masses troops for an overland thrust through Georgia. NATO puts the Balkan forces on alert. Russia attacks Turkey in a blitz. NATO retaliates against the Black Sea fleet, Russia launches air strikes against NATO naval forces in the Eastern Med, WWIII goes full on without a nuclear exchange for years before an armistice.

I agree with you . The Turkey part of this can be handled with diplomatic bullshit. The rebels shooting the pilots as they parachute and shooting down a rescue chopper gives Putin cover and a green light to mount a massive ground operation in the area. The rebels will be forced to flee over into Turkey and any dream of a "Free Syria" will be squashed. Kerry and McCain won't be able to save the "moderates" without direct US involvement and they won't do that. Most Americans don't give two shits who runs Syria but they do want ISIS gone. After Russia destroys the Free Syria Army the West will be forced to accept Assad staying and co-operate with Putin in fighting ISIS

I live near a Swedish air force base where they fly the JAS 39 (a Swedish aircraft with similar performance/capacity as the F-16). Today, I heard a conversation between one of the pilots and his buddy concerning the downed Su-24.

He was now considering to leave the air force since he thought that it would be more likely that the same thing would happen to him if Sweden joins NATO, which seems rather likely.

He thought that the Russian pilots should ask for extra pay for every combat mission the fly outside Russia. He also thought that the Russian air force should provide very generous life insurance policies for the pilots, especially those who fly Su-24 or choppers. He suggested an amount of money exceeding $1 million (SEK 10 million). He was surprised that the Russians so far had not lost more Su-24:s considering the high loss rate for the F-105 in the Vietnam war. He thought that the Russians should use high altitude carpet bombing or something similar to the “Daisy Cutter” (seems to be replaced by the more powerful MOAB now).

He also thought that the pilots should be offered suicide pills so that they wouldn´t have to shoot themselves in the head in case they got caught. (I guess he was referring to cyanide pills. But as far as I understand cyanide doesn´t make people unconscious immediately, it just suffocates people to death. A syringe containing Thiopental would probably be less gruesome.

Honestly, I have been busy, and out of touch. I just picked up this sotry an hour ago. I know the trolls will hate to hear this, but before I post comments, I research what I can really find out, then make up my mind what I think, then post.

Right now this sounds like what it is. Turkey has acted it claims in slef defense of it's air space. If they can prove that, then it is legal act. If not, Russia had better respond, or else it's position will fast fall apart.

This may be a NATO test. Kill one plane, then sit back and see how Russia reacts. Remember, the US Defense Secretary promised casualties for Russian forces, and soon. Now we have the SU-25 and a Helicopter going down to American made weapons. This is probably a "Shit Test", I shit on you, and then see if you man up or fade away.

Stay tuned, this murder of Russian pilots will get a reaction. The terror grouping that killed them, they will soon be hunted from ground and air. And Russia now has every right to bring in the big guns. Mobile AA systems. TOR M2U and S-400, these can provide full ari protection for Russian planes. We don't know if they have been put in Syria yet. My Russian sources say NO, NOT YET. Maybe soon then.

Russia should really have been more prudent and not put there assets in harms way (1km) inside the Syrian border - c'mon maaaan!) as they must have known this type of event would be the outcome.

USA why were we not bombing oil assets/trucks and convoys of ISIS prior to Russia doing it? hmmmmmmm   (operationally we don't want to kill civilians...well HELLO civilian today driving truck for isis tomrw makes you ISIS, so blow all their Petro assets up, abnd keep dropping those leaflets to warn civilians to stay away, cough)

CIA  should give free syrian army more ammo and assets ----- yup, so they can monetize it by selling it all to ISIS - like they have been! idiots

...and Turkey is no NATO good guy rather an opportunistic parasite - they only let us use their air bases when there is something in it for them. WAH!  The ISIS oil convoys were driving INTO TURKEY WITH THE OIL!

...and to all the Gulf monarchies - USA - WAKE up and tell them to knock it off - they are subsidizing ISIS vs the world and we are doing the bidding for the house of SAUD, the kuwaitis, Qatarians etc etc,  that sheet has to stop , freeze bank assets OBAMA  for gosh sake  nand quit playing stupid stand up and take the lead - PUTIN DID,

I agree with you about Turkey's right of defense.

But now Russia has the Right of Retaliation. against those they perceive are responsible for the murder of the two jet pilots and the helicopter pilot.

I suppose what I'm am saying is what with Lavrov's visit to Ankara cancelled and Ankara's expression of belief that the two pilots may still be alive and the immediate release of the gloating videos by the FSA/moderates, tomorrow,

what with the delay between the action and when we are informed of it,  I will be very surprised to learn that Putin did not use those events in Turkey on Tuesday to bomb as much of the FSA and moderate installations as possible.

And maybe now is still bombing them.

Turkey threatened Putin with serious consequences if Russia doesn’t stop bombing ISIS days before shutting down the Russian stealth fighter.

Turkey has run air campaigns in northern Iraq bombing the Kurds militants who were fighting against ISIS.

Turkey is facilitating selling ISIS stolen oil from Iraq and Syria oilfields to G20 membership countries on the black market at a dumping price. Has been estimated that as much as $800mil of oil has been sold in Turkey by ISIS using Turkey / Syrian border in direct dealings between Turkish officials and ISIS members under the blind eye of UK and USA.

Turkey is a corrupt, jihadist sh*t hole that hosts, protects, finances and offer intelligence and logistics to ISIS under cover of NATO membership and alliance with USA.

Turkey is considered a USA ally. ISIS is considered a terrorist faction in war with America.

Turkey is s state sponsor of ISIS with a NATO membership. NATO is harboring a state sponsor of ISIS. That makes NATO and all nations within NATO membership accomplices of sponsoring terrorism.

Shooting down the Russian jet - coming back to base after a combat mission against ISIS - under the pretext of airspace violation it’s a direct provocation of war against Russia. US sponsored, trained and equipped so called “moderate rebels” were seen shooting on the Russians jet pilots as they descended on the ground while chanting Alahu akbar.

As long as NATO and its allies are offering support to ISIS, this terrorist faction will continue to recover.

Who is fighting against who is Syria?

"shutting down the Russian stealth fighter."

1. Not a stealth aircraft

2. Not a fighter Aircraft

3. a relatively old ground support bomber aircraft

4. SU-25 does not carry air to air missiles or air combat radars. So can not really dogfight in defense.

5. Any fighter with modern air to air missiles and combat radars can shoot down a ground support aircraft. That is why they are deployed only when no enemy fighters are in the area.

The Turks should take a page from the Russian playbook after pro-Russian forces shot down that Malaysian passenger jet over the Ukraine and claim that they had nothing to do with it the downing and that it was actually Assad's forces that did the shooting. Or maybe claim that this is a Russian false flag.

Seriously, if you repeatedly violate a country's airspace, what do you expect? What did the Russians do to Francis Power's U2?

Also, it is entirely possible that some Turkish generals and pols were making big money by laundering oil from ISIS and were not happy about the Russians attacks on the oil trucks.

Turkey really has shot itself in the foot for short term advantage.

There was a 90 km gap between Kurd zones on the west of the Syrian-Turkey border and a larger block on the east. They were hoping to move troops into this gap to ensure free flow of arms to ISIS and to prevent the connection of the two Kurdish groups.

Now Russia/Syria has carte blanche to destroy any and all Turkish troops and weaponry that cross the border to seal this gap.

Also Russia could now extend the self-defense doctrine to any aircraft approaching Syrian territory that is no there with official Syrian government permission or by UN resolution.

Criminal putin regime told officialy that FSA is not a terrorist group and so criminal putin regime is not bombing FSA.

Russia says U.S.-backed Free Syrian Army not a terrorist group

But FSA, NATO, Turkey, etc. kept reporting that criminal putin regime is bombing them - so it means putin regime lied... again.

Syrian rebels to Russia: Stop bombing us

So putin continued to lie and play a fool in world stage ... until when again criminal putin regime went on mission to bomb FSA on border with Turkey - where ISIS is not located - they again violated Turkey/NATO airspace, got warning from them - but ignored it. Thought he is a tough guy - but Turkey fast pointed out where is putin place in world and bitch slapped him by downing ou mighty russian Su-24 war plane. So if criminal putin regime where on mission on bombing ISIS - this would not happen. But Criminal putin regime was in mission to bomb FSA and to show of against NATO by violating it's airspace - in result - putin got kicked in nutts. He deserved that for supporting ISIS.  Yes - putin is supporting ISIS because FSA is fighting against ISIS but criminal putin regime is fighting and bombing FSA. So this means - putin supports ISIS. Because ISIS and criminal putin regime and Assad attacks FSA.

Few hours later - FSA bitch slaps  putin again and downs it's helicopter using TOW. In one day criminal putin regime mirage about ou mighty macho and military force - was destroyed in ashes.

That is reality - now putin trolls can only scream with anger and downvote any who has put his and putins face in mud.

Hope to see Turkey blocking Turkish straits for russkies ship. Bend over putin... bend over :D

7th grade teacher in 1967 on first day of geography class was looking at the map of Europe. He wryly said you take a Turkey , dip it in Greece and you won't be Hungary anymore. The man may have been a prophet. By the way that is the only thing I remember from all of seventh grade. We live in interesting times.

Or, you take a Turkey, shoot down a Russian war plane and you won't be Turkey anymore.

"Get your affairs in order.  Putin will respond.  To think otherwise is foolish.  We have been living in la la land.  The Russians couldn't give a shit less about being politically correct.  They still function on facts.  Who put the Turks up to this?  Grave mistake"

My thoughts also.  How did the Turks get a sophisticated missile that can down a Russian jet?  This wasn't a random action by them.  Somebody decided.  And who exactly were the "Free Syrian Army" who executed the Russian pilots? Because we were told 4 weeks ago that the Free Syrian Army has disbanded.  Its own commander said that he quit the job.

The Russian intel forces and the Spetznaz are gonna' come back strong after this incident.  And I doubt that they only want to put Syrian heads on a pole.  I think they will be looking for Western advisors as well, and Turks.

The Kurds can find all the Turks they need to.  They just need to be properly equipped and their Freedom Fighters will do the rest.
