A new study by Pew Research shows that American Millennials are far more likely to support the government banning offensive speech about minority groups than other generations.
Of those aged 18-34, 40 percent support censoring offensive speech.
"We asked whether people believe that citizens should be able to make public statements that are offensive to minority groups, or whether the government should be able to prevent people from saying these things. Four-in-ten Millennials say the government should be able to prevent people publicly making statements that are offensive to minority groups."
There's also a difference in education levels and support for limiting speech.
Those with a high school degree or less are 9-percentage-points more likely to support censorship.
You can draw your own conclusions with that last statistic.

As a Gen Xer I'm digging that.
Gen X,,, the first batch of whiners expecting something for nothing. Every time they cried the boomers bought whatever it was they wanted. Then of course when they grew up there was no one to buy them what they wanted so many joined the greatest mafia of all, the government. Smarter than the boomers, they raised their children (millennials) on someone else's dime, giving them everything they wanted via the myriad of government programs. Yes, they had to pay a little but so did everyone else.
Today, millennials still expect everything from mama government but want to shut up those that are paying for it and embarrassing them. Voila! Anything said about minorities, feminists, homosexuals which are the majority of these lazy butts will be taboo and will allow them to rob others with impunity.
Millennial message to everyone: Shut up and give me something.
According to Saeculum Research, Gen X were overwhelming chosen by ALL age cohorts as the best to lead/manage in their respective work environments.
It won't surprise many to find that Millenials believe by a margin of 44% they were the best equiped to run the show. Total of all ages who agreed: 14%
Millenials are a polarized age cohort. I've worked with some twenty-somethings that were every bit as mature and competant as the 50 year old pros. Intelligent, industrious and very, very good at what they do. Unfortunately, there is an even larger segment of the same age group who are totally self-absored assholes.
Don't mistake one group for the other. The first is our natural ally. The second is our mutual enemy.

There have always been limits to 'free speech': fighting words, incitement, and slander spring to mind. The first amendment only protects private, consensual parties engaged in speech from abridgement thereof by public officials.

The reason why 40% of millenials are in favor of censoring offensive speech against so called "minorities" is that at least 40% of millenials ARE the so called "minorities", eg gay, lesbian, drug addicts, illegals or their derivatives, socialist collectivist parasites, entitlement feeders, ghetto breeding crop, etc.

Pew is asking the wrong question. They should inquire what each generation thinks of "government speech". Specifically, government speech in public schools. Personally, I'd like to see it curtailed altogether, I've found quite a bit of government speech to be offensive, if not outright lies. They told me that condoms would eliminate AIDs, my brain on drugs would look like scrambled eggs, that a space shuttle ride was a great holiday for a teacher (then made me watch it blow up, live), that police protect people, that we have no taxation without representation, that we should hide under our desks or in the hall if the nearby silos were nuked. Fuck government speech.
Watch the views of the non-whites change once they are no longer the minority!
